Performance Routing (PfR) with single router, dual ISP and load balancing

It looks like PfR can do this but I have only found information about this feature which will start using ISP2 once ISP1 reaches 75% usage. But this is not load balancing.
Can we accomplish load balancing utilizing a single router with dual ISPs using this PfR feature?
Or do we have to use another feature?
thank you in advance

I'm rusty using OER/PfR, but I recall it could load balance two links on same router.  The issue, I also recall, if doing BGP, OER/PfR has to detect a load imbalance, and there's a certain difference allowance, and OER/PfR takes some time to decide, so depending on actual traffic, it might not be obvious it's working.  If doing BGP, there's a hidden command (which I don't recall is) that will load balance the two links on the same router; then you use OER/PfR to dynamically refine the balance load.

  • DUAL ISPs and Locad Balancing with BM 3.9

I am running a Border Manager 3.9 server and we use a Dual WAN router to bring in our (2) ISPs from different vendors into (1) netcard on the server. The Dual WAN router does load balancing fine but I was wondering if there is a better more efficient way?
Would Border Manager allow multiple Public 10/100/1000 Netcards and do load balancing and fail over?
We run fine speedwise for our little company but it just seems wastefull to have (2) T1's coming into a 10/100 Dual WAN router.
    Just wondering,

No, that's basically the best way. I've got a number of clients set up to
do that, some of them with BMgr clusters behind the twin-wan routers. One
of them at one point even had 5 WAN links (using Xincom X16).

No. NetWare wasn't designed to do that with IP, though it could with IPX.

It generally is. What I usually have are clients with a T1 (fixed IP
addresses, mostly for email), and a cable modem/dsl connection (usually
DHCP). I set up load balancing to bias most of the outbound load onto
the cable modem (usually 5mps or greater), and there is usually a very
noticeable increase in browsing speed for the users.

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch and just did the update to IOS 5. Now I can't connect to my Netgear wifi router. My iPhone connects fine along with all of my other laptops etc. I have the router set with WPA-PSK [TKIP] security and an access list. I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?

Thanks Bob, I don't know why but it all of a sudden worked a few days later. It's a mystery but at least problem solved.

  • VPN device with dual ISP, fail-over, and load balancing

We currently service a client that has a PIX firewall that connects to multiple, separate outside vendors via IPSEC VPN. The VPN connections are mission critical and if for any reason the VPN device or the internet connection (currently only a T1) goes down, the business goes down too. We're looking for a solution that allows dual-ISP, failover, and load balancing. I see that there are several ASA models as well as the IOS that support this but what I'm confused about is what are the requirements for the other end of the VPN, keeping in mind that the other end will always be an outside vendor and out of our control. Current VPN endpoints for outside vendors are to devices like VPN 3000 Concentrator, Sonicwall, etc. that likely do not support any type of fail-over, trunking, load-balancing. Is this just not possible?

Unless I am mistaken the ASA doesn't do VPN Load Balancing for point-to-point IPSec connections either. What you're really after is opportunistic connection failover, and/or something like DMVPN. Coordinating opportunistic failover shouldn't be too much of an issue with the partners, but be prepared for lot of questions.

  • ARFC: Single Server and Load Balancing

    Hi All,
I am trying to create aRFC model. In SAP logon screen, I can see two tab pages - Single Server and Load Balancing.
Can you please let me know when we have to use which tab?
    Thanks
    TG

Single Server Connect or Load Balancing connect is completely independend from the location where SAP Gui Client is installed.
Single Server connect means that your are directly connecting to an ABAP Server using hostname and systemnumber you have to provide.
Load Balancing Connect means that you specify the message server of the central instance of an ABAP Server group. The SAPGUI first connects to the message server which will provide the SAPGUI with the information about the best performing ABAP server. SAPGUI will then connect to this ABAP server.
Single Server is suitable for small landscapes with lets say less than 4 application servers. In huger configurations (and those which I know will grow to more than 3 servers)I would prefer to use logon groups - aka Load Balancing.

  • Cisco 2811 Router with 3 ADSL card and load balancing

    Dear All,
    I have few queries:
    1. Does Cisco 2811 Router support 3 ADSL card?
    2. We are the ISP. I want to do load balancing with 3 dsl
    line on Cisco 2811 Router.
Please send me the linke for this configuration.
    Thanks/Regards
    Atul

    hi
In 2811 you have 4 HWIC and 1 NME you can install 1-port ADSL WAN Interface Cardon the HWIC slots.
Also just enable 3 default (equal cost) routes towards the interfaces which will take care of the load balancing.
if you need more info and inputs do post out with ur requirements along with network topology in place at present..

  • HTTP Tunneling and Load Balancing with Weblogic Server 6.1

We use T3 for Java client to application server communication (Weblogic Server
6.1) and keep the session open for the life of the client. We many customers
using this with load balancers and all works fine. We have just started to use
BEA's HTTP tunneling and I have a question concerning how this will work with
load balancers. Since the single T3 connection has been replaced with a series
of stateless HTTP connections, does the BEA tunneling code put session information
in the HTTP header? If so, what information does it place in the header. If
it does we should be able to use that to make sure that the load balancer always
sends HTTP requests with that session to the same application server.
    Thanks!

    Rick,
You may want to look at the Alteon and F5 configuration we have on edocs.

  • Failover and Load Balancing with JNDI Connection Pools

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out how would JNDI Connection Pooling work along with failover or DNS Load Balancing.
Would connections be distributed equally among the list?
Would the pool work with multiple heterogeneous connections (i.e. connections to different but equivalent servers ), or do all the connections in the pool have to be homogeneous (i.e. to the same server)?
    Thanks,

  • ACE 4710 and load balancing with sticky cookie

Configuring load balancing with SSL termination and stickiness for a couple of citrix xenapp servers.  I'm doing a source-NAT as the ACE resides in the DMZ and these particular servers reside on the inside arm of the firewall.  The ACE is in bridged mode to load balance web servers that reside in the DMZ.  Everything seems to work just fine, but the cookie stickiness does not seem to be working.

    Hi David,
As you may know, using Wireshark to look at an HTTPS capture is only useful if you've installed the server SSL key. This is why I find it easier to use something like LiveHTTPHeaders or HTTPWatch.
When using cookie-insert, the ACE will not create any dynamic cookie entries.  It will simply create one static entry for each rserver with a cookie value, such as R3911631338, and any client that gets load balanced to that rserver will receive a cookie with that value.  So what you see there is what is expected.
You are correct in that when using location cookies that the server supplies, the ACE will create a dynamic entry when it sees the server response with the cookie.   The cookie is included in the server's response, and the ACE will look for the value as configured.  The cookie will also be sent to the client.  If the cookie is not in the server's first response, you will need enable persistence-rebalance so that it will look in subsequent server responses.  If the browser opens new connections with that cookie, then the ACE will stick to the same server.
My suggestion would be to get sticky working with cookie-insert first.  Then if that meets your needs, go with that permanently.  If you need to use server cookies, then once cookie insert is working, migrate your sticky to cookie location.

  • Shared public IP with same tcp port (round robin/load balance)

    Hi all,
I want to know if I can do that with my ASA5515-X, I have two servers that can do the same thing, there are SSO servers, What I want to do is to publish the 2 servers on Internet with the same public IP address and on TCP 443.
Is it supported ? will it works like load balancing per sessions ?
or do I need to add an HLB between ASA and my SSO servers ?
    Thanks

    Hi Yann,
You can configure the ASA to allow traffic to your SSO server from outside on two public IP's. Users can hit either of the IP to reach the inside server. Now, load balancing would be achieved based on source devices sending request to public IP's. If source machine son internet use one public IP more to access the server, ASA can't do anything to load balance in such scenario. Here is how you can accomplish this:
Assuming SSO server on inside is 192.168.16.110 and two public IP's are 192.168.17.110 and 192.168.17.111
