Permissable content for photo books?

I am a professional photographer and am looking at making photo books through Apples service an option for some of their needs.
Some of the work that I may choose to include with an order would be art images (tasteful nudes).
Does anyone have a policy, guideline document or contact info to the 'service' so that I may inquire as to whether this sort of content is not something they wish to handle?
thank you.

  • HT4990 Why is there no option to create cards in the iPhoto app? It seems odd that they have options for photo book but no cards??

I just purchased the iPhoto app for the ipad. I was very disappointed that there is no place to create cards/post cards from the iPad itself. It really seems odd since they have options to make photo books but nothing for cards and prints?
Is there any other thing I can use to get this feature from the ipad itself?

There used to be the free Cards.app to create greeting cards, but is has been discontinued two month ago:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4990
Check out this list for alternatives - I have not tried any of them, however:  http://appadvice.com/applists/show/apps-for-sending-ecards

  • Converting photos to sRGB for photo book

    Hi everyone!
I'm very excited about my new photo books, and anxious to send them off, but I'm glad that I checked the discussions first. I noticed a few posts recommending users save their photos using sRGB as opposed to adobeRGB to prevent dark printing and other quality issues. I use Lightroom to catalog and edit all of my photos, and when I exported my selects and added them to the iPhoto library, I exported them as adobeRGB. Is there a way to change the photos to sRGB in iPhoto WITHOUT re-exporting from Lightroom? I'm concerned that if I change to sRGB in Lightroom and re-import to iPhoto that I will loose my many hours of hard work designing the photobooks. Will the books really turn out awful with adobe RGB?

I used Preview to change my photos to sRGB, and now they look pretty awful. Very desaturated and just, well, blah. Is this normal for sRGB? Should I now correct them using iPhoto? I even tried changing my monitor to the sRGB profile (I use a Spyder monitor calibrator) but that looked even worse. Perhaps I'm over-thinking this?

  • Best Image File Type & Size for Photo Books?

When you select your photos to be included in a Photo Book submission, is there a required file type and maximum size. Most of my images are presently Photoshop .psd files and TIFF files of substantial size -- around 2 to 4MB, that I will have to import into iPhoto '09. Thanks.

Interesting. Presently, all my image files are at 300 dpi.
Remember that DPI has no meaning for a digital file - digital files have only dots - the per inch part comes form the print size so until you select a print size you had only "d" - not "dpi" - that is a totally meaningless number
See +The Myth of DPI+ for more information
How exactly is print size determined in the photo books -- from your selection
Obviously from your selection - you place a photo into a frame and the frame size is the size
You may want to take the tutorial for more information - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/#books
or, whatever size results from the image resolution.
remember that images have no inherent size - they are just dots (pixels)
Is the ideal resolution 300 dpi? Thanks.
any image that will print at 180dpi or above will give good results (and will not get a resolution warning)

  • Using multiple themes for photo book

Is there a way that one can create a photo book using different "themes" throughout? Say if I want one page to be "Tropical" and another with "Modern"........is such modifications allowed? Thanks in advance.

The Print to PDF->Save PDF to iPhoto only creates a 200 dpi jpg image of each page. You can edit that Automator workflow and change the dip to 300, what iPhoto uses when it converts the book to pdf for uploading and printing. Or you can download an edited +Save PDF to iPhoto 300 DPI.workflow+ from Toad's Cellar and place it in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder.

  • Templates for photo books?

    Hi,
we want to do a photo book without using iphoto.
    - can we export hires pdf's from pages 08?
    - are there any templates available to do books for pages08?
    Thanks for your help
    R

Yes you can export hires pdfs from Pages 08. Select:
    +Menu > File > Export > PDF > Best+
Make sure you have enough resolution (300dpi) in the original image, at the size you are printing.
For templates look on the following sites:
    http://www.iworkcommunity.com/
    http://www.jumsoft.com/pages/
    http://www.stocklayouts.com/Products/Apple/Apple-iWork-Pages-Template-Design.asp x
    http://www.keynotepro.com/index.html
    http://oegf.co.uk/
    http://www.digmo.co.uk/software/apple-pages-templates/
There are others search for them.
A suggestion would be, if you like Apple's iPhoto photobooks, to print out one of these to a .pdf file and use this to layout a similar template in Pages. Or any other layout you fancy.

  • Is iPhoto comparable to Picaboo (Windows) for photo books?

Hello... I am a Windows user who is considering switching to a MacBook Pro laptop, and am currently investigating which of my software is available for the Mac. One product I use to create printed photo books is called Picaboo. I like the ease of creating books with this software but in particular I like the quality of the photobooks. Since I have never used a Mac, I would like to know if the quality of the books is good, and if the process of creating the books is "user-friendly." Thank you!

    kmrunner:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It's hard to say as the perceived quality is a user thing. If there's an Apple Store near you take one of your books in and compare it to the display book they should have. (Call them in advance to save yourself a trip if they don't).
I've liked what I got in the large, hardcover books. They are family orientated books and were excellent for the intended use. Can't say as much for the medium sized books. They had a halftone pattern that was visible to the naked eye under good illumination. Again, they were satisfactory for the intended use, a memory book of an outing with the grandkids.
If you the the MBP and are not happy with the iPhoto books you could run Windows on it with Parallels just to use Picaboo. But that will mean using a good amount of disk space for Windows, etc. just for that one application. Something you'll have to weight the pros and cons of.
The book creation process is very easy in my estimation. I do have a suggestion if you do come over to the "light" side and that's to create a separate iPhoto Library for each book so you can save that library folder to disk in case you want to order another copy at a later date. Apple doesn't keep the file on had for use in ordering other copies, at least not at this time. But that's something you can consider after you get up and running with the MBP. Good luck and hope to see you here later.
Another tip: wait until the MacWorld Expo is over or nearly over to buy if you're going to buy. Then you'll be assured of the newest software, installed on the MBP as the Expo is usually the time they release the newest version of iLife and others.
    Do you Twango?

  • HT1880 I edit in Photoshop, for Photo Books.  Should I use CMYK or RBG?  8 bits or 16?

I edit in Photoshop for my IPhoto books.  Should I use CMYK or RBG for best color?  8 bits, 16, or 32?

This may be preaching to the choir but here are some tips on using PS or PSE from within iPhoto as the external editor:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note 1: screenshots are from PSE 10
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Looking for photo book with 'pocket'

Hi: I'm making a baby book, and want to include items like the footprints and possibly birth certificate. I don't want to just scan them. Does iPhoto have a book that has a 'pocket' or 'sleeve' option so that other documents can be inserted? If not ... does anyone? Thanks!

  • Delivery time for photo book

Hi, I want to order a photobook for a special occasion and can't find out how long it will take from order to delivery? Anyone know? I live in the Uk and want the book before mid Feb.
    Ta.

Hi, I bought my imac in December and have ordered about ten books so far. Delivery is very quick. They seem to arrive within a week or ten days. Much quicker than Photobox, and I'm really impressed by the quality.
However, don't leave ordering til the last minute, just in case you need to make an amendment and get it re-printed!
And it's worth printing off a pdf proof so you can check and re-check for typos.
