Performance Worse After Updating Roaming Capability

I've recently moved to the L.A. area from out of state.  A week after being here for a week, the roaming indicator began to appear.  I called 228 to update the roaming capabilities and since doing that my battery life has drastically been shortened and the roaming indicator is still present.  Would anyone have suggestions on what my next step to resolve the battery life and indicator issue?

  • Graphics performance worse after most recent update

I just ran the most recent MacBook Pro update and now my graphics performance in WoW is terrible. It has rendered the game unplayable. It's probably a good thing, mind you, because I spend too much time playing anyway. But still, it shouldn't have made performance worse.
Any way to go back or fix this problem?
    Thanks!

I sent an email to Blizzard last night, but I wouldn't expect a reply or a patch for a while. I'll keep everyone posted.
Unfortunately, I think the only way to go back to the previous drivers would involve re-installing the system from the disks that came with the machine, then doing every update save the last one. Sounds like a pain. I'll probably just wait for a Blizzard patch and get some more work done in the meantime, now that WoW is out of the picture!
Are you going to send a bug report to Blizzard. They'll probably jump on it more quickly if a few of us step up. . .
Gotta get that WoW fix. . .

  • Performance Regression: After update to FireFox 18 permanent high CPU load

After the last update FireFox started to continuously eat a whole CPU on my 2-core laptop. My usage pattern (regarding browsed sites and/or activated plugins) has not changed, but I must confess that I'm a heavy user of plugins.
I suspect the problem may arise from a changed performance behaviour of a plugin due to the new JS engine of FF18, but how can I easily trace this problem further down. I.e. is there a way to inspect the collected performance data of firefox (activated)?

I use FF always with many tabs opened, min 100, sometimes up to 300+. After Updating FF17 to FF18 I've recognized a much more higher CPU-usage.
This issue doesn't occur as long as there are just a few tabs opened, or it doesnt' be of any consequence at least. The CPU-load of FF18 gets higher with each opened tab. When you close the tabs, the CPU-usage also gets normal. There is nearly no Flash-content and just few JS working on the websites (thanks to NoScript and ABP).
    The System: i5-CPU, 16GB RAM, Win7 x64
    FF17.01: CPU-load 1.0% average at 300 tabs
    FF18.01: CPU-load 10.0% average at 300 tabs FF18.01: CPU-load 5.0% average at 150 tabs FF18.01: CPU-load 3.3% average at 100 tabs
A fresh install and disabling all addons (even in Safemode) didn't fix the problem. It seems, that FF is permanetly doing something with the tabs to being able to speedup on user-action. It's all good, as long as there are just a few tabs opened, but it's getting worse with each further opened tab.

  • Serious performance problems after updating from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7

I've got a Macbook Pro C2D 15" (late 2006). After updating the system from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 and quicktime to 7.6.2, I experience serious performance problems which I have never seen before:
-From time to time, kernel_task has peaks in activity monitor (consumes a lot of CPU). In that moment, the mouse hangs for a short moment and audio playback is distorted/has drop outs.
-Recording audio consumes a lot of CPU (independent of the audio application).
-Video playback consumes a lot of CPU, regardless if I use VLC or the quicktime player.
Any idea what could be done? Thanks in advance.

After a few days of using CoolBook I report that my 1st generation MacBook Air is now reliable and never overheating, regardless of environment conditions.
I must point out that I do believe that it really is something new in 10.5.7 that is causing this problem as my environmental conditions have not changed and even Summer in Dublin still sees temperatures no more than 72F/22C. I am now in Madrid, where the environment is quite different, and I am still having no problem with kernel_task spinning.
I plan on reporting my problem to Apple anyway and being aggressive about the issue as MacLovinRanga did in this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9647353#9647353). Perhaps many/all of those of us having this problem will obtain new MacBook Airs.

  • Performance problems after Update from 7.6.00.37 to 7.6.03.15

    Hi,
after the Update from 7.6.00.37 to 7.6.03.15 in our live system we noticed a lot of performance problems. We have tested the new version before on our test system, but there don't noticed effects like this.
We have 2 identical systems (Opteron 64 bit, openSuse 10.2) with log shipping between them. We updated first the standby system, switched from online to standby (with copy of cold log) and started the new server as online system. After that we run a complete backup (runtime: 1 hour) for starting a new backup history and for activating autolog. Then
With the update we changed USE_OPEN_DIRECT to YES, but the performance of the system was very slow afterwards. After the backup it remains at a high load average (> 10, previous system had about 2-4), with nearly 100% of CPU usage for the db kernel process.
Next day we switched USE_OPEN_DIRECT back to NO. The system first runs better, but periodically rises up to a load average of 6 and slow down the performance of various applications (somebody says about 10 times slower). Here we also noticed a high usage (now 200-300%) of the db kernel process.
    Our questions are:
    1. Has something basically changed from 7.6.00.37 to 7.6.03.15, so that our various applications (JDBC, ODBC and Perl/SQLDBC partially on old linux systems with drivers from 7.5.00.23) don't reach same performance as before?
    2. Are there any other (new) parameters, which can help? Maybe reducing MAXCPU from 4 to 3 for reserving capacities for the system (there is only one maxdb instance running)?
    3. Is the a possibility to switch back to 7.6.00.37 (only for worst case)?
I have made some first steps with x_cons, but don't see any anomalies on the first look.
    Regards,
    Thomas

Hmm... that is really odd. When using USE_OPEN_DIRECT there is actually less work to do for he operating system.

Well of course there are bugs that have been found inbetween the release of both versions, but I am not aware of something like the performance killer.
We will have to check this in detail here.

Well - then I guess 'looking at the system' won't bring you far...

Great - let's see the warnings you get.
Let us also see the DB Parameters you set.

With the old version we had no problems with missing indexes or the general performance. Unfortunatly it is very difficult to extract some sql statements out of the JBoss applications. But even simple queries (without any join) runs slower, when the load average rises over 4-5.
Hmm... the question here is still, if the execution plans are good enough to meet your expectations.
E.g. for tables that you access via the primary key it actually doesn't matter how many rows a table has (not for MaxDB at least).
    > > BTW: how exactly do the tests look like that you've done on the testsystem?
    > Usage over 6 weeks with our JDBC development environment (JBoss), backup and restore with various combinations of USE_OPEN_DIRECT and USE_OPEN_DIRECT_FOR_BACKUP.
Sounds like the I/O is your most suspect aspect for overall system performance...

    > Only while permanent development with the 2-3 developers and some parallel tests of backup/restore. Unfortunately no tests with many users/applications.
Ok - so this is next to no testing at all when it comes to performance.
    > An UPDATE STATISTICS over all db users seems to change nothing. At the moment the system remains markedly slow and we are searching for reasons and solutions. Another attempt will be the change of MAXCPU from 4 to 3.
Why do you want to do that? Have you observed any threads that don't get a CPU because all 4 cores are used by the MaxDB kernel?

  • Performance decreased after updating the PFI? wtf?

I just updated the PFI to the version released on 10.11.10 from the one that came with the original installation.  I didn't change anything in my project, just recompiled it using the new PFI.  And when I uploaded to my IPhone the performance appeared to be worse than before.  Some of the animations were ok smooth before (12fps) and are now very jaggy (about 5fps i would guess).  Also when I ctrl-enter on the computer, the screen is in portrait mode even though I set it to landscape and the size of the stage is 480w*320h.  Can someone please explain to me what is going on?  Thank you

I have followed the same tips earlier (After upgrade) but there is no result, especially i have noticed that only during night hours it looses charging, last list night after hard reset i have kept the charging of 100%  arround at 11:00pm  and again i have checked on next day morning arround at 6:00am  it shows  25% only.
In just earlier release 7.0.3 i dont face these kind of problem. Once i  did complete charging  easily i can use the phone 2 days. i am waiting for next release may be that resolves my issue.

  • What should I do; My Macbook Pro Retina 13" performing worse after a visit to the Genius Bar.

To give a little background; my MacBook is my baby. I keep it as safe and clean as I possibly can. The only damage that has come to it is a tiny dent in the left corner of the screen, when my little sister took it, ran, and dropped it on a wooden floor. It's my pride and joy, and I would never mistreat my computer. I don't loan it to friends, I always know where it is, and I do my best to keep it from dying. The only thing I do which is problematic is not shutting it down often enough; I usually keep it on for days at a time, I don't sleep much and spend a lot of time on my computer, but for such a high price, I was expecting that it could handle it. Onto the problem.
My computer was having minor problems with the trackpad and keyboard and had been since I'd bought it, but I hadn't been noticing it much until recently. I remember my mom pointed it out when I first got it and I told her she was crazy. I suspected a little hardware problem that my AppleCare would cover. When I went in to the Genius Bar, they opened up my computer and told me I had serious water damage. I was shocked as I'd never brought my computer close to water; I don't bring it in the bathroom, so no condensation, I have never spilled on it, I don't usually eat or drink around it, etc. I was given very minimal detail or explanation, simply told over and over that it was water damage, and they told me my AppleCare had been deactivated, which made me even MORE upset. The store told me it would cost almost $1000 to fix, at which point I was about to cry since that's almost the cost of my computer. I was going to wait until I got home to get an opinion from my hometown Apple Store, as they've known me for a long time and I was upset with the unhelpful service at the Genius Bar around my college.
My current problem is that I don't think I can wait until May. My computer has been acting up ever since the Genius Bar visit earlier this month, my screen is shaking and the color is going in and out, sound is acting strangely, and I'm really, really upset since none of these problems existed before my visit. I didn't feel it was a problem until recently, since it was pretty scattered and I felt like if I ignored it until I got home in mid-May, I could get it fixed then. Now, I feel as though something was jostled or screwed with while they were checking my computer and it's causing me a lot of problems, problems that are interfering with my use of this otherwise awesome device. I really love my MacBook, it's the best computer I've had, but I am at my wits end.
AppleCare is insurance, and I don't understand how they could take it away for something that I have no control over. When I bought AppleCare, I was told it would cover any damage that happened to the hardware or software of my computer, which is the whole reason I bought it! I wouldn't have wasted money on it if I knew this was a way to take the responsibility of fixing my computer away from Apple! I am beyond angry with the service I received, the "rules" of AppleCare, and the performance of my computer after the visit. I can barely type this since my screen refuses to stay still or one color! I was having absolutely no screen problems before this visit!!!
This is my last resort; I may return to the Genius Bar sometime next week for a reassessment. I am extremely upset with the service I have received and the new problems arising. This computer is barely seven/eight months old. It should NOT be having these problems. I can't help but think it was a manufacturing error and I was given an incorrect diagnosis. As a final, desperate cry for help, I thought I'd turn to the support forum for advice; is there anything you guys think I should be doing or any way I can possibly fix this problem myself/without Apple since apparently I have no insurance even though I paid $250 for problems like this to be covered?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Hold the Power button until your Mac turns off, and turn it on again. As you tried to install a firmware update, plug the MacBook to its charger before turning it on.
Note that firmware updates are installed in the next startup, so don't worry about this, as the update hasn't been installed yet.
Respecting to other freezes, it may indicate a hardware problem. Check if the same freezes happen in the future

  • IPhone 5s Performance Problem after updating to 7.1.1

    Hi everyone,
I was using ios 7 which come originally when you but iPhone 5s , it was great , fast and adorable .
yesterday I updated my iPhone 5s to ios 7.1.1
unfortunately I have faced some problems , the iphone 5s is now slower , the apps open slower than the ios 7,
I have iphone 5 which has ios 7.0.4 and it's much faster and smoother than the iphone 5s which has ios 7.1.1 ,
I was really disappointed about that ,
what do you think the problem is ?
    Regards

thanks for your help fred and aszter
my wife's iphone 5s is having the same problem as mine.
I also compared them to my daughters ipad mini that runs 7.0.4 (A5 chip). and that thing runs properly.
FASTER than both our iphone 5s!!!!
    wait it gets worse.
I dug up my old 4s installed 7.1.1 . Guess what?
it opens apps with the same speed as my 5s (as slow)
it seems that apple has on purpose implemented an artificial lag on all devices so that the new iphone will appear snappier than the older ones.
not sure about you guys but this is definitely not making me want to go out and stand in line for their new kit and to think that I was actually looking forward to buy an iphone with a bigger screen. not so much any more..
As you can tell I own a lot of apple products. maybe I will come around - it's not like samsung is god's gift to humanity. But This is definitely making question apple. Maybe HTC deserves a chance by me.
I also have a developer id so I am downloading the correct 7.1 ipsw as well and I will try again right now to put it on. first attempt didn't work out, I just upgraded itunes as well to see if that helps, I am putting it on recovery mode.
Just for the record, closing wifi, seems to randomly improve performance in some cases but not all the times..
    biggest problem is in photos.

  • IPhone 3G performance degrades after update to iOS4

Another log on the fire - for the first time since I bought my iPhone 3G I am unhappy with it. Not only did the update to iOS4 significantly degrade the performance/responsiveness of my iPhone, but I also have no backup to revert back to. The update process within iTunes performed a backup of my phone before the iOS4 update, and after the update was completed (4-6 hours later) the backup of 3.1.3 was gone.

I have to agree with pego19.
I UNFORTUNATE was foolish enough to install iOS 4 on my iPhone 3G. Now I feel it is totally unusable due to slowness and crashing. I've actually had mail and SMS apps crash on me, as well as the whole phone to freeze forcing me to reset it. Something I cannot recall ever doing in the the 20 months of owning it.
I am desperately trying to search ways to return to iOS 3, or preferrably iOS 2 (that it came with), as that was FAST. If that is not possible, I will have just forget about the iPhone and look for an alternative. I'm definately not going to buy a new iPhone, as this is more likely to happen again with it.
What I don't undestand why I cannot just put the original iOS back to the phone that it came out with. Just as I can always restore any Mac to the original condition that it came in?
And yes, my iPhone has never been jailbroken. It has always been unlocked by Apple since new (bought it while living in Brussels), so I have never needed to bother tinkering with it.

  • Go RED again after PUBLISHED...getting WORSE after updated!!!

    Hi,
Recently i've just updated the iWeb software, but getting worse while working on iWeb now. Sad and Too Bad to me...
Yesterday when i open my iWeb...every Pages from Blue turn to RED and after re-published..still RED.
Not only that problem, i thought some of my pages caused the problem..so i try to create a new SITE and drag all my pages into the New Site and try to Drag and Drop back the Pages 1 by 1 and updating/publishing to check the that where's the problem from...
    But,
I can't even Drag my BLOG page now...however i delete the .plist from the preferences or from the ByHost...FAILED me again!!!!
I'm so disapointed to this so call "updated software" !!!!
What s'ld i do now? Help Help..need help!!!
I'm actually ready to publish my updated Website...
I feel sad that nowaday apple doesn't take care of customer and the Quality anymore..worse and worse from Hardware to software...Too Bad!!!!! sorry for my frustrated words...

Don't feel bad. I have weather widgets and countdown code imbedded in my site via text edit and idisk. So not only does it take forever to upload when I make a change but I have to go back into all the pages with the weather widgets and countdown clocks via text edit and add the code again. Iweb Version 1.1.2. Worked for years and then all of a sudden this. It's not a software problem, but a problem on Apples end communicating back to your computer that the pages have been successfully uploaded and should stay blue leaving only pages with changes to be uploaded next time unless you say different. It has been 6 weeks since Apple told me of this problem and still no solution. I can only wonder how much more trouble is coming when .mac is officially gone. I don't have publish to mobile me in my version 1.1.2 pull down menus, only publish to .mac. I hope a free software update will add these things to my version and take care of this, but I'm not holding my breath. Will they say I need to buy a new version of Iweb. It worked great till they screwed something up on their end. I don't want anythiing more than version 1.1.2 It worked great! It seems to have started when mobile me started running. The two systems maybe are conflicting with each other. Figure it out soon Apple or .mac/mobileme will be something to dump and move to something that works.

Hey.. It seems like your phone was not properly upgraded. Here follow these steps:
    1. Back up all your data.
    2. Format your HDD
    3. Now update your phone again using the latest updater (V1.1.30)
    4. Now before you put back your data install the sms accelerator from http://www.europe.nokia.com/A4158100
    5. Now put back all your data.
    It should work fine now.
MAYBE U WANNA TRY INSTALLING THE SMS ACCELERATOR FIRST AND SEE IF IT SOLVES YOUR PROBLEM.

  • Lightroom performance issues after updating to new iMac

I was using a late 2013 iMac with 3.5 Ghz i7 and 3 TB Fusion Drive and 32 GB of RAM, and had very good performance.
I recently upgraded to a retina iMac with 4.0 Ghz i7 and 512 GB SSD and 32 GB of RAM. I also bought a LaCie Big 1 TB external drive that has 1,300 MB/s read/write speeds, and put my Lightroom library, photos, and ACR cache on that drive.
Given these changes, I would have expected an increase in performance from my previous system. However, I'm seeing the opposite. In Lightroom when I apply a preset, I sometimes get a spinning beach ball for a couple of seconds before it applies. In Photoshop, using Google Nik filters, I when I move the sliders the effect isn't instantaneous as it used to be; instead, I see large chunks of the screen redrawing.
All other applications on my system seem to be running very well. Photoshop and LR both open faster than they did on my previous iMac. But using them seems slower, which perplexes me.
    Any ideas?

Ah, I wondered if it might have something to do with the retina display. I tried what you suggested and made the LR window about 1/4 size of the display. I was then able to apply presets instantaneously, with no lag at all (much faster than my previous system). I also opened some images in Photoshop and the Nik filters, and reduced the window size. The Nik filters are still a bit more "laggy" than I would expect, but overall there was an improvement.
Is Adobe planning on updating the max preview size given these new displays?
I wish I would have considered this prior to purchase. Probably wouldn't have stopped me, because the retina display is so stunning, but the lag is really annoying.

  • Is anyone else's computer performing worse after upgrading to Mavericks?

My laptop's battery life has decreased by at least a fourth and my computer now takes forever to load anything whether it's just loading a webpage or trying to open a program such as Pages or iTunes.  Everything is just so much slower.  My laptop also starts heating up faster and is loader than it has ever been after making the switch.  OSX Lion was much better in my opinion.  I have tried reparing permissions in disk utililty and that made my laptop perform better for about 30 minutes and then it went back to running like crap.
Please if anyone else has had this problem and has fixed it, please let me know a solution, I've been using a Dell now because my MacBook Pro isn't performing well enough.
    Thanks!

Check Activity Monitor and sort by %CPU to see if any processes are hogging memory.
If mds and mdshelper are hard at work, that's Spotlight indexing, and after a few hours things should speed-up.
    Also try Safari->Reset Safari
