  • SCCM 2012 R2 unable to install Distribution Point on Windows 7

We have a SCCM 2012 R2 CU 2, single site. We would like to deploy the distribution point at 1 of the branch but hit with issues.
We tried various workaround. Reinstall IIS, manually install IIS.
We had repair WMI, and test WBEMTEST to the WMI and proof it able to connect, given security permission to everyone. Problem still persist.
    The distmgr.log shows
    CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\["Display=\\dpname\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=sitename"]\\"dpname\\root\default. Error = 0x80070005
GetWMIObject - Failed to connect to root\default on ["Display=\\dpname\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=sitename"]\\dpname\. Error code: 0x80070005

    Anyone can help?

  • SCCM 2012 - Adding Operating System Installer (The specified path does not contain a valid operating system ..)

I have encountered the dreaded "The specified path does not contain a valid operating system or you do not have permission to access it.  Specify a valid path" message that seems to be popular in many forums .... BUT, so far none of the "solutions"
have fixed the problem (of I don't understand the fix)
    Configuration
    SCCM 2012 SP1 5.0.7804.1000
    WADK 8.100.26629.0  < Suggested Fix
    Server 2008 R2
SCCM Administrator with UserID = SCCMAdmin
Steps / Fixes I have followed
I have configured a administrative share
\\caleb\sources$ to hold directories (such as Apps, Drivers, and OS) with the following NTFS Permissions
EVERYONE has Read and Execute, List folder, Read permissions<o:p></o:p>
    SYSTEM has Full Control
    <Suggested Fix
SCCMManagers (our group that has all SCCMManagers) has Full Control<o:p></o:p>
SCCMAdmin (the SCCM Admin account that we are using to import image) has Full Control<o:p></o:p>
Local Administrators (the local machine administrator) has Full Control
    <Suggested Fix
    <o:p></o:p>
Another Fix is to explicitly grant all permissions to the SCCM Administrator
    <Suggested Fix
    >Administrative Users ...
Properties of the SCCM Administrator (for us that is SCCMAdmin) has all the boxes checked<o:p></o:p>
Another suggestion I was able to glean was to Specify the Network Access Account
so I configured SCCMAdmin as the Network Access Account.
Another potential fix is that the image ISO file that has been downloaded is corrupt.   So, I downloaded the Win 7 (and Win 8.1) ISO's from MSDN and did a Checksum check.
I then mounted the ISO (on 2008R2 I use VirtualClone Drive) and copied the contents of the image to
    E:\Sources\OS\en_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_vl_build_x86_dvd_u_677896 for Windows 7 with SP1
    To double check,
I computed the Hash on the Install.WIM located in the Sources directory and compared with
the computed Has Tag for the Install.WIM on the ISO Image  ... and the Hash tag of the WIM's matched (extracted vs what is contained within the ISO)<o:p></o:p>
I tried to load the images into SCCM 2012 using the "Operating System Installers" option
    UNC to installer
    \\caleb\sources$\OS\en_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_vl_build_x86_dvd_u_677896
Then I receive the lovely message <o:p></o:p>
"The specified path does not contain a valid operating system or you do not have permission to access it.  Specify a valid path"<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>

  • Procedure performing a "Retry Secondary Site" Operation in SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary Server

    Dear Brother,
My SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary Site Server, unfortunately crashed and required to be restored, doing this I end up performing a "Retry Secondary Site Operation.
One by one I am clearing out the errors but there are few remaining errors on the prerequisite checks:
1.[Failed]:The logon account for the SQL Server service cannot be a local user account, NT SERVICE\<sql service name> or LOCAL SERVICE.  You must configure the SQL Server service to use a valid domain account, NETWORK SERVICE, or LOCAL SYSTEM.
Actions Done: SQL Related Services use Logon As Domain Account "Microsoft-Domain\BillAdmin" , but still the above message still appears in the logs.
    Actions Done: None
2.[Failed]:The collation of the site database does not match the collation of the parent site's database.  All sites in a hierarchy must use the same database collation.
3.[Failed]:The site server might be unable to publish to Active Directory. The computer account for the site server must have Full Control permissions to the System Management container in its Active Directory domain. You can ignore this warning if you have
manually verified these permissions. For more information about your options to configure required permissions, see
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=233190.
Actions Done: None, as this machine is previously a working Secondary site for 1 Year already. So I do not suspect anything from the current related configuration.
4.[Failed]: Either the user account running Configuration Manager Setup does not have sysadmin SQL Server role permissions on the SQL Server instance selected for site database installation, or the SQL Server instance could not be contacted to verify permissions.
    Setup cannot continue.
Action Taken:  Domain Account "Microsoft-Domain\BillAdmin" has a
Sysadmin roles and actually all the check boxes are chosen to acquire all SQL account roles"
    5. [Failed]:Prerequisite checks complete with failure - check ConfigMgrPrereq.log
in the root of the primary site server system drive.
6[Failed]:Unable to complete secondary site server installation - check ConfigMgrSetup.log in the root of the secondary site server system drive.

  • Problem to generat an report on an SSRS for SCCM 2012 R2 SP1. I got error has occurred during report processing.

    Hi,
Problem to generat an report on an SSRS for SCCM 2012 R2 SP1. I got error has occurred during report processing.
In general it is no problem to generat SSRS reports, but an custom one i get issue with.
    The Error:
    An
error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
    Query
execution failed for dataset 'DataSet1'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
    ExecuteReader:
CommandText property has not been initialized

    Hi SaiTech,
According to your description, when you render report on SCCM 2012 R2, you got the error message.
According to my knowledge, the issue can be caused by following reasons:
Select permission not granted to ConfigMgr reporting account. We need to open the SQL management console and open the properties dialog box of configmgr db, grant select and execute permission to ConfigMgr reporting account.
Reporting Services Web Service URL or Report Manager is false. Make sure Web Service URL and Report Manager URL are correct. Restart SMS_Executive service and reinstall Reporting Service Point, then please render the report again.
Report timeout. Increase query and report timeout.
If the problem remain unresolved, please provide detailed information of SRSRP.log (default location: %programfiles%\Microsoft  and Configuration Manager\Logs) and reporting services error log(default location: %programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\<SQL
Server Instance>\Reporting Services\LogFiles), it will help us move more quickly toward a solution.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

    Hi,
Can you run the report successfully from
    /Reportserver">http://<servername>/Reportserver ?
If the reports cannot run successfully, please try to fix the SSRS problem.
You could also try the steps in Garth's reply.
Remove the reporting point from CM12
    Remove SSRS from SQL
    Reboot the SQL server
    Reinstall SSRS
Ensure the right Service package and CUs are installed on SQL.
    Configuration SSRS
Ensure that SSRS works before moving forward. <aka browse to
/reports">http://<server>/reports make sure that you can see the CM12 Folder and reports

  • SQL Connection Failed for SCCM 2012 R2 (Unable to load user-specified certificate)

We've recently completed an upgrade from SCCM 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2 and have been running in the new environment for about a week. As of this morning, The consoles failed to connect to the CAS' and one of the Primary Site's database. The issue was resolved
easily enough by addressing a certificate issue in SQL, but I'm left wondering if there's a correlation between the SP1-to-R2 upgrade that would cause the cert to fail. Anyone have experience with this?
2014-01-21 22:10:11.81 Server      The server could not load the certificate it needs to initiate an SSL connection. It returned the following error: 0x8009030d. Check certificates to make sure they are valid.

    2014-01-21 22:10:11.81 Server      Error: 17120, Severity: 16, State: 1.
2014-01-21 22:10:11.81 Server      SQL Server could not spawn FRunCM thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.

We got the same certificate related error events after a fresh install of SCCM 2012 R2 on a new server. It happened during the first reboot after SCCM was installed. In the Certificates mmc, I right-clicked on the certificate used by SQL and chose Manage
Private Keys. Giving the service account that runs the MSSQLSERVER service read rights to the private key allowed SQL to start. However, after a day or so we rebooted the server again, and SQL wouldn't start. Something had removed the service account's read
permission. Since the SCCM configuration wasn't that far along, we uninstalled SCCM. After giving the service account read rights again, and rebooting several times over a few days, and SQL started every time. We then installed SCCM 2012 R2 again, and checked
the certificate's permissions before rebooting. The service account still had read permissions when the install completed, but as soon as the server was rebooted, it lost the permissions again.
The Certificates mmc was then used to request a second computer certificate and then SQL was configured to use that new certificate via SQL Server Configuration Manager. After several days and a number of reboots the SQL services have started normally every
time so the second certificate seems to have fixed the issue. I have kept the original certificate for fear that removing it will cause whatever part of SCCM 2012 R2 that modifies the original certificate to start removing permissions from the new certificate
    as well.

  • SCCm 2012 r2 Remote Control setting

    hi,
    i have SCCM 2012 r2
my question is if there are 2 client policy deployed to 1 pc "member of 2 collection" first policy allow remote full control to IT support and 2nd policy allow remote view control to Domain User.
    which one take effect?
i already made the policy and applied it and give specific normal domain user remote control security role to specific collection
but when user try to connect to any PC the remote tool ask him to supply credential.

at first place Thanks for your support and
    Patience.
sorry, i did not understand what was in the link you specified.
i know it's device setting not user setting what i need is:
    if i have  user1 and user2
i want user1 to have full remote control permission and for user2 i want him to have view only remote control. on same pc which is member at 2 collection "is it possible to do it and how?"

  • SCCM 2012 R2 CU4 - Site Backup Task failed

Hi, I set up a Site Maintenance Task for Backup our Primary Site, but every time I run this task it fail with the following message:
Error: Backup folder \\backupserver\backupshare$ does not exist or backup service does not have permission to access the folder.
I tried to use "erveryone" in share permissions and NTFS Permissions with Full Control and then the Backup works! ... I tried to remove the everyone from NTFS completely then the Backup also still works .. but when I remove everyone from the share
permissions (and grant the SCCM Site Server and SQL Server Computer Accounts the Full Control Permission) the backup fails..
so it seems to me that I have a permission issue ... what is the correct Permission setup for UNC Backup? (Share and NTFS Permissions) ... I tried to give the SCCM Server and SQL Server Computer and SQL Cluster Account Full Control without success...)
    kind regards
    Klaus

  • Perms to specific reports folder in sccm 2012

Have set up access to certain reports based on security settings in sccm so accounts in specific AD group can access certain sccm reports via ssrs reporting web site.  Utilized the very useful information in the links below.  I have a request for
the group to access the network folder reports, but that means I would have to give RUN REPORT perms to the SITE permission in the security role, as that is the only group that includes the network folder.  I don't want to give them access to the
rest of the stuff it includes, such as client push, client status, replication traffic, etc., as that would just cause confusion among the customer base.  I don't want to give them anymore than they need.  I tried giving the group rights to the individual
reports in the network folder, but the problem is that since there is no access to the folder itself without doing the above, they can't get to the reports.  I could give them rights to the folder via SSRS but then SCCM would just overwrite that 15 minutes
later.  Does anyone have any suggestions on this one?  Thanks.  : )

I'm not concerned about giving them more rights, I'm concerned about giving them access to reports that they don't need access to, otherwise there would be widespread confusion and misunderstanding.  This, in turn, would generate anxiety-based
calls to the support desks, that I would like to avoid.  I'm not trying to hide anything from them, I just don't want to cause undue worry and confusion.  Make sense?
So don't give them access to reports that you don't want them to have. Here is a blog that will tell you how to grant access to one report.

  • Sccm 2012 R2 - Windows 7 not listening on Port 80

    Hello,
In looking through smsts.log and IIS logs I saw a lot of error communicating on Port 80.  When  tried to telnet from a pc to our sccm 2012 server using port 80, it goes through fine. But when I tried it the other way around, it fails.  When
I ran netstat -an |find /i  "listening" on my pc and others around me, I discover port 80 isn't listening. The firewall is off on both the pcs and sccm primary server.  Port 80 isn't blocked on the network.

I was told something has to initiate port 80 being open on win7.  Is this true? If so, any idea why sccm isn't doing this? I could switch to port 8530 (have to do this for wsus too), but would think networking would have to open this port and then again,
would the pc listen for it?
PS, The sccm position before this one,  dealt with Servers, that must have had port 80 listening.

After installing SCCM client via Task Sequence, and rebooting, the Self-signed certificate never comes down so the other Action items in Cinfiguration Manager Properties never come down.  The only way I can get the Certificate to come down (seen in
MMC) is to give full permission (No one had rights initially) to rsa keys folder, delete smscfg.ini file and restart the sms host service.  But if you go into configuration manager properties the client certificate is still shown as None. The locationServices.log
shows :failed to send management point list location request message to Primary Server/MP. If try
http://PrimaryServer it fails to connect from a pc. But if I try it from the primary server sccm01 it works fine. Port 80 is open on the network.
    smsts shows:
Sending with winhttp Failed; 80072ee2  and also socket connect failed; 8007274c
Is there any other logs I can send you to help resolve this?
Again, Thanks so much for all of your help!!!

  • SCCM 2012 CLSID APPID DCOM DEFAULT PERMISSIONS

I am trying to install SCCM 2012 onto a set of Server 2012 R2 servers. I did get SQL 2012 to install without much trouble. But there are multiple problems and I still have to WMF 4 and ADK installed before I try to install SCCM itself. Because of our environment
this servers are hardened. The problems are: WMF won't instal because the signer of the message invalid or not found (0x80096002), MS patches won't install because the "revocation process could not continue - the certificate(s)could not be checked) (0x800B010E
and in event viewer 2148204814), and in HKEY CLASSES ROOT while the APPID hive has permissions that match a separate working system we have the APPIDs under it have all read only permissions except trustedinistaller. Consequently, the permission settings on
all the DCOM objects are dimmed out. While I can change the existing DCOM and APPID objects (hopefully all at once) that leaves the problem of new objects. What is setting these permissions to read and how do I change that once and for all? I can ony find
info on changing one APPID at a time.

    "hardened" = "broken"
Sorry, but most so called hardening processes are completely invalid and end up just breaking everything.
I highly recommend whoever implemented these "lockdowns" watch this: http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/TechEd/NorthAmerica/2011/SIM304
Ultimately, your issues have noting to do with ConfigMgr. The WMF is a standard Windows component as are Windows updates and thus you should seek help in a Windows forum or contact CSS (because I don't think you'll actually get anywhere in the forums if
your systems are so broken that you can't even install updates).

  • SCCM 2012 Security to allow users to add resource to a collection

    Hi,
I need to permission IT Support staff so they are able to add computers to certain collections in SCCM 2012. I created a new Role and assigned the following permissions under "Collection"
Read, Modify, Modify Resource, delete resource, read resource, Modify Collection setting, read AMT.
Also allowed read at site level.
Users are still unable to add computers to a collection ? Any ideas why ?
I did read a previous post which said something about also having to permission users to the limiting collection but this doesnt make sense, and sounds insecure.
    Thanks

Here is a solution that should work for you. Perform this on a test account with only the security role you are going to change for your users in question.
Create a new collection that is a copy of your collection limiting collection mentioned above.
Set the limiting collection of this new collection to something other than the limiting collection it defaults to, which is the copied collection.
Select the collections to which you wish to grant Add Resource permissions to and set their limiting collection to this new collection.
Within your Administrative user or group properties, specify this new limiting collection and the collections you wish to allow Add Resource permissions under the "Associate assigned security roles with specific security scopes and collections - don't forget
    to add your security scope.
Apply the changes and test - don't forget to restart the console of your test account.
This does a couple things - it allows the Add Resource function to the specific collections you wish for the specific Administrative user/group you wish.  It does NOT allow modify on the limiting collection. And it separates the specific collections
you tag as being modifiable by the specified group.
We had the same issue in our environment - need a specific group to be able to Add Resource to a single specific collection which was being limited by the All Workstations collection.  Allowing modify to the All Workstations collection allowed modifications
to any collection limited by All Workstations. So I came up with the solution above, tested against my test accounts and it works as I needed.
Hopefully this will solve your issue and give you some options going forward.
