Performance Problem: qttask.exe 100% CPU

I have a new 2nd Generation iPod Shuffle. So I only want music files, and at this point they are all from my existing CD's and Windows Media Player files.
I run on an HP machine 640 mb memory, AMD 1295mhz running Windows XP Home SP 2. Definitely an old dawg.
I loaded iTunes and QuickTime. Everything works but the qttask.exe program runs at close to 100% CPU even with iTunes closed. Which slows everything down a bit...
I could not get iTunes to run w/o QT. I unchecked all of the video and graphics selection and updates on QT, but no luck. Does anyone have suggestion for settings or one of the QT 'clones' that don't have or use all of that video overhead or ???
Thanks!
Grutzbo

I am not sure why, but after doing all of the cleanup, unload and re-install recommended by Apple - the gttask.exe still ran at 100% CPU. So I took a shot at your recommendation and unflagged it in the Startup tab in the msconfig menu.
And iTunes seems to be working ok and the CPU usage bounces around between 30%-50%. Which aint bad for this broken down old box! So thanks, Mr Black!!
I am of course curious about what qttask.exe is supposed to do and why everything works without it? But I don't understand how water gets into the upstairs faucet so I don't need to know unless there is some risk. (I only use it for my G2 Shuffle so I can live without most of QT functionality.)
Thanks again!!

  • Microsoft.Exchange.AddressBook.Service.exe 100% CPU Usage

    Hi,
We have an exchange server 2010 and the Microsoft.Exchange.AddressBook.Service.exe used 100% CPU Usage suddenly. However, after rebooting the server, the CPU Usage of the above .exe is back to normal. Client cannot connect to the exchange server during
the high CPU Usage of the above .exe.
Any ideas for the above problems? Thank You.

    Hi
Microsoft.Exchange.AddressBook.Service.exe is related to OAB function.
Maybe mobile or client fails to download will cause this problem.
What was the fix for this?

  • Performance problems on non-Intel CPU's

    Hello,
Recently I have been looking into tracking down a performance problem with Adobe Flash on a couple of different Linux platforms.  I understand that there is limited hardware acceleration and that is actually important for my question.  On multiple netbooks I tested similar Flash based content and found that content my EeePC 701 with a 600Mhz Intel Celeron could play, a netbook with a VIA processor running at 1Ghz couldn't even come close to playing.  Running sysprof I see that 80+% of the time is spent within the libflashplayer library.
To my point, which you may or may not want to answer.  Is it possible that Adobe uses Intel's compiler to produce their binaries?  I only ask this because it has been documented that Intel's compiler explicitely disables certain optimizations for non-GenuineIntel processors, http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1567108/intel-compiler-cripples-code-amd-via-chip s
.   I have also examined the codepaths and see that libflashplayer.so does check /proc/cpuinfo for the vendor_id string in it's initialization logic.
I don't want to start conspiracy theories, but if any of this is valid at all, could it please be fixed? Thanks.

  • Egather2.exe 100% CPU Util

For quite a long time now, every Sunday morning, my CPU is pegged at 100% with egather2.exe being the culpret. A few months ago, there was an update which seemed that it was supposed to fix the problem... but it has not. Any ideas?
Do I need to remove the entire R&R software to get rid of this issue?
I end up needing to kill both the egather2 and the process which starts it (I can't recall the name) and then rebooting, every Sunday morning.
    Thanks

After a bit of research, I found that someone had tried editing the "opmn.xml" configuration and changing the port to 6102. Everything worked after I restarted the process from the command line using "opmnctl startall", "opmnctl reload".

  • Performance problem - mutexes with multi-cpu machine

    Hi!
My company is developing multi-threaded server program for
multi-cpu machine which communicates with Oracle database on separate
machine. We use Solaris 7, Workshop 5 CC and pthreads API.
We tested our program on 4 CPU E4500 with 2 CPU E420 Oracle server.
We upgraded E4500 from 4 to 8 CPU and to our surprise instead of
performance improvement we got performance degradation ( 8 CPU runs
    about 5% slower than 4 CPU ).
After a long investigation we found out that under stress load most of the
time our performs lwpmutex related operation.
With truss -c statistics was 160 secs in mutex operations and
about 2 secs was read/write in oracle client side library.
Here is output of truss for example:

    We have a several question:
    1. We always get the same mutex address : 0x7F2F3F60 even with different
binaries. It looks that all threads wait on one and magic
    mutex. Why?
    2. We read in article on unixinsider.com that on Solaris when mutex is

from truss output. What is solution for this problem? unixinsider.com
recommends native Solaris read-write lock with all threads as writers?
Is there any other solution? Should in improve performance?
    3. We heard that Solaris 8 has better pthreads implementation using a
one-level threading model, where threads are one-to-one with
lwp, rather than the two-level model that is used in the
standard libthread implementation, where user-level threads are
multiplexed over possibly fewer lwps. Are mutexes in this library
behave in "Solaris 7" way or do it put thread to sleep when it unlocks
the mutex? Is it possible to use this library on Solaris 7?
    4. Is there plug - in solution like mtmalloc or hoard for new/delete that change

  • COLW32.exe 100% CPU

Seems like the inventory process on my Vista desktops has lost it's mind in the past few days. The June PRU went on the 8th. And I ran some Windows Updates from this past patch Tuesday. Has anyone else had this happen or know of a fix?

Yes, but it hasn't changed. I peformed a test on a PC with no anti-virus with the same results. COLW32.EXE just sits and spins at 50% or 100% depending on the machine. The colw32.log file ends with these two lines.

  • DW.exe 100% CPU use

    I'm using DW CS3 on a Dell laptop, XP-SP2, 1gig Ram, 1.6ghz
processor. After 15 to 30 minutes of normal behavior DW starts
using 99% of CPU cycles (according to Windows Task Manager) for 3
to 5 minutes, effectively freezing the system. This can happen
while doing normal code editing, or it can happen when absolutely
nothing is going on. It will then release the system, but when you
click on something, it goes right back into 99% CPU use. It doesn't
seem to be associated with file transfers, but Task Manager does
report "I/O Other" activity as though it's doing something on the
    internet.
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks!!!

Are you running an antivirus on this box? Is it scanning
    realtime?

Problem Description: - We have developed a component which can extract different kind of document ext and for tiff images, we
    have used Tesseract exe.
While processing through an application program we process a tiff file through Tesseract exe and it is taking more time to complete process as compare to any other
machine and many times  or continuously; I have seen that CPU is reaching up to 100% and user is not able to do anything. Machine becomes in hang mode.
    Already Attempt: -
    I) – I tried to extract same series of document from another same kind of machine and I found that another machine is working absolutely fine.
II) –I tried to debug program on problem machine; I found that it is taking more time to process a tiff file as compare to any other machine. Then I found that more than one exe
is in Task Manager Program and each one is having 87 to 90 percent use of CPU.
III) - It think, because exe is taking more  time to process and on that time CPU becomes 100 % and when it goes to extract again for  another tiff document system hang,
because earlier exe is still in process.
Because program is running successfully in many machines and problem is coming from a single machine, so we are not able to find out exact root cause. Maybe it relates to Windows Program/Windows Patch/
    Anything Else.
As this issue is coming on client side and it has become critical to find the solution. So kindly let us know possible solution for the problem.
For any kind of input which can assist us to resolve the issue.
    I will be really thankful.

We have used all the way but not finding anything to resolve issue. Because it is occurring on only single machine over 1000. What can be possible cause and what should we check on machine for resolving it.

  • QTTask.exe hogging 100% cpu

This QTTask.exe is driving me nuts. It loads at startup, and renders my Vaio unusable as it takes up 95-100% of CPU time. I cannot kill it via Task Manager. Every time I remove the key which starts it automatically, it recreates it.
I don't understand why it is behaving like this on my machine, I have updated all my drivers etc to latest versions. I have the latest version of iTunes/Quicktime. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, run Registry Cleaners etc. Nothing will stop it.
    Any suggestions?
    thanks

Go to Start>Run and type in msconfig>click OK, then the Startup tab and uncheck qttask, this will get QT from loading at start up.
If the cpu keeps running 100%, disable all your, adware, anti virus, spyware, and whatever else is going on to protect your computer, cause one of them is likely not compatible with QT.

Is this a new application on this database?
Has it run well in the past?
I have had this happen before on a 32bit Windows server. Our problem was a poorly written procedure that kept pegging the cpu to 100%. You should be able to figure out what SQL is being used that is causing this problem, it will be the Top Working SQL most likely.
I also had this problem on a Logical Standby server which was trying to apply SQL to the SYS.AUD$ table. As soon as SQL Apply was started, the CPU went to 100%. Once I truncated that table, the cpu usage went back to normal. Not sure what you are using to monitor your database but if you can, try to find out what SQL is running when your CPU goes to 100%.

Awr report shows 98.1% of the time , waits on CPU .
Also Awr report shows that Host CPU is :79.9% Idel.
The second wait event shows only 212 seconds waits on db file sequential read.
Yet , 4 minute in 1 hour period is seems not an issue.

if the users are complaining about performance of the batch process, then that's what you should be looking at, not the entire system.I find it strange to see "end users" and "the batch process" in the same sentence (as it was in the first post). "End users" gives me the feeling of a significant number of concurrent sessions with people waiting for results in real time at the far end, while "batch process" carries the image a small number of large scale processes running overnight to prepare the data for the following morning.
I mention this because my first view of the AWR output was: you've got 16 CPUs, only three in use, virtually no users, and doing very little work, how can the users complain. (One answer, of course, is that the 13 CPUs could be locked out of use as far as Oracle is concerned). On the second read I decided that the "users" had gone home, and the complaint was simply that the batch process wasn't completing in time.
In this case I think "the entire system" IS "the batch process"
Determine which stored procedures and/or SQL statements took longer than usual and then find out why. Most likely you'll be able to find
everything you need in AWR views (DBA_HIST_SQL%) and ASH archive (DBA_HIST_ACTIVE_SESS_HISTORY).
If the batch process has changed dramatically and recently, then a simple first step might be to look at the current AWR report, find the few most time-consuming SQL statements, and use the awrsqrpt.sql script to find their history of execution plans.
But I'd also just look at the expensive SQL - bearing in mind, particularly, that there are very few user calls per second, yet many hundred executions per second: it strikes me that there could be quite a lot of PL/SQL going on doing something a little bit expensive many times or some PL/SQL function that calls some SQL that used to be called rarely from an SQL statement but is now (due, perhaps to a change in plan) being called much more frequently - so check SQL Ordered by Executions.

  • Some web pages causing 100% CPU use of iexplore.exe since Flash update

I'm having a problem with certain Amazon.com pages hanging my
Internet Explorer 6 using Flash Player 10,0,12,36, causing 100% CPU
use for iexplore.exe and requiring me to End Task to quit. All the
pages effected have an interactive mouseover Size and Color chart
that intially says "Loading" but then says "Select Size and Color"
once loaded. One mouseovers the various color patches and size
options, each time giving item availability in that option. When
the pages hang the IE browser with 100% CPU use that chart never
gets to the "Select Size and Color" point, instead stuck at the
"Loading" status. This happens most times, but not every time.
Sometimes the pages load correctly, after a brief lag as it loads
    the chart.
Amazon pages without this chart load fine.
The start of this problem coincides with updating Flash.
I can prevent the problem from happening almost every time if
I can quickly get my cursor into that chart area while the page
begins loading. If I allow the pages to load fully with no
interaction they will hang almost every time.
I have not noticed any problems on those same web pages using
    Firefox using Flash Player 9,0,124,0
I also have not noticed any issues with other sites using
Internet Explorer either. (YouTube, QVC, CNN...etc, all OK.)
I had posted for assistance on the Experts Exchange site and
there was some debate on whether the chart was a Java or
Flash-based chart, so initially it was being approached as a
possible Java issue, so I removed all Java versions on the system
and installed various versions, but the same problem persists.
I've downloaded but not run the Flash Uninstaller, as I'm
reluctant to uninstall the Firefox Flash version without knowing
for sure I could install 9,0,124,0 again.
I've downloaded an archived fp9_archive.zip, which seems to
indicate the contained files flashplayer9r124_winax.exe (Internet
Explorer) and flashplayer9r124_win.exe (Netscape) would be versions
9,0,124,0 to install after running the uninstaller.
Can anyone check a few of the links below and see if the
"Select Size and Color" chart is Flash based? If so, would
executing the files listed above install 9,0,124,0 into my
    respective browsers again?

    Hello,
For the last months, I repeatedly have the problem that sometimes (every 2nd or 3rd time) after resuming from hibernation, in a few cases also after disconnecting from the Internet, one or more instances of explorer.exe are consuming 100% CPU, but never

I you have any clue what might be going, I would be very happy to hear it. It's really annoying, as I have to kill explorer.exe and thereby close all my folder windows when this happens.
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    David Trapp

    Hello,
thanks for having a look. However, I already ran SFC before posting on this forum (as part of my own investigation) and it came back clean. RescueTime (a time tracking tool) is probably not the culprit because it happened also several times in the past without
RescueTime being running (that was because I had accidentally removed it from autorun at that time).
Unfortunately, I can't follow your "invalid date" explanation. I don't think an "invalid date" is anywhere involved; in fact, the method in question is called "_TreeInvalidateItemInfo" and not "_TreeInvalidDateItemInfo"
(note that there is only one "d"), so I assume its job is just to invalidate (and in turn, refresh) the cached information about nodes in the left pane's folder tree of the explorer window(s) - since the folder tree is the only NamespaceTreeControl
(whose corresponding class name is CNscTree) in explorer folder view windows. As I see it, something is causing explorer to repeatedly refresh the folder tree data, but I am stuck at finding out what exactly.
    Best regards,
    David Trapp
EDIT: Disassembling ExplorerFrame!CNscTree::_TreeInvalidateItemInfo confirms that, because it seems to call TreeView_SetItem for a tree node and its parent (possibly with all fields set to *_CALLBACK), and CNscTree::_UpdateItemDisplayInfo
    for the parent node.
EDIT2: I'd love to dig more into the trace, however I am hitting a wall at function names/addresses. Everywhere where I would expect a function name/address (such as the "by stack" views), I only see question marks instead. What
    could be the reason?

I upgraded to iTunes 10.5 on XP and now it and applemobiledeviceservice.exe use 100% CPU. How do I fix this?

When I called Apple Support to ask about the 100%  CPU usage, they wanted to charge me because my Ipod was out of warranty.  I insisted on talking to someone and finally got to talk to a software engineer for free.  He said that he had never heard of the problem in his three years at Apple.  Nonetheless, he sounded really interested and suggested that it might be a conflict with anti-virus software.   I deleted the antiviruse and that DID NOT HELP AT ALL.
It seems as if Apple could care less.    There is no official response.   Their primary response is to look at the Forum.   At least you find out that the problem isn't your fault, it really is Apple!!!!
So far the best solution is just to delete iTunes and use Mediamonkey to sync your pod.
    Apple, please fix this!!!!!

  • Crystalras.exe consuming 100% CPU usage

    Hi everyone,
When we try to open an instance of one of our Crystal reports from InfoView, the crystalras.exe process runs at 100% CPU usage and the report never shows up. After a few minutes, we get the following message:
The request timed out because there has been no reply from the server for 600,000 milliseconds.
Does anyone know where the problem could come from? Could this be because the report is retrieving too much data?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Dear Both,
I traced the RAS server as suggested by Tim and obtained a log that - I have to admit - is quite difficult for me to understand. Could I send it to one of you for examination? Thanks in advance.
Ted, please find below my answers to your questions:
Just to close out possible data source issues, are the reports going against Business Views or Universes?
The report is based on Business Views.
Do you have Processing Extensions specified for the reports?
Sorry but what are Processing Extensions?
Also, when you checked in the Crystal Reports Designer, was it Designer installed on the same machine where the page server and RAS server is running?
Yes, it is installed on the same machine.

Thank you both for your help. It is very appreciated.
