Performing any adjustments in Aperture corrupts image/viewer..HELP

I did an update on my mac today and Aperture was one of the programs receiving an update. This update brought me to 2.1.2.
Since the update I'm unable to perform any kind of "adjustments" on my photos. Moving any slider or making ANY change causes the image to go strait to black, or the image "breaks" and just turns into garbled noise. A quick "undo" with bring the photo back, but of course I lose any changes I just made.
Please, can someone help? I haven't had this problem at all until I did the update earlier. Very weird.
Here's my specs...
MacBook Pro
Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz
4GB Memory
GeForce 8600M GT

try trashing the preferences, could be that in the update process something has corrupted.

I am trying to download Firefox 3.6 to use on my Mac OS X version 10.3.9. Three attempts and I continue to get "mounting failed" and "corrupt image". Help please?

Firefox 3.6 requires at least OS X 10.4, the last version of Firefox that worked on OS X 10.3.9 was Firefox 2.0.0.20 which is available from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/mac/

  • Aperture corrupting images during editing

    Hello,
Starting a few days ago, aperture started corrupting images during editing.  This was normally at the time of my fist cut, going through doing simple straighten and croping.  Sometimes it would happen when doing a small lighten or darken of the exposure.  I purchased a new MacBook Pro about a month ago but this only started happening this week.  No OS or Aperture upgrades this week.  I did have a crash earlier this week and after the crash my Spotlight re-indexed my computer.  I updated QuickSilver this week and Awaken.  I tried quiting both QS and Awaken but problem still happens.  The real scary thing is I usally have to go back and re-import the raw CR2 image to fix the problem, doing an update from master or resetting all adjustments does not fix the problem.  Below is an example of an image with the problem.  This is a Version Export of a corrupted image, as you can see the cor  Can I get any help?

    Ernie Stamper:
The Aperture Libraries are on the local drive.  I do have an external Firewire drive I can use to test your theory but since I recently replaced the whole laptop at the Apple store so I am thinking it is not hardware related but one of three things: an Aperture bug, my configuration, or memory (see more on memory below).
    leonieDF:
I don't think it is related to a hardware issue unless it is memory. I took the laptop into the mac store because I was having a hardware issue not discussed in this thread.  The laptop was completely replaced except for the memory since I purchased 8GB of memory after the computer was purchased.  I put the 8GB memory back into the new laptop.  If this is a memory problem it is not showing up in diagnostics.  I am planning on doing two things this weekend.  First thing is putting back in the original apply memory and testing.  If I still get the issue I am going to do a complete uninstall of Aperture and re-install maybe something in my settings/libaries are corrupted.  I am reaching for straws at this point.  I might also try a complete reformat and only install Aperture and test to see if something else installed might be causing this, but I can't think of what it would be.

  • Any new fixes for corrupt images in Lightroom 4.4?

I have seen many threads on this and tried a lot of the tings people say to try. But I do get corrupt images in Lightroom. I currently have an AMD FX-8150, 32GB ram, 2 SSD Raid0 + USB3.0 drives as backup.
    Drive and Memory:
Note, I only keep up to the last 3 shoots on my SSD, the rest are stored on my USB3 drives. Any time I import files to the USB drive I get no corruption. Now that would imply that I have bad drives, I have run diskcheck and contacted Muskin and they had me run some disk checks, speed tests, +other things and identified that the drives are running fine with no issues and this has to be a software issue.
I have run memtest86+ with no errors, also ran memtest86+ with my memory in another machine with no errors.
To rule out the card reader:
When I just copy files from my CF Card to a folder using explorer all images import fine and you can even open every image in photoshop with no issues. As soon as you add those files already copied to the HD to lightroom, they start to corrupt. I just recently used the windows explorer method and added ~400 images to lightroom, all images imported fine, when I later accessed lightroom(Today), about 10% of those images are not corrupt.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Could it be because I use Raid0? Or even SSD drives?
This is quite annoying and I would like to get things fixed.

Usually when Lr renames the photos as you saw kianjillwedding-19, Lr changed the name from IMG_1968. Thats may have something to do with the corruption.
I don't see how. Renaming shouldn't change anything on disk except, well, the name - and of course update a bunch of things in the catalog.

I will get back to you if the problem continues but everything still seems to be fine in Lr5, even after letting Lr rename all the photos with my current(today's) import of 700 images.
    OK - thanks.

~impossible it's Lr4 software. Theoretically possible, but highly unlikely. As I said, Lr4 should never be rewriting those files, and therefore essentially can not corrupt them. I mean, its possible that it got it's brains scrambled, and went ahead and rewrote them, for god-knows why or just for the he|| of it - because some bits seemed to be set wrong..., thus invalidating the assumption that it's not rewriting them. It's just that this scenario is the least likely. I mean, Jeff Schewe has given me spankings more than once before, for even bringing it up, since it's so unlikely...

maybe Lr 4 was causing some sort of bug to make the hardware malfunction
Although theoretically possible, I'd still venture to guess that's not what happened.

Didn't you also change your disk drive situation around just before you started using Lr5?

  • Please help - image viewer help needed

    hi
    can anyone plase help
I am building a CSS site and want a simple image viewer -
just one image viewing in a box with >> and << buttons
for the user to scroll through images. I know that dreamweaver has
a built in Image viewer but it does not work properly. It will not
go back to the first image after it has gone forward to the next
images. Even the tutorial does this.
Does anyone know why this happens or can anyone direct me to
a good tutorial that will provide instructions for this?
I know that there are many add ons to deal with this but it
is only a small function that I should be able to produce myself.
    Many Thanks

If you're building a CSS site you might not want to use
    Flash. Try Googling
for "lightbox". If you have a development budget, you might
    also want to

  • Menu image viewer help

I purchased an accordion style image viewer for a client here
    http://activeden.net/item/flexible-xml-accordion-gallery/34133
this looks great but I did not realize that you can only link this file thru it's xml file which allows only external urls or swfs.
I need to link the images in the file to separate frames inside an .swf
I was able to copy the file into my main.swf but I still need to link each image to a frame.
The AS in the file is a ton of code, I need a solution, anybody?
    rrr

    Kylven,
I found your post because I have the same problem. I also saw
that notbody suggested a solution, so I'm going to use my second
    choice: Photoshop.
You have to know Photoshop a little, but here's the quick
    version:
    1. Put each image on its own layer.
    2. Create an animation with each layer showing for 5 seconds.
You'll have to add a tween for the transitions.
    3. Export the animation as a Flash file. (available since at
    least CS2).
I'm going to do that in the next few days, so if you want
more specifics, let me know, and I'll send you some details after
I've gone through it again myself. I know it works, though the
transitions can be a little choppy. You can see an example here:
    http://www.bayareainjury.com/
The changing images on the home page was created that way.

  • Aperture corrupts images (and masters?)

Aperture has begun to corrupt my images.
It used to happen very rarely, but has become more common recently.
I do not think it is related to the update to version 2. It used to happen with v.1.5 as well.
The corruption begins to show up as lines through images as I am sorting them, but gets really bad when I edit images with adjustments. I have not been able to identify any rhyme or reason as to why some images corrupt and some do not. Sometimes it is just in the interface how Aperture displays the image and will correct if I close that image and go back to it, but often the image is no longer useable in Aperture. Sometimes the image will export or open in an external editor OK, but more often it will not be usable any longer. Usually if I export the master and reimport it, the problem is solved. However, recently I exported a master and reimported it and it continued to look as bad. I then tried opening the exported master in Adobe Camera Raw and I could not... it opened a black canvas. (the photo was nothing but black).
here is a link to see the corruption I am talking about:
    http://gallery.mac.com/solhill#100002
the first image is the original file, as exported before all this started. The second is how it shows up now.
To add a layer of complexity, or perhaps clarity, I have also had some odd computer behavior such as system crashes due to kernel panics.
I have run extensive hardware tests from both the startup disk that came with my Mac Pro and third party tests as well and nothing has come up as a hardware issue, but an Apple certified technician I know thinks the kernel panics may be caused by bad ram. So far I have not been able to identify any bad ram though.
As is, I will have to abandon Aperture for Lightroom as I cannot trust it anymore. It ruined a photo job and not only made me miss the deadline, but corrupted a number of the key photos!
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Paul,
I copied a few of the logs from after crashes to email to an Apple certified technician I know. Here is the log from the last time it crashed... it is gibberish to me, but maybe you can make heads or tails of it:

  • Corrupted image files in Aperture 3.0.2

After upgrading to 3.0.2, I started working on some existing tiff files. Suddenly the image in the viewer was split into the top half from one image, and the bottom half from a different image in the same project! I tried to generate a new version from the master, and it would appear in the viewer, but when I try to make any adjustments to it, the new image was chopped in half as well, now just the top half, rather than the combination of two files. It seems to be related to the cropping tool somehow.
Basically the app is unusable at this point. Not good...

NOTE: 10.6.3 and 3.0.2 do NOT play well together. I had the same corruption issues. In addition, both benchmarking programs I use (Cinebench and XBench) recorded FAR SLOWER OPEN GL speeds when using 10.6.3. For example, the xBench rectangle rotation benchmark was 148 in 10.6.2 and 67(!!!) in 10.6.3.. Cinebench statistics showed a 35-40% reduction in performance. I would never had known this until I had Aperture problems, and on a hunch, thought I should check this out.
Submit feedback to Apple. I just rolled back to 10.6.2 and Aperture works MUCH BETTER. MUCH BETTER.......
I have come to the conclusion that this is the end of the Snow Leopard road for myself and my 3.5 year old machine. Apple is saying move on, as it is painfully clear that old machines will not support the new updates well. However it is odd to see newer machines with the same problems. Alas, it may just be Quality Control rather than Hardware Obsolescence.

  • Aperture applying unwanted adjustments when loading an image

    Hello,
I'm having a bit of an issue with Aperture and I'm wondering if the community can help me.
My camera is a Canon Eos 600D.
    I'm running Aperture 3.4.3 on a Mid 2010 iMac 27", with 8GB of Ram.
Just lately, when I import and load images into Aperture, it seems to be applying unwanted adjustments to the photos just after it completes loading them.
    Let me explain further:
I take pictures on the camera. Previewing them on the Canon they look as I would expect, and I'm happy with them.
I insert the SD card from the camera into the Mac, and Aperture previews/shows the thumbnails of my photos, and they look just like they did on the camera.
I import them into a given library.
When viewing the thumbnails of the imported images in the library, they look the same, so I double click one to load it fullscreen. The image appears fullscreen, looking exactly as it did on the camera, and Aperture pops the word 'Loading' at the top of the image.
Them when it finishes 'Loading', it seems to apply some unwanted adjustments to the photo. Mostly it applies a yellow wash to the image, and in some cases, it radically adjusts the levels.
    See examples below:
This was what the image looked like after it had loaded:
And this is what it should have looked like (I had to edit it BACK to what it had looked like on the camera).
I should note that once Aperture has seemingly applied these unwanted adjustments, there is no way to undo them - 'Revert to Original' does nothing as as far as Aperture is concerned, this is the original image.
Again, notice what happens when I quick preview an image:
But when I switch out of Quick Preview, these unwanted adjustments are applied:
Please, can anyone help out with this - it's driving me crazy.
Is there a way of seeing what Aperture might be doing/applying behind the scenes? I've checked Preferences but can't see anything obvious.
    Many thanks in advance.
    dradd

    Are you shooting raw?
Aperture is not doing any adjustments after import. Probably you have set your camera to do adjustments and you are using in-camera adjustment settings, like D-Lighting. These in-camera adjustments are reflected in the camera generated preview, that you are seeing when you are importing the image. After that, when you are opening the image, Aperture will create its own preview from the naked raw image. And that what you will see in the viewer. This preview shows exactly what your raw image is like, without any adjustments done by the camera. If you want the image processing results from the camera and not the original raw image as recorded by the camera from the sensor, import jpeg and not raw.
See this discussion: TA24505 Why do d600 raw's look totally different than the jpg's that are imported together. When I select a raw, it looks as if it gets adjusted, but I can't figure out why...

  • 1ds MK III images corrupt when viewed at 100%

Hi using Aperture 2.1 all my 1ds MK III images are corrupt when viewed at 100% even when viewed with the loupe but display fine when seen in preview mode and at reduced size and they export ok.
I have reinstalled aperture, 10.5.2 and the graphics update. Im using 2 X 2.8 Quad with 2600 xt card.
    Any ideas?

I am having the same trouble! All of my Canon 1Ds MarkIII raw file has the problem.
Tested on my Mac Pro 2.8 Radeon 2600, and iMac 24 Radeon card. Both have the same problem. When I hit zoom, I see exactly the same problem: http://gallery.mac.com/krux#100170
I have all the updates 10.5.2, aperture 2.0.1. Now I'm doesn't able to work with Aperture...
Please download my Canon 1Ds Mark III Raw file, and test it in Aperture 2:
http://www.handras.hu/stuff/0G7J6343CR2.zip (20.6 MB, 16 bit uncompressed Raw file)
If U have a Ati radeon card, and make straighten crop, or zoom, the picture should messed up
If U have nVidia, everything will be perfect.

  • Aperture 2 Image Preview Corruption?

I just installed Aperture 2 (upgrade) this weekend, and am noticing that eventually, after several minutes of use, image previews (main window, not thumbnails) will start becoming corrupted. The corruption looks like streaks or bands of altered color data. Once it begins, it will persist for most new images that are clicked on. If I quit Aperture, I've noticed the behavior continue with other images (i.e. my desktop background). A couple times, this has also been followed by a system crash.
I'm running on a Dual 2.0 GHz G5, 3.5 GB, OS 10.5.2. Vast majority of images are RAW from a Canon 20D. Prior to updating Aperture, my system was fairly stable - the only crashes I would typically see were sleep-related.
Anyone else see similar behavior? I should note that when I've relaunched Aperture, the image previews are no longer corrupted, so I don't think anything is wrong with my photos themselves...
    Thanks for any insight!
    -Mark

Well, I think I finally found the answer to my problem... bad RAM. My system has been rather flaky recently - apps crashing randomly, so I started to think there were other issues going on. After reinstalling the OS had no effect, I finally figured I'd test the RAM. Sure enough, one of my pairs of DIMMs was bad (go figure it had to be the big 2GB upgrade I added). After I took them out, my Aperture imports have worked normally. It hasn't been very long, so I can't comment on whether that solved the system stability problems, too, but it's a good bet it has...

  • Does Aperture "log" image adjustments in a way we can see?

Is there a way to pull up a list of the adjustments made to an image (along with date/time when they were made)?

Hi Jason. There is no "History" in Aperture.
I looked for this -- I moved from Lr3b and had found the History list useful (as well as Snapshots). Aperture (as I understand it) applies all of the adjustments to an image in the specific order which makes the most sense. In other words, it re-orders all your adjustments with each change. To see which adjustments are applied, you select the image and bring up the Adjustments tab of the Inspector. All of your adjustments show as bricks which are "checked" as active. You can remove any brick's adjustments by un-checking the checkbox.
The only way I know to see a list of adjustments is to bring up the adjustment lift & stamp HUD. This can provide information, but is not a great way to find it.
I had asked about history in Aperture on my last trip to the Apple store. I was told what I've shared above.
I used to think I needed the history list. As I've grown more comfortable with Aperture I've come to appreciate its approach, which seems more painterly and less technical. This has allowed me to focus more on the end result and less on the process. This feels discomfiting, but my results are fine. YMMV (and perhaps not appropriate -- I don't, of course, know why you are looking for a history list).

  • Attempting to upgrade to Firefox 3.6 (using an ancient Mac OS 10.3), but received an error message (corrupt image file) when downloading - any way to correct this with my current OS?

I'm currently trying to update a few programs on my good old (VERY old) Mac Powerbook, but I ran into an error when downloading Firefox version 3.6...I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.3.9, which isn't compatible with the most recent versions of Firefox (or anything, for that matter), but it should still allow an upgrade of version 3.6; however, once the file finished downloading, an error message popped up indicating there's a corrupt image file. Is there any way to work around/correct this problem, or am I stuck with my old version of Firefox until I bite the bullet and upgrade my OS??? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Firefox 3.6 requires at least OS X 10.4, the last version of Firefox that runs on OS X 10.3.9 is Firefox 2.0.0.20 available from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/mac/en-US/
