Periodic archiving

Hi,
I would like to archive ex FI_DOCUMNT archiving object perodically...will i be able to do in sara tcode or should i use SM36 to create a perodic job, in either case can any one help me with detailed steps to carry out...
Your support will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
1. as no two archiving runs can use the same varient.
  - Yes,  For every Archiving run you have to create new variant, if you are using same variant System will through you an error stating that that variant is already in use.
2. what happens with the delete job, if i set it start automatic, would it start with every perodic job.
  - if job starts automatically, records are deleted by 1st job and if you specify the same records in next job then if you see the 2nd job lob, you dont see any records in the spool for 2nd job.
3. if i schedule the perodic job from sm36, using the same write program of sara, will i be able to read the data in read program of SARA,
- No. if that job run by SM36 is already started then you dont get any records from read program..
can i delete it through SARA, and what happen if i start delete job automatically at end in AOBJ, will it work with sm36 write job, or should create a different job?
- it all depends on the customization you have done.
   if you customize deletion job immediatly after archiving with out interference, then that job triggers automatically after your archiving.
Hope you got some light on this.
Thanks,
Sree.

  • Using OS 10.4 Mail. IMAP mailboxes filling up on server. How to periodically archive on my Mac but delete from server?

    I'm using OS 10.4, Mail. Accessing IMAP accounts on mail server. The server mail boxes are filling up and bouncing mail. How can I archive the old mail on my computer and delete it from the server to make room for new mail? Will creating an archive mailbox "on my mac", copying old mail from my inbox to the archive mailbox, deleting the old mail from my inbox and then synchronizing with the server work? Will moving the old mail to the archive mailbox work? Thanks in advance for any insights.

    Great news, thanks!

  • Periodically archive content in UCM

    Hi All,
    I want the UCM repository to be searched for all the checked in document with a particular metadata field and those documents will be archived somewhere at regular intervals(say once a week).
    Please suggest a way to go about it in UCM.
    Thanks in advance.

    Customers have asked about this at various points. Depending on exactly the set up and the desired results this is an Enhancement Request.
    Archiver can do automated replication between 2 instances which is standard. So if you want to have content automatically replicated based on some set of metadata from server A to server B then this is out of the box, but if you want the Archiver applet to run an export to the file system only on a schedule (like weekly) then either manual or scripted IDCCommand calls to the Archiver applet would be needed.
    This kind of scheduled event can be scripted (shell script or other scripting language) to call a IDCcommand file to execute the Archiver commands when ever desired. It being scheduled in the UCM application is the E.R. that other customers have asked for in the past.
    The IDCcommand reference guide in the documentation library and the Services Reference guide should be enough information to get this kind of command file written then shell scripting (for your OS) could be researched via google to execute the command weekly.

  • Oracle 11g automatic archival // maintaining historic data

    Hi Group,
    We are planning to get Oracle 11g.
    I want to know if Oracle 11g has the capability to do automatic archival?
    My requirement is,
    few of the tables in our application will have lot of records (data) and after some days/ months it might slog the performance cos of the table/db size, and also the old data will not be of much interest (but data cannot be purged/deleted until some years). Hence want to archive the old data (trigger conditions specified by the user) and will be needed to bring data back programatically whenever the user queries for the data belonging to that particular period(archived data).
    Is there a feature available in Oracle to just specify the data to be archive and bring it back by giving a date/time input.

    Hi,
    First, this looks like a job for Oracle partitioning.
    What is your motive for archiving? Improved performance? Cheaper media?
    I want to know if Oracle 11g has the capability to do automatic archival? Sure, but you would have to script it yourself. Many shops do time-based rollover archiving with partitioned tables:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_partitioned_tablespace_archiving.htm
    it might slog the performance cos of the table/db sizeNo, not if you are properly indexed . . . However, table partitioning can speedup queries against large tables with "partition aware" SQL:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_partition_sql_index_ss_hint.htm
    want to archive the old data (trigger conditions specified by the user) I would not use triggers, schedule a job instead:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_archiving_data_in_file_structures.htm
    needed to bring data back Sorry, back from where? You are archving to disk, right?

  • Data archiving strategy

    Hi,
    Does anybody know of any good book/article about strategies to archive old data from an OLTP type Oracle database? If it has any hands-on examples it's even better. Since that's probably a common requirement, I hope there exists some material about this....
    Maybe it's better if I describe the requirements I have and the solutions I thought of. We have an 11gR2 database where the growth of data is approximately 30GB/month. The largest part of it is due to some log activity tables which store XML data in CLOB columns (not XMLTYPE). None of the tables are partitioned. We still have some time till the disks will be full, but I'd like to establish a process to periodically archive old data to tape. For now we don't need data mining functionalities (i.e. a data warehouse) since I'd only like to archive log tables for legal compliance.
    Roughly, I thought of something like the following:
    1) Since XMLs are only inserted once and never updated again, I thought to convert them to SECUREFILE LOBs and apply HIGH compression on them. Now they are defined as BASICFILE CLOBs.
    2) Turn log tables into range partitioned or interval partioned ones (partition by month). This should have been done before the application was put in production, but unfortunately it wasn't.
    3) At the end of the month exchange/truncate the partition
    4) Somehow export the old exchanged to tape (datapump export; transportable tablespaces if they are moved/created in its own tablespace; maybe using RMAN and READ-ONLY tablespaces?)
    Anyway I have some questions/doubts, like:
    1) How to archive data from multiple tables if data for a single entity is spread across many tables and some of them are partitioned and some are not. For example if there's a parent-child relationship and the child is partitioned but the parent is not.
    2) Which technique is advisable for exporting/archiving data out the database? As I wrote above it could be expdp, transportable TS, RMAN
    3) How to deal with table definitions changes in the OLTP database when an old partition has to be plugged again in the database?
    So if anyone knows any good paper about questions I wrote about, I'll appreciate it very much.
    Thanks in advance and regards,
    Jure

    Maybe this article can help; it uses XML for structural change flexiblity: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oramag/2006/06-jul/o46xml-097640.html

  • How to restore a backup copy of 'My Music", from an external backup system

    Is there a document somewhere on the procedure to recover iTunes when you used a 3rd party backup system?
    Issue: I am having difficulty restoring my iTunes library from a third party backup system that mirrors all the files on my computer onto a remote disk drive. First I restored the files onto a new computer, then I loaded iTunes
    for windows, and then used authorize option. iTunes does not show any of my files, and appears to have erased the files I restored. I am lost what to do next, I can restore the files again if need be, just want to read some instructions instead of guessing.
    Background: My desktop computer gave me error messages when I rebooted my computer just after upgrading from iTunes 7.0.18 to iTunes 7.0.2. I got an error message that the operating systems SMS hive file is corrupt (a security file). After some investigation a technical person in my company tol me that the file is gone, on both my mirrored disk drives. Would appear that this is a serious iTunes bug or a serious hardware problem. Not knowing which, and confident I have a good backup, I have placed that computer on the side, and took a spare PC and started configuring it to be my new home computer.
    I loaded all the Windows patches and installed, recovered all the files under "My Documents", loaded iTunes, Authorized the computer, and don't see my files. When I go back to "My Music" subdirectory I see very few files, when I am in iTunes I don't see my music.
    The backup and restore was for all the files in "My Documents" kept on a remote server in my home, a Seagate Technology product called Mirra.
    Questions:
    1. How should I have restored those files? Apparently the method I choose does not work. All Apple FAQ information is based on me using the Apple Backup & Restore method, which I don't use, instead favoring using a single product to backup all my data.
    2. Are there other reports of microsoft Windows Hive or SMS files being damaged in the iTunes upgrade process? Any thoughts as to this being related to the iTunes upgrade process or digital rights management?

    First -- by default iTunes stores its Library in "My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl", and its Music in "My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\".
    Make sure you have a "iTunes Library.itl" after the restore -- if not, and your backup software supports it, try an older version of the file. If your backup software only keeps the last version of the file -- well, then you are SOL, and you will have to re-add the files to the Library. You will also have to rebuild your playlists, ratings, etc.
    Since you have "very few files" in the iTunes Music directory -- either you weren't storing your music there, or your backup didn't work. Are you sure you weren't using a non-default location for your music files?
    If you had a hardware problem then it is likely that your backup stopped working properly at some point. This is why you need a rotating backup scheme and periodic archiving of files to non-writeable media (If you have the time/money)

  • Can I sync Mailboxes? Or do they need to be Smart Mailboxes?

    Hi all,
    Awhile back (sometime during OSX 10.3 or so), I set up several different mailboxes in Mail to help me organize my emails. For example, I have one mailbox dedicated to receipts that have been emailed to me, which I keep indefinitely for tax purposes. Another mailbox is for a certain email discussion list I belong to, in which I keep certain emails with information I'd like to keep on hand.
    Now, fast forward to today. I use both my G4 iMac and my Intel iMac to check for mail. And, of course, my inboxes are perfectly synchronized. However, not so with my mailboxes. For example, if, on my G4, I drag an emailed receipt from my inbox to my "receipts" mailbox, the email doesn't show up at all when I open up Mail on my Intel iMac, since it's no longer in my Inbox. So, there's no way to access the receipt from that computer. I have to boot up my G4 iMac to access that particular email.
    Is there a way to sync my mailboxes up? Or do I need to periodically archive my mailboxes on one computer and restore those archives on my other computer to do a type of "manual sync" between the two computers?
    Or, should I just change them all over to Smart Mailboxes? Smart Mailboxes will sync up automatically won't they? And I can drag emails from my inbox to a smart mailbox, right?
    Thanks for your help!
    Kevin

    The answer should actually be in your Mail's built in Help system.
    Assuming you're using a MobileMe email account it's very easy to keep your folders in sync as long as you use IMAP. I may be wrong but it sounds like the mailboxes you're trying to sync are in fact stored on your Mac and not in the server. in the list of mailboxes in Mail do you see the mailboxes listed under "MY MOBILEME" or "ON MY MAC"?
    Smart mailboxes are just mailboxes that automatically gather together emails that match the criteria specified by you.
    In Apple Mail Help search for "mailboxes" for lots of info about mailboxes, including syncing. Also search for "IMAP" if you don't know what that is.
    If you're using another email service other than MobileMe then you can still do the automatic syncing of mailboxes if IMAP is supported. Gmail for example supports it.

  • Is the Snow Leopard Mac Mini Server the right solution for my office?

    I'm the de facto "sysadmin" for my small office, which usually just means I set up the wireless, configure network printing, troubleshoot little issues with Mail and MS Office products.
    Currently, we have 4 employees all on iMacs. We share files through a slapped-together setup, where there is a public folder on our owner's iMac and we all share files there. There are a few problems with this:
    - If the owner's computer is off, no-one can get to the shared files.
    - The owner's computer has had some strange "permissions" issues so sometimes files in the "Public" shared folder end up being read-only, or "read & write" for "nobody".
    - A 5th employee telecommutes on an iMac, and can't access the shared folder or files.
    So, we're considering getting a Mac Mini Server to do file storage and sharing, both locally and with telecommuting employees (of which there may be more in the future).
    - Is this the best solution to our needs - really just file sharing, no web hosting or anything like that?
    - What level of access control / authentication can we do on the Server? For example, could we have a password protected folder on the server to restrict access?
    - Would we need to upgrade our standard DSL service if we want to share files on the server with folks not on the local network?
    - Am I biting off more than I can chew here, given that my technical knowledge is slim but I am the most computer-literate of anyone in the office, so I will need to trouble-shoot any issues that come up with the server?

    For your stated goal, network-attached storage (NAS) or an always-on Mac client would be a simpler solution. Either preferably with RAID, and with provisions and storage for periodic archives.
    A Mac OS X Server box is overkill. The Mac client boxes have 10-client sharing.
    If you want single-signon and shared directory services and mail and web and various of the other pieces and services that are available within, then you can grow into a Mac OS X Server box.
    A server is rather more to manage, regardless of what you choose. You're getting DNS and networking and other core pieces, minimally, and you're also responsible for many of the configuration settings and services and details that a client box receives from a server box. And you're definitely dealing with protections and such across multiple boxes.
    For some other perspectives, there are various previous discussions of this posted around the forums. A search that includes NAS should kick over a few of these; this is a typical low-end alternative to running a server.

  • An internet phone application for a Snow Leopard Mac Mini

    The Mac Mini which I purchased , used , because it satisfied the Phone Valet software requirements , plus maintaining usability coordinating as much of the former G5's conformity as one might hope . The folks who provided the Phone Valet device stopped writing for it in the early summer of 2011 .
    The Mac Mini is running well
      Model Name:                Mac mini
      Model Identifier:            Macmini2,1
      Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          4 MB
      Memory:          2 GB
      Bus Speed:          667 MHz
    The telephone upgrade was up next , and for that we entertained a Gigaset SL78h as a beautiful and portable choice for keeping the computer to telephone compatabiility open via the Phone Valet software & hardware application .
    The USB port on the Gigaset SL78h is advertised as a microsoft written port . This was unfortunately a swing and a miss in the guess work that assumed (guessed) a discoverable compatability of the Snow Leopard system with a usb ported , configured , handset .
    I am presently interested in discovering how to bring the Gigaset SL78h handsets beyond the Mac OSX Preferences recognition in "Network" as a Modem . What can allow Snow Leopard to recognise the device into the informational cognisance , sharing of Address Book , and Phone Valet call monitoring activities enjoyed by the previous system which when hooked up directly with the Phone Valet to computer compiled all the activity nice and neatly .
    I am paying "Vonage" for the access to my number and connections to other numbers via the internet in packets . The phone uses a Verizon FIOS connection through a combined Verizon modem and a Zytel Prestige 861 . With one other "Vonage" provided Motorola device , plus an Airport extremes ports for access which used to be read by the G5 via the Phone Valet hardware . Seems the data is either bypassed or unread by OSX's Snow Leopard , or I have hooked it up in new and unusual ways .
    Having a similar successul setup would be inspirational over here . Moral is steady but could be improved with an application which could talk to both the Gigaset SL78h and the Address and Phone Valet applications , or a recognition of a correct sequence of hardware connections .
    In all cases thank you for bearing with me this long , and if able to provide a hint to the correct direction to take for success , a thousand thanks .

  • Yahoo Mail: New Inbox Messages Are Not Downloaded To iPhone

    Keywords: iPhone, Yahoo, mail, push, slow, broken, stopped, inbox, new messages, IMAP
    Problem Description:
    I just went through an entire day of restarting, restoring, reconfiguring my iPhone after the Mail App stopped downloading new messages from my Yahoo Inbox. Other folders could receive new messages, but not the Inbox.
    After trying to get help from Apple support and Yahoo, I kept searching online. I managed to find a solution that worked and I thought I'd share this here in case anyone else has run into this problem, which I believe is a Yahoo issue, not an Apple one.
    Solution:
    From a web browser do the following
    - Log into your Yahoo Mail account via mail.yahoo.com
    - Create a new folder in Yahoo Mail (I called it "Archive")
    - Move ALL MESSAGES from your Inbox to this new folder ("Archive" in my case)
    - Send yourself a test message
    After performing these steps (essentially archiving your Inbox to another folder), you should start receiving Yahoo Inbox messages again on your iPhone. After I performed the above procedure, Yahoo Mail has been more responsive than ever before on the iPhone - even faster than my old BlackBerry...
    It seems as though the Yahoo IMAP server gets really slow or malfunctions when either there is a corrupt message or the Inbox gets too large (not sure which). It would be really cool if someone from Yahoo (or Apple) could confirm this.
    I'd be interested to see if anyone else has run into this issue and if this procedure solves the issue for you... I know for me, I will be periodically Archiving my Inbox to another folder to keep things operating smoothly.
    Good Luck!

    Hmm.. this seems to work..
    I emptied both "Spam" and "Trash" folder on a browser. After that, new emails seem to push to iPhone right away now. Let's see how long this will last..
    Does that mean that I would have to make sure there's no email in these two folders to make push work at all time?

  • Delete on very large table

    Hi all,
    one table in my database has grown to 20GB, this table holds log for applications since 2005 , so we decided to archive and delete all the log from 2005 and 2006.
    the table:
    CREATE TABLE WORKMG.PP_TRANSFAUX
    NID_TRANSF NUMBER(28) NOT NULL,
    VTRANSFTYPE VARCHAR2(200 BYTE) NOT NULL,
    VTRANSF VARCHAR2(4000 BYTE) NOT NULL,
    DTRANSFDATE DATE NOT NULL
    TABLESPACE TBS_TABWM_ALL
    The command:
    delete from workmg.pp_transfaux where dtransfdata < to_date('20070101
    00:00','yyyymmdd hh24:mi')
    My question is, what are the "best pratices" for this operation ? such a huge delete can " flood fill" the redo logs , i cant avoid it with "alter table pptransfaux nologging" ...
    So i can delete small chunks of data .. say .. delete 6 months each time ... but .. i'll get a big fragmented table ...
    my environment:
    oracle 9.2.0.1 under windows 2000
    Best Regards
    Rui Madaleno

    Since this is log data I am assuming you don't need it all online at a given time, and that you don't have a partitioning license:
    <Online>
    0. Backup the database.
    1. Create an empty duplicate table 'A'.
    <maintenance window>
    2. Exchange A and the primary table.
    <Online>
    3. insert-as-select-compress-nologging the data to keep from the primary table to A.
    4. create-table-as-select-compress-nologging the data to archive from the primary table to B.
    5. Drop the primary table.
    6. Archive and drop B.
    7. Backup the database.
    <Future>
    7. Upgrade to 11g
    8. License and utilize the automated partition generation feature to give each period its own partition.
    9. Periodically archive and drop partitions from the log table.
    If you have partitioning:
    <Online>
    1. Create an empty duplicate table, we'll call it A. It should be partitioned either by month or year.
    2. insert-as-select-compress-nologging the primary table into A.
    <maintenance window>
    3. exchange A and the primary table.
    <Online>
    4. Drop the primary table.
    5. archive and drop the partitions of A you no longer need.

  • Maintenance activities for a productive machine

    Hi,
    Although a BASIS support issue, does anybody have information regarding basic maintnance operations thas need to be performed when a machine is running in a productive situation? We have a hard drive that is rapidly filling up with information and it has become necessary to increase the disk space to fix it. I'm not so certain that the BASIS team responsible for this maintenance is monotoring and reacting completely correctly, and I would like to know myself what may be causing the problem.
    Kind Regards,
    Tony.

    Hi Anthony,
    Cause of problem is Log Files, they come on daily/hourly/weekly basis and we dont archive them.
    So Please do these:
    1. Periodically archiving log files on a different drive from Server drives.
    2. Checking of background jobs, like delay settings, any error occured, exception.
    3. Set an email option if available while any thing goes wrong.
    4. Periodically checking about server heartbeat/performance.
    5. Deleting temporary files from drives.
    6. Deactivate unnessary objects.
    7. Check the data files for dummy/corrupt data.
    8. Avoid unnessay login to production server etc.
    Hope this will help. Rewards if helpful.

  • OBPMEngine growth

    We created a relatively simple business process and have been stimulating it using Grinder. We are using SQL Server 2005 (Enterprise) as the backend DBMS for the OBPM engine. We have noted much higher growth in the DB (OBPMEngine) than expected. This growth seems mostly focused in the PNOTIF and PCOMPTRANSLOG tables. We haven't been able to find anything illuminating regarding what these particular tables are storing, and thus are having a difficult time determining if there are configuration settings in the BPM Admin Center that we could reasonably tweak to lower the number of entries going into these two tables. Some of the settings we are using are:
    The Engine Logging is set to -
    <ul><li>     (Log tab)</li>
    </ul>
    <ol><li>     Warning &lt;- Messages Logged from Server</li>
    <li>     Warning &lt;- Messages Logged from BP-Methods</li>
    </ol>
    <ul><li>     (Other tab)</li>
    </ul>
    <ol><li>     Depends on Process &lt;- Store Events</li>
    </ol>
    The Process Data Mart is set to -
    <ul><li>     Warning &lt;- Message Logged from Data Store</li>
    <li>     Yes &lt;- Generate Performance Metrics</li>
    <li>     Yes &lt;- Generate Workload Metrics</li>
    </ul>
    On a related note, is there a recommended procedure to periodically archive the OBPMEngine & OBPMDir databases in case we want to keep the BPM running for an extended period and not worry about the DB growth adversely effecting continued operation (i.e., running out of local disk space)?
    thanks,
    David

    You need to Use Disposer Option available in the Engine Configuration. This will remove the Closed instance periodically based on Disposer Latency and Instance Expiration setting yuo have provided. Make it a smaller value for them.
    Hope this helps

  • When the Database startup and open? please please not alert log

    Hello all
    is there is a script or dinamic view which query what time the database startup and shutdown.
    please don't answer me with opent alert log, am looking for view or script only
    thank you
    regards

    You wrote you don't want to use the alert.log. But
    still this could provide all the information you want
    to have.
    If you dont want to use the alert.log because you
    need to query the information by using sql you may
    consider to access the alert.log via a external table.Even the alert log may not meet the new requirements of 'all startup and shutdown history'. In a typical shop, the alert log is periodically archived or wiped.
    The answer to the OPs question probably lies in creating a new table to store the v$instance information, and create a database startup and possibly a database shutdown trigger to fill that table.
    Or start using Grid Control which has that information tucked away in one of the internal sysman tables.
