Performance vs. Pathscale EKO on AMD64

Does anyone know how the Studio11 alpha compilers compare in performance to the Pathscale EKO on AMD64 platforms?

They do not cover Sun Studio 11 alpha compilers there. Sure, they use product quality releases only
I would be happy with anecdotal info.We are performing our own benchmarking so comparison results will be published soon
But now... I hope you will be satisfied with data below. You can see that in some tests Sun wins, in other tests Pathscale wins, and geometric mean times is just slightly different. I interpret it as performance parity

    I'm just starting to port a large FORTRAN77 application (SuSE 9.3 on v20z), so I'm very impressed to even see the link stage without any mods.
    I think it would be very valuable to eventually have the Sun performance/vector libraries available for AMD64 linux.

    I just stumbled into the same problem.
    Before I was able to compile 90,000 lines of Fortran90 successfully. Performance of the executable was very reasonable already.
    I expect that the 64-bit performance will be even better, but the sunmath library is missing...
    I'm looking forward to the upcoming releases !

  • How to Perform In-Place Upgrade of Windows Vista Home Professional amd64

    I'm trying to perform an in-place upgrade of Windows Vista Home Professional amd64 but the setup process fails stating that I need to remove Windows PowerShell prior to the upgrade.
    I didn't have http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928439 installed so I couldn't uninstall it.
    I checked Windows features and PowerShell and the ISE were listed.
    I tried removing it (via optionalfeatures.exe) but it fails with 'An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed.'
    I tried installing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928439 then removing the Windows feature - same error as above.
    I tried installing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 then removing the Windows feature - same error as above.
    I tried uninstalling http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928439 then removing the Windows feature - same error as above.
    I tried performing an in-placce upgrade again and it continues to say that Windows PowerShell needs to be removed.
    I cannot remove PowerShell (or the ISE) via ocsetup.exe as no such option exists according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff716463.aspx
    I tried removing it with DISM via /online /Remove-Package /Disable-Feature, but "DISM does not support servicing Windows Vista with the /Online option."
    I tried sfc /scannow again - same 'Windows
    Resource Protection' error.
    I tried the in-place upgrade again and it still needs PowerShell to be removed.
    There have been chkdsks and reboots peppered throughout this process.
    I don't know what else to try & I  feel like I'm stuck in a possibly crazy catch 22 situation.
    Note: This is a Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 64-bit machine.
    For those that need more history on how I got here, I'm going to refer you to my 'Windows
    Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation' post in the, incorrectly categorized, Windows 7 forums.  In short:
    Whenever I run Windows updates, all the updates fail.  It doesn't matter if I do one, all or something in between - they all fail.
    I ran sfc /scannow but that fails with 'Windows
    Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation'
    I tried performing an offline scan as well but that failed with the same 'Windows
    Resource Protection' error.
    Not sure what to do at this point and I don't know what logs would be helpful for you to review at this stage (cbs.log, windowsupdate.log, other?)

    Please try below and check if we can boot normally now.
    1.
    Boot to Recovery console2. Use the backup
    System registry hiv to replace the current hiv
    In the Recovery Console.
    In CMD, go to:
         %systemroot%\System32\Config\
    Run: ren system system.old
    Go to:
         %systemroot%\System32\Config\regback
    Run: copy
         %systemroot%\system32\config\regback\system %systemroot%\system32\config
    Restart your computer.
    After that, please try to test if the server can boot to normal mode now.

  • Linux AMD64, JDK 1.5_03: slow performance with large heap

    Tomcat app server running on jdk 1.4.2 on 32 bit Linux configured with mx1750m, ms1750m, runs fast. Returns 2MB of data through HttpServlet in under 30 secs.
    Moving the same app server to 64 bit on jdk 1.5.03 configured with mx13000m, ms10000m, the same request for data takes 5-20 minutes. Not sure why the timing is not consistent. If the app server is configured with mx1750m, ms1750m, performance is about 60 secs or less.
    I checked java settings through jstat. -d64 is the default. Why would increasing the heap cause such slow performance? Physical memory on the box = 32MB.
    It looks like it's definitely java related since a perl app making a http request to the server takes under a minute to run. We moved to 64bit to get around 1.7GB limitation of 32bit Linux but now performance is unacceptable.

    I Aggree, a AMD 64 with only 32 MB of memory would be a very strange beast indeed, heck, my graphics card has 4 times that, and it's not the most up-to-date.
    Keep in mind that switching to 64 does not only mean bigger memory space but also bigger pointers (on the sub-java level) and probably more padding in your memory, which leads to bigger memory consumption which in turn leads to more bus traffic which slows stuff down. This might be a cause for your slowdown, but that should not usually result in a slowdown as sever as the one you noticed.
    Maybe it's also a simple question of a not-yet-completely-optimized JDK for amd64.

  • [webgl] sluggish performance ( /dev/nvidia0 Operation not permitted )

    We (folks on #archlinux already tried helping) have been at this for hours now... no solution found yet.
    summary: webgl works but performance is sluggish(20 to 30fps) which makes me assume it's falling back to software rendering for some unknown reason
    already tried many things: vmalloc kernel parameters, irq control left to bios/archlinux, being in the video group, not being in the video group, having an xorg.conf, not having an xorg.conf, different AGP aperture sizes in BIOS, regular gl performance is normal (60 fps (capped to display refresh) in glxgears), only webgl slugs, card (GT 7600 256MB VRAM) should support the required shader language version for webgl (and webgl performance is only sluggish in linux... so I think it must be a configuration issue on some driver/kernel/browser setting?)
    Different browsers show different messages when started from the console but I don't know what to make of those and googling them did not reveal any solutions so far either.
    browsers tested: firefox, google-chrome(from AUR), chromium
    window managers tested: enlightenment, fluxbox
    kernel: linux-lts
    driver: nvidia-304xx-lts (can not use Nouveau as Nouveau keeps locking up the GPU)
    It's a fresh archlinux installation (Ubuntu had the same performance problem btw in case that might be useful to know for looking for the cause).
    Everything I tried so far, did not change anything about the sluggish webgl performance problem.
    One thing I noticed is that /dev/nvidia0 and /dev/nvidiactl both do not exist until after "startx". Could that be a problem?
    Here are some logs, hoping someone sees something which looks suspicious and knows what else I could try to make it work.

    Digging around the web I found how to enable fastwrites and did so by
    creating a file /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf
    with this content:
    options nvidia NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1 NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1
    after reboot, startx
    cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status

    The problem of sluggish webgl performance persists though and the
    browsers as described in the OP are still giving the same messages.

  • Upgrading from Exchange 2007 SP2 to SP3 stops and fails with Performance Counter

    We are upgrading from Exchange 2007 SP2 to SP3.
    Exchange Server is on Windows 2008 Enterprise 64 bit OS -SP2
    DC is on windows 2008 Enterprise 32 bit OS - SP2
    When we run Exchange SP3 setup.exe GUI, it runs through the pre-requisites completely and then starts to configure the Hub Transport services but @ exactly 55% it throws an error window "Exchange Server Setup encountered an error"
    On repeating this process i noticed it throws the same error at 55% while "Performance COunter Configuring". Please find below the entries of exchangesetup.log

    Appreciate if someone can help us move forward in this scenario.
    We have
    1. disabled anti virus and tried.
    2. removed watermarks and action entries in the registry
    3. tried almost everything mentioned on google but i am not able to move forward.
    Please help. we need this as part of our migration to Exchange 2013 for co-existence.
    Thank you.

  • Performance / stability issues with BDB 3.3.62 while checkpointing

    Hi,
    first of all: we use BDB 3.2 for more than a year within our application and we never had any performance or stability issues. Now we are about to release a new version of our software with BDB 3.3 and we found some problems during our release tests.
    This is the situation: we have implemented some cleanup routines that make very heavy use of the BDB environment. The common usage pattern is to scan the database (about 300GB with >> 100 million items) and than delete a lot of items from the database. The first versions of our cleanup routine worked without any problem but during performance tuning of our code we suddenly and reproducible encountered segmentation faults in the com.sleepycat.je.recovery.Checkpointer thread. We analysed more that 10 VM crashes and ALL crashes were related to Checkpointer thread. (Linux 64 bit, JDK 1.5.0_013 / 1.6.0_06)
    After we removed our performance tuning (only application logic – nothing BDB-related) the VM crashes disappeared – so it looks like some kind of problem which only occurs under high load conditions. Next thing we tried was enabling our performance tuning and setting Ceckpointer configuration to default (write a checkpoint after 20MB) before that we used time based checkpointing with 60 sec interval.
    With Default Checkpointer configuration there were no VM-crashes but performance was very slow!
    Finally my question: What Checkpointer configuration would you recommend for an environment that is under very high load with regard to delete operations? Would you recommend using “high priority Checkpointing”? Would you recommend time- or data-based checkpointing?
    It looks like Checkpointing every 60 seconds was not a good idea but 20MB seems to be too slow.
    This leads to another question: What does a longer Checkpointing interval mean for recovery time? Does recovery take substantially longer if checkpointing is done less fequently?
    Any help would be very much apprechiated.

  • Amd64 steppings and codes for info.

    You can find the 'core code' (sometimes refered to as the 'stepping code', though technically it's not a stepping in the true sense of the word, but can indicate the stepping) located on the heatspreader or underneith the heatspreader on a black label at the edge of processor. Should look something like:
    ADA3400AEP5AP
    AAALC0341MPMW
    F447141J30044
    Here is a brief guide to understanding these 3 lines of code on AMD processors:
    ADA3400AE5AP - 1st line
    ADA ----- ADA = AMD A64 Desktop, AMA = AMD A64 Mobile DTR, AMN = AMD A64 Mobile
    3400 --– model number or performance rating (PR)
    A –------- package type (A =754pin Lidded OuPGA, B=754pin Unlidded OuPGA, C=940pin Lidded CuPGA)
    E –------- default voltage (C=1.55v, E=1.50V, I=1.40v)
    P –------- max case (heatspreader?) or die temp (O=69oC, P=70oC, X=95oC)
    5 –------- L2 cache (3=256KB, 4=512KB, 5=1MB)
    AP –----- core stepping (AK=C0, AP=C0, AR=CG, AT=CG, AX=CG)
    AAALC0341MPMW - 2nd line
    AAALC is the 'core code'. As a general rule when comparing 'core codes' that have the same starting letter (ie A), then the higher up the alphabet the other letters are, the better it is. Thus AAALC should be better than AAAHC.
    0341, the 4 numbers after the core code refer to the date of manufacture. The first 2 numbers refer to the year and the second 2 numbers refer to the week. In the above case 03=2003 and 41=week 41. Generally the newer the processor the better it should be. So you might find a week 41 AAALC that overclocks better than a week 34 one. Though some weeks tend to be better than others, so it's not always true.
    MPMW, supposedly one user claims that in the 'WPMW' code, the letter M (ie the 3rd letter) refers to the batch or wafer. Supposedly the lower this letter, the better. Another user agreed and cited that they had seen and XPAW do very well, XPMW do averagely well and TPXW do worse than average. Some cited a AMD T-Bred B datasheet as pointing this out. Even saying that if it's A, B, C they are early batches of the week and good. But if they are an 'M' it could refer to combined lots from many batches that needed to be rated lower. Plus others like R, I, S, and even digits like 1 to 9, with it being suggested the numbers are worse lots than the letters. However, another user also seems to think this 3rd letter is somehow related to the to default vcore or threshold voltage required to run at stock speeds and that the higher the letter, the better.
    F447141J30044 - 3rd line
    The third line has been suggested as stating the production line (first character, ie F) and some kind of batch and serial number identifier (ie 447141J30044). Certainly the first character of the third line in the past with Athlons, has been used suggest good overclocking cores. Ones with letters (Y, K, etc) would seem to overclock a bit better than ones with numbers (9, 7, etc). Y's used to be the best overall, though this was only noted by studying T-Bird Athlons. No study has been done to see if this holds true with AthlonXPs, so most only go by 'core code' and date of manufacture now.
    Noticed a comment about some seem to think the last 4 digits (ie 0985) refer to the cores number in that batch and that a lower number is better (one user claims anything 0150 or below is very overclockable). Maybe could be related to the location of the core on the silicon wafer, lower number means closer to the centre. In theory, cores made from the centre of the silicon wafer are of better quality than cores made on the outer edge. However, no proof to back up such theory as yet. Infact one user claimed with their two same stepping AthlonXPs, the 0112 one overclocked better than the 0014 one.
    The C0 stepping. Voltage is 1.50v for desktop and 1.40v for mobiles. This stepping can be identified by the following 2 letter code at the end of the OPN (ie ADA3400AEP5AP) and by CPUID:
    A64 Desktop ---: AP (CPUID F48h)
    A64 Mobile -----: AP (CPUID F48h)
    A64 FX -----------: AK (CPUID F58h)
    Thus:
    A64 3000+ -----------: ADA3000AEP4AP (512k, 1.50v, C0, F48h)
    A64 3200+ -----------: ADA3200AEP5AP (1MB, 1.50v, C0, F48h)
    A64 3400+ -----------: ADA3400AEP5AP (1MB, 1.50v, C0, F48h)
    A64-M 3000+ DTR ---: AMA3000BEX5AP (1MB, 1.50v, C0, F48h)
    A64-M 3200+ DTR ---: AMA3200BEX5AP (1MB, 1.50v, C0, F48h)
    A64-M 3400+ DTR ---: AMA3400BEX5AP (1MB, 1.50v, C0, F48h)
    A64-M 2800+ ---------: AMN2800BIX5AP (1MB, 1.40v, C0, F48h)
    A64-M 3000+ ---------: AMN3000BIX5AP (1MB, 1.40v, C0, F48h)
    A64-M 3200+ ---------: AMN3200BIX5AP (1MB, 1.40v, C0, F48h)
    A64 FX-51 -------------: ADAFX51CEP5AK (1MB, 1.50v, C0, F58h)

    Some commented they have seen quite a few CAAOC 0352XPMW all do at least 2.4GHz on aircooling. Plus between week 0351-0352 supposedly are good cores, along with XPMW ones. They cite their A64 3400+ XPMW doing 2.6GHz on aircooling.
    The new CG stepping, has a few tweaks including energy saving, memory compatibility and performance. Still 1.50v Vcore for desktops and 1.40v for mobiles. It has been suggested all the initial S939 processors will be CG stepping. Infact there are actually 3 CG steppings SH7-CG, DH7-CG and CH7-CG. Again, these stepping can also be identified by the 2 letter code at the end of the OPN (ie ADA3400AEP5AR) and by CPUID:
    A64 Desktop ---: AX (DH7-CG, CPUID FC0h), AR (SH7-CG, CPUID F4Ah)
    A64 Mobile -----: AR (SH7-CG, CPUID F4Ah)
    A64 FX -----------: AT (SH7-CG, CPUID F5Ah)
    Thus:
    A64 2800+ -----------: ADA2800AEP4AX (512k, 1.50v, DH7-CG, FC0h)
    A64 3000+ -----------: ADA3000AEP5AX (512K, 1.50v, DH7-CG, FC0h)
    A64 3200+ -----------: ADA3200AEP5AX (512K, 1.50v, DH7-CG, FC0h)
    A64 3000+ -----------: ADA3000AEP4AR (512k, 1.50v, SH7-CG, F4Ah)
    A64 3200+ -----------: ADA3200AEP5AR (1MB, 1.50v, SH7-CG, F4Ah)
    A64 3400+ -----------: ADA3400AEP5AR (1MB, 1.50v, SH7-CG, F4Ah)
    A64-M 3000+ DTR ---: AMA3000BEX5AR (1MB, 1.50v, SH7-CG, F4Ah)
    A64-M 3200+ DTR ---: AMA3200BEX5AR (1MB, 1.50v, SH7-CG, F4Ah)
    A64-M 3400+ DTR ---: AMA3400BEX5AR (1MB, 1.50v, SH7-CG, F4Ah)
    A64-M 2800+ ---------: AMN2800BIX5AR (1MB, 1.40v, SH7-CG, F4Ah)
    A64-M 3000+ ---------: AMN3000BIX5AR (1MB, 1.40v, SH7-CG, F4Ah)
    A64-M 3200+ ---------: AMN3200BIX5AR (1MB, 1.40v, SH7-CG, F4Ah)
    A64 FX-51 -------------: ADAFX51CEP5AT (1MB, 1.50v, SH7-CG, F5Ah)
    A64 FX-53 -------------: ADAFX53CEP5AT (1MB, 1.50v, SH7-CG, F5Ah)
    Cool'n'Quiet feature has changed with the CG Stepping. So instead of the previous powering saving state of 800MHz and 1.30v (35W TDP), the CG stepping can manage 1.0GHz and 1.10v (22W TDP). The A64 3400+ also gets an extra power saving state too, 1.8GHz and 1.30v. There is also reduced requirements for AMD64 interface logic energy consumption.
    The CG stepping is also meant to bring better memory performance via a "2T memory timing" that allows for higher density or frequency memory. It should also improve memory compatibility by no longer requiring identically paired modules for the 2nd and 3rd slots with 3 dimm slots.
    However, some claim the CG Stepping is slightly slower than the C0 stepping. Though, there are some C0 vs CG benchmarks seeing how different memory config and timings effect things. With 1 module no real difference. 3 mixed modules the CG works, the C0 doesn't. With 3 identical modules C0 doesn't work with 2.5-3-3-7 but the CG did. At CL3-3-3-7 the CG is clearly a bit slower than the C0, but not much. Comparing CG 2.5-3-3-7 vs C0 CL3-3-3-7, you find some benchmarks (inc 3DMark) the CG is slightly faster and some the C0 is slightly faster, though both end up with same SuperPI 1M time of 44s.

  • Solaris 10, amd64, JVM crash at short time after startup

    Hi All,
    I have an application which allocate 10G of memory for his Heap, run on 4 dual core amd64 CPUs, 16G RAM machine and crash in 98% of the cases at short time after startup. This is a customer machine.
    I have a similar machine for tests with only 2 dual core amd64 CPU and 12G RAM and I don't experience any crashes running application with similar configuration, similar version of JDK and similar input data.
    I have tried with different GC algorithms, but we obtain crashes sonner or later. I rare cases when application manage to start seems that CMS offer the greatest performance.
    There is a bug in JVM? Knows anybody an workaround for this?

    I created a small test which somehow emulate the real application and I obtain the same results: on test machine run without any issues on live machine it crashes all the time.

    I've experienced the same crash problem for my application in a Sun Fire x4600 M2..
    My application which allocates 50G of memory for his Heap, runs on 8 quad core amd64 CPUs, 64G RAM machine and crash in 98% of the cases at short time after startup.
    If I run my application on a different machine, for example a Sun Fire 280R with 2 CPUs UltraSPARC-III+ 1.2Ghz 8MB, there are no crashes.
    I think the problem is related to the AMD 64 bits CPU architecture.
    I filed a bug to the Sun Bug DB with ID 1415527, but it hasn't been published yet.
    I cannot understand why, since it seems to be a problem common also to other users.
    Here's part of my last hs_err_pidXXX.log file:

  • Performance counter definition file is invalid

    I've been trying to resolve some of the many issues I've run into after installing Exchange 2013 CU2 as a fresh install before migrating my users from 2007.  We'd run into this bug that was generating a ton of event logs for missing performance counters:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2870416
    It includes a PowerShell script to reregister all of the performance counters that come with Exchange 2013.  When running it on my servers, it generated an error for one of the performance counter definition files.
    53 C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Setup\Perf\InfoWorkerMultiMailboxSearchPerformanceCounters.xml

    I opened the files in Notepad and this one didn't have any obvious errors or differences in structure compared to the other files.  An internet search showed no one else reporting this error processing this file that I could find.  I'd be curious
    if anyone else running CU2 is able to register this performance counter.
    New-PerfCounters -DefinitionFileName "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Setup\Perf\InfoWorkerMultiMailboxSearchPerformanceCounters.xml"

    That would take MS about 10 seconds to fix in a patch lol!  You seem to have strong working knowledge of the PerfCounters.  I just installed CU7 and have successfully worked through all of the counter issues with the exception of one: MSExchange
    LiveIdBasicAuthentication.  I can't find the PerfCounter that I need to register anywhere and it is driving me nuts!  I clearly just need to install the counter, but I can't find the definition or really any information on it at all.  I even
    replicated the the disks of the exchange server, extracted all of the archives in the installed directory and the source media, and indexed the contents of anything even remotely text based.  I can't find this file or a reference to it anywhere.  If
    you Google it all you get back is some bogus torrent site! Hoping you'll be able to point me in the right direction...

  • Assert error/hangs running the performance sample code

    Hi,
    I'm doing some work to understand how fast I can expect Berkeley DB to run and I found the 2006 white paper on [Performance Metrics and Benchmarks|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/berkeley-db/pdf/berkeley-db-perf.pdf] so I downloaded the [sample code|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/berkeley-db/files/perf.zip] and made a couple of fixes to make it run with 4.7.25 (shown at the end).
    When I run 'make test' it frequently hangs on the "Transactional Data Store (write, in-memory logging)" test under OS X 10.5.7 and under Debian lenny (kernel 2.6.26-1-amd64).
    If I rebuild BDB with --enable-diagnostic I get this assertion error.

    Hi,
    I reproduced your problem on Ubuntu 4.2.3 with db 4.7.25 and saw the same assert error as you. From the error message, the program asserts error/hangs at the "Transactional Data Store (write, in-memory logging)", that is calling op_tds() with DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY as the flags.
    The problem comes from your change on the sample code that the DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY is set with wrong API. The DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY should be set in DB_ENV->log_set_config(). Please refer to [DB_ENV->log_set_config|http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/api_c/env_log_set_config.html] and its flag DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY.
    I change env's setting flags in op_tds() as follows. In this way, the error I saw is eliminated and the program works as expected.
    The original code is:
    PERF_CHECK(
            dbenv->set_flags(dbenv, DB_AUTO_COMMIT | txn_flags, 1) == 0);"
    {code}
    I change it to:
    {code}
    if (txn_flags == DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY) {
            PERF_CHECK(
               dbenv->log_set_config(dbenv, DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY, 1) == 0);
            txn_flags = 0;
    PERF_CHECK(
            dbenv->set_flags(dbenv, DB_AUTO_COMMIT | txn_flags, 1) == 0);
    {code}
    Please apply the change and l*et us know if it works on your machine.

    Emily Fu, Oracle Berkeley DB

    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 128147 Jan 8 02:36 /opt/sun/sunstudio10/prod/bin/../lib/amd64/dbxruntime/libcollector.so
    And I've run ldconfig too:
    [root@sun0 etc]# strings ld.so.cache | grep -i collect
    libcollectorAPI.so

    libcollector.so
    /opt/sun/sunstudio10/prod/lib/amd64/dbxruntime/libcollector.so
    Is there some installation option that I need to revisit ?
    TIA,
    Alok

    After installation, libcollector should be in the following locations:
    ./lib/amd64/libcollector.so ->
    ../../prod/lib/amd64/dbxruntime/libcollector.so
    ./lib/libcollector.so ->
    ../prod/lib/dbxruntime/libcollector.so
    ./prod/lib/amd64/dbxruntime/libcollector.so
    ./prod/lib/dbxruntime/libcollector.so
    The 'lib/amd64' version of the library is not the same as the 32-bit 'lib' version, so you'll need to figure why the amd64 version is not on your system.
    In the meantime, you may want to see if you can 'collect' on a 32-bit version of your application.

  • Help with building AMD64 System

    Hi ppl
    I need some advice please
    I am building an AMD64 system for my friend and want advice from anyone (especially those with 64s already)
    The motherboard I will build with is the MSI K8N Platinum nForce3 250 with a 3200+ AMD64
    The questions are:
    1. What is the best cooler to use:
    Thermaltake Silent Boost or Zalman 7000 Al/CU
    (I am thinking the silent boost as it is £12 cheaper and the performance is close isnt it. The silent boost is very good on my AMD XP and the Zalman is just as good on my P4)
    2. What PSU should I use with the AMD64:
    Antec TruePower 480W (similar to mine plus seperate rails) or
    Enermax EG465AX-VE(W)FCA Diamond Blue 460W
    3. What RAM would be best for this motherboard out of these 3:
    (Will performance be hit hard if CAS 2.5 is used otherwise CAS 2 is over budget)
    Kingmax PC3500 SuperRAM 433Mhz http://overclock.co.uk/customer/product.php?productid=17006&cat=310

    The Tagan will more than handle a 3200+ and 9800 Pro, are you serious? it will handle anything you can possibly throw at it and not even break a sweat. This PSU is a monster!
    Another review: http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews/review.php?dXJsX3Jldmlld19JRD02OTQ=
    "The results speak for themselves. Both PSU's were equally able to cope with the testing, each holding close to the target output voltage. The +3.3V and +5V results are the most interesting. The Tagan has discrete supply for each, while the Enermax derives each output voltage from a shared supply. Under load, heavy load on one rail may pull the other rail down too on the Enermax, while theoretically the Tagan should be able to do much better.
    The adjusted average figure is derived with peak and trough results removed, stopping them from skewing the results, however it's that peaking of output voltage that can cause a PSU the most problems in supplying clean output. The Tagan, with its return loop, also has an added advantage in high load situations, reducing ripple noise.
    While both PSUs seem very competent, indeed I'm proud my long term Enermax did so well, a PSU that takes a newer, refined approach to supplying clean output voltage, like the Tagan, should always win outright.
    While it's unscientific at best, the Tagan shines, holding steadfast to the desired voltages on each rail, regardless of load. "

    http://www.casemodworld.com/article147.html
    "Conclusion
    We have all seen power supplies that claim to be 'silent' before. None that I have seen have yet proven to be as good as the Tagan. I had to double check that it was running when I first powered up. The only thing I could hear was the exhaust fan in my case, the PSU was inaudible.
    What we like about the Tagan -
        * Large Heatsinks
        * Excellent Silent Cooling system
        * Most silent PSU we have come across
        * Lots of molex connectors
        * Neater cables due to twisted wires
    What we don't like about the Tagan -
        * Large mainboard adapter needed
    Anyone notice the lack of dislikes? I could only think of one and even that is being picky.
    Overall this PSU is simply amazing, the voltages are perfect, is even more silent than I thought and its very reasonably priced. What more could you ask for?"
