Permission Denied on Solaris 10 NFS share, shared trough Windows Server 2008R2

Hello,
We have a NFS share on Windows Server 2008 R2 setup the following way,
NTFS permissions for ANONYMOUS LOGON and Everyone groups are set to Full control.
When mounting this share on our Solaris workstation, it mounts and we can view files in that mount but cannot edit or write to it.
mount -f nfs 10.0.0.2:/Folder/ /test
permissions are set as:
drwxrwxrwx 2 nobody nobody 4096 Mar 4 08:57 test/
when in test direcorie, trying to copy a file gives this error:
cp gp.txt gp_1.txt
cp: cannot create gp_1.txt: Permission denied
Please help,
Thanks

Hi,
Is there any error message in the Event Log on Windows Server 2008 R2? Please try to install the hotfix in the KB article below.

  • Windows Server 2008r2 Printer Sharing

    Hi folks,
I have a Windows Server 2008r2 set up as my workstation and I'd like to share the printer with my wife's MacBook. I've set up Printing Services on WS2008r2 and enabled IPP, LPD and everything else I could think of.
The printer sharing works, our other laptop which is Win7 can use it normally, but setting up the share on a Mac is a whole new kettle of fish.
I couldn't get it to connect via IPP, Mac keeps insisting on port 631 even though IPP is running on port 80 here. I have no idea what to put into the address field, if I copy/paste the URL the Mac doesn't recognise it. If I just put in the server name it's happy but insists on connecting to port 631.
Next came LPD which seems to work, Mac connects to the server and picks up the printer. Which brings me to the next problem. If I use standard generic postscript driver then nothing happens, printer gets switched on on the server and stops. An event log entry reports an LPD error:
"The Line Printer Daemon (LPD) service received commands in an invalid format from 192.168.2.106 and refused the print job. This can occur if the Line Printer Remote (LPR) client is incompatible with the Windows LPD service and Request for Comments (RFC) 1179. Try printing using a different LPR client."
The printer is a Canon Pixma iP5200R. If I switch the printer options from generic postscript to a Canon printer it will print but it only uses about 60% of the space, so everything is shrunk on the page. It does print the full content of the page, just makes everything smaller. I managed to get this far by selecting one of the BJC (Bubblejet) models from the drop-down list.
I've installed Canon's driver for iP5200 from their site but it's not available anywhere on the Mac. How do I tell the Mac to use a different driver?
I feel I'm getting close to fixing this, but now the problem is in Macland and I'm not too familiar with it.
Anyone got any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

I'm going to apologize first because I don't have a real solution and my post will sound negative, but my experience may give some insight.
My experience is that Apple didn't get Windows printing "done right" until 10.5. Prior to that, I could never print to a Canon S800 printer attached to a Vista Ultimate machine. With the printer attached to a XP machine, I could print, but it would often fail. (Just no output and OSX saying printer was offline.) This was with a G3 B&W with 10.3 and a iMac with 10.4. And like you, I did try the IPP and LPD settings but just never got a usable setup.
Then I got a Macbook Pro with 10.5. Printing worked fine straight out of the box to the same S800 printer on Vista. Mac Mini with 10.5 worked also. Upgraded both to 10.6 and printing still works. Even a clean reload of 10.6 on the Macbook, Windows printing is fine. Also to a Epson R280 attached to the same Vista machine.
Windows 2008, having more in common with Vista and Win7, I'd guess that you may be having similar issues to me. I don't know of any fix, other than 10.5. If you have a friend with a newer Mac, then you can test it. (Otherwise, if you can upgrade your Mac to 10.5 or 10.6. But testing with a friend's Mac would save the cost of buying an OSX upgrade if it didn't work.)
Like I said, no real solution, other than possibly upgrading to 10.5/10.6. So maybe just a pointer to a different line of thinking. Good luck!

  • What are share point server 2013 & Share point Designer 2013 & Office 365 & Yammer & Share point 2013 & Windows server 2008 server & Windows Server 2012 Server Data Center?

    I need some clarifications.
What are share point server 2013 & Share point Designer 2013 & Office 365 & Yammer & Share point 2013 & Windows server 2008 server & Windows Server 2012 Server Data Center? How each them are related in collaboration system?
Is Share point server 2013 and Share pointer Designer 2013 available in 32bit version? If not, then how to use it in 32 bit machine by using any VMs?
    Thanks
    Senthil

    SharePoint Server 2013:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-sharepoint-collaboration-software-FX103479517.aspx
    SharePoint Designer 2013:
Designer is used to develop SharePoint pages using HTML/CSS/JS as well as SharePoint Designer Workflows
    Yammer:
    https://about.yammer.com/
Windows Server is Windows, but the Server OS. SharePoint runs on top of supported Windows Servers editions (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx).
SharePoint Server is 64-bit only (trial:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/hh973397.aspx), although Designer does have a 32-bit edition (full product:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35491).
You will need the capability to run 64bit VMs. Minimum recommended all-in-one VM for SharePoint is to allocate 24GB of RAM, but you can get away with as little as 12GB (I wouldn't go below that). Because of this, it generally rules out 32bit OSes as a virtual
    machine host.

You'll probably want to add -Djava.awt.headless=true to JVM's options. If that doesn't work: what is your Java version?
Or if you have a graphics card on the weblogic server, you could experiment with hardware-accelerated Java graphics. But that's another story.

  • Permission denied when saving from applications on shared volume

We have an AFP shared volume on Xraid attached to an Xserve running 10.5.8. The OS is kept up to date.
Users started to get a "permission denied" message when trying to save open files on the shared volume, which is using POSIX permissions only. This seems to happen to Snow Leopard clients using Pages and Numbers (iLife 09). No errors appear in the server logs.
At the moment they can circumvent the problem by saving locally and then copying the file onto the server.
Has anyone got any pointer to a solution?
    Thanks.

Of course I meant iWork, not iLife.

  • Adding NFS Share to Mountain Lion Server

    Alright, here goes.
The company I work for has been using SL server for years and wanted to test a possible upgrade to ML server for NFSv4. Downloaded ML to test machine and ML server. I mounted it via server connector (nfs://blah blah..you get the idea) volume that I want to share comes up on desktop but will not show under the server app. I also have access to posix but I need full access to acl as well.
I'm trying to figure out how to access this NFS share so that I can share it from the server but cannot seem to get it working. To those who know OSX servers I probably sound like a moron, but I'm just an I.T. guy tasked with setting up a test server even though I'm not a "server guy". Any information would be greatly appreciated.
One more question. Would a migration from SL to ML server also bring along this volume? Thanks again.

I upgraded today and had the same issue. I took following steps to fix my computer.
Boot into Recovery Partition (Hold Option Button while booting)
    Open Terminal.
    Type resetpassword
    Select your hard drive
    Select the user account (Administrator)
Enter a new password for the user
    Reenter password
    Save
    Restart
Boot normally, Login as Adminstrator with the new password and add "Admin" permission to your account.
    Restart
Everything should be working as expected

  • I cant access the root share of a windows server after upgrading to mountain lion

    Hi Guys,
Since upgrading to mountain lion i cant access the shared drives on our windows server. For example in a windows machine if i go to run the type \\server\ i get all the visible shares available. in my previous version i was able to do the same (obviously i would authenticate with my AD account). now when i try to access those same shares i get the message below:
"The operation cant be completed becuase the original item for "/" cant be found"
I can however connect to the shares directly for example if i connect to server path \\server\data it works ok.
I have verified my account details and they are ok - i have also disconnected and reconnected the connection.
This was working fine before the upgrade. can anyone help??

well iv just managed to get to 35 gig free (just deleting iphone backups) and im now able to get past the next screen on bootcamp.
unfortunatly its only allowing me to create a new partition not delete the current.
this is leading me to think the old ones master partition has become damaged and the hard drive dosent know it exists any more.
if this is the case (please tell me im wrong though) what options do i have as i dont want to / have the money to buy another hard drive to back everything up to it with.
    thanks again

    Hi
    thanks to you both
but when we install windows server as host there is not our windows in the
Internet\Network and sharing center\ ....... and in the file explorer > network
I found it when I add server host in server manager in guest server and manage it as host server user and then share files and folders from computer management and then create a shortcut from the share folder to desktop
and the did same for guest ... add guest server in server manager in the host server and manage it as guest server user and then share it's files and folders from the computer management and create a shortcut of share folder to desktop
if host windows be a client windows so this is so easy because after we install hyper-v win-server and go to file explorer > network > so we able to see both windows and all files and folders there but if host windows be a win-server we can't see them
    in file explorer > network
    thanks you both again

  • Mac Pro accessing SMB shares on a windows server. After being left on all night, the MP gets "file unavailable" messages when opening files on the share.

Windows Server 2003 accessed by several PCs and Macs without previous incident.  This one Mac Pro after it's been left on all night (running jobs, or just left idle), and a user tries to reconnect to an SMB share, can go to Finder, Go, Connect to Server, enter the Server info as normal, login as normal, view the directories and files as normal, but as soon as they try to open anything they are given one of the following messages:
"Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example, \ /). (<filename>)" - when opening a word document
"<filename> could not be found.  Check the spelling of the file name and verify that the file location is correct.  If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted." - when opening an excel spreadsheet
Note that these messages are popping up AFTER the user has double-clicked on them to open them.  So the files are certainly there and correctly named (and contain only letters, numbers and underscores).  After restarting the Mac Pro, the error messages are gone and the files can be accessed without problem. Would like it so that they can connect to the server without having to restart every day.

  • How do I set access to the same network share on a Windows server for multiple users on an iMac (school set-up) in Lion 10.7.3?

We've got them authenticating/binding with AD (after hours of troubleshooting to get working), and their Home drive on the Windows 2003 server loads in the dock, but they also want to be able to load the same network shares on the server e.g. "Students$" for every student that logs onto the iMac.  I realise without Lion server we can't control it by group, but if we could at least set it up consistently for the students that would be a great start.
    Thanks.

When you install you get the opportunity to install it for "All Users".
It sounds like you have a demo version on your Mac however, you need to delete it:

  • Automatically list NFS shares under SHARED in Finder

Hi, I created an Automator workflow to mount NFS shares from a linux server. After executing the skript, the shares will be listed under SHARED in the Finder. Is there a way to automatically detect the NFS shares on the server to list it in the Finder without executing the Automator skript on every startup?

It should be possible to do so using an [Avahi service|http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Avahi#NFS]. I'm using a similar service for my [netatalk/AFP share to show up in Finder|http://www.disgruntled-dutch.com/2007/general/how-to-get-your-linux-base d-afp-server-to-show-up-correctly-in-leopards-new-finder]. It says in the article that this doesn't work 10.5 onwards but links to an article with a [workaround|http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071116042238744]. I hope that this will be helpful.

  • Error mounting NFS share - mount.nfs: Operation not permitted

I've got an NFS share on a FreeBSD server which I mount via fstab.
It mounts automatically at boot and everything is fine.
However, if I unmount it and try to mount it again I get:
    mount.nfs: Operation not permitted
I have tried vers=3 and nfsvers=3 in fstab, but to no avail.
    rpcbind is allowed in /etc/hosts.allow.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    fstab entry:
    server:/path/to/files /mnt/files nfs ro,hard,intr,nfsvers=3 0 0

Tagging along, I have the same problem, although I have a different setup:
    - Server = Arch linux
    - Client1 = Debian Testing linux
    - Client2 = Arch linux
On client1, I'm unable to mount all NFS-shares. 2 out of 3 mount ok and the third fails with this error (both through fstab and manually):
    # mount -a
mount.nfs4: access denied by server while mounting (null)
On Client2 I'm able to connect automatically and manually to all shares.
Maybe it is Debian-related, but the debian user forums have not been of much help...
    THX for any input!
