Perl cpan error
hi.
so i was using the perlcpan repo for a few things to get a script working. but after removing the repo and everything installed from it (due to conflicts between perlcpan and the Archlinux perl) and upgrading to perl 5.10 the cpan shell is giving me this error
/usr/bin/perl: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/auto/Cwd/Cwd.so: undefined symbol: Perl_Tstack_sp_ptr
err......
Hi!
Allan wrote:What module is giving those errors?
This time it's Apache::AuthenIMAP which I've also re-compiled and -installed since upgrading Perl.

[solved] error on upgrading any perl- (cpan) AUR package
with any perl- package I try to upgrade via AUR right now, I run into the same error, namely:
Can't locate object method "add_string_requirement" via package "CPAN::Meta::Requirements" at /usr/share/perl5/core_perl/CPAN/Meta/Converter.pm line 358.
at /usr/share/perl5/core_perl/ExtUtils/MM_Any.pm line 824.
Can't locate object method "add_string_requirement" via package "CPAN::Meta::Requirements" at /usr/share/perl5/core_perl/CPAN/Meta/Converter.pm line 358.
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
Aborting...
somebody already asked me (on the AUR page for perl-www-shorten)
"Check if you have /usr/share/perl5/site_perl directory with old version of CPANPlus or MakeMaker packages, which can interfere with default ones during build. "
any my answer to that
"the only thing in site_perl is File/MMagic.pm
I've also checked whether there are other "cpanplus" or "makemaker" related files on my system but there aren't. The only ones that are there are owned by the perl package itself, according to pacman -Qo."
So does anyone have any hints?
Last edited by the_eye (2012-12-17 22:53:48)in order to prevent another occurence of http://xkcd.com/979/ I'd like to mention that I found what caused the problem.
In one of the vendor_perl directories, namely /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/CPAN/Meta I had a Requirements.pm that conflicted with the one in core_perl.
the one in core_perl was new(ish) and belonged to the perl package itself.
The one in vendor_perl belonged to perl-cpan-meta version 2.113640-1 from AUR.
Runs of pacman -Syu and aurget -Su didn't catch this problem (i.e. that an AUR package that was installed was providing the same functionality that perl did now provide as well.
Removing perl-cpan-meta cleared up all those problems. -
Hi All,
I am using OWB 11gR2 and I am getting "perl" location error after start workflow for any dimension or fact.
*Cannot run program "/usr/bin/perl": CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified
The log is below. I am using Windows 2008 R2 OS and 11gR2 DB. The perl path is set in the environment variables and I can run the perl.exe from command line.
Why OWB is looking for the Unix base path "/usr/bin/perl": is a question for me.
If anybody knows the issue please guide me.
Thanks

Perl/CPAN: Installing Mac::AppleScript
I'm having trouble installing Mac::AppleScript, which is a prerequisite for Mac::AppleScript::Glue, which is a prerequisite for the iTunes Update plugin for my SqueezeBox.
I think this problem here is the culprit:
~/.cpan/build/Mac-AppleScript-0.04-ybvZch $ make
rm -f blib/arch/auto/Mac/AppleScript/AppleScript.bundle
LDRUNPATH="" env MACOSXDEPLOYMENTTARGET=10.3 cc -bundle -undefined dynamic_lookup -L/usr/local/lib AppleScript.o -framework AppleScriptKit -framework Carbon -o blib/arch/auto/Mac/AppleScript/AppleScript.bundle
/usr/bin/ld: /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/WebKit load command 20 unknown cmd field
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
Any ideas?
This Mac Mini came with 10.4 and I've applied the usual software upgrades so I'm on 10.4.11 right now.Gday All,
I just gave it a try and it worked fine. So to answer my own question you can install Perl CPAN modules in the 'standard' way.

I am trying to automate the backups and disk maintenence on a test machine using a "Host Command" in the 10g EM environment. If I run the script from the command on the target host the scripts completes successfully.
This is the script:
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0
export ORACLE_HOME
ORACLE_SID=coeusdba.
export ORACLE_SID
rman <<EOF
connect target sys<password>@coeusdba;
connect catalog <user>/<password>@recv;
replace script coeusdba_full_bkp {
allocate channel Channel1 type disk format '/u03/orabkp/coeusdba/b_%u_%p_%c';
backup
( database include current controlfile );
backup ( archivelog all delete input );
run { execute script coeusdba_full_bkp;}
EOF
/u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0/dbs/scripts/coeusdba_new.sh
exit
When I execute the same script from a 10g EM "Host Command" job the script fails at the PERL command step with the following output:

Is anyone having this problem in 10g and if so , can you provide me with some insight with respect to resolution?The .sh script calls a perl script that parses the output of the report obsolete command in rman and deletes the obsolete datasets from disk. This shell completes from the command line with no errors. Here is the .sh and the perl script. Like I said the odd thing is that this shell executes successfully from the command line. Thanks for your interest in looking at this.

# DESCRIPTION
# This perl script automates deletion of obsolete datafilecopies and
# backup pieces. It uses perl strin manipulation to process the output of the RMAN
# "report obsolete" command and creates rm commands to delete the files
# NOTES
# Some customization is necessary.
# Adapted from Oracle 8i rman1.sh Unix shell script.
# benmalek 03/08/2003 - Modified to delete backup sets and datafilecopies only
# Does not touch backup records.

Hi,
I am trying to set up dss 5.5, but whenever I want to enable the broadcaster I receive the following error message:
Error - Perl execution failed
Can't call method "state" on an undefined value at /Library/QuickTimeStreaming/AdminHtml/parse_xml.cgi line 1365.
Any idea?I get the same thing...
I also try to use the broadcaster and it just keeps popping up with a username and password field. I've reset the broadcaster username and pass several times with no luck. The "It Just Works" slogan isn't so true in my circumstances.

ESSCMD in Perl Script - Error handling
Does anyone use Perl scripts to run Esscmd commands? I'm trying to incorporate error handling and I can't seem to get Perl to recognize and error that happened when the Esscmd statement runs. A sample would be much appreciated. The fact that I'm not too familiar with Perl doesn't help! <BR>Thanks much.

Any ideas, how to fix this and where this problem comes from?Okay, first of all: I'm an absolute Noob when it comes to Perl. I only use perl in scripts I downloaded or which are part of a package.
So to answer you first question, yes:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Jul 4 14:53 /usr/bin/perl-rename -> vendor_perl/rename*
-r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 13K Jul 4 14:53 /usr/bin/vendor_perl/rename*
-r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 241K Nov 16 14:26 /usr/bin/vendor_perl/exiftool*
The scripts complain, as soon as they use perl modules, e.g. almost always:
A simple Hello World works:
`--> cat hello.pl
#!/usr/bin/perl
print "Hello World\n";
`--> ./hello.pl
Hello World
But most perl packages do not:
exiftool:
`--> exiftool
Can't locate File/RandomAccess.pm: Permission denied at /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Image/ExifTool.pm line 21.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Image/ExifTool.pm line 21.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/bin/vendor_perl/exiftool line 33.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/vendor_perl/exiftool line 33.
iptab:
`--> iptab
Can't locate Net/IP.pm: Permission denied at /usr/bin/vendor_perl/iptab line 6.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/vendor_perl/iptab line 6.
Edit:
the perl modules do exist:
`--> ll /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Net/IP.pm
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 73K Nov 28 2012 /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/Net/IP.pm
Are these the correct permissions? And why can't I install any perl modules as user?

VERY strange lag on a Dell Optiplex 760
I thought it would be a good idea to keep a 16GB flash drive on my keychain that booted Arch so I could work on HW for college in a consistent OS! Everything is working great so far, but I ran into a very strange problem with a Dell Optiplex 760. During the normal Arch init process, everything loads great, except for when it gets to the udev stage where everything hangs. But here's the strange part of this scenario: the problems go away when I start typing random keys or move the mouse! If I don't do this, the system hangs completely from what I can tell. This happens at the console and with X.
The service tag for this machine is FDCQQJ1, and the dell.com driver area brings up this list of hardware and (windows) drivers for it.
Here's the #lspci -vv of the system:

PaCPAN: tool for building Perl packages for Pacman from CPAN
http://xyne.archlinux.ca/info/pacpan
*edit*
Pacpan functionality has evolved as of version 4.0. CPAN distribution and metadata handling has improved and there are now functions which can query installed packages to determine their adherence to the packaging guidelines.
Building packages with dependency resolution etc has been move to bauerbill, which can now build CPAN packages using standard pacman options, e.g. "bauerbill -S perl-foo-bar" or "bauerbill -S Foo::Bar".

Works really well but i did run into trouble when installing Spreadsheet::WriteExcel something went wrong with one of the dependencies.
REQUIREMENTS
This module requires Perl 5.005 (or later), Parse::RecDescent

Works fine as long as i removed, 'perl-' from depends=

Script cannot find perl Data:Dumper module
Good day. I live in Australia and use a script called Shepherd to update my mythtv program listings.
After upgrading a couple of days ago (first time in about 6 months) Shepherd has stopped working.
Shepherd doesn't seem to find the perl data-dumper module, which is part of the base perl install.
All my packages are up to date as of this post, and I am on the current kernel -
uname -r
3.4.9-1-ARCH
~/.shepherd/shepherd --check
ERROR:
Mandatory module 'Data::Dumper' not found.
Please see the Wiki at <a href='http://svn.whuffy.com/wiki/Installation' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow external'>http://svn.whuffy.co...ki/Installation</a>
for details on how to install this module.
Shepherd is updating ~/.shepherd/output.xmltv (the listings information scraped from the net) but evidently needs the dumper module to post the data into MythTV.
I'm not sure if it has something to do with this, which I don't properly understand -
The current Arch Linux default perl installation installs updates to core modules into the perl core directories, creating file conflicts. Examples include modules such as Data::Dumper and version.
which is mentioned here.
I appear to have it installed as part of the perl base package -
sudo pacman -Qi perl
Name : perl
Version : 5.16.1-1
URL : <a href='http://www.perl.org' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow external'>http://www.perl.org</a>
Licenses : GPL PerlArtistic
Groups : base
Provides : perl-archive-extract=0.58 perl-archive-tar=1.82 perl-attribute-handlers=0.93 perl-autodie=2.10
perl-autoloader=5.72 perl-autouse=1.07 perl-b-debug=1.17 perl-b-deparse=1.14 perl-b-lint=1.14
perl-base=2.18 perl-bignum=0.29 perl-carp=1.26 perl-cgi=3.59 perl-compress-raw-bzip2=2.048

perl-cpan-meta-yaml=0.007 perl-cpanplus=0.9121 perl-cpanplus-dist-build=0.62 perl-data-dumper=2.135
So it seems Shepherd is suddenly not finding it for some reason, after the upgrade.
I tried installing the perl-data-dumper packages from the AUR (simple and concise) and neither of those made any difference.
I also tried installing the module with a cpan command (as root) but that gave me errors (which I'd rather not have to deal with unless I have to to fix this issue).

I ran the full delete command after backing up the directories (there was a lot in them)

Oops. Then saw your next post saying not to do that as you'd lose the vendor modules, which I did. I had backed up so I restored, so still have the vendor stuff.

Can't install Perl DBI or DBD::mysql after Mountain Lion upgrade
I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and found that my Perl DBI scripts stopped working, with the error message "Can't locate DBD/mysql.pm in @INC".
The last time this happened, after upgrading to Lion, the solution was to install the new version of Xcode. Then I was able to use the Perl CPAN module to install DBI and DBD::mysql. (MySQL is already installed and running with no problem on the Mountain Lion machine.)
Now I have installed Xcode 4.5.1, and tried
mrb% sudo perl -MCPAN -e shell
[then CPAN configures itself]
cpan[1]> install DBI
and it fails with this final message:
/System/Library/Perl/5.12/darwin-thread-multi-2level/CORE/perl.h:583:11: fatal error:
'sys/types.h' file not found
# include <sys/types.h>

Can anybody help?Here is a link to a resolution in Lion. It may also solve your Mountain Lion Perl DBD issue as well.
If you run the command below before executing your Perl script the library is found and all is well!
export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/local/mysql/lib:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH"
Put this in your .bashrc or .bash_profile.
On Apple StackExchange, Matthew Weiss had another approach.
I found on another website the following command
$ sudo perl -MCPAN -e 'CPAN::Shell->notest(install => CPAN::Shell->r)'
This updated all my perl modules and all is back to normal. Not sure why or what, but don't care that it is working now. -
Help needed with perl Image::Magick module
I don't know if this is the right place to post this (it might belong in the Newbie corner instead), but I'll give it a try.
I need an Image::Magick Perl module (and a load of other modules, which I have found) for a program I desperately need. Now, the only thing I know about Perl is that v. 6 is supposed to be coming out soon - apart from that, I'm blank. The installation is giving me some problems.
The installation guide is somewhat ambiguous. It says:
Next, edit Makefile.PL and change LIBS and INC to include the appropriate path information to the required libMagick library. You will also need paths to JPEG, PNG, TIFF, etc. delegates if they were included with your installed version of ImageMagick.
In the Makefile.PL which comes with the package, these two are defined:
'INC' => '-I../ -I.. -I/usr/include/freetype2 -I/usr/X11R6/include -I/usr/X11R6/include/X11 -I/usr/include/libxml2',
'LIBS' => ['-L/usr/lib -lMagick -L/usr/X11R6/lib64 -L/usr/lib -ltiff -ljpeg -lpng -ldpstk -ldps -lXext -lXt -lSM -lICE -lX11 -lbz2 -lxml2 -lpthread -lm -lpthread'],
I haven't changed anything in them, because I haven't got the slightest idea what to change and to what. When I run the installation procedure ('perl Makefile.PL', 'make', and 'make test'), I get an error message during the test (but not before that). Here's the entire output from 'make test':
/bin/sh ../magick.sh PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 /usr/bin/perl "-MExtUtils::Command::MM" "-e" "test_harness(0, 'blib/lib', 'blib/arch')" t/*.t t/bzlib/*.t t/jng/*.t t/jpeg/*.t t/mpeg/*.t t/png/*.t t/ps/*.t t/tiff/*.t t/x/*.t t/xfig/*.t
/bin/sh: ../magick.sh: No such file or directory
make: *** [test_dynamic] Error 127
There is mention somewhere that one might compile the module together with ImageMagick or with Perl, but I don't think I'm ready for that...
Is there anyone skilled in Perl who can tell me what it is that I'm doing wrong, alternatively make a package file...?I've found two other packages that I needed in AUR, but when I run the make test for the program that I need (fontlinge), it still complains that it can't find the Image::Magick module. I already have the imagemagick package installed, though, that's why I thought I'd have to install and compile the perl module separately.
Here's the output from the 'make test' for fontlinge:
make -C modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/eyolf/temp/src/fontlinge-2.0.1/modules'
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/eyolf/temp/src/fontlinge-2.0.1/modules/fontlinge'

It seems some required modules are missing.
How to get missing modules differs from _which_ module you are missing.
You can get modules like DBI from your distributions CD
or search the web for a RPM/DEB/...-file. www.cpan.org is always a good adress.
It may be a good idea to configure your perl-CPAN-Module as ROOT(!!!) by typing
perl -MCPAN -eshell
It is VERY important that you do not just 'su' to root but 'su -' on SuSE linux.
Once you have configured perl, you can install CPAN-modules by
perl -MCPAN -e 'install MODULENAME'
Other modules like Image::Magick require you to have the programs installed
they belong to.
If you are missing a 'fontlinge'-module, you have not installed this
program correctly. :-)
If the missing module begins with a '-' sign this module might miss,
because it is not possible to DEACTIVATE it, i.e. unwanted utf8 encoding.
make: *** [test] Error 255
If this makes sense to anyone, I'd be very happy. (For the record: Fontlinge is - or at least seems to be - the only decent font manager I've found for Linux. This seems to be a gaping, wide open black hole in the Linux world... There's gfontview, opcion, fontpage, and a couple of other minor apps that I've found, but none of them are functional for anything but the most basic operations, and on the whole, there doesn't seem to be much between the KDE font manager - which really makes one wonder how far the KDE people want to go in their emulation of windows... - and the font editor FontForge, which is great as a font editor, but overkill as a viewer, and hardly a manager.)
