Permanently remove package from AUR/yaourt updates

I've installed grub-git manually from the AUR, because I needed to patch it in order to get the intel graphics working on my MacBook. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ma … _on_11.2C3
I usually use yaourt -Syua to keep my system up to date. Now yaourt offers me a new version of grub-git every time I update and the patch that I applied would get removed. Is there a way to remove grub-git from the list or to ignore it permanently?

I can live with that, if there isn't a more elegant way.

hi, ive been using avant window navigator, the bzr version from the AUR. after a system update it stopped working and i want to try something else out anyway, but when i try to remove it i get

That will remove avant-window-navigator-bzr and anything that depends on it.

[yaourt] update only packages from aur

I just switched from my own aur_update script to yaourt, because it handles dependencies.. But how to only update packages from aur?

Package from AUR failed to install after doing many steps, how to rm?

How can I see what files have been left on my hard drive after a package failed to install. I can't pacman -Rsu the package because it didnt install, but now i got some other packages that i don't need then. and probably some other stuff while the package was being extracted..

Yeah gen2ly, i was using yaourt to get a package from AUR.
I was able to uninstall the extra packages that were uninstalled, but is it possible that when the PKGBUILD failed that it left some random files somewhere? That's what I trully want to know. The other dependancies i have already removed.

Virtual memory exhausted when compiling packages from AUR

Recently I've seen this error more and more often. When I tried compiling some packages from AUR, I ended up getting "virtual memory exhausted" error. The first time it happened with clementine-git, then android-studio. Can I do something about it?

I am also facing the same problem. I am trying to install a package, and the installations aborts saying 'virtual memory exhausted'. The RAM is 2 GB and i have alloted 2 GB as swap. Things i have tried so far
-install using yaourt
-install using makepkg.
-change TMPDIR to HDD.
Even when i tried it without any window manager to start, limiting the RAM usage, the problem still persists. The only way is to allot an extra swap space, but that would mean that i will have to delete a partition, which is not a feasible solution. Is there anything else one could do. ?

Can I legally remove packages from a JRE bundled with my Application

Can anyone help me get clarification on whether or not I can remove packages from a JRE that I am bundling with my Java Desktop Application. The full JRE is 90+ megs, my application does not require all of that. It was my understanding that I could modify the JRE as long I left the copyright notifications in place and did not try to represent the JRE as something I created. The license agreement is vague, at best. I was looking for direction or legal statement that allows me to trim out unnecessary packages from a JRE that is bundled with my application.

Remove package from Distribution Point

I have been fighting with an OS deployment for the last day. The log was showing it was unable to find the package p0100001 which was my boot image. I eventually got it working as I failed to configure my boundary correctly. But it got me wondering...
In SCCM 2007, it was pretty straight forward on how to remove packages from distribution points. But I still can't figure out how to remove a package, specifically a boot image, from a DP. I can view the distribution in the monitoring section and see the
package successfully deployed, but what if I wanted to remove that boot image from the DP? How is this done. I'm sure it's staring me in the face, but I'm missing it. Thanks!

I realize this is an old post, but I am dealing with the same issue regarding the removal of deployment package contents from Distribution Points. After removing a Distribution Point from the Contents Locations tab on one of my Deployment Packages,
how long does it take for the deployment package to be removed from the distribution point. I have removed a large deployment package from a distribution point, but am not seeing any increase in the available free space.
Any help would be appreciated.

[SOLVED] Building VCS packages from AUR fails

Hello,
Whenever I try to build a git or svn package from AUR, build fails with the error in a clean chroot enviroment:
==> ERROR: Unknown download protocol: svn
Aborting...
When the build starts, makepkg actually downloads source files properly. Any clues?

I was building https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/uefi-shell-svn: a popular and up-to-date PKGBUILD.
Indeed I didn't merge the conf files of clean chroot. There was a makepkg.conf.pacnew, the lacking part in my old makepkg.conf was:
VCSCLIENTS=('bzr::bzr'
'git::git'
'hg::mercurial'
'svn::subversion')
and some small changes. Everything works fine now. Was my bad. Sorry for incovenience and thanks for your help.

Apps don't operate in the cloud - they're either downloaded to your device, or they're in your Purchased list. You can't permanently remove the history of apps you've purchased, but you can hide them. See this link:

it keeps asking me to continue bulding and then restart building. it just wont install any packages.
for none-aur packages it works fine btw.

Can you check if:
sudo mkdir /etc/hal/fdi
sudo touch /etc/hal/fdi/policy
solves the problem?

How to Return List of Packages from Pacman/Yaourt Search

Changed the name of the script from pacsearch to pacdot.
Apparently yaourt -Ssaq does this, so this script isn't as necessary as I thought. Although, I still find using pacdot -w to open the results in a text document helpful.

This isn't a question; it's a script I wrote. I thought someone else might find this useful.
I keep finding myself searching with pacman or yaourt and wishing I could get just the package names, not all of the extra stuff. For example, I'd love to be able to run yaourt -Sa $(yaourt -Ssa package). It doesn't seem like pacman and yaourt have an option for this (not that I can tell, at least), so I wrote a python script to do it. Copy it if you'd like. You can name it what you want, but I'll refer to it as pacdot.py.
pacdot.py package will be like yaourt -Ssa package but only list the package names.
I added a few extra options:
pacdot.py -o package will only list results from the official Arch repositories, not the AUR.
pacdot.py -i package will install all the found packages. If you've ever thought about running something like yaourt -Sa $(yaourt -Ssa package), that's what this command does.
pacdot.py -w package will:
Create a file called 'the-package-you-searched.txt',
Write an example command that would install the found packages,
(yaourt -Sa all-of-the-results),
Write each result on a new line, and
Open the file for you (with your default text editor).

expac works only with official and unofficial repos, not with the AUR, but it's very nice.
Adding '-q' should help, grep to weed out false positives.
yaourt -Sa $(yaourt -Ssaq pulse)
works, but

Error installing package from AUR. /usr/lib64 exists in filesystem

I installed the package zoneminder-xinetd 1.27.0-1 using the instruction on the wiki, the installation finished successfully. then I realized that the package was outdated, so I uninstalled it using "sudo pacman -R zoneminder-xinetd", manually edit the files .AURINFO and PKGBUILD to get the new version, compiled successfully using 'makepkg -s' but when I'm try to install it(sudo pacman -U zoneminder-xinetd-1.28.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz) I got this error:
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
zoneminder-xinetd: /usr/lib64 exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
I also tried to install this other package https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/zoneminder after removing some unwanted dependencies but i get the same error.

I solved this issue by adding "-DCMAKE_INSTALL_LIBDIR=/lib" to the cmake in the PKGBUILD. The mantainer of the zoneminder package solved this already by adding "-DZM_PERL_SUBPREFIX=/lib/perl5 \".
Also, I adopted the zoneminder-xinetd package .

[SOLVED] Unable to build packages from AUR (build: command not found)

I recently hosed the filesystem on my arch install of ~8 months. I reinstalled arch today and didn't have many problems since I had backups of many important config files. Anyways, I still need to get a few programs installed from AUR, but nothing I get from AUR will build.
I download the tarball, extract into a folder in /home/myuser/builds and then go into that folder and run makepkg -s (as always)
It checks the files and extracts/downloads them. Then I get the following error message:

I've run abs and I checked out the abs wiki page, I've also installed base-devel. I am not sure what else I need to do, the error message is not specific enough.
The packages I have been trying to install are ttf-ms-fonts 2.0-7, keepass 2.14-2, and I also tried ttf-vista-fonts 1-3. I am fairly certain that it is not a problem with the PKGBUILD files.

Nope, haven't tried that, I think mainly because I wanted to learn how to use pacman and how to build using ABS. At this point I think I know how to use pacman/abs, as much as this thread might make it appear that I dont
I'll give it a try, as I frequently install software from AUR. In the past I think I let software from the AUR get outdated, Yaourt (clumsy name) sounds like it would help that a bit. Thanks!
Edit: BTW, I really love Arch. I tried it out on a flash drive about 8 months ago (maybe more), and after about 12 hours I was sold and installed it on the drive that Windows XP previously held. Even considering that I had many problems during the initial install, but they were all problems that caused me to learn and were easy to resolve. Seriously, I have lots of Windows tech experience, but only Arch forced me to learn Linux. I had tried Ubuntu previously but it was such a bore, and the problems tended to be hard to find solutions for. I try to convince my other Linux using friends to try arch, but they see it as too hands-on. I don't see it that way, it is very hands off after initial configuration, and the initial config only takes a week or less on the first try and a day and a half (or so) if you re-install. Having backups of your config files is of course a huge deal, and I am glad I had most of those.
Really, I love Arch Linux, it has taught me so much.

Script to grab packages from AUR

The following python script can be used to semi-automate the install process for packages in AUR. It could use a little work, especially the part that grabs the version.
To use it, first check in AUR to ensure the package exists, and that the PKGBUILD is not malicious or something you think will screw your system. AUR packages in unsupported CANNOT BE TRUSTED indiscriminantly.
Then run:
aurbuild packagename
If you are root, this will download, build, and install the package. If you are a user, it will only be downloaded and built. The script currently doesn't remove the build files and directory, which are created in the current directory.
I've only tested this with one package, so its probably buggy.

I thought you needed it for something else (to know which version you just made, but that info comes from the pkgbuild of course).
But as I said before, most packages don't have a file with a version number in their name, but some have. E.g. look at the following urls:
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ppracer/
With version, and only build files in the ppraces subdir.
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pptpclient/
No version info, like most packages.
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xerces-c/
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/acidrip/
Version info, and the binary included in the tar.gz and the subdir.
So it looks like there was a change in AUR at some point but existing packages weren't converted or something.

Deleting packages from AUR

Hello,
yesterday I saw a package in AUR that was included in another one in extra (python-editra, an editor included in wxpython). Since I made this mistake myself some time ago, I told the maintainer about this. He agreed to remove it and asked me how to do so.
To my surprise it is impossible to do so for a normal user not being a TU. I read about this on aur-general, but I missed any announcement about this change. Was it announced somewhere?
I told him either to write to aur-general to ask for removal or to put the request on the aur cleanup day list. What is the preferred way to ask for removals?
