Permanent list of duplicates using drag & drop with iPhoto 11

Every time I drag and drop a photo into iPhoto 11 from a website or other source, I'm asked if I want to also add every other photo I've ever dragged and dropped in. I can opt not to import duplicates, but is there a way to clear out or avoid this ever-growing list?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

By the way, has anyone tried to drag & drop a node from a listview to a
treeview? I can drag a node from the listview. But when I drop it into
the treeview, how can I find out which node of the treeview that I drop

Try to change the state of the DVNodeText of the list view to FS_DRAG.
For example,
<MyListView.DVNodeText>.state = FS_DRAG. This may solve your problem.

How to Rearrange components using Drag Drop functionality

Hi,
Is it possible to re-arrange the components inside the form using drag drop functionality in RCF?
There are 3/4 section headers in my screen, user can re-arrange them.
But as per the RCF document it says, "Drag Drop functionality allows users to drag the value of one component and drop it on to another". It dosent say any thing about component drag-drop.

there is a componentDragSource element that you use for this. However, persisting the change of location is not handled automatically. I didn't try this, but I assume that using the component drag option gives you access to the UI component itself so you can nest it in another container

Ps.: the drag event always givey you access to the component. This componentDragSource however shows the component when dragging, which is a slightly better indicator if you plan to re-arrange items

Can't use drag&drop

Using Elements 10 with iPhoto

I have always used iPhoto 11 on my iMac for my photo editing and organising, but have decided to broaden my editing/organising opportunities by purchasing Elements 10, which I have just loaded successfully.
However, when I right click a photo in iPhoto 11 and select 'Edit in external editor' - although it opens up the Elements 10 workspace, the selected photo doesn't appear.
I've also tried changing in iPhoto's preferences (Advanced) to using Elements 10. Again, when editing is selected in iPhoto it opens up the Elements 10 workspace but not the photo.
Any idea what's going wrong here? An alternative is to drag & drop from iPhoto to Elements 10 editing workspace - which DOES work, but I shouldn't have to do that, should I ?

Thanks Barbara B, as usual very helpful. From these screen shots can you tell if I have done this correctly as per your instructions ? Is it best to store the jpegs only in the elements organizer? and keep the raw and XMP files on the hard drive or should they always be together?

Manual sync drag & drop with many playlists

Ok I do not want to automatically sync my itunes with either my iPod or iPhone - end of story. I have 1000's of songs. I also organize my music by creating playlists, not just by artist but also DJ playlists. I have more single songs then entire albums. For years I've found the drag & drop highly irritating as it's the only way - that I know - to put a playlist manually on external devices. What I do instead is use a bullet or spaces before my playlist so they're at the top of the iTunes list but this is very tedious and and time consuming. I then have to remove the bullets/spaces once I've finished.
Is there something I'm missing here? With every update of iTunes I'm hoping something as simple as "sync selected playlist to external device" in some form will show up. What's the story? Why is something so convenient and simple not available?

Agreed!!! If I'm missing something here please let me know but to manually drag and drop play lists is not an option for me. I arrange all my music in play lists (as mentioned above). I need a way of safely backing up the lists in case they get lost / damaged / accidentally erased (I can't tell you how frustrating it is to hit the delete button by mistake - to lose a play list when all I wanted to do was delete a single track).......
Currently my ipod is my only way off backing up the lists. I'm also constantly updating these lists, so to manually go and back up each play list would take weeks.....
Backing up the data list (XML) wont do either. I need a way of backing the play list and actual tracks that are included in the list. I know a lot of people who share this concern.

Drag & drop with Safari

I use a language site that needs the drag and drop gesture to match words with their meaning. When I try this on ipad's safari, it scrolls the page instead. Is there a way to turn off the scrolling so Safari responds to the drag and drop gesture?

First, though, you may stop and wonder about how Drag & Drop is already working in iOS in any number of apps, which, by the way, does include Safari. It may not work on some particular site that you're interested in, but certainly does in others.

Refresh dragProxy in List component built-in drag & drop feature

Hi,
I'm using the built-in drag & drop feature of the List component. Everything works fine except one thing. The itemRenderer I use in my List contains many TextInput that the user can fill. The problem is when I drag an itemRenderer to reorder my list, the dragProxy of the itemRenderer doesn't show the text I enter in the TextInput; it shows the original state of my itemRenderer.
Is there any way to update the dragProxy to reflect the changes made in the itemRenderer ?

If editable=true, the user's changes should be saved to the dataprovider when the drag starts. The dragproxy renders whatever is in the dataprovider item

Drag & Drop with Fdev6iR2 on Linux / Adding object to an object group

Hi all
I experienced a very annoying bug in Forms Developer 6i Release II for Linux when I tried to add a Object to an Object group.
The drag & drop simply doesn't work and there seems to be no way to work around this.
Has anybody an idea whether there's another way to add an object to an objectgroup or what could cause this error?
I'm using KDE 1.1.2-48 on XFree86 4.0.1-1 with Motif WM 1.2.4-3glibc installed, maybe this helps one of you...

Simple drag&drop with handler doesn't work in Edge?

Hi all!
I made this very simple example of Drag&Drop in Edge: http://www.terredainventare.it/simpledrag/simpledrag.html using Jquery Ui http://docs.jquery.com/UI/Draggable.
I try to use the JQueryUi "handle" property that makes you drag an object restricting drag click on only one element but it doesn't work.
Here's the code I've put in Edge onCompositionReady:
sym.$("drag").draggable({ handle:"handler" });
Of course my two Div-elements are called "drag" and "handler". Now the drag works only on the "wrong" element and not on the "handle".....

Add file contents using drag drop method

I want to add file contents to a text view by drag drop method. How i can do that in cocoa using objective c? Can anybody help me. I am using following code in my appCotroller file to do the same but can't get the desired out put. Insted of getting file contents, i m getting the file URL (Path) in the text view.

It is very hard to debug code I haven't seen. If you are getting the URL in your text view, you must be handling the drag operation correctly. Instead of putting the pasteboard data into the text view, get the file's contents and put that into the text view.
Also can you give me a sample code on how to open files in coccoa, how to read the contents of that file?

This is a nice example of how to move a rectangle around a Canvas in Kinect...
But how can it interact with other objects? In my case ones that have AllowDrop="True"?
For example: If I put your DragDropElement around an Image then shift it up to a Canvas that is subscribed to the Drop event nothing is fired upon letting go.
The mouse equivalent of:

Why can't I use Snapfish anymore with iPhoto 08? I cannot see the library.

I recently upgraded to iPhoto (iLife 08) now when I try to upload pics to snapfish it cannot see the folder. I know it is there cause I see it in Finder. It shows all other folders but the iPhoto folder is invisible. Does anyone know a setting or a way that I can utilize photo developing other than the proprietary ones for Apple?
Please help. I feel like I've been swindled. (Seems Like something Microsoft would do)

You haven't been swindled, no one is forcing you to do anything.
With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
It has never been the correct procedure to root through the iPhoto Library Folder - in fact on every version the documentation has expressly stated that you should never do so.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.

To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
All of these are faster and safer than rooting around in the iPhoto Library Folder
You might also check if Snapfish have updated their plug-in for iPhoto yet? If Snapfish haven't bothered to update their plug-in, you might want to check out many of the other services that have. Or are supported by an app like PictureSync. So, nothing proprietary there.

Cannot drag & drop to iPhoto

I've had this computer since February & it's always let me drag & drop photos until last week. I can't find anything in settings to fix this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

Using kodak C360 with Iphoto

Has anyone used the Kodak C360 with Iphoto? The camera is not on the "approved" apple list, but it seems some people in the discussions have still had luck with some cameras working.

I don't think it will work with iPhoto even if you use a card reader since it uses the Smart Digital memory card. It seems that support of that card format has slipped based on all of the users reporting problems with cameras using that type of card.
