Permission error in opening word 7file in acrobat pro

I can create a pdf from within word 7 but can't open the file from within acrobat pro 9.  When I sent the document in they said it wasn't run through distiller.  When I open distiller and open the file I get a non-standard error, content flushed, no output.  My word 7 documents are saved as  docx - do they have to be post script??  I'm totally confused with acrobat. I've read the help files - but when I follow the instructions nothing changes.  I don't have any passwords or permissions set - why does it say I don't have permission to open the file?  I'm the only person using this computer and program.  I bought this program specifically to "distill" my word files and can't seem to figure out how to do that.
Thanks!

I submitted an acrobat pdf from the pdfmaker in word.  Was told it didn't look like it had been distilled.  I think I'm pretty clear now on the extent of the pdfs and the distill is to ensure everything is print ready. I naively thought a pdf was a pdf and it took everything and"boxed" it so it printed out on the other end just like it did on my end.
Let me see if I'm following you now.  I prepare a document in word 7.  Print it to the adobe pdf printer.  When it opens in acrobat, ctrl D  gives me the information.....acrobat distiller 9.2.0, PScript 5.dll ver5.2.2.  This document has been "distilled", right? As opposed to the same document  made into a pdf by using the acrobat pdf maker in word.  When I open it in acrobat, ctrl D gives me this information.....Acrobat pdf maker 9.1 for Word,  Adobe pdf library 9.0, pdf version 1.5.  This document has not been "distilled", correct?
A doc, docx or one saved as a pdf file using the adobe pdf maker cannot be opened in distiller?
In Acrobat Distiller I found a couple of help guides that look to be more informative - though complicated to understand.  I had a couple of transparancies - I assume these were the images where I had erased the background and put them on a transparent background -- or the text boxes I've since learned not to use.  Transparancies are addressed on page 38 - but over my head.  Is there an easier explanation to be found someplace on how to preprare non-text items?
And one more  if I may. Some of my images were converted using RGB, convert to BW, instead of grayscale.  I see several "colors" came up.  Using Preflight can I convert all these to grayscale within acrobat or should I redo every image in grayscale individually? This is an instruction manual so is image heavy.
Thanks for your patience, I really want to learn this if I can find instructions I can understand

I am trying to convert a PDF to a Word document using Acrobat Pro 9 but am unable to find "Content to edit" under tools.  Do I need a newer version?

Acrobat 9 Pro (not Standard) can export ("convert") PDF to Word, RTF, or other text formats.
    Click-path:  File - Export
    Take your pick.
With install of Acrobat 9 the Help PDF is installed also.
From the this PDF's Bookmarks expand Chapter 5's bookmark and select "Convert PDFs to Word".
    Be well...

  • When I open pdf with my Acrobat Pro 8, it takes a while, then says not responding

When I open a pdf with Acrobat Pro 8 it takes a while, then says "not responding" then grays the page out, then finally opens.  The same thing happens if I use Acrobat 10.  It doesn't happen with anything else.  Any ideas, please?

Do you have Acrobat 8 and X on the same machine? Do you have Reader on the same machine as well? If so which version? How much RAM? How much free hard drive space? What OS? What happens if you turn off your virus protection does things speed up?

  • Errors Opening and Installing Adobe Acrobat Pro

Originally mine was a single problem with the following error after attempting to open Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0, "An error has been detected with a required application library and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application."
Now after reading the Adobe Community Forum article which recommended a complete uninstall of my Adobe Acrobat Pro 7 using this tool 'acrobat_ittools_cleaner_p1_040612' I have an additional problem with the following error,
    "Error 1310.Error writing to file: C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 7.02\ActiveX\AcroPDF.dll
Verify that you have access to tha directory."
Whereas previously I was able to reinstall the program successfully after an 'uninstall', now I encounter this error and cannot remedy it.
Please note that I have performed all of the solutions offered in this url: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-1310-error-writing-file.html#main_Vista to no avail. The problem persists.
Therefore, my hope is that after having used the tool 'acrobat_ittools_cleaner_p1_040612' and then successfully reinstalling Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, I will find that the original problem has also been fixed.
Again, the original problem was this error:
"An error has been detected with a required application library and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application."
And the additional problem which came about after having used the tool is this:
    "Error 1310.Error writing to file: C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 7.02\ActiveX\AcroPDF.dll
Verify that you have access to tha directory."
Has anyone ever encountered either or both of these issues? If so, please share your experience and what you did to fix the problem(s).
    Thank you,
    -Dan Sacapano

  • Convert from Word 2007 to Acrobat Pro 9; bookmark issue

When converting from Word 2007 to PDF using Acrobat Pro 9, enabling "Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks", not only are Headings converted to bookmarks, but bulleted text (styles), as well.  I attached the subsequent PDF, but this forum does not permit the document attachment.  I really only want to show the Headings.  (It may be noteworthy to mention that when using this same set of styles in Word 2003 and Acrobat Pro7 the conversion was seamless.)
Does anyone know how to correct this?  I have reviewed my Word styles and the issue does not appear to be on the document level.  Am I missing some obscure setting?
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks.
    -PS

I had a similar situation occur when converting Word 2007 docs to Acrobat Pro 9 Extended via the PDFMaker (Acrobat add-on tab in Word 2007), and I want to share a workaround. In summary, I had extraneous bookmarks appear in the PDF (heading 3s, body text, XE Index tags, etc.)  that I did not select to be in the PDF.  I contacted Adobe's support and ended up talking for approx. 2.5 hrs to 2 different reps with no solution. They reproduced the issue on their end, but couldn't figure out how to fix this. I recently upgraded to Tech Comm Suite 2.5 from 1.0. The Word 2007 conversion to PDF via Acrobat Pro 8.x worked fine.
Scenario: I have 400-page user guides that I am required to publish as 'Press Quality' with navigable bookmarks to certain headings in the PDF. I have to generate the PDF via the Acrobat Add-On tab in Word, since I do not want to manually insert bookmarks in the PDF for 400 page documents (as you would when using the Adobe Print driver or 'Save As PDF' operation).
In the Adobe PDF Maker dialog, I have the following Application Settings selected in the General tab:
    Create Bookmarks
    Add Links
In the Bookmarks tab,  I originally had only two Elements selected for bookmarks:
Heading 1 (a Word Heading already present) as the Level 1 Bookmark.
Table of Contents Bookmark (a Word Style I created) as the Level 2 Bookmark.
As a result, the Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks and Convert Styles to Bookmarks were both enabled in the Bookmarks tab.
The resulting PDF contained extraneous bookmarks that I did NOT select, such as Heading 2s, 3s, even body text - too much to clean up for 400-page documents! Additionally, and this was annoying too - I noticed that all bookmarks appeared as Level 1 Bookmarks, making the PDF Bookmarks really messy. I converted multiple Word 2007 documents with the same results.
    How I resolved the issue:
In the Word 2007 document, open the Styles window, select all instances of the specific Word Heading (in my case, Heading 1). All instances of the selected Word Heading will be selected in the doc.
Click the New Style icon in the lower left part of the Styles window.
In the Create New Style from Formatting dialog, create a new style name (e.g., I created H1).
Just to be sure to NOT create the new style from an existing Word Heading, I selected (no style) in the Style Based On field.
Configure the remaining formatting items as necessary, and then click OK. All of the selected instances from the old Word Heading style are now changed to the new style created (in my case, H1).
Click the Preferences tab in the Acrobat add-on tab in Word 2007, and open the Bookmarks tab.
Remove the old Word Heading (in my case, it was Heading 1) so it no longer will be included as a Bookmark in the PDF.
Select the new Word Style that you created (in my case, H1) to be generated as the Level 2 bookmark. Note: My original Level 1 bookmark, "TOC Bookmark," is still selected. Now, only the Convert Word Styles to Bookmarks is enabled in the Bookmarks tab.
Generate the PDF once again via the PDFMaker, and no extraneous bookmarks appear in the PDF.
Note: I also noticed that when Index tags (XE tags) were present in an element selected to be a bookmark in the PDF (such as my new style, H1), they also appeared in the PDF Bookmarks pane. I just moved the XE tags down to the body text so they would no longer appear in the PDF.
Question for discussion: Maybe there is a bug in the PDFMaker when both Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks and Convert Styles to Bookmarks are selected? The extraneous bookmarks do not appear in my PDF when only Convert Word Styles is selected.

  • Unable to open pdf created with Acrobat Pro using Adobe Reader X

Files created with some Adobe Professional applications such as Acrobat Pro ensure the file is small by excluding font information from the file.  Simple pdf creation applications embed the font in the file, which makes for transportability between apps but does make the files big.
The problem i have experienced is that Adobe Reader X is one of the simple app varieties, so is unable to open, print, or read files created using Adobe Acrobat Pro..
i'd welcome any help in (a) finding a free app that opens these 'pro pdf' files, OR (b) an option setting in Acrobat Pro which includes the font information in the file - or both!

There are so many things wrong, around a tiny grain of truth, it really isn't worth examining. Not at this stage if you are more interested in getting things working.  It may be worth asking you though, since Reader doesn't even launch for you, how you came to focus on font embedding being the cause.
Ok, Reader doesn't launch. Suppose you start Reader FIRST. Then use File > Open on your PDF.

Please help, how to fix this issue??

    Hi camelon,
Please delete the "Acrobat" and "OOBE" folders found in
    on Mac: <yourusername>/Library/Application Support/Adobe
    on Windows XP: <youruser>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe
    on Windows 7: <youruser>\AppData\Local\Adobe
and delete the "Acrobat" folder found in
    on Mac: <yourusername>/Library/Preferences
    on Windows XP: <youruser>\Local Settings\
    on Windows 7: <youruser>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
Then launch Acrobat. It will go through the first launch experience of asking for UI language, AdobeID, etc.
If there's no change in behavior, please attempt to go to:
    https://na1mbls.licenses.adobe.com
If you can't get to this website there may be a firewall or other software blocking the connection. Acrobat must be able to reach this https URL and 3 others in order to complete and monitor the subscription/trial process.
If you can view the page at this URL, then please send the PDApp.log and amt3.log file from
    on Mac: <yourusername>/Library/Logs/PDApp.log
    on Windows 7: <youruser>\AppData\Local\Temp
    to [email protected]

  • Creating option (radio) buttons from Word to PDF (Acrobat Pro)

    Hello,
I have a word document with form elements (from the form toolbar). After converting this file into a pdf with the acrobat pro add-in I make a interactive pdf with "form field recognition" (in German: "Formularfelderkennung ausführen") of the form menu.
    So far so good.
But I want to use option buttons, too, not only checkboxes. In Word these option buttons are available only through the toolbar "control element toolbox" (in German: "Steuerelement-Toolbox"). But these elements are not recognized by the above mentioned Acrobat option.
So, how can I do this without creating these option buttons by hand in Acrobat Pro?
    Thanks, Carlos

Is it a Designer or Acrobat created form?

  • Headings to Bookmarks - w Word 2010 and Acrobat Pro 9

So Adobe decided to rip us off by denying a fix for the Acrobat Pro Ribbon in  MS Office 2010 We refuse to take part on their money making scheme and spend loads to upgrade to Acrobat X just for that  (sorry Adobe, try not cheating your customers next time). So we are now unable to use the advanced conversion options once found within MS Office. Grrr again!
We are working with CS5 with Acrobat 9, all properly updated. With that:
    - is there any hidden setting or trick that would allow converting Word headings into bookmarks automatically when converting Word documents? It doesn't matter where I start (from Word or from Acrobat) as long as the result is the same
    - is there any third-party add-in/plug in that enables the functions we lost with the missing ribbon? Such as options to convert those headings to bookmarks, endnote/footnote links to link in the PDF and so on?
    Thanks in advance!

    You have three choices:
    1. Add the bookmarks in the PDF by hand.
    2. Go back to OFFICE 2007.
    3. Upgrade to AA X.
Keep in mind that OFFICE 2010 came out after AA 9 that is 2 years old, the basic revision cycle for Acrobat. MS added some major changes that required Adobe to do a major rewrite on AA X to get PDF Maker to work. Call it a money making scheme if you like. One could also look at MS actions that cause problems for other products that work with OFFICE. In fact, one almost suspects that MS puts hooks in their software to mess up competing technology. This has never been proven and may be false, but it is an alternate scenario. In any case, the three choices mentioned are your only alternatives. My understanding is that Adobe has no plans to update AA9 to resolve this problem with OFFICE 2010. This has been a know problem since the release of OFFICE 2010 and it took Adobe some time to even fix AA X to meet the need.
If you are not willing to buy AA X, your best solution is to move your systems back to OFFICE 2007.

  • Mac Pages will not open in CS4 Adobe Acrobat Pro

Is this standard? OR can you only open other Adobe/pdf files in Acrobat Pro?

Acrobat Pro cannot open pages files. You need to create a pdf file from
Pages as you do with any other program from the print dialog box or in
the case of Pages you can use the export function (but this doesn't use
    Acrobat to create pdf files).

  • Can't Open PDF's with Acrobat Pro

I'm not able to open some PDF's sent to me on a hard drive.  I'm tried opening them from the hard drive itself, and my desktop and I get the same message everytime.  [file name] could not be opened because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
I'm running OS 10.6.6 and Acrobat Pro 9.4.0.  I plugged the hard drive into a PC running Reader 9.2 and the files open just fine.  The people that sent me the files say they are running Acrobat Pro 7 and 9 (I've emailed back to find out exactly which was used to create these files)
I've never had this happen before, what is causing this issue?  And is there a quick fix?  (I've seen posts for downloadable software from the web-this is my work computer so that isn't an option)
    Thanks!!!!

It might be an issue with the hard disk format. A 1TB drive must be an NTFS volume, not a Fat 32-volume. What happens if you drag the file from the hard drive to the Mac and try to open it there. Frequently, Mac computers write temporary files to the same directory a file is opened from. Macs cannot write to NTFS drives and that could be contributing to the problem.

  • Can I convert a PDF to a Microsoft Word Document in Acrobat Pro?

Does Acrobat PRO have the tools to convert an existing PDF to a Microsoft Word Doc?

Yes, but the quality of the conversion depends on the structure of the PDF itself. Be prepared to recognize that the conversion may not be perfect if the PDF structure is not proper. You may also want to try the option to retain the format versus the text flow.
