Hi to all...
please somebody help me to how we make performance tuning in Pl/sql.
i read many documents in google but didnt get the proper idea.Last week when i attend one interview there also ask about how you do the performance tuning in codes?
Please give the idea about the tuning and how we do it in our codes?

PL/SQL itself integrates the SQL language with the PL (Ada based) programming language.
So there are 3 areas that one needs to look at performance.
SQL. As the SQL language is used, you need to make sure that your SQL is designed and written optimally, that the database structures are logical (properly modelled) and correctly implemented (using features like index organised tables, indexes, partition tables, table clusters, etc). One of the important things here is that SQL cannot be fast and scalable when the underlying data model is poorly designed. SQL can only be as good and as fast as the data model allows. Thus SQL performance goes hand-in-hand with how well the data model is designed.
PL/SQL. The PL/SQL language is a formal declarative procedural language with object orientation features. It has much in common with languages like C/C++, Pascal/Object Pascal and so on. Thus the same basic rules for designing and writing optimal code in these languages, also applies to PL/SQL. Fundamentals like modularisation, code instrumentation and so on. My rules for writing in such a language is to be able to explain WHAT each and every line of code does (in detail), and explain WHY you have written that line of code.
The last performance area is the integration of the SQL language with the PL/SQL language. When you write SQL code inside PL/SQL, it means that the PL/SQL engine must make a call to the SQL engine. It needs to bind PL/SQL variables to the SQL. It needs to interact with SQL cursor created. It needs to fetch data from the cursor. Etc.
This interaction requires context switching from the PL/SQL engine to the SQL engine. Context switching happens in most/all languages to some extent. Some at quite a technical level (like switching between CPU rings), some at a higher s/w level like between the PL/SQL and SQL engines. Context switching is often a necessary, but expensive and slow, overhead. Within PL/SQL you need to make minimal context switching between the PL/SQL and SQL engines.
For example, do not use SQL function to assign a value to a PL/SQL variable when the function can be called natively from PL/SQL itself. Use bulk collection and bulk processing to reduce context switching when dealing with SQL cursors.
The most common problem with performance in the above 3 areas is incorrectly using the PL/SQL and SQL languages. Using PL/SQL to filter rows from a table, or perform a nested loop join between two cursors, when SQL can do that far better and faster. Using SQL to assign sysdate to a PL/SQL variable, when PL/SQL is perfectly capable of doing it.

  • Profitability analysis activated in POS Interface, performane/tuning issue?

    We are about to golive with a SAP retail system. All purchases made by customers in store are sent into SAP via and idoc via the so called POS (point of sales) Interface.
    A reciept received via an idoc creates material docs, invoice docs, accounting documents, controlling documents, profit center docs and profit ability analysis documents.
    Each day we recive all receipt from each store collected in one idoc per store.
    When deactivate our profit ability analysis an average store are posted in about 40 seconds with sales from an average day. When we post and profit ability analysis are activated the average time per store are almost 75 seconds.
    How can simple postings to profit ability analysis increase the posting time with almost 50 %? Is this a performance/tuning issue?

  • External Facing Portal --poor performane , for tuning-what to check

    Dear Gurus
    we are using EP7.0,(Backend systems SRM, DI)( oracle 10.2.0.2, AIX 5.3) it is working fine locally, but When it is accessed through internet and when the users are more(300+). the performance decreasing drastically,we have RAM of 16GB in portal production system, is there any thing need to be tuned when accessing throgh internet, i gone though the notes "external facing of portal", still i have problems, i did db statistics update with brconnect.
    we are using APache as reverse proxy latest version.

    hello all
    my one of query is returning result in 1-2 mins only for 1 lakh record but i am not sure if it showed me complete rows or not because when I an trying to get count of result ..its taking lot of time .when I am using this query on plsql code ..code is running slow so just wanted to confirm on query tuning point of view if its fine or not ..please look onto it and let me know if query is fine or not by explain plan .my oracle version is 11g

    Hi,
    the plan you posted has the cost of 2300, i.e. 2300 single-block reads or equivalent number f multi-block reads. Even if none of the blocks is found in cache, 2300 reas shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes, beacause for most of the hard drives available today a disk read is typically within 5-10 ms.
    This means that if there is a problem, we will never find out about it by looking in the plan. And it's quite likely that there is, in fact, a problem, because the plan contains a bunch of nested joins, and the cost of each nested join is directly proportional to the cardinality of the previous nested loop. I.e. it suffices to make one bad mistake in estimating the number of rows coming fom one of the nested rows to screw up the entire plan and get all remaining estimates (including the total cost of the query) completely wrong.
    In order for us to be able to tell more, we need to see the plan with rowsource statistics, and please don't forget to use tags to preserve formatting (use the preview tab to make sure the posted plan is actually readable).

    This post is not a question, but similar to Rob van Wijk's "When your query takes too long ..." post should help to improve the quality of the requests for SQL statement tuning here on OTN.
    On the OTN forum very often tuning requests about single SQL statements are posted, but the information provided is rather limited, and therefore it's not that simple to provide a meaningful advice. Instead of writing the same requests for additional information over and over again I thought I put together a post that describes how a "useful" post for such a request should look like and what information it should cover.
    I've also prepared very detailed step-by-step instructions how to obtain that information on my blog, which can be used to easily gather the required information.   • Please help! Major problems (performan​ce and lock-ups) with brand new W520 with Intel 520 SSD

    My company primarily uses HP machines but I've been a long time IBM (now Lenovo) fan so I recently had IT purchase me a new Lenovo W520 (product ID 42763LU).
    Once the machine arrived I had them do the following:
    Remove the 500GB HDD and replace it with an Intel 520 series 240GB SSD
    Remove the optical drive and install the 500GB hard drive that came with the machine in the optical bay (with the bay adapter of course)
    Format both drives and put a preconfigured windows 7 64-bit image on the SSD
    A general summary of the system is the following:
    Intel i7-2860QM CPU
    8GB RAM
    NVIDIA Quadro 1000M
    Intel 520 240GB SSD (primary HDD) [SSDSC2CW240A3]
    Hitachi 500GB HDD (optical bay) [HTS727550A9E365]
    Intel Advanced-N 6205 network adapter
    TouchChip Fingerprint Scanner
    The machine was a few days delayed getting to me due to "hard drive driver issues" (that's what I was told). When I received the machine I immediately noticed that it was much slower than I expected (I have a custom built i5 HTPC at home running windows 7 on a Crucial SATA III SSD that I was comparing it to) and I was experiencing frequent hangs (ranging from 30 seconds to multiple minutes), super long boot times, general “slowness” at times, and occasional lock-ups. Since our "baseline" laptop here at work is the "equivalent" HP workstation my IT guys have been less than helpful in helping me to solve this issue. Being reasonably computer savvy I decided to try to try to fix the issue myself. I performed the following “troubleshooting” steps:
    1. One of the first issues (errors) I noticed in the event viewer was errors related to the optical drive. Clearly the image they installed on the machine was not from a machine with the same hardware configuration. So, I decided to just wipe the machine and perform a fresh install of windows 7 from the disks (well, USB). After spending multiple days installing windows, performing updates, making sure all the drivers were current, and installing only the critical software I need, I was disappointed to realize that although I fixed the optical drive errors the machine was still slow, was hanging, and locking up regularly.
    2. Removed the cover on the machine and removed/reinstalled the drive to verify it was secure.Everything looked good.
    3. Verified the latest firmware is installed on all my Intel hardware. Everything seemed up to date.
    4. I performed a number of troubleshooting steps like booting the machine with/without the battery, with/without the HDD in the optical bay, installed/removed from the docking station, etc. and none of these things helped (also a note – occasionally when running on the battery I was hearing a strange “buzz” or “static” sound coming from the area around the SSD).
    5. Next I did some internet research and learned quite a few things. First, it sounds like others have had similar problems with this machine and/or SSD combo and there were quite a few options suggested to “fix” these issues. The general consensus for troubleshooting steps were:
    5.1. Download and install the latest Intel chipset drivers and AHCI controller drivers (overwriting whatever windows installs during updates).This didn’t fix anything.
    5.2. Turn off PCI express link state power management in the power manager. This didn’t fix anything.
    5.3. Disable superfetch, prefetch, indexing, defragmentation, page file, system restore, and hibernate. A few of these were already disabled by windows so in those cases I just verified they were disabled in the services and application editor. These things may have slightly increased performance but did not fix the major hang/lockup issues I was having.
    5.4. I followed online steps to edit the registry to disable the PCI link power management by adding ports, adding the required variables, and setting them all to 0. This did seem to have fixed the hangs and/or lock-ups but the machine is still much slower than I would expect (boot times are still pretty slow and it does “stutter” when I’m doing more than one thing at a time. Also a note here – I have the Intel SSD toolbox installed and I noticed that it was giving me a warning for DIPM not being optimized. I made the mistake of clicking “Tune!” and then started having the hang/lock-up issues again. I went back into the registry and sure enough the PCI link power management variables for ports 0 and 1 were set back to 1. I set them back to 0 and the hangs have gone away. I will not be “tuning” the DIPM through the Intel SSD toolbox again…
    6. I also fixed a couple of other minor errors I was seeing in the event viewer by disabling benign services and/or making slight timeout modifications (I researched each issue on the internet to verify they were benign before I implemented any changes). These fixes didn't seem to do anything other than make some of the errors/warnings go away. So, the list of errors/warnings has become much smaller but I’m still getting the following (maybe an issue, maybe not?):
    Event ID 37 for every processor saying that they are in a reduced performance state for xx seconds since the last report
    Event ID 10002 - WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped
    Event ID 4001 - WLAN AutoConfig service has successfully stopped
    Event ID 27 – Intel® 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection link is disconnected
    I suspect the WLAN errors have something to do with windows fighting with the Lenovo access connection tools?
    7. Since the machine still seemed slow I downloaded the program AS SSD and checked the performance of the SSD. When I compared my performance numbers to the benchmark numbers I found onlineI was very surprised to discover that I’m getting about 50% of the performance that I should (values below are read/write).

    4K: 15.83 / 44.92 (s/b 21.70 / 62.60) [MB/s]
    4K-64Thrd: 165.23 / 154.46 (s/b 241.38 / 234.08) [MB/s]
    Acc.time: 0.218 / 0.294 (s/b .0186 / 0.208) [ms]
    Score: 207 / 208 (s/b 314 / 327)
    Overall Score: 533 (s/b 797)
    One more note - it seems like my cooling fan is running at a high speed almost all of the time. This is probably one of my power settings (I think I have it set for max performance) but it's even doing this when there is no load (i.e. I'm using IE and just vieweing webpages - like right now).
    So, I apologize for such a long post but I’ve spent countless hours researching and troubleshooting this problem and haven’t been able to figure out what the heck is wrong here. Am I missing something simple or do you guys think I have a SSD and/or problem with the machine itself? To say that any and all help would be greatly appreciated would be a massive understatement – I’m on the verge of pulling my hair out and I really need this machine working as quickly as possible!

    Lol gotcha about the drive as an option. I didn't go SSD with mine. Do you have the latest firmware on your drive? It is supposed to be v1.97. Just checking (ah and I see item 3 so guess so). Do you have the SSD drive toolbox software installed?

    Seems some useful tools are in there. I can't say much beyond that with the drive. Oh. Why does your fan always run at high speed? Can you describe that?  I mean, are we troubleshooting the right kind of issue? Is there anything else going on with your system? I saw about the reduced core speeds message. what are your system loads like? Anything causing high cpu utilization? Could be something other than the drive causing your low numbers and lockups.

  • Real Instruments, Enhance Tuning, Enhance Timing, Etc?

    Hi,
    I am having trouble getting to the Real Instruments, Enhance Tuning, Enhance Timing, area of GB3.
    I see the window partially, but not enough to move the sliders, while seeing there placement..
    I'm sure there's something I'm unaware of to get the full view, and I've snapped a screen shot to show what I'm talking about, if anyone is interested..

    After you select the Real Instrument track you'd like to correct the pitch or timing of, you hit the "I" for track information, then you can click on the region arrow,(?) and the Enhancing area opens up properly.
    Check out the picture linked above, and below I will place the before shot link..
    The preference not coming up seems to be linked to using iChat, believe it or not..
    I read it here in the forum.
    If you open iChat, and then Garageband 3, your preference pane may not open up, until you reboot your computer.
    Strange but true..

    The first step is to see if the problem lies in the query on the data source or in webi itself. Depending on the data source there are different ways to extract the query and try to run it against the database. Which source does your report uses?
    (2). Can you tell me about performance tuning in BO ?
    I would recommend to start by reading the administrator's guide. There is a section about how to improve performance.

    But what is it you hope to accomplish by breaking it up into smaller views?
    Improvements in ease of maintenance will likely be offset by poorer performance.

  • Enhance Tuning to a Key for a Single Track

    I am looking to enhance the tuning for a single track but when I go to enhance one track it enhances the tuning for all the tracks. Does anyone know of a way to just enhance the tuning for a single track? Or maybe a way to just export one track out of several?

    Well I'm just calling it what Garageband is calling it. At the top it says "Garageband, File, Edit, and then Track. Where you can add, delete, and duplicate a track. When you select "Create New Track" you then can choose from Software Instrument, Real Instrument, or Electric Guitar. I think you are thinking of a Track as a Project. When you first start Garageband the top one says _*New Project*_ and the bottom one says _*Recent Projects*_.
    And I know you can move it to a New Project. I was muting all the other Tracks in a project except for the one that I wanted in a certain key and then I exported it to iTunes and then stuck it right back in as a song. So I know how to do it that way but I was wondering if there was an easier way where I didn't need to export and import tracks all the time.

  • Need help on tuning materialized view refresh

    Hi All,
    I am working on materialized view refresh tuning.Initially it was complete refresh and used to take more than 90 mins to complete.
    I changed it to fast refresh now it is completing fast. Now i have partitioned the base tables gl_balances and gl_code_combinations of column code_combination_id and created a local index on column code_combination_id then i am trying to partition the materialized on the same column to take advantage of partition change tracking.
    Size of gl_balances base tables is 40Gb and all others tables sizes are small. In where clause there all the 4 tables are mapped. If i will create the partition only on code_combination_id will i the materialized will become the candidate for partition change tracking. As i know it will be applicable for PCT. I need expert advice on this.
    While doing a fast refresh. the refresh takes less time. when there is a change in gl_balances , gl_code_combinations or gl_periods it completes in 20-30 mins. When there is a change in gl_set_of_books tables. It creates a problem here.DEL query takes more than 48 hours to complete.

    Is there any way to improve the plan. As i created a partition on code_combination_id and local index on code_combination_id which will not help in set_of_books_id case. I dont PCT will help here or not. Is it possible to use PCT refresh by equipartitioning only one column in where clause.
