Permission to update software?

I was trying to update iTunes to 10.5 yesterday, then a Mac OS X 10.7.2 update today and when I try to install the updates via Software Update or even just directly downloading the update for iTunes, something goes wrong. When I tried it with software update, it would tell me that I don't have permission, and that the update could not be installed. When I try to just directly install iTunes, it tells me that it couldn't create the folder

I ran disk utility, and while I was verifying the disk permissions, this text showed up
"Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired."
I'm not really sure what to do from this point, I'm sure I messed something up somewhere, I just don't know where to begin to fix this, or if I even started in the right direction.

Just repair permissions. There are some that never get repaired. If it is not relevant to what you have installed, you can ignore it.

In the past when I've updated Firefox it has made my add-ons stop working, however I've never had any virus problem as I have other programs to handle that. So for me, updating Firefox is more of an inconvenience than a benefit (not to mention changes in layout that I'm used to and stuff like that). I actually don't understand why you are getting those prompts from Windows. It sounds as though the update was already downloaded and staged before you started Firefox up again. I vaguely recall reading some threads a year or two back about clearing out a downloaded update but the details elude me.
Unrelated: Your More System Details shows you have a an optional user.js settings file. If you did not create this file yourself, it may contain settings added by other software that override your previous session preferences at startup. You may want to investigate. Problem with iTunes and/or updater software??

I just bought a brand new 30gig iPod video. I followed apple's "instructions" and installed iTunes and the iPod software off of the included cd. I then connected my iPod and it charged but itunes never recognized it. Windows can find it (it appears as an external disk drive in my computer and iPod in other places) but iTunes doesn't recognize it at all. I have tried resetting the iPod, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes/ipod software using the install cd, i have tried downloading the latest software from apples website and installing it that way, I have tried everything but restoring the ipod because the updater software won't even work. every time I try to use it, it just says "Service Error". I really have no idea what to do. The iPod seems to work fine, it turns on, turns off, windows seems to recognize it, but iTunes won't recognize the iPod and the iPod updater software doesn't seem to work at all. The last thing I am going to try is wiping my computer harddrive (it needs it for other reasons, not just this iPod problem) and starting completely fresh with nothing or very little installed besides iTunes and the iPod software.

Thats because you don't have iOS 5 or 6 installed.

Downloaded Update Software now Ipod is not working - Please Help

I downloaded Update Software onto Ipod and now Ipod is not working. It is stating "Itunes detected an Ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used in Itunes". Here's the deal I did that now the Ipod just blinks the circle with the line through it and says do not disconnect. Nothing happens. Has the new software corrupted my Ipod? Can anyone Help

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.

I can't open my iPod library in iTunes, the app doesn't show the device at all, no error message, nothing, but windows 8 opens it like it would a flash drive. It has worked for me before just fine and both have the most updated software versions.

The iPod Touch is using 3.1.3 software and it tells me that is the current and updated software version.

You are correct in that your 1G iPod Touch has all the latest software updates. It can only be updated to version 3.1.
However that Apps you are trying to download and install likely require iOS version 4.0 or later, which is not compatible with your iPod Touch. So either you'll need to buy a newer iPod Touch or find other Apps that are suitable replacements if possible.

TS1394 Installed iLife11. Now iPhoto wont open. Says to update software. Software update says no new software available.

Seems to be a catch22 situation. After installing iLife 11 from Install DVD I tried to open iPhoto. Received message that I needed to update to the latest version. Selected Software Update from Apple Menu and received reply that no new software is available.
What do I do now?

It sounds like you are unable to open iTunes after it updated recently. I would check for 3rd party plugins that may have lost compatibility when the software was updated first:

you can disable any third-party plug-ins by opening iTunes in Safe Mode:
OS X: Hold down Option-Command.
You should see this message before iTunes starts up: "iTunes is running in Safe Mode. Visual plug-ins you have installed have been temporarily disabled."
Note: This is different than Safe Boot or Safe Mode for Mac OS X. You may need to test both at the same time to isolate all third-party interference.
Click Continue and see if any issues persist. If your issues are resolved with iTunes running in Safe Mode, check the following:
Consult the vendor of any plug-ins you installed to see if they're compatible with your version of iTunes and check for any updates that may be available.
Close iTunes and move third-party add-ons to the Desktop to troubleshoot the behavior. iTunes stores these plug-ins and scripts in these locations:

I am having the same problem. I even changed my password and updated all of my security information. Now it just gives me an error and retry message, which of course also does not work. Went to support and was going to open a chat (seemed the simpler option) and received a message that my support has expired for this serial number unless I want to pay $29.00. So I chose the option to call later, which was the exact time suck I was trying to avoid. Why wouldn't the new operating system also update the apps that were already part of my old platform?

I updated software on my computer, now Safari won't open

I updated software this morning on my computer. Just did it automatically and didn't pay attention to what was being updated. Looks like Safari was one of the apps. Now, Safari won't open, mac Mail won't open, not even my Skype will open.
It must have something to do with the new dumb**** screwups with the switchover to "mobileme". I have OS 10.4.11.
I'm able to use Firefox.
On www.me.com I can't access my mail, but I can access my account information.

I sounds like you tried a Safari restart. I don't know what it takes to generate a new .plist. Might try log out and back in or restart computer.
Might try reapply the 10.4.11 combo updater—sometimes miraculous results.
While you wait for someone more vast than me, see below, it would be helpful to update your 'My Public Profle.'

we have 2 iphone 4's synced to the same itunes account for apps and music since the day we bought them, but each has a different icloud acct. they have both been updated on the same itunes account with every update that has come out since we bought them in december of 2010. nothing on either phone has ever been lost or duplicated. having said all that, maybe i'm missing something here, but we have had no problems. we do have itunes setup to sync manually. i do believe i'm a piker compared to lawrence finch, but i'm just telling you what happens in my house. maybe check with apple? is there a store near you?
