I don't know who you talked to, but some of the support techs tend to look at CS5 as "no longer sold or supported" and usually don't want to mess with it.
We are mostly user-volunteers and have time to help you out. Some of us get perks from Adobe, but we are not employees.
I actually gave you the links to the two very important CS5 updates, but you want to peruse this general list Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows
and get the Bridge CS5 updates as well. Adobe - Bridge : For Windows

If you did not get an OS X install-restore DVD with the computer you may need
to buy one from somewhere, and you may be lucky to get a retail OS X 10.5.x
version. The original grey-label install set of software and OS X it shipped with
likely would be an older system than Leopard 10.5. Last versions of G4 Mac, &
G5, shipped with a Tiger 10.4 system; so did early Intel-based Mac. Grey discs
which accompanied other computer build models generally do not interchange.
The last OS X version a PowerPC architecture can use, if supported, is 10.5.8.
A PPC processor at 867MHz & faster should be able to run OS X 10.5 Leopard.
{With the correct disc installer, you can use it to change a password and other
    things including re-install, and perform disk utility functions, etc.}
There is a chance you may be able to get a white-label Replacement 10.4 DVD
or Replacement 10.5 DVD from AppleCare or the online Apple Store (800myapple)
from a Mac OS X system specialist; these have been available yet hard to get
as not all persons involved with them seem to know if they still exist until someone
is asking. These aren't retail stock, are special discs for computers who could use
a system later than original old discs; these are complete install discs not for one
specific series of Mac. Generally they'd work in supported PowerPC G4/G5; but
do not replace specialized original install DVD, such as an early Intel mac requires.
You'd need to have a serial number of the computer, and a method of payment
when seeking some replacement system media from Applecare or Apple sales
and these discs are not available in a retail store. The original Retail discs are
labeled differently and shipped in a retail box with a big X on the front. Other
sources for retail 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard may be online via amazon sellers
or computer resellers who handle repaired Macs. Avoid mystery grey label ones
that were intended to be sold and kept with their original computer kits.
    Good luck!

  • Important!! Improve the life and performance of the battery.

Reduce the operating temperature and increase battery life
The battery in your notebook PC is designed to provide the necessary amount of energy for the processor while maintaining HP high safety standards. As a result, the battery may not charge or may stop providing power to the notebook when the battery temperature exceeds the specified, design safety level.
If the battery life appears shorter than normal, the battery stops charging before it is 99%-100% full and the battery appears warmer than usual, the battery has most likely reached its designed "no charge" safety state. The battery will no longer charge until the temperature condition is corrected.
Try one of the following methods to correct the battery temperature:
When charging the battery, do not use applications that require large amounts of system resources such as graphic or memory intensive applications, heavy and extended hard drive usage.
Turn off your notebook and remove the battery to allow it to return to a safe operating temperature.
Make sure the notebook PC is operating on a hard surface. Using the Notebook PC on a bed or sofa may block the vents causing the notebook PC to heat up and shut down.
By taking these steps, the battery will return to its normal operating temperature range and continue to charge and discharge as designed.
Calibrating the battery while PC not in use
Recalibrating the battery requires a cycle of a complete charge and a complete discharge. To recalibrate the battery while using the PC is not is use complete the following steps.
The recalibration may take 1-5 hours depending on the age of the battery and the configuration of the notebook PC you own. The PC should not be used while you perform the following steps. Completing all the following steps will also calibrate the battery so that the power meter readings are accurate.
    Shut down the notebook PC
Connect the AC Adapter to the notebook PC and to an electrical socket.
Charge the Notebook PC until the Battery Charge light is Green. This indicates the battery is completely charged.
Press and release the Power Button to start the computer.
Press the F8 key several times when the HP Logo displays.
When the Windows Advanced Startup Menu displays, select the Startup in Safe Mode option.
Remove the AC power adapter from the notebook PC.
Allow the battery to discharge completely until the notebook PC turns off.
The battery is now calibrated and the battery level reading on the power meter is now accurate.
If you are not using the notebook regularly then please unplug the AC adapter and shut down the notebook. By following these practices will improve the life and performance of the battery. Here is a quick list of Do's and Don'ts for the care of your Li-On batteries:
    Do's
When you receive a new Notebook or Tablet PC, leave the battery to fully charge overnight.
Condition a new battery by using it until it is fully discharged, and then re-charge it fully. Doing this once a month will help to accurately calibrate your battery.
Always ensure the battery is recharged as soon as possible after it becomes fully discharged. A battery will be permanently damaged if left for an extended length of time in a fully discharged state.
Remember that a Lithium-Ion battery will slowly deteriorate; a new battery will always perform better than one that is 6-months old.
Remember that the battery half-life is rated for a certain total number of charge/discharge cycles (see your User Manual or Quick Start Guide for the rating). For example, a battery that is rated for 3 hours and 500 charge/discharge cycles, will still be considered as within specification, even if it only lasts for 1 hour 45 minutes after 500 charge/discharge cycles.
Heat is the worst enemy of a battery. Allow plenty of air to circulate around the Notebook/Tablet PC, so that the battery is kept as cool as possible when charging and also when in use. If provided, use the integrated 'legs' under the Notebook to raise the notebook and improve air circulation.
Remove the battery if storing for several months (the battery should be at approximately 50% charge or higher).
If you use a NoteBus or if charging your Notebooks or Tablet PCs in a confined space, allow for adequate ventilation in order to keep the batteries as cool as possible.
    Don'ts
Do Not - Expose the battery to excessive heat or cold (i.e. outside the range of 10-35 degrees Centigrade ambient).
Do Not - Store the battery in a fully charged state (store batteries with about 50% charge).
Do Not - Allow a nearly flat battery to be unused for more than a month or so. The battery will slowly discharge until it becomes fully discharged and this will permanently damage the battery cells.
Do Not - Charge your Notebook/Tablet PC inside a carry case - the battery may overheat.
Do Not - Charge your Notebook/Tablet PC when stacked on top of each other - the battery may overheat.
Remember: Your battery is slowly degrading all the time, even if it is not used. Keeping your battery as cool as possible will slow down this degradation considerably.

  • When importing images into LR5 on my laptop, the photos all have a wide yellow streak through them. This only happens on the laptop; I can import the images onto my desktop LR and there isn't the streak of colour.   Can someone help?

When importing images into LR5 on my laptop, the photos all have a wide yellow streak through them. This only happens on the laptop; I can import the images onto my desktop LR and there isn't the streak of colour.   Can someone help?
This is happening even with photos that were taken on another camera, not just mine.  My daughter told me that the laptop recently fell.  The yellow streak is not anywhere else on the laptop, just on the photos in LR.

I have had this problem on my desktop.  I have been attempting to reproduce it where it can be debugged. Here are some observations/facts in my environment--no conclusions:
    1. I do not import from camera or memory stick directly into LR.  I copy all images (using Explorer) from camera to two different locations (backup location first); and then my working area. In both cases, after files are copied I mark them Read-only.
    2. Poor observation, but in any event: the issue has only occurred when I do a large number of images. Its a poor observation as I have no exact number.  I suspect when I do less than 50 always works well every time.  However, I have also done some very large imports without issue.
    3. Error only occurs with my RAW images--for me that's NEF.  I have multiple cameras--those that only capture jpg images have never had an issue in LR.
    4. Even if the file is marked Read Only issues can still occur.  I then remove the image from the disk using LR -- and then manually (Explorer) copy in my backup image -- re import again and all is well.  I think one time I exited LR and replaced the bad file with a backup and restarted LR and all was well again.
    5. When it occurs I have performed a HASH value on the broken file and on the backed up file to determine if the file contents has changed--and each time the file contents has changed.
    6. I have had this occur immediately after import, but most often it occurs like this... import large number of images; Make changes in Development Module on random image, export jpg of changes--exit LR. Open up LR and file is corrupted.
    7. I have had this issue on multiple USB drives ( okay just 2 different drives have been tested ).
What next--fire up Process Monitor and monitor the system (specifically LR) to see if it reports any file open for write access when this occurs.  So, far I have not had process monitor actually running when it occurs--one of these days.

  • Adobe's take on CS6 performance on the next gen MBP

Forgive me if I missed this, but being gutted they still haven't released a new Mac Pro (spec bumps released today don't count), I'm thinking of just getting a Next Gen MBP and work from there.  Does Adobe have an opinion on how it performs with CS6 particulaly related to Cuda acceleration and the Mercury Playback engine?  Will it do well with only 16GB of RAM and the internal 650M card?

I'm not Adobe and don't speak for them.  What I say here is probably worth less than you paid for it.  However...
Doing some thought exercises should pretty much answer your question.  Some things about the new MBP (which I intend to get, eventually) -
1GB of VRAM.  MPE in hardware mode, assuming it works with the GT650M (and no reason to assume it won't) will be somewhat hobbled with only a Gig of VRAM.
16G of RAM is probably enough but a bit on the tight side depending on what you're editing.
Spinning media: using a laptop for your primary editing rig is always a challenge due to storage.  The new MBPs have 2 Thunderbolt ports which is nice, so you'd be encouraged to add external storage via those ports.  But doing so is going to cost you some serious $$.
Can you do it?  I'd assume so.  Will it perform as well as a Mac Pro with a decent video card and a cubic f'load of RAM in it?  Probably not.  IMHO: I think you're foolish to walk away from the Mac Pro for PPro editing if you want to stay in the Mac world.  The new MBP laptops look superb, and after years of having cruddy displays on their 15" laptops, Apple has finally turned a weakness into a strength (2880x1800.. good grief!)  But, unless you start going nuts with Thunderbolt add-ons, the laptop is still going to be I/O-bound to some extent, and limited in what it can do from a video performance perspective.

  • U410 horrible performance out the box

Got a new U410 with Windows 8, 1TB hard drive, 24GB SSD, 8 GB RAM.
The performance has been terrible out of the box, freezes constantly on start up and after sleeping as well. Can take around 10-15 minutes or longer before it warms up a bit and provides acceptable performance but it can still lock up at a later time.
I did a factory reset, optimize and defrag of hard disk. There does not seem to be any app as a resource hog. Someone suggested I may have a faulty HD although like I said, the defrag did not come up with any bad sectors.
I also thought booting would be a lot faster with the 24GB SSD but it's no faster than my other laptop with no SSD.
Any suggestions as t what I should try or have we been shipped a lemon? Should I be requesting a replacement? Surely I should work fairly speedily out of he box?
    Thank you.

Unfortunately, the only way to get the best performance out of any new laptop is to perform drive reformat and clean install Windows like I did on my y470. Also, I prefer to install drivers from the manufacturer's website rather than Lenovo's as much as possible. If I remember correctly the only drivers I installed from Lenovo are "Management Engine Interface" and Lenovo Energy Management. Everything else came from Nvidia, Intel, JMicron, Renesas, Realtek, etc.
In the process, I lost some of the Lenovo apps that I didn't need like Veriface, One Key Theater etc. If you value these programs, you have to deal with the lower performance of the factory reset. However, if you don't need the extras that Lenovo provides with their factory reset, you can expect around 18 second boot time and 6 second shutdown time on a spinning hard drive with fresh Windows install. Above all, you will rarely, if ever, encounter freezing. Nothing beats the stability and reliability of a good clean install.
This is for Windows 7. For Windows 8, you should get less than 10 second boot time, and less than 6 second shutdown time.
Since you are using WIndows 8 with U410, I suggest you follow this Lenovo thread so that you get your SSD properly working, and you should get SSD like performance due to SSD caching. SSD Caching doesn't take effect until you have used your commonly accessed programs frequently.

  • TS3276 hi after updating to Mountain Lion, it becomes difficult to quit Mail, always have to Force Quit. And while Mail is on standby, the fan keeps on running full power, the laptop is hot. Why is this happening?

hi after updating to Mountain Lion, it becomes difficult to quit Mail, always have to Force Quit. And while Mail is on standby, the fan keeps on running full power, the laptop is hot. Why is this happening?

If your computer was hot it wasn't asleep - it either didn't go to sleep or it work up after you put it to sleep. I've seen both things happen. First, read this article and follow the instructions.
    1) For the next few days/weeks pay attention to the blinking light on the front of your computer when you close the lid. Don't put the computer into your backpack/case until it begins to blink. Wait a minute or so after it starts to blink to make sure it doesn't stop blinking - the signal it woke back up.
    2) having followed the above instructions, if you take the computer out and it is hot again or if you take it out and discover it has powered down (you'll know this because when it starts up the battery will be drained and you'll see a progress bar over a ghostly display that will eventually become normal) immediately start the Console program and perform a search on 'sleep' and then 'wake'. This should bring up all the recent log files about sleep state changes (going to sleep and waking up). You should see one for when you put the computer to sleep and put it away and the next one should be just after you got it out. You'll find at least one though that shouldn't be there. That will tell you when the computer work up (when it shouldn't have) and might give a clue as to why.
One of the whys could be a magnet that is making the computer think the lid has been opened.

  • JBO-25063: Operation getAllRowsInRange cannot be performed because the work

    hi
i am working with ADF BC,i create a read only form to retrieval of data and i add an input form to add new record ,when i run my application ,following errors has been occured.
    JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: java.lang.NullPointerException, msg=null
    null
JBO-25063: Operation getAllRowsInRange cannot be performed because the working set object is not bound.

I have been getting his error message recently.
I purchased a standalone Outlook 2013 last year, which runs on my Windows 7 64 bit PC.
In July my wife bought a laptop, which is on our LAN, and Office 365.
Maybe the messages started then, I cannot be sure.  It displays during conditions mentioned by the other people posting here.
Today I got the message after reading an e-mail and attempting to store it directly in an Outlook folder before closing it – no replying, no editing, no extended delay.
I did click on a link in it to view a commercial web page.
I then closed the message and attempted to store it with the result being the display of the error message.
I always have the latest updates installed automatically.
The above was on 9/9/2014.  On 9/10/2014 I opened a commercial e-mail and clicked to have the graphics downloaded.
I then closed the e-mail and was prompted if I wanted to keep the changes.
I selected yes and then the message displayed that says the e-mail could not be saved because it had been changed.
I opened the e-mail again to get the wording of the first prompt and found that the graphics had been saved and there was no prompt.
I then closed the e-mail and noticed that now there were two copies of it in the inbox.
I believe this is not the designed behavior of Outlook.
    A fix is needed.

  • How to improve the write performance of the database

Our application is a write intense application, maybe will write 2M/second data to the database, how to improve the performance of the database? We mainly write to 5 tables of the database.
Currently, the database get no response and the CPU is 100% used.
How to tuning this? thanks in advance.

Your post says more by what is not provided than by what is provided. The following is the minimum list of information needed to even begin to help you.
    1. What hardware (server, CPU, RAM, and NIC and HBA cards if any pointing to storage).
    2. Storage solution (DAS, iSCSCI, SAN, NAS). Provide manufacturer and model.
    3. If RAID which implementation of RAID and on how many disks.
    4. If NAS or SAN how is the read-write cache configured.
    5. What version of Oracle software ... all decimal points ... for example 11.1.0.6. If you are not fully patched then patch it and try again before asking for help.
    6. What, in addition to the Oracle database, is running on the server?
2MB/sec. is very little. That is equivalent to inserting 500 VARCHAR2(4000)s. If I couldn't do 500 inserts per second on my laptop I'd trade it in.
    SQL> create table t (
      2  testcol varchar2(4000));
    Table created.
    SQL> set timing on
    SQL> BEGIN
      2    FOR i IN 1..500 LOOP
      3      INSERT INTO t SELECT RPAD('X', 3999, 'X') FROM dual;
      4    END LOOP;
      5  END;
      6  /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    Elapsed: 00:00:00.07
SQL>Now what to do with the remaining 0.93 seconds. <g> And this was on a T61 Lenovo with a slow little 7500RPM drive and 4GB RAM running Oracle Database 11.2.0.1. But I will gladly repeat it using any currently supported version of the product.

  • Reformat a HP Pavilion g4 and reinstall windows 7 using product key at the back of the laptop

I would appreciate it if I someone can provide the instructions or point to where I can find them.  Also, how do I reinstall the other necessary softwares and drivers to properly run the laptop.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can do this as follows.
Create an installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version - ie Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate etc - that originally came with your notebook  ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source - Digital River.
    Windows 7 Images.
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found starting by entering either the full Model No. or Product No. of your g4 series notebook Here.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Running the laptop in "battery optimized cooling method" - harmful?

    Hello,
I have been getting very irritated by the amount of noise emitted by the fan whenever my laptop was plugged to the electricity, even while performing very simple tasks such as Internet browsing or word processing.
I have therefore switched the cooling method under Vista's Advanced Power Options from "maximum performance" to "battery optimized". Now the computer is pleasantly silent but I was wondering whether it might damage the laptop in any way when I run it in this mode despite being plugged to the AC. Should I perhaps also reduce the "maximum processor state", which is currently at 100%?
    Best regards,
    Martin

    Hello Martin
Believe me I use absolutely the same settings almost half year now. And I am satisfied. The notebook runs well and cooling fan is silent.
The question is for which operations you need your notebook. If you use it for every day operations like writing mails, checking different stuff in Internet, downloading music you do not need high performance level. I recommend you to use balanced power plan in power options. Only set the display brightness to higher level and you can continue to work.
Using the same power settings I have good working and absolutely silent notebook.
One other thing: before notebook comes to the market it must be properly tested and I really do not believe Toshiba will offer some settings that can damage notebook hardware.
Simply choose your favorite settings and be happy. ;)
