Permanently keeping "find" in Safari window

I like the find feature in Safari. Is there any way to permanently keep it in all windows, instead of always having to hit Command:F or pulling the edit menu down?
Thanks!
Lindsay

Hi Lindsay,
No, it's been designed to be hidden unless needed.
I agree a preference ought to be available for keeping it open. You can send a suggestion to Apple via the Safari Menu>Report Bugs to Apple.

  • How do I stop Finder, Firefox, Safari windows "auto-maximizing"

I have searched the internet, the Apple websites, MacRumors, a bunch of other "Answers" type sites, trolled my settings and still can't find an answer to this or even explain it properly.
On my MacBook Pro and Mac Mini I am having issues with the finder windows/firefox/safari windows maximizing when I drag them close to the Finder Bar at the top of my screen. I want to know if there is a way to turn this off?
I have recently wiped and reformatted my MacBook Pro 13" and installed Lion OS X 10.7 on it (Mac Mini is also running this OS) and it doesn't have this feature "enabled". I want to know if there is a setting that I have overlooked or if it is possible to turn this feature off. I have looked in the Finder Preferences as well as every category in the System Preferences and can't seem to locate anywhere that I can select this feature.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Lanny..  I looked through all my third party applications (app store stuff) as well and there doesn't seem to be any third party software or UI that's overlaying on top of Lion.. I have combed my mini and can't find anything that is causing this.. any other ideas?

  • How do you have 2 Safari windows open and show both pages simultaneously on the monitor

How do you keep open 2 Safari windows and show both pages on monitor?

While in Safari with your first window open go to the File menu and select New Window. That will open the second window on which you can navigate to your second web page. Resize both windows to fit on your display.

  • How many Safari windows can I open at one time?

I have an old habit of keeping lots of Safari windows open at one time, instead of closing them as I go. I'm using a G4 iBook with 768 of RAM over an Airport wireless system. I have at least 40 gigs of open space on my HD and recently repaired permissions and emptied cache and history, but it takes FOREVER for new pages to load. I've enabled the interference filter, which seemed to help for a day or so, but I'm back to beach ball ****. Meanwhile, my spouse is using a TiBook 667 with Airport card on the same Airport base station, and has none of the delays I do.
Does having a couple dozen Safari windows open at one time slow the whole program down? If not, anyone have any other ideas?

iTunes will only open one library at a time.
    Regards.

  • Any way to lock Safari window size?

    Hi people,
As the topic saids, how do I lock the Safari window size (if there is a way to) as sometimes there are internet sites which automatically resize the window either to cover the whole desktop or to shink it to a little box, its really annoying.
Incase you guys are thinking some sorta adult sites, here's an example url: http://footlocker.eu/nikezoom/

    Hi Dimaxum,
The thing is, that site automatically expands to full screen, which I DO NOT want it to. I was wondering if there's some settings that allows me to "over-ride" those website settings and keep my normal Safari window size.

Safari will not let me keep more than 3 windows open, when I try to open 4th, one goes away, just installed 9.4 last week, nothing but problems

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • I keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I get it when I either try to open it from the Start menu or from the desktop icon.

I've just installed Firefox on my laptop and keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I get this message whenever I either try to open it from the Start menu or from the desktop icon. I've never gotten it to work and even uninstalled it and then redownloaded it and still cannot get it to open. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Are you installing from the official site? http://www.mozilla.com/firefox
If you use Windows Explorer (My Computer) to check that path, is the Mozilla Firefox folder there? That is the normal installation location, but I think it's worth checking.
If the folder isn't there or firefox.exe is not in it, I wonder whether some other software might be interfering. You might want to run some supplemental security scans. These two tools are highly regarded:

Open the General tab of the Safari preferences and correct the home page; the default page is this one. If it has become set to a folder on an FTP server or a local drive, that request will be sent to the Finder. (28252)

    Thanks for any help

    Cofeebean wrote:

Keep in mind that on the Mac, even if you close all windows of an application, the application itself may still be running with no windows open. If you have closed all Safari windows, look at the Dock to see if there is a glowing dot under the Safari icon. If there is a dot, Safari is still running, so click the Dock icon and then choose Safari/Quit Safari.
As an alternative to looking for the dot under an application in the Dock, I often use the Command-Tab keyboard shortcut to display the Application Switcher so I can see which applications are still open.
You don't have to open Activity Monitor to quit a program unless there really is no way to way to do it from the normal interface.
The only applications that quit when you close the window are the ones that only have one window, like System Preferences.

I'm using OS 10.10.1 and Safar 8.0.  I keep getting an error window that to view web content I need to install Java Runtime Environment.  I did so, but keep getting the error window.  Any suggestions?

Most likely, you have a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple, such as the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it. Otherwise, install Java.

  • Flash Player keeps failing in safari

I am using mac OS X Yosemite.
For some unknown reason flash keeps failing in safari, but works in chrome. I can't seem to resolve this issue, This is what I tried so far from answers I received in the apple support forums:
If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced ▹ Delete All...
In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
Delete All Site Data and Settings
then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
We have also run diagnostics on my mac but could not resolve this and eventually I was told the only thing left to do is seek support from adobe.
    Please help!

alright, also, I saw that in those instructions it tells me to delete these:
    <home directory>/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash\ Player
    <home directory>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash\ Player
now I can't find any of that stuff but I did find two files called com.macromedia.Flash Player.plugin.sb
in the library sub folders. should I delete them?

  • Tile Safari Windows in Current Space

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to fix this apple script to only work on the windows in the current Space.
--When in Safari, the coordinates {0,0} refer to the upper corner not including the menubar.
    tell application "Safari"
-- For some reason Safari has two invisible windows
set allWindows to (every window where visible is true)
set n to (count of allWindows)
-- Determine screen size of your machine
    tell application "Finder"
set screenSize to bounds of window of desktop
set screenWidth to item 3 of screenSize
set screenHeight to item 4 of screenSize
    end tell
-- Dividing by zero is bad
if n is equal to 0 then return
set windowWidth to screenWidth / n
    if (n > 0) then
    activate
    set x to 1
-- Position each window in turn
    repeat
    tell window x
    set bounds to {windowWidth * (x - 1), 0, windowWidth * x, screenHeight}
    end tell
    set x to x + 1
if x is equal to (n + 1) then exit repeat
    end repeat
    end if
    end tell
The problem is that if I have multiple safari windows open, the variable allWindows is set to the number of safari windows in every space combined. I only want to tile the windows in the current space, and if I use this script as it is now it will tile them, but it will set their widths to allow for all windows in every space to be tiled along side. This leaves more empty space depending on how many other windows I have open.
Does anyone know how to test how many windows are only in the current space?
I'm terrible with Applescript, so specifics will be very much appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
Thank you for your reply, Pierre.
Just in case anyone is wondering, I didn't write this script, I found it somewhere online and then promptly forgot where. However, it doesn't work very well if I have other windows in other spaces, so I wanted to see if I could figure it out.
It's still not working correctly, it seems to work the same way as before:
--When in Safari, the coordinates {0,0} refer to the upper corner not including the menubar.
    set theTargetIDs to {}
    tell application "Safari"
set theIDs to id of every window
set theIDs to reverse of theIDs -- to keep the initial stacking order
    repeat with thisID in theIDs
set index of window id thisID to 1 -- try to change the index value
if index of window id thisID is 1 then -- the window is in the current space
copy (thisID as number) to the beginning of theTargetIDs
    end if
    end repeat
theTargetIDs -- from front to back - the windows that are in the current space
set n to (count of theTargetIDs)
-- Determine screen size of your machine
    tell application "Finder"
set screenSize to bounds of window of desktop
set screenWidth to item 3 of screenSize
set screenHeight to item 4 of screenSize
    end tell
-- Dividing by zero is bad
if n is equal to 0 then return
set windowWidth to screenWidth / n
    if (n > 0) then
    activate
    set x to 1
-- Position each window in turn
    repeat
    tell window x
    set bounds to {windowWidth * (x - 1), 0, windowWidth * x, screenHeight}
    end tell
    set x to x + 1
if x is equal to (n + 1) then exit repeat
    end repeat
    end if
    end tell
Am I missing something? I don't think that script is selecting only the windows in the current space- it's still tiling in every space. Can you take a look?
Sorry for my incapability to help myself. :S
    Thank you.

  • Size and position of Safari windows

I don't think anyone's noticed the problem discussed at the end of a thread, outlined here:
    K H N Lim, "Enlarge Window Size" #3, 01:44pm Jul 28, 2005 CDT
It's a problem a lot of people (okay, four of us) are having. Quick summary:
"I launch Safari, resize the window and position it at the upper lefthand corner. Quit Safari and relaunch. Initially the window stays put, but after a while, the position shifts. And keeps shifting more and more toward the right of the screen with each subsequent launch."
I've had the same problem and it makes it hard to switch from one app to another, with Safari shifting all over the screen and refusing to remember how it was positioned from launch to launch. Any ideas what's up?

I used to be bugged by this too. Then I saw a message from someone who suggested the following applescript (with changes to coords to match your screen size and position you want). Mine is set for 1600 x 1024 resolution on my 22" cinema display. The coords are for top left corner and bottom right corner of the Safari window.
    Make a new bookmark, i.e. press COMMAND-D
Specify that it should go in the bookmarks bar.
Go to the bookmarks screen in Safari.
    Find the bookmark.
Select the name (left side) and edit it to something like Window Position.
Select the URL (right side) and paste in (without the quotes)
    "javascript:self.moveTo(190,0);self.resizeTo(1150,995)"
    Close the bookmarks window/screen.
Click on "Window Position" in the bookmarks bar and the window will resize to specified size and position.
