Permanent html bookmarks and/or pdf nameddests

Question on FrameMaker
We have version 7.2
If I export as html I get numerous autogenerated bookmarks in the form of #WP123456
If I export as pdf and have the "Create Named Destinations for all paragraphs" set I get numerours Named Destinations in the form of G123456
As it stands now these autogenerated bookmarks may change evertime I update my document.
I want to reference a specified section in my document from a web page that is not created by FrameMaker.
I want to be able to put named bookmarks or namedests inside my document that have permenant names so I don't have to modify the referencing web pages everytime I change my manual.
Is this possible?
I want to be able to reference positions in my manual using URI such as these below from a web page not created by FrameMaker.
pdf nameddest method:  http://MySite/help/operation.pdf#nameddest=WhatToDo
or
html bookmark method:  http://MySite/help/operation54.html#WhatToDo

Almost,
It does create a nameddest but it does not give it the name specified.
Using your suggestion I found a way to create a named destination and I called it Testlink
When I tried accessing it by that given name it did not work. http://MySite/help/operation.pdf#nameddest=Testlink
When I viewed the doucment in Acrobat and asked it to show me Destination Navigation panel
I finally found my link but FrameMake renamed it to M8.newlink.Testlink.
I tested that with internet explorer and it worked http://MySite/help/operation.pdf#nameddest=M8.newlink.Testlink
Which I could live with if I can be guaranteed that the M8 will never change.
Does anyone know what the M8 represents? Is it stable or will it change over time as the document gets edited?

  • Using Thunderbird/Firefox - since last upgrade, issues with HTML emails and opening PDF

Since last upgrade, it seems that I'm having 2 (maybe 3) problems:
    1)  emails have white/grey horizontal lines in the bottom half of the email's text or graphics
    2)  can't open pdf files - when I could without issue before upgrade
    3)  Adobe Reader - I've downloaded updates, but they won't install.  (says not compatible with my computer, but running Mac OSX 10.6.8  (I even downloaded Opera brower to see if that would work, but there still seem to be Adobe issues)
    Any thoughts?

I think you are correct, that was not a good idea.
Hopefully they all wound up in Home/Library/Fonts.  You can safely delete everything in there, as OS X does not put anything in that folder.  Fonts part of the OS are

  • Since updating to FF 3.6.12 on my iMac, I have lost all my bookmarks, cannot make new bookmarks and cannot import from a saved bookmarks.html file, even after re-installing the program.

Running under mac OS X 10.5.8
    Menu bar is present
    Torbutton extension not present
Navigation buttons did not work, until I re-isntalled FF
FF "unable to restore backup file "- applies to all bookmark backup files
I next tried importing the bookmarks.html file I created last year to export them to my new notebook. 3.6.12 fails to import them back again.
The home page set in my preferences does not now come up when I load FF.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Firefox 4 initially worked fine, but after a back-up and restoration (now on a hybrid disk) it cannot find the bookmarks and crashes when I attempt to open the HTML file

I installed Firefox 4 on my 2010 13" MBP, standard configuration. It worked fine except that it didn't recognize any of the add-ons I was using and, to be frank, I don't like the interface as much as v.3. But ...
Then I backed up the entire HD, wiped the HD, removed it and replaced it with a Seagate hybrid HD. I then booted from the b/u and installed the entire HD contents on the new hybrid HD. Everything runs fine except for one thing -- Firefox 4 now will not recognize my bookmarks.
I tried reinstalling FF4 but this made no difference.
I did the b/u and restoration with Carbon Copy Cloner which I have used successfully for many b/u and restore operations on this and the white MB I previously owned.
Uh oh! I just tried to save a new bookmark (of this page) and it did not save -- or at least, it did not show in the "Show all Bookmarks" pane.
HOWEVER, when I start typing in a URL, it FF4 comes up with the completed URL in a flash. e.g. I typed "wiz" and FF4 showed me the completed URL (which should be in my Toolbar bookmarks and which I visit t least once daily).

I am in the process of expanding a database of chemistry journal articles.  These materials are ideally acquired in two formats when both are available-- PDF and HTML.  To oversimplify, PDFs are for the user to read, and derivatives of the HTML versions are for the computer to read.  Both formats are, of course, readily recognized and indexed by Spotlight.  Journal articles have two essential components with regards to a database:  the topical content of the article itself, and the cited references to other scientific literature.  While a PDF merely lists these references, the HTML version has, in addition, links to the cited items.  Each link URL contains the digital object identifier (doi) for the item it points to. A doi is a unique string that points to one and only one object, and can be quite useful if rendered in a manner that enables indexing by Spotlight.  Embedded URL's are, of course, ignored by Spotlight.  As a result, HTML-formatted articles must be processed so that URL's are openly displayed as readable text before Spotlight will recognize them.  Conversion to DOC format using MS Word, followed by conversion to RTF using Text Edit accomplishes this, but is quite labor intensive.
In the last few months, I have added about 3,500 articles to this collection, which means that any procedure for rendering URL's must be automated and able to process large batches of documents with minimal user oversight.  This procedure needs to generate a separate file for each HTML document processed. Trials using Automator's "Get Specified Finder Items" and "Get Selected Finder Items", as well as "Ask For Finder Items"  (along with "Get URLs From Web Pages") give unsatisfactory results.  When provided with multiple input documents, these three commands generate output in which the URLs from multiple input items are merged into a single block, which yields a single file using "Create New Word Document" as the subsequent step.  A one-to-one, input file to output file result can be obtained by processing one file at a time, but this requires manual selection of each item and one-at-a-time processing. What I need is a command that accepts multiple input documents, but processes them one at a time, generating a separate output for each file processed.  Is there a way for Automator to do this?

    Hi,
With the project all done, i'm preparing for the presentation. Managed to get my hands on a HD beamer for the night (Epason TW2000) and planning to do the presentation in HD.
That of course managed to bring up some problems. I posted a thread which i'll repost here . Sorry for the repost, i normally do not intend to do this, but since this thread is actually about the same thing, i'd like to ask the same question to you. The end version is in AfterEffects, but that actually doesn't alter the question. It's about export:
"I want to export my AE project of approx 30 min containing several HD files to a Blu Ray disc. The end goal is to project the video in HD quality using the Epson  EMP-TW2000 projector. This projector is HD compatible.
To project the video I need to connect the beamer to a computer capable of playing a heavy HD file (1), OR burn the project to a BRD (2) and play it using a BRplayer.
I prefer option 2, so my question is: which would be the preferred export preset?
    Project specs:
                        - 1920x1080 sq pix  (16:9)
                        - 25 fps
                        - my imported video files (Prem.Pro sequences) are also 25 fps and are Progressive (!)
To export to a BRD compatible format, do i not encounter a big problem: my projectfiles are 25 fps and progressive, and I believe that the only Bluray preset dispaying 1920x1080 with 25 fps requests an INTERLACED video  (I viewed the presets found on this forum, this thread)... There is also a Progr. format, BUT then you need 30 fps (29,...).
So, is there one dimension that can be changed without changing the content of the video, and if yes which one (either the interlacing or the fps).
I'm not very familiar with the whole Blu-ray thing, I hope that someone can help me out."
    Please give it a look.
    Thanks,
    Jef

  • Rh10 - HTML Help - linking to pdf shows when generate CHM and 'view results' but not when double-click on CHM in project folder or in product help

I have several PDFs in Baggage Files that are linked to topics in the Table of Contents.  When I generate the CHM file and 'View Results' I am able to pull up/access the PDFs with no problem.  When I go into the project folder and just double-click on the CHM file, I cannot pull up/access any of the PDFs nor can I access them in the product help.  Any ideas?  Is a setting "off" somewhere in my project?
    I am using RoboHelp 10.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the idea, but I can't switch the project to WebHelp.  This .chm project consists of a master project with 18 slave projects and a slew of remote jumps.  I'd have to recreate all of the remote jumps if I switch to WebHelp.
Hopefully Adobe can fix this issue.
Well, first off, even though it would be WebHelp, it would be inside a CHM container. So for all intents and purposes it would be a CHM file. But having said that, I'm not sure there is a way to merge these hybrid types of CHM files.
If your statement about Adobe fixing the issue is meaning that they can either remove the Print icon from the CHM Viewer, I wouldn't hold my breath because as I said, that's in Microsoft's lap and they haven't updated the CHM viewer in a long while. Doubtful they ever will.
The only hope would then be for Adobe to update the code used for the Mini TOC. The only way that will happen is if enough folks submit this as a bug via the following link:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
Until that would happen, your likely best bet is to simply avoid using the Mini-TOC feature or just insert a warning that if the topic is printed, it will cause issues. Or, you could use bookmarks and links to establish your own verision of a "Mini-TOC"

  • How can I force Firefox to properly format all html pages to a pdf without losing top and right hand margins?

Setting up page printout format for pdf on a Mac OS/X Snow Leopard Mac Pro. Printer is HP 8500A OfficeJet Pro Plus bought after July 14, 2011 serial number- CN141CK7QM
When I print to file as a pdf I am getting the first page correctly but subsequent pages are getting clipped along the top and the right margins.
I don't have this problem with my IBook 4.0
The issue is formatting an html page to a pdf when the print request is asking for a pdf or when the print request is to the printer.
The url to my HP Office jet Pro 8500A Plus is:
    mdns://Officejet%20Pro%208500%20A910%20%5B530E4F%5D._pdl-datastream._tcp.local./?bidi
I have a IBook G4 and I do not have any of this problem.
I have specified a default paper size of "USLetter".
This printing issue is a new one that occurred since I started the Firefox updates after Firefox 6.0 series.
I am checking with HP on this issue. Prior to the HP8500A (installed in July 2011) I did have a HP6180 Officejet for several years without encountering such a conflict.
So my second question is; Are there Firefox printing conflicts with the HP 8500A printers?

  • What are the best options for creating a PDF with bookmarks and a hyperlinked TOC?

What I'm interested in is whether or not there is an alternate process I could follow that would side step Word 2011's inability to export to PDF with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs. How do you create PDF documents with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs in your documents?
    Some background:
In Word 2010 and 2013 for Windows (and I'm sure this applies to older versions as well), you can export documents to a PDF file format where the exported file will carry over the bookmarks and hyperlinked table of contents. Specifically, by making specific text headers, will appear in the final PDF file as bookmarks on the side (see image taken from Adobe's website).
Regarding the table of contents, using Word's built in Table of Contents feature successfully ports the ability to navigate to a specific section by clicking on its chapter in the table of contents to the finished PDF file.
I've read several forum discussions that say it's not possible to do this from Word 2011, so my current solution is to just finish all documents on a Windows machine (either with parallels or a separate computer). The alternate process flow of creating a word document, exporting it to PDF, then rehyperlinking everything in Acrobat is just too time consuming to consider.

    Hi, beejasaurus
I found a possible kluge from this discussion here
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1008480
Create the hyperlinks in Word, save the file
Open that file with Pages, export as PDF.
The links work from that PDF.
Note, I did not try this with TOC but it worked with hyperlinks embedded in the Word document

  • There is no "Organize Bookmarks" on my Bookmark tab and I don't know how to import html bookmarks from old computer, which is now dead, per the instructions.

I saved my old bookmarks as part of my regular backup from my old computer. It died this week and I just bought a new computer. The instructions for importing an html file with bookmarks says to open the Organized Bookmarks tab under Bookmarks. My computer does not have this bookmark and I can't find anywhere else how to import the html file with my old bookmarks. The old computer used Windows XP and this one has Windows 7.

"Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in the bookmarks menu. The rest of the instructions will be the same.

  • Import bookmarks from html not working (YES, I know it really IS an html file and not JSON)

My objective is to make a global edit to the bookmarks in one folder. To do so, I exported to an HTML file, opened that file in Notepad, deleted all the other bookmarks, and did a search-and-replace to correct the ones I was trying to fix. Saved the file and attempted to import into Firefox. I *can* open the file and see the links, and I can use Import and Backup to get to the file and select it for import. However, after that, NOTHING happens.

Yes, does have .html extension and does work if opened in a tab. However, I just discovered that there was a missing > which proved to be the issue.
Once that was corrected, the import worked as it should.
Thanks! Your questions made me look again more closely -- I had overlooked that error MANY times earlier. :)

  • I can not get my IE 8 favorites over to Firefox (ver.25.0.1) bookmarks even after exporting IE fav. to html file and then in Bookmarks importing thru Manager!!

using XP professional, have hundreds of Favorites in IE 8. I can not get them over into Firefox either directly from the Bookmarks Manager (show all bookmarks/import and backup/Import data from another browser OR by exporting the Favorites in IE 8 to a html file (did) and then coming back over to Firefox Bookmarks and using the Bookmarks/show all bookmarks/import and backup/import bookmarks from html file. I find the file, double click it open BUT nothing happens in the Bookmarks Library???
It is not a case on some come over - nothing happens??

Did you try a search in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) for some know bookmarks?
Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • PDF optimizer destroying bookmarks and links

Help. I am trying to reduce a PDF book from 730MB to under 700, so it can be published on a CD. Reduce file size cannot be used as it reduces resolution of images too much. The pages need to print out well on home printers as they have detailed charts.
I am on Acrobat 8. The PDF was produced by InDesign 5.0.4.
I am using PDF optimizer but it is destroying my bookmarks and hyperlinks, though not consistently.
My images and embedded video take up 98% of the space so I only need to compress the images slightly.I have set image compression to 300, Jpeg2000, Lossless.
I have made it compatible with Acrobat 8. In Discard User Data and Discard Objects no boxes are checked, but the boxes with these titles on the left are checked.
In Clean Up settings I have 'Compress document Structure', with 3 boxes ticked - use Flate (2 boxes), and Optimize for fast web view.
What can I do to reduce the file size slightly but keep all bookmarks and links?

I'm running Acrobat 9 Professional. There may be some differences if you are running another version.
Do you have View/Page Display set to Allow Scrolling when you create these bookmarks/links?  This will allow you to set Bookmarks with part of the next page showing.  However, when you click on a bookmark it will take you to the top of the next page.
This is a "feature" of the software and I think there is nothing you can do about it.   You can add actions to your bookmark that will zoom out and zoom in after going to the destination but these only approximate the actual destination.  Using Named Destinations will not work either.
A better way would be to create your bookmarks from the Structure of your document (i.e., the Tags Panel).  Bookmarks created from the Structure will allow the display of more than one page. The heading or other tagged content that is bookmarked will appear at the top of the display.    The Action will look the same in the Panel, but the Bookmark has a different effect.
Interestingly, Set Destination seems not to be an option for bookmarks created from Structure.

    Dear Experts,
I am using Oracle 9i and Developer 6i. How I convert report in PDF, HTML, Excel and others format after generating the report. When i try to generate, then giving the following error message:
    REP-0999: Unimplemented Error.
How can I solve it, Please help me.

Do the column headings display ok but the data does not?
If so it may be related to the font size. i.e. the whole report may not fit on the page when scaled for pdf output.

  • Combining bookmarks .html files, and sorting

    Hi,
    (1) I know how to import bookmarks, but, once I import all of my bookmark .html files, (have 6)... than I go to show all bookmarks, I have 6 "unsorted bookmarks" folder tabs, and one "unsorted bookmarks" tab of my current bookmarks. How do I combine all of these into 1 giant .html file? Or is it automatically combined once I imported, to where I can export and it'll have all 6 old .html files and my current bookmarks?
    (2) I know how to sort bookmarks, and I like sorting by "location", but is there a way to export as .html file so it saves the .html book mark file by "location"?
    (3) In the .html file there is some sub description for each bookmark, such as "Twitter is a social networking site, where users tweet to other users blah blah", is there any way to delete this? I'd like it only to display the bookmark name and the URL (usually I'll have to click on the name and it'll open up the website), but I like the website to be typed out.

-1- <br />Yes all those bookmarks.html files will be merged into Firefox, and when you 'export' from Firefox those 6 files will be in one html file. No those extra 'unsorted bookmarks' folders won't be automatically combined, you need to do that yourself.
-2-<br />No, 'location' sorting isn't reflected in an exported bookmarks.html file. That type of 'sort' is temporary in the Library view, and doesn't rearrange bookmarks in the places.sqlite file which is what is exported in html format. <br />
Save this code as a Bookmarklet and click on it to make an HTML page editable. <pre><nowiki> javascript:document.body.contentEditable='true';%20document.designMode='on';%20void%200</nowiki></pre>
Once the page is 'editable', you will be able to cut and paste bookmarks from one place on the page to another.
-3-<br/>This code when run in the URL bar ''(or saved as a bookmarklet)'' while a bookmarks.html file is being displayed in Firefox will strip the extraneous information from that bookmarks file. Just save the bookmarks file when the 'strip' is completed.
    <pre><nowiki>javascript:%20(function(){%20var%20ls=document.getElementsByTagName('*'),%20lsl=ls.length;%20for%20(var%20i=0;%20i<lsl;%20i++)%20{l=ls[i];%20l.removeAttribute('id');%20l.removeAttribute('last_charset');%20l.removeAttribute('icon');%20l.removeAttribute('ICON_URI');l.removeAttribute('last_modified');%20l.removeAttribute('last_visit');%20l.removeAttribute('add_date');%20l.removeAttribute('personal_toolbar_folder');}%20var%20e=document.getElementsByTagName('dd');%20el=e.length;%20for(var%20i=el-1;i>=0;i--)%20e[i].parentNode.removeChild(e[i]);%20alert('Cleanup%20Complete%20-%20Save%20as%20Web%20Page,%20Complete\n'+'('+lsl+'%20bookmarks,%20'+el+'%20descriptions)')})();</nowiki></pre>
