Hi,
I have a problem with my /home directory. It has no write permissions and I can't change that. The owner of the directory is root but even if login as root I can't change the permissions for the /home directory. When looking at the properties for the /home directory in the File Manager it says that the file is a NON_WRITABLE_FOLDER. When trying to remove the directory I get a message saying that the "Directory is a mount point or in use".
Does anyone know what I have to do to be able to change the permissions of the /home directory.

I have had no helpful response from the enquiries I made here, through the copntact us web form, or through any bt twitter accounts that i can find.
Yesterday i spoke to someone in billing called Gill who was very helpful. she told me that my broadband has been disconnected due to an error made by BT. She seemed to be tracking down the problem and provided me with a number of updates yesterday afternoon. However i have no way of getting in contact with her, and she has not contacted me since yesterday afternoon.
I am now on hold again, and have been for 30 minutes.
To summarise where I am now: I still have no broadband, I have been told this is because of "an error at BT", and I still don't know when it is likely to be restored. Any avenue of communication I have tried with BT has resulted in little to no progress, and as far as I can tell there is nobody in the organisation taking responsibility for restoring my broadband service.
How do I get this problem resolved in a reasonable time frame? No progress in 3 days is not reasonable customer service!

Same problem happened to me. Go to Music (on windows). Then to iTunes folder. Right click on "iTunes Library". Properties. Then click on security tab. Where it says "To change Permissions, click edit" Click Edit. Then under "Permissions for system" Check the box for Full Control ALLOW. Click Apply. Then run iTunes it should work.

Have you tried to sign out of Facebook in iPhoto and to start over? Remove your Facebook account from the iPhoto Preferences > Accounts panel. Select Facebook and press the "-" button.
Quit iPhoto, make sure, your Facebook albums no longer do show, then add the Facebook account again by pressing "+".
Then try to publish your albums again. If there are still problems, try LarryHN's user tip.
A solution to FaceBook posting issues
In the long run, it is much simpler, to export your albums from iPhoto to the Desktop and to upload them from your Facebook page. This way, you will avoid all the problems caused by syncing the albums between your iPhoto library and Facebook.

How can I trust Firefox as a reliable web browser when you allow companys like Microsoft install plugins like Windows Presentation Foundation with out permissio

Microsoft had installed Windows Presentation Foundation without my permission and I smoking mad. This is bull crap I don't need. My web browser is personal to me and when companies stick their dirty little fingers in my computer without my permission it really PISS ME OFF. "The folder "iTunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder." Thats the error I have been getting recently. So I go on my pc after like 3 days of not using it, and all of a sudden I am getting the error in my title when I open itunes. I tried re installing- nothing. I googled this problem and tried EVERYTHING they said... making it not read only, allowing everyone to have permission... etc... Can someone please help! I am running windows 7 64bit. thank you!

On the permission thing, you say you have done this, but just to double check, the account you are using needs to have full control of the iTunes folder.

If you account does have full control of the iTunes folder, try a shift key start.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes, keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose a library.
Navigate to your iTunes folder and choose iTunes Library.itl.

Oracle Discoverer unable to open the workbook due to insufficient Permissio

I have an error message when I try to open a workbook with some worksheet.
( It's working fine with only one Worksheet)

Well here's how it's supposed to work.
Step 1: Create workbook A with 5 reports (5 worksheets)
Step 2: Go into Disco Admin and make sure each business area where the folder(s) referred to in the step 1 can be seen by each user you're sharing the workbook with (security). For example, if worksheet 1 accesses business area: GL_Stuff, then security on GL_Stuff must be with all 5 users you'll share the report with.
Step 3. Share workbook A with the 5 users (via Plus or Desktop where you created the workbook).
Step 4. All users can see and run the workbook / worksheet.
Questions:
1. I don't know what you mean in your Step 3. There's no permissions at this point. What you do is give read to ALL tables / views, etc. to the owner of the EUL. Then either the owner of the EUL (or another user who has been given admin privs) controls security to other roles via the Tools-> Security window in Admin.
2. Are you 5 worksheets based on the same business area or are they going to different business areas. No problem if going to different ones, but you must make sure security for sharing with the other users / roles is for each business area they will be using to retrieve data from the folder and therefore the underlying view / table / sql statement.

How can I allow users to change an image on my site?

I have user log ins/permissios set up. However, the flashing GIF image in the top left that says "current net status," I want logged in users to be able to land on a page, have something like a drop down box or something that has different options like "Blue, Green, Yellow, Red" so when they click the image they want, click submit, it changes it on the site. I'm not sure what kind of script I would use.

Multiple Oracle databases on Single host

Hi Gurus,
I am new to SAP World. We are planning to install multiple SAP systems (ECC/BW/SRM/XI) on a single host with Oracle 11.2.0.2. As per SAP instguide, the Oracle RDBMS software should be owned by ora<SID>:dba. So we are planning to install the oracle software for the first dev system ERD under 'oraerd:dba' id. And the next will be under 'orabwd:dba' and the third under 'orasrd:dba'.
My questions is, instead of having multiple ORACLE_HOME's owned by individual id's, can I have one consolidated Oracle_Home owned by 'oracle:dba' which then controls all the oracle db's and its datafiles.
I know there is a SAP Note to do this for Oracle RAC (prd is being planned this way), but can we do the same for Single instance also.

Technically, there's no restriction to configure your system, by this way. But from SAP point of view; at the first step, because the the installation is not completed as referred by SAP installation guide, you will not able to get support by SAP. For the instance, if you face with a problem during the productive, SAP may not support your installation.
Secondly, you may face with the problems at the database upgrades and applying patches. For example, you need to stop all the databases when you decided to patch one of them.
I can count many restrictions about this issue. As a summary, from technical way, it is possible to have one Oracle home, but it is strongly recommended to have different Oracle home folders for each Oracle installation.

Error in Archive & Install and PB not booting now.

I have a PB G4 with OSX Tiger 10.4.11.
After doing an auto-update of QT, there was a "shared library error" that prevented me from opening word, excel....I decided to perform Archive & Install.
The installation process was going well until a message appeared saying "Please try installing again".
I restarted my computer and got to "Select a destination volume to install the Mac OS X software" screen only to find that there was no destination listed to select. Earlier there was "Macintosh HD" but now there was nothing.
On opening Disk Utility I got to a window that had four discs listed in the left-hand column of the window. These were:
a)74.5 GB TOSHIBA MK8026GAX
b)Macintosh HD (in light grey colour which shows that it is inactive)
c)4.0 GB MATSHITA DVD-R Uj-845E Media
d)Mac OS X Install Disc 1
Under the "First Aid" tab in the main column I selected 74.5 GB TOSHIBA MK8026GAX and clicked "verify". It gave an error message: "Invalid node structure. The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired. The underlying task reported failure on exit. 1 HFS Checked Volume needs repair."
Then I selected Macintosh HD & selected "repair" & got the following error message:
Invaild node structure. Rebuilding Catalogue B-tree. The volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired. Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit. 1 HFS volume checked. 1 volume could not be repaired because of an error. Repair attempted on 1 volume. 1 volume could not be repaired.
The other two tabs, "Verify disk permissios" & "Repair disk permissions" were inactive all the time.
I even clicked on "Mount" when the "Macintosh HD" was selected. That gave the following message: "The disk Macintosh HD could not be mounted. Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting."
Now when I switch on my PB:
a)If I DON'T have the installation disc1 inside the mac…it just gets to the grey screen with apple in the centre and after 2-3 minutes it switches off automatically.
b)If I HAVE the installation disc1 inside the mac then it gets to the basic installation screen telling me to select language and continue which further leads to the select destination screen with no destination to select.
Does anyone have any idea what’s going on with my mac? All I did was an auto-update of QT 7.2 to 7.3.1.
Please help.

Let's begin with HDD space. A too full HDD is an invitation to disaster. As I noted previously, you should have a mimimum of 5 GB free space for virtual memory, swap files and whatever you are working on for OS X to function efficiently. A too full HDD can lead to directory issues, as you learned, data loss and an eventual HDD crash. Dr. Smoke's FAQ Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space gives more info on this. Dr. Smoke's FAQ Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk has excellent suggestions to clear some of the clutter. In addition, you may be well advised to consider a larger internal HDD, and, if you do not already have one, to initiate a backup strategy. Dr. Smoke's FAQ Backup and Recovery offers helpful suggestions. If you have questions about any of these please do post back.
Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System maintenance and Macintosh OS X Routine Maintenance are excellent resources of OS maintenance. Look them over and post back with any questions that arise.

Windows 8.1 can not access apps after using Disk Clean-up

All was working well until I did a Disk Clean-up, now no apps from the Metro Start screen will load I just get a transparent icon holder on the Taskbar. I have tried uninstall the app which was Calendar I was allowed to uninstall but when I tried to re-install
I just get error 0x80070005, after check lots of forums and Microsoft technet articles and all seem to point Windows Store being damaged or corrupted, I have run all the fixes but note work, when I run AppsDiagnostic.diagcab I just get [Service Registration
is missing or corrupt] [Windows Store cache may be damaged] [Windows Store configuration may be damaged] I have now run out of what to try next. Can anyone help before I lose all my hair.

First of all, please run "dism/online/cleanup-image/restorehealth"to check the health of the system files. Then take the following steps to have a check.
1. We can run “wsreset.exe” to reset the cache of Windows Store as S.Sengupta suggested to have a check .
2. If the issue persists ,try this way to re-register the Windows Store to recover the entry of Windows Store :
Right click on the “Start screen” , choose “Command prompt(Admin)”and in-put :
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.XML
3. If the issue persists ,kill Store and Store Broker from task manager . Rename the Cache folder to CacheOld at. C:\Users/(Your User Account)\AppData\Local\Packages\WinStore_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\LocaalState.
Rename folder called Cache into CacheOld, Create an empty folder with name Cache. That’s all. If you want to revert changes just delete Cache and Rename CacheOld into Cache.
" 0x80070005" means access denied .Considering the store app is downloaded from the windows update .Please refer to the following link to gain the permissios of the registry keys to have a check.

Quicktime wont open and is also preventing microsoft apps from opening

after doing an autoupdate to QT 7.2, there is a "shared library error" that prevents me from opening word, entourage... i have tried to fix this, but its made it worse and now the QT wont run either. is there a way that i can uninstall all the QT on my hard drive and reinstall from scratch? and will this fix the shared library problem?
when i look to see what version QT i have it says 7.3, but it wont open and i have also try to download it again and that doesnt work either.

Impossible to save an image in applet?

I have been working on saving an image in Java applet for a week. But I failed to generate new image file on the disk. I'm using Java SDK1.4.0_03 and JAI 1_1_1_01. I found a topic "JAI TIFF Encoding Problem" mentioned that it should give permission to the Applet. I'm wondering if my problem is caused by the permission of Applet. But how to change the permissio of Applet? Otherwise is it impossible to save the image in Applet? Thanks your replay.

My brand new illustrator cs5 keeps crashing my mac osx 10.7.2 ???

I have recently purchased the Adobe creative suite 5.5 design standard student and teachers edition. Every time I try to use Adobe Illustrator it freezes when I try to save a document, I can't even force quit the program so I need to shut down my whole computer ?? I am running Lion on a new imac osx 10.7.2
Can someone please help or at least tell me how to get help from Adobe I'm utterly confused !!

Try these steps
1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS5.1 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
Then Repair the Permissions using the Disk Utility in the Applications/Utilities folder.
Last part is important.
It sounds like the permissios to a directory has been unintentionally set to read only.
You might have to repair find and repair it manually.
It could be one of your hard drives or partition or a folder and probably it is somewhere along the path leading to the location at which you are trying to save your files.
