Permission Don't Hold

We are a small design group (10 users) using a Dual 1.25 G4 Server running OS X Server 10.4.4.
The permissions on the server are set:
Admin: Read and Write
Group: Read and Write (all users are part of the group)
Everyone: Read and Write
(Clearly, security isn't a big issue).
I would expect that we can all copy to the server, pull files from the server, save over files, delete, etc. It seems that the settings don't stick ... if a user copies a file from their machine to the server, they become the owner.
Every day I propagate the permissions which seems to solve the problem.
Is their a something on individual users' computers that affects the permissions on the server?
Any ideas?

You don't give any other settings info, so please excuse the following if they do not apply...
1. Do not make a whole disk a share point (in case you have a second disk). Create a folder inside a disk and then share that folder (using Workgroup Manager).
2. Do not 'nest' share points.
3. Set AFP protocol to "inherit permissions from parent". If you have changed anything mentioned above, then 'propagate' as well.
4. Even under "inherit" permissions, the owner will ALWAYS be set to the creator of the file/directory, however the group will be inherited and it is the group which you should focus on when designing permission structures.
5. It should work the way you expect it to. Honest.

Why don't Hold keyframes work on Audio Level?

Hi -
In the past (AE6.5) I recall using Hold frames to keep the Audio Level really low until the exact frame I wanted to bring it up to 0db. Now in CS4 the Hold keyframes don't work that way. I wind up using lots of extra keyframes and sliced up layers. It's pretty messy.
For example I have a narration where I have to replace one word in the center of a sentence.
Is there a setting somewhere or, is there a new way to adjust audio levels quickly besides using key frames that someone could tell me about??
Why don't Hold keyframes work on Audio levels anymore??

In AE Preferences I have "Audio Hardware" but no mention of QT. It's currently set on "Built-in Output".
Under "Output" I have an Audio Block Duration set at 01:00.
In QT preferences there is nothing about hardware acceleration or buffer duration.
Are any of these related to what you suggest?

Setting times for appointments don't hold to time zone

When I set up my appointments in pacific time and leave for Houston for the appointments the times don't hold for Houston tx time? Help

I think you are saying you set, for example, a 2PM Pacitic Time appointment, and when you get to Houston, you would like it to show up at 4PM Central Time.
Do that by:
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Time Zone Support = "Off"

Transitions don't hold

I make a transition and it runs smoothly from one clip to the next, But THEN, I edit something on that clip OR anoter clip, the transition dosen't work. It only goes from end to other end of the clip and stops!!! I have tried longer transitions, I have click on set
Any ideas on how make the transition hold?
And another thing is there a way to tone down the backlighting on a person?

Hi jasons - Of course I don't consider you an idiot! It's all not as simple and obvious as Apple would lead everyone to believe. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with the programme, especially once you get your head around its quirks and peculiarities - and a few bugs as well!

Pageflow variable values don't hold between two ajax requests

I have pageflow application(Portal) where I have implemented typeAhead(like google suggest with AJAX) for two select boxes. Here I have to inform the server of the firstbox value after it is selected(with AJAX) to save it in pageflow variable so that for next request(while typing in second select box), the corresponding select option data determined by first selection has to be returned. But I see that pagflow doesn't hold values between subsequent ajax requests.But as per BEA Pageflow description values are retained till the end of session.
Does it have anything to do with the ajax requests which are not normal HTTP browser requests? Plz any suggestions are welcome.

I know that you said, because I did some ABAP programs and some ABAP reports of the bussiness process of Collateral Objects, with information of these tables and when I tried get information, I did something like you said, or I assigned cms_ast-object_ref_id to a variable, and this varible I converted to the same type of the other field and find the match or join between the tables(cms_movables, cms_ast).
The problem is not when I do an ABAP program. The problem is:
(BO)Business Objects needs to get some information about these tables to do some reports, but BO has not the tools or the capacity to convert fields, as well as ABAP. BO gets information directly of the tables of database.
The posible solution to this problem is that I can create a job and a program, which function is replicate the information of cms_ast and insert on a "z" table or get the relation between to tables (cms_movables and cms_ast) and insert on a "z" table. These can help BO to get information, because BO instead of get information of this tables (cms_movables, cms_ast) , now get information of the table z and then get and join with other tables.
The principal problem is that BO get information online, with these the job which run the program need to be run minute per minute. and I think that it is not the best practice, because all the tables are some scalables.
I think that my program could be better, how can I catch a INSERT event on table cms_ast, to convert the fields, and insert on a "z" tables
Or anybody have an idea, how can i solve these problems?

User font preferences don't hold

I see that back in September, another Brooklynite posted about this problem that I have always had for iChat (right now v.429, but has always been a problem for me). http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1024102&#1024102
Basically, my default user settings have the font set to Helvetica 12pt FRACTIONS of all things! So my messages, incoming and outgoing, are complete gobblety-gook. I have managed to set the incoming messages to a different font, which seems to hold (thank god), but the outgoing won't change. MADDENING! Especially when saving transcripts for business is important. Any ideas?

HI Caltlin,
The solution is to disable Helvetica Fractions from the whole system with Font Book.
Helvetica fractions has been a problem for some Apple Applications for a while.
If the Font is not acitve on the MAc then iChat will not be ale to use it for Incoming or Outgoing Text messages.

GWTuner Deployment Settings Don't Hold

I made a GW2012 SP2 deployment bundle for Zenworks with the GWTuner application, in which I removed the document integration component of GroupWise with applications such as Office. The bundle is typically deployed by my ENGL Imaging Toolkit as systems are being imaged by an account with local administrative rights, I have a hybrid eDir/AD environment. After imaging is completed I'm finding that if I log in as a user with local Administrative rights the document integration feature of GroupWise is disabled as I expect, but when I sign in as a standard user who is not a local machine administrator the feature is installed and active. How is this possible if I told the installer not to even include the feature in my installation? Thank you.

Are you upgrading older clients or pushing new clients?
Windows installer will usually respect the previous installation. so if the
integrations were active it will usually not remove them, same for language
of installation.
If you use the Install.bat file located in the client\win32 file to start
the installation you can create 2 environment variables.
GW_INST_TRANSFORM_FILE value of groupwise.mst (default name that the gwtuner
will create)
GW_INST_REMOVE_MSI value = True. This will remove the previous installation
and when the client is installed again will accept the configuration
changes,.
The install.bat will also copy customization registry keys so that they can
be pushed back in after the installis done...say for address book columns,
etc...

Rendered effects don't hold on Restart CS4

I opened a CS3 project in CS4 off an external hard drive. It came up fine but I had to rerender all files as expected and of course it generated all new peak files. But when I saved the project and later reopened it - all renders were gone - the red unrendered line was back and the project immediately starting creating peak files again. I tried this numerous times - any ideas? - thanks.

Is it possible you have write behind caching enabled for the external drive and that, as a result, some data is lost (eg renders) when closing down ?
In other words, if you close a project and re-open without powering down anything, renders are OK. But if you power down the external drive and then try again after re-powering, the renders are lost.
If so, it's likely to be a caching issue. Worth trying with write behind caching disabled

Monitor preferences don't hold when changing users or restarting

After upreading to Maverics my 4 monitor screens are all mirrored and at the wrong resolution. I have to reset them in sys prefs each time I log in or out or restart. This is a major PITA!

Notifications preferences don't hold

Small annoyance here, but when I change my notifications preference from banners to alerts, they revert back to banners after restart. Anyone else having that issue?

Here are the instructions I got from AppleCare from an Apple Engineer. I'm not sure if the fix was specifically for my machine or if it'll work for someone else. Follow at your own risk.
1. Open the Library folder in your Home folder.
2. In the Library folder, open the Application Support folder.
3. Locate the folder named NotificationCenter. Drag this folder to the desktop.
4. Next, open the Terminal application.
Copy and paste each line of these commands into the Terminal window, in order. Press return after each line:
cd `getconf DARWIN_USER_DIR`
rm -rf com.apple.notificationcenter
killall usernoted; killall NotificationCenter
5. Close the Terminal app.
6. Restart your computer.
The notification preference changes won't stick until you restart a 2nd time after this.

My links don't hold formatting in auto-overflow?

I've formatted a targeted css code for my div links. I've also set this div to have auto overflow. However, once there is overflow text, all the formatting for my links disappear (they become the default underlined blue links).

I have an iPhone 4S I have done the recent update 6.1 and now my App Store is not working when I go into the feature tab I get an error " too many HTTP redirects" how do I fix this ? The other tabs are working and it is working on my iPad also

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

My MacBook Pro 13in Mid-2010 won't start unless I hold the power button for about 10 seconds! Help Please!

I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch (mid-2010):
Processor: 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4GB 1067 Mhz DDR3
Running Mac OS X 10.7.2
Yesterday I opened my computer (was sleeping as usual) and the screen just flasehed white and the computer powered off. The magnetic electricity thingy was connected and was green, so it was fully charged, and connected to the electricity.
Since it powered off, I tried turning it on again, and again, one second after starting to boot up, screen flashed white and the computer powered off.
I read somewhere I should hold down the power button longer, so I did, and it booted up. That's why I am able to write this. But every time I turn it off or put it to sleep, it does the same thing when I boot up.
If I don't hold the power button for 10 seconds or so, the computer won't work.
Then today, I did a backup of my entie hard drive, just in case. Later, I started using Excel, and about 1 hour after I was on it, suddenly it got really slow. Like I would click on a program like Safari, and it would take over 30-45 secs to start and be ready. And my computer is usually really fast!
I went on the Internet again, started in safe mode, boot up with option+command+P+R to reset PRAM, and nothing worked. Then suddenly on one turn-off/turn-on (since I can't restart because the computer only starts if I hold the power button for 10 seconds), again it is working at normal speed.
What can this be? Any ideas?

Are you running the Apple-supplied RAM? Have you run Apple Hardware Test? I don't know what else you've tried, but this may be time to do a fresh install of Lion if you have not done so since installing Lion.

You can't downgrade the iOS.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

TS1398 I can no longer connect to my home wireless on my ipad2, have done all the suggested fixes, still cannot connect. Daughter cannot connect her iPod, but husbands laptop is connected to wireless.

All of a sudden my ipad will not connect to our home wireless. I have reset the wireless settings, turned my ipad off and back on, turned off wireless and back on, basically have done all of the fixes suggested and still I cannot connect. My daughter cannot connect her iPod either, but my husbands laptop can and is connected to our wireless. The wireless is working and until two days ago I had no problems connecting.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
