  • How to generate OLAP DML code or CWM2 code outside of workspace manager 10g

I am using AWM 10.2, where I am creating cubes and dimensions etc. I can export the workspace into XML, but i want more, i want to generate definition of my OLAP, i want to see OLAP DML code for creating my workspace. Anybod has an idea ?
    1) How can I generate OLAP DML definition of my existing workspace ?
Second thing is, that I really don't understand the concept of CWM2, what is this good for ? Is my AWM automatically generating some CWM2 statements and executing it ? Where can i see them ? Why do i need another logical CWM definition when I have regular OLAP definition ?
    2) What is the role of CWM2 in OLAP ? How can i generate CWM2 code outside of my existing workspace ?

The DESCRIBE command will give you the definition of the object but it won't tell you anything about how objects should be populated. The API for Analytic Workspaces (AW/XML) takes responsibility for both object creation and object maintenance.
What is it that you might want to accomplish by using OLAP DML to create the objects?

  • Performance of workspace manager

I have created versioned tables in Oracle 9.2. It sits in DEC Unix OS. I have experienced performance degredation after versioning the tables. The largest table has about 20 million rows. Do I need to analyze the base table generated by versioning the tables?
    Help!

    Ashley
Analyzing the base table should definitely help performance. Also, if you think it will help, feel free to send me mail with your phone and we can have a conference call to help you with the performance issues.

  • Analytic Workspace Manager

    Hi
I am completely new to Oracle OLAP.
I have installed Oracle 10g(10.1.0.2) with OLAP option enabled.
I would like to create some cubes using Analytic Workspace manager. When I look into Oracle HomeIntegrated Management Tools, I wouldn’t find Analytic Workspace manager.
Do I need to install Analytic Workspace manager separately? If it comes along with the oracle suite, what did I want to do to have analytic workspace manager in my machine?
    Please help me.
    Thanks,

    Hi
    Thanks for the info.
I like to get more information regarding the same in version 10.1.0.2

AWM does need to be installed separately. Download it from OTN and install (really just unzip!). http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/htdocs/devlic.html?=http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/olap/AWM102030_Win.zip

  • Workspace Manager Wrong Aggregation

    Hi to all,
I've created a cube under Analytic Workspace Manager with its dimensions, hierarchies and measures. But when I view cube data, it aggregates only first row of fact table. For example:
    I have following fact table:
    User Sales
    John 15,30
    John 18,30
and when I see cube data the result is the following:
    John -> 15,30 indeed of John ->33,60
    Why?
    Thanks
    Giancarlo

    hi!
you're in the wrong forum, this is about the Oracle Workspace Manager (OWM), not the Analytical Workspace manager (AWM).
    Correct forum goes here:

  • Where to find Analytic Workspace Manager for Oracle9i?

    Hi,
I am looking for Analytic Workspace Manager for Oracle 9i. Could someone point me to the place it can be downloaded? On Oracle OTN there are only versions 10g and 11g. I couldn't find it on Metalink either.
Why I need so old version? We are about to upgrade our existing installation from 9i and I need it to see what's inside in our Oracle 9i database (9.2.0.6) before going into 10g.
Or maybe it is possible to use AWM 10g against database 9i? This would solve my problems.
Is it possible to upgrade analytic workspaces from oracle 9i into 10g with analytic workspace manager 10g?
    Best wishes
    Tomasz Michniewski

    Hello Laura,
Well, I was looking for this 9i version of AWM, and I was even thinking that AWM does not exist for 9i. Especially that in 9i documentation AWM is not mentioned.
But in the meantime I have found some install from some our backup cd-rom. It says:
    # Analytic Workspace Manager : 9.2.0.4.1
    # DATE: September 26, 2003
    # Platform Patch for : platform independent
    # Product Version # : 9.2.0.4.1
    # Product : Analytic Workspace Manager
    # Platforms
    # Analytic Workspace Manager uses a platform independent install and
    # has been approved on the following platforms:
    # - Windows NT 4.0, 2000 & XP
    # - Solaris 32 & 64-bit
    # - Linux 32-bit
    # - AIX 64-bit
    # - HP-UX 64-bit
    # - Tru64
    # Requirements
    # The Analytic Workspace Manager client requires the following Oracle9i
    # Database configuration:
    # - Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 Enterprise Edition Database
    # - RDBMS 9.2.0.4.0 patch set (PS# 3095277)
    # - OLAP 9.2.0.4.1 patch (PS# 3084634)
So is it the AWM for 9i?
    Best wishes,

  • Can i use "Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning " training for getting certification on "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054"

i have taken "Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning new" training from oracle university. Now i would like to get certified on "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054" exam. Is it possible ?

I essentially endorse and refer you to Matthews' and John's post above.
I would differ with slightly with Matthew because my guess is you would often be able to use like for like 12c training for an 11g certification ( I believe there are precedents).  BEFORE ANYONE ASKS THE OTHER WAY DOESN'T HAPPEN.
.... but totally concur with Matthew you would ill advised to procede on that basis without one of:
    - This being advertised as possible on the website : e.g. https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=654&get_params=p_id:169 ... option 2 show courses.
    - Confirmation from Brandye
    - Confirmation from an Oracle Certification Support Web Ticket ( http://education.oracle.com/pls/eval-eddap-dcd/OU_SUPPORT_OCP.home?p_source=OCP )
... The more common (and in my opinion usually better) way would be get your 11g DBA OCP ( or higher first) and then take the 1z0-054.  I am almost certain they will accept your 12c course for the 11g DBA OCP.
If you are choosing the route of not being a 11g (or 12c ) DBA OCP first but are on option 2 and relying on the course for certification then the issue is more in the balance and you are even more strongly advised to get confirmation before proceding (remember if the rules need to be changed for you only then any profit out of the exam is lost).
In general my understanding is Oracle would prefer to encourage people to train on the latest version of product that is available for training  and will prefer to avoid restrictions which would cause you to train at a lower version.  ( This is simply my guess at Oracle University Policy ... personal opinion only).
Having said all I have said I'd encourage you to go with the advice of the earlier two posts.

  • Workspace manager performance

    Hi
I'm a Java developper trying to act as a DBA so don't fire !
I'm trying to use the workspace manager on a 21M record DB
    on Oracle 10g/Windows.
I'm bulkloading using sqlloader into it. The load phase is done
with good performance (or at least it seems to me), in
about 30 minutes, which is consistent to numbers I get when
    I load in a non-version enabled table.
When I do the commitbulkloading though, it takes about 55 minutes
to complete. I realized 2 things:
1- it takes quite a lot of time creating and populating the discards table
with the entire content of the original table (!) - which looks like a bug
    to me
2- it spends tremendous amount of time doing:
    SELECT count(*)
    FROM listings_lt t1, listings_lt t2
    WHERE t1.listing_id = t2.listing_id
    AND t1.delstatus IS NULL
    AND t1.version = 0
    AND t2.delstatus IS NOT NULL
where listings_id is my PK on the listings_lt table.
I solved 1 by simply creating the discards table before calling commit -
then it does not create or populate it. But 2 puzzles me. I
    specified check_for_duplicates=FALSE in the CommitBulkLoading
API but it did not change anything.
Any ideas to speed things up ?
    /zog

    Hi,
Yes, #1 does indeed look like a bug. The current workaround to this is to create the discards table before calling commitBulkLoading as you indicated. This will be fixed.
The query in #2 is not used to check for duplicates. It is used to determine if all the keys that are being inserted are unique. There is currently no way to avoid this select, as it is needed internally by the commitbulkloading procedure. To increase its performance, I would recommend to analyze the table using dbms_stats before calling commitbulkloading. However, please note that when bulk loading 21M records into an empty table, this query will require a full table scan.
If that does not help, then post the execution plan for the statement. From that I may be able to determine if something else needs to be done.

    Ben

  • In sap bi performance tuning option is considered in cube not in ods, why?

    details about
    indexes,partitions,aggregates,compression,roll up
how these are helping to increase system performance
    why ods is not suitable?

    Hi,
Generally we do performance tuning on the cubes as most of the reportings are done on the cubes hpowever in case of DSO also we can increase the performance by creating indexes of deactivating SID generation flag if there is no reporting on the DSO.
Following 2 links will show you different aspects of performance tuning :-

You may create aggregates on the cube if some of  IO are being used in the query very frequently to enhance the performce of query execution.

  • Analytic Workspace Manager possible bug: Maintain Cube hangs

    Hi All,
I am a newbe, I have been following the tutorial "Building OLAP 11g Cubes". http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/olap_cube/buildicubes.htm
After the step "Maintain Cube SALES_CUBE", I got the information box "Loading facts for cube SALES_CUBE"...on the screen for the last 4 hours.
Is this normal? Should I kill the process and start again?
I am running Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 on a Virtual Machine with Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1 with 1GB RAM.
The Analytic Workspace Manager is 11.2.0.1.0 running on a Windows XP SP3.
    Any help is much appreciated

I'm getting a similar problem, I cannot maintain cubes that worked fine yesterday:
An error has occurred on the server

    at oracle.olap.awm.ui.SwingWorker$2.run(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
It all started after I tried to add a calculated measure to an existing cube (something I have done before in 11g...a feature I love).
This is too bad, so far I've been loving 11g Olap as compared to 10g Olap. But now 11g is starting to crop up these bullshit bugs as well. I guess OLAP is still too crappy to rely on for production....good thing I won't recommend a rollout of this product to my clients. It's a great tool for having fun with development, but using Oracle Olap + AWM in a real company is career suicide.

  • What are the best practices for Database management and performance tuning?

    Hello,
I want to ensure that I am using the best practices for managing and maintaining our Database.
Is there any documentation out there that outlines how to maintain and ensure top performance out of our database?
    Thank you!
    John Sefton

I appreciate the responses, however this is not the information I am looking for.
I am specificaly looking for best practices invloving the managment and performance tuning.
Example: are their tools that I can install that will monitor the size and response time of the database and alert me if there is degradation in performance?
Are there specific periodic activities I should be doing to garuntee that my database will continue to function that way it is supposed to?
Or is this a fire and forget solution that does not need this attention?

  • Performance Tuning Data Load for ASO cube

    Hi,
Anyone can help how to fine tune data load on ASO cube.
We have ASO cube which load around 110 million records from a total of 20 data files.
18 of the data files has 4 million records each and the last two has around 18 million records.
On average, to load 4 million records it took 130 seconds.
The data file has 157 data column representing period dimension.
With BSO cube, sorting the data file normally help. But with ASO, it does not seem to have
any impact. Any suggestion how to improve the data load performance for ASO cube?
    Thanks,
    Lian

Yes TimG it sure looks identical - except for the last BSO reference.
Well nevermind as long as those that count remember where the words come from.
To the Original Poster and to 960127 (come on create a profile already will you?):
The sort order WILL matter IF you are using a compression dimension. In this case the compression dimension acts just like a BSO Dense dimension. If you load part of it in one record then when the next record comes along it has to be added to the already existing part. The ASO "load buffer" is really a file named <dbname.dat> that is built in your temp tablespace.
The most recent x records that can fit in the ASO cache are still retained on the disk drive in the cache. So if the record is still there it will not have to be reread from the disk drive. So you could (instead of sorting) create an ASO cache as large as your final dat file. Then the record would already still be on the disk.
BUT WAIT BEFORE YOU GO RAISING YOUR ASO CACHE. All operating systems use memory mapped IO therefore even if it is not in the cache it will likely still be in on the disk in "Standby" memory (the dark blue memory as seen in Resource Monitor) this will continue until the system runs out of "Free" memory (light blue in resource monitor).
So in conclusion if your system still has Free memory there is no need (in a data load) to increase your ASO cache. And if you are out of Free memory then all you will do is slow down the other applications running on your system by increasing ASO Cache during a data load - so don't do it.
Finally, if you have enough memory so that the entire data file fits in StandBY + Free memory then don't bother to sort it first. But if you do not have enough then sort it.
Of course you have 20 data files so I hope that you do not have compression members spread out amongst these files!!!
Finally, you did not say if you were using parallel load threads. If you need to have 20 files read up on having parrallel load buffers and parallel load scripts. that will make it faster.
But if you do not really need 20 files and just broke them up to load parallel then create one single file and raise your DLTHREADSPREPARE and DLTHREADSWRITE settings. Heck these will help even if you do go parallel and really help if you don't but still keep 20 separate files.

  • Hyperion EPM 11.1.2 Performance tuning

    Hi
Can any one let know performance tuning ofe Hyperion 11.1.2 Planning , BIPlus workspace and EAS as we are having issues of slowly running webforms, FR reports and Calc and BR taking time to open and run and login taking time.
    Thanks

Per CL's point sizing servers does depend on experience. Worst case you can refer to the oracle reference diagrams at: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epm_install_start_here_11121/frameset.htm?ch04s02s04.html
On the 8 GB of ram it depends on what you have on the server. If you review the 100 user planning reference configuration you will note they have 3 servers in this configuration; so if you were to install everything on one machine in simple terms add up the number of cores + amount of memory on each and that would be a 10 core machine with 32 GB of ram.
Regarding virtual servers -- it really depends on the physical servers backing those. I've seen virtual work very well and really awful. The really awful servers happen to be running on 4 year old physical servers. The really well cases were on brand new hardware dedicated to the environment. The newness of the infrastructure and the management of it make a world of difference. You want modern servers and people that know how to handle virtual machines for applications which actually perform work; sometimes IT wants to give you bare minimums and make you prove your application is using it -- which is hard to do until you let all your users have the application and now you have been given servers which are too small and your users are not thrilled about the lack of performance which can impede adoption especially if they are moving from an Excel centric world where they have a dedicate set of processors and your IT gives you one virtual server that is less powerful than one user desktop.
    Good luck,
