Permissions and access

My internal drive crapped out. I reinstalled on an external. I'd like to move data from the crap internal. I have "limited access" to this drive. My admin account says it has read and right access but apparently not. The user account files are blocked out to me. Any suggestions welcomed please. The Docs and Downloads folder from my previous user/admin account, iphoto and itunes libraries are all locked out to me.

Maybe try a Disk Utility permissions repair on it? And usually logging into the root user helps. I do that whenever the permissions decide to be stubborn because root can do anything it wants. You might be able to just change the permissions in root.
And what do you mean by your internal drive is "crapped out"? Is it damaged?

  • What third party tools exist to show a user or groups permissions and access rights for an entire SharePoint 2010 site collection?

Our admin crew has just inherited a 4 year old SharePoint site that was developed on SP 2007 and later migrated to SP 2010.  We are trying to determine which users and groups have access to the 150+ sub-sites of the site and at what permission levels.
Research tells me SharePoint 2010 has no means to simply list out a user's permission levels over an entire site collection, but that it must be done at each sub-site, list & library that has permission inheritance broken to create a unique permissions
    object.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue?  Without days of research at each sub-site, list & library, how would one more economically go about such an investigation of a user's permissions on an entire SharePoint 2010 site?

    Hello,
There is no direct way to see user and group broken permission within a site collection. However you can write powershell script to get the permission. You can modify the below script based on your need and export result in CSV. You may also need to add
code to iterate all subsites within site collection.

Codeplex tool is also available to check permission but it is not always fulfill business need. You may also look at this if it suits you.

  • [SOLVED] Problems in permissions for accessing files

    Hi everyone
let's say I want to copy a folder to /etc/
the problems is my user can't copy files anywhere other then it's home it doesn't even have access to any file or folder other then home.
on the other hand I can use root to view and copy or access but the files that root creates or copies are only for root , I mean other groups or users can't access them .
I tried changing permissions on files ( chmod , chown) but sometimes it takes a lot of time .
can you tell me how I can give my own user those permissions ?(permission of copying file to a folder like /etc/ or creating a file in there )
is there a way to change root's default setting so when i create something with root that file or folder be accessible for others automatically ?!
sorry if my questions are dumb

You can indeed do that. I have no intention of telling you how.
What you are trying to do is dangerous and, frankly, idiotic. I am sure that you are no idiot but your strategy is idiotic. (Smart people often do dumb things.)
If you insist on doing this, you can do it. But you should learn about the security system you are disregarding so that you know the risks. If you do that, you will know how to run those risks if you wish.
What packages are you downloading? Do you mean pacman's cache? Why do you want your user to have write access there?
Note that apart from the general idiocy of this strategy, it will also prevent some programmes from working at all because some of them check for sane permissions and refuse to run if they find the permissions are insane.
I don't even understand why you want to change root's settings. If you are working as root anyway, why do you also want your user to have access?
You can keep themes etc. in your home directory in appropriate places. Then you have complete control of them. You should not be adding additional themes to the system's collection except by installing packages with pacman.
Please learn about the way that the file structure, permissions and access controls are supposed to work and the protection that they offer you. (From yourself as well as other people.)

Please help me to solve this issue. I don't know if uploading the excel workbook is enough or maybe It needed to connect to another data source.
    I Appreciate in advance.

    Hi Ali.y,
Based on the current error message, the error can be related to the
Claims to Windows Token Service (C2WTS) and is an expected error under certain conditions. To verify the issue, please check the aspects below:
         1. The C2WTS Windows service and C2WTS SharePoint service are both running.
         2. Check the SQL Server Browser service is running on the machine that has the PowerPivot instance of SSAS.
         3. Check the domain. You're signing into SharePoint with a user account in some domain (call it Domain A).  When Domain A is equal to Domain B which SharePoint server itself is located (they're the same domain), or Domain
    A trusts Domain B.
In addition, the error may be caused by Kerberos authentication issue due to missing SPN. In order to make the Kerberos authentication work, you need to configure the Analysis Services to run under a domain account, and register the SPNs for the Analysis
    Services server.
To create the SPN for the Analysis Services server that is running under a domain account, run the following commands at a command prompt:
    • Setspn.exe -S MSOLAPSvc.3/Fully_Qualified_domainName OLAP_Service_Startup_Account
Note: Fully_Qualified_domainName is a placeholder for the FQDN.
    • Setspn.exe -S MSOLAPSvc.3/serverHostName OLAP_Service_Startup_Account
    For more information, please see:

Mac won't update software or access iTunes shop. Message comes up with 'not connected to the net. Check connections' error. I still have internet access. Changed my Apple ID but no result. Repaired permissions and re-installed operating system.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

All my hard drives (internal and external) have a small lock in the lower left corner of the icon and I don't have permissions to access. I have 3 user accounts set up and I cannot access any of them.   Permissions are set to 'Custom' in the get info window and I can't change them. Originally I had Snow Leopard installed on one hard drive and 10.5.8 installed on another.   I started to have some problems accessing data between them and so I tried changing the permissions on ONE hard drive partition.   The next thing I know, all my drives are locked (except the ones with the systems on them), the small lock appeared in the lower left corner of the drive icons and I don't have permissions to access any of them.   In the get info window, permissions are set to 'Custom' and I can't change them.

There is suddenly a lock icon on my external backup drive!

  • Full access permissions and calendars

Quick question...in Exchange 2007 if you grant full access permissions on a mailbox, does it also give full owner rights to the calendar as well?
So if User A has full access permissions to User B's mailbox, do they also get Owner permissions on the calendar of User B?

    Hi,
When you grant the Full Access permission to another user for a mailbox, that user becomes able to log on to the mailbox and access its entire contents. This includes calendar as well.
Grant Full Access permission is different from applying the Owner role to a folder. For more details, you can refer to the following articles.

    Hello All,
Please, could someone tell me Which AD Attributes are use to store Send-As, Full-Access permissions and Calendar permissions?

    José Osorio

    Hi Jose,
Based on my test, the value of attribute msExchDelegateListLink points to Full Access permission while the
publicDelegates indicates Send on behalf permission.
As for Send as permission, it is the permission in the Access Control List which is a list of permissions attached to an object. Just like:

  • How to create and access a Virtual Host on the J2EE WAS?

Hello, I have searched through the Forums and help.sap.com and found a lot of information on how to set up a Virtual Host on the J2EE server but am having issues with it working.
The goal is to provide a simple virtual host on the J2EE Portal server to host some static image and HTML files. Previously I had stored these files in the standard publicly accessible SAP J2EE folder location /usr/sap/<SID>/JCxx/j2ee/cluster/serverx/apps/sap.com/com.sap.engine.docs.examples/servlet_jsp/_default/root/. This location is resolved to when using the URL <host>:50000 for example.
The main issue here is that during Portal support pack applications this folder gets wiped out and we have to remember to save off any custom files and folders in this location and replace them.
I would like to create a virtual host to store these static files (i.e., branding-image.jpg, etc...).
I have run through the process of creating the virtual host both using Visual Administrator and <host>:50000/nwa but am not able to get the virtual host name to resolve properly.
The following are the steps that I have taken. Let's assume the standard SAP portal (i.e., xSS, etc...) is running properly on <host>:50000.
    1. create virtual host via Visual Administrator/NWA called 'sapwebserver1' by using the Create Host option (takes on the attributes of the 'default' standard virtual host)
    2. change the root directory for this virtual server to a custom folder at E:/tmp/mimes (where E:/usr is where the J2EE files are all installed), no start files were set up and nothing else was changed in the new virtual host record, no permissions were changed on the /tmp/mimes folder from whatever the default Windows user permissions are normally set, I am using a local Windows  administrator account but I have not seen any reference in the help files or the examples that indicate that any specific permissions updates need to be made on the virtual host root folder
    3. restarted the J2EE server as well as the HTTP Provider service
    4. before updating the company DNS, I wanted to test this locally on the server and so have updated the server's local HOSTS file with a <host IP address>   sapwebserver1 entry
    5. from that server I can ping the sapwebserver1 virtual host name and it resolves properly to the machine's physical IP address
According to all of the documentation and examples I have seen I should now be able to (from that server) launch a browser and access the static files in the virtual host by referring to http://sapwebserver1:50000/branding-image.jpg for example. This is not working and the browser just brings up a Cannot display the web page error in IE. By referring to the virtual host name sapwebserver1:50000 it's supposed to hit the J2EE server and based on the host name sapwebserver1 realize that it should resolve to the root directory E:/tmp/mimes. This is not happening. Just as a test I have created a copy of the 'default' virtual host and called it sapwebserver2, updated the local HOSTS file for this entry, and tried to see if that would work like the 'default' host. My expectation was that http://sapwebserver2:50000 would behave the same was as http://<host>:50000 but it too fails to resolve just like the sapwebserver1 virtual host refernce.
Would anyone happen to have any pointers on what to do next? I just want a simple virtual host to be able to serve up some static images and files.
Thanks for any insight or assistance you might be able to provide here.
    Graham

This defeats the purpose of trying to centralize SAP-related web resources on the SAP server. Typically IIS/Apache or other non-SAP servers are under the control of IT and not the SAP BASIS group.
We simply would like to have a centralized location to store static web files so that they are not overwritten during Portal support pack applications.

  • How do I change permissions to access a shared file?

My computer has 2 accounts, mine and my wife. She has a folder with photos. When logged in as my wife, I duplicated that folder and moved the copy to the User>Shared folder. When I log in as myself and access the Shared folder I see the copied folder with the photos but I can't open the photos. Get Info shows that I don't have any permissions. How do I change that? Thanks for any help.
    Owen

Sometimes, if you highlight an item and use Get Info (or keyboard
command to generate same item) you can see what user permissions
on a file are; and as the author or superuser of a computer, you may
be able to unlock them or give them a different level of general access.
Since I don't save my images to a specific user account (though my
own computers have two accounts each) these do not have the same
permission issues when used between the accounts; and they are
saved to a file on the hard disk drive accessible to both users directly.
{This is what the Shared folder is supposed to do; but I don't use iPhoto
    and so this never comes up as a problem in sharing images or exporting.}
If a user or Admin creates a folder for images, and saves them to the
hard disk drive location, the other user can see and use them; but
when there are different user permissions involved, the files have to
be changed so other users can open them. There should be a way
to make the change on more than one item at a time.
Here is a link to another Apple Discussions thread with some information
which may be of use to you to more streamline the shared folder issue:
    Read/Write Permissions for all users...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7944908
Hopefully this helps; if not, consider each person contributing to folders
in a generic folder on the hard disk drive you create yourself; so it will
not be in a Users folder in the first place. You can connect to these by
putting an alias folder on each of the user's desktops or in their Dock.
{You could also work around the issue by making more work for yourself,
in that you can Archive images (save as .zip) images in a folder and
    under one user, those tend to not be user-protected from sharing.}
Another look at how to: "Share an iPhoto Library in Tiger using ACL's"

  • A mess with account, administrator PW,  permissions and privileges!

I don't know where to start. I've tried a number of the suggestions in the other posts below, but just can't get into my HD1. I inadvertently deleted some folders from Library (but did put them back). I thought they were doubles.
I re-booted from my Snow Leopard install DVD (hold down C). I have tried a number of times to choose a new password. But, each time I can Log-in, but notice that I can't get into my Administration PW. Now, which one do I use? The one when I installed Leopard 2~3 years ago? (That one I forgot). Or one of the few that I just created?
Anyway, I live just outside of Tokyo, Japan and called the Apple Store in Tokyo (got an English speaker) and he directed me through the steps. But, he said to choose System Administration (root) which I did. Later I realized that shouldn't have been done from the article that he had sent me. I followed his steps, could log in and then noticed that I could use Mail (if I filled in my Mail PW etc.) but my clock couldn't be authenticated as I tried to set the time. It's on L.A. time. (but in Tokyo).
So, next that didn't work and he e-mailed me the Apple site Help articles on re-setting the accounts. I tried a few more times and still couldn't access to authenticate. So, I re-installed my Snow Leopard disk. 10.6...
I went to the Apple Support site and downloaded the Snow Leopard up-dates.... I've tried to install the up-dates of Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and that couldn't be authenticated either and it said I need 10.6.5 tried that and the same thing all the way down to 10.6.2 and still none of them could be installed either. Now, iTunes can't be accessed. and I just tried to install the newest Skype and that also can't be installed. (all on HD1 in applications) and my printer also... I can get online with Safari and Firefox O.K.
I also tried to use Disk Utility and verify disk/repair disk but get, "insufficient privileges"! and can not verify permissions. The time set can't be done. I click on the Lock it shows "authenticate" for a second and stays locked...
The Snow Leopard up-date 10.6.6 shows this....
Even though SL 10.6.6 is installed, it keeps going back to Mac OS X (10.6.1) below....
I wanted to post a screen shot here, but don't know how....it couldn't be copied.
    PLease...let me know...thank you
What can I do from here? Anyone out there able to help me! thanks. I am NOT a computer wiz and not really into any type of "Terminal" lingo to understand what I'd do.

ok, that's not normal then. then you are right and some permissions are seriously messed up. before we proceed a couple of questions. are you logged in as the user Savannah when you are experiencing these problems? were you trying to change permissions on the Mail folder while logged in as Savannah or as some other user. you should do it while logged in as Savannah. other users shouldn't have permissions to the Mail folder of user Savannah.
if you are doing this while logged in as Savannah I suggest resetting permissions and ACLs on Savannah's whole home directory. this is much easier if that user is admin so give it admin rights temporarily in system preferences->accounts. you can remove admin rights from that user later, once we fix everything. after you've made that user admin log in as Savannah and run the following terminal commands (copy and paste please)
    sudo chflags -R 0 ~
you'll have to enter the password of user savannah after that command. it will not be echoed on the screen. that's normal.
    Next enter
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
    and then
    chmod -RN ~
next, boot from the leopard install DVD and reset ACLs on Savannah's home directory as described here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1334?viewlocale=en_US
after that log in as savannah again and run
    sudo chgrp -R `id -gn` ~
then try using Mail again. it should hopefully work now.

    "THE SOLUTION"
The good news is the solution is very simple and takes a few seconds
    First cd /var/opt/oracle
You will find a file called oraInst.loc # cat oraInst.loc
    inventory_loc=/oracle/PR1/oraInventory
    inst_group=dba
Use vi or emacs to edit the file and change the inventory_loc to the directory of the oracle instance you are currently installing. ie inventory_loc=/oracle/PR2/oraInventory

This occurs if Naomi shares her Calendar with me, without granting me read "Full Details", if she changes the permissions and allows me to read Full Details, the sync error goes away.
It's repeatable, i have tested it with a few users sharing calendars with each other, and changing permissions.
The peculiar thing is that Naomi is in My Team, so her calendar is listed under Team Calendar,  I get no sync errors, it's only when I add Naomi's Calendar as a Shared Calendar and don't have read Full Access permission that the sync errors appear.
User's don't necessarily want to give Full Access to their Calendars, so that's not really a viable work around for us, this smells very much like a bug with outlook, is anyone else seeing this?
