Permissions bug, according to ISP engineer.

I am having problems setting up VPN for Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, home workstation computer, not networked.
I am also having general non-specific problems with Internet connectivity, according to network engineers.
I having a WiFi Mac and a hard-wired cable connect PC sharing the same modem at home.
The two machines are not 'networked', but standalone workstations. Relevant?
Specifically, I get script errors when I try to setup any 3rd party VPN service.
I can ignore error and VPN sets up.
But then the number of non-specific problems increase.
All of the 3rd party vendors, AND MY ISP ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT... blame Windows.
LOL! Maybe more specifically, there's something Windows and I should be doing, that we are not doing.
I noticed that my Ethernet Network has not selected Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol.
What happens if I install this "Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol"?
Is this why VPN is grumpy?
I found these two interesting links, but they don't point me in any specific direction.
( Direction? I am lost. That is why I am posting here? )
http://batcmd.com/windows/8/services/ndisimplatform/
http://www.ehow.com/list_6774290_multiplexing-protocols.html
Also, every time I click Diagnose (hiding behind Properties popup in above capture), I get errors after installing Windows. Microsoft Research did something here, and the errors are gone in this particular  Windows installation, but I still can't install
VPN without errors.
Very simply, the batcmd files runs as follows:
@echo off
sc config NdisImPlatform start= demand
exit
Anecdote   MNAMP is for Network Teaming and Binding. Provides a platform for network adapter load balancing and fall-over.
Query   MNAMP may resolve some permissions issue that causes VPN installers to display 'SCRIPT ERROR' during install. Considered that script error displays without Windows popup error and may be related to "waiting for Windows Firewall to
respond". At same time Windows Event viewer shows Error (reasoned with ISP engineer just now, possible Windows 8.1 Pro permissions bug, with implications far beyond VPN installer hangs)

Hi,
I think Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol is nothing to do with your issue. It was not installed by default. If it is not designated as “necessary” in vendor user Guide. I don’t think it will affect VPN connection.
Regarding to third party software/service problem, it is actually out of our support scope and our help might be limited.
We suggest you contact your program vendor to check if they have guidance for this.
The normal way to fix this would be to run services.msc, or to go into Administrative Tools and run "Services". You will not be able to do that if the "Application Information" service is disabled. Instead, reboot your computer into Safe
Mode with Networking. Then run services.msc and look for services that are designated as "Disabled" in the Startup Type column. Change these "Disabled" services to "Automatic". Make sure the "Application Information"
service is set to a Startup Type of "Automatic". When you are done enabling your services, click Ok at the bottom of the tool and reboot your computer back into normal mode.
If you are facing Access Denied Error when using SC command.
You may first try to enable the default administrator on your computer and later try to run the command in elevated command prompt and verify if you are able to run the command successfully.
To enable the default Administrator account, perform the steps below:
1. Click Start and type CMD in the Start search box
2. Right click on CMD in the list and click on "Run as administrator"
3. Type the following command: net user administrator /active:yes
Restart the computer and you should see an "Administrator" account.
Access Administrator account and follow the steps 1 and 2 and try to run the command.
If you need to do that for certain purpose such as running VPN when startup computer. You could provide us more details so we might find some workaround for you.
Thanks for your understanding.

D. Wu

  • Fix mounted image permissions bug by enabling permissions (!)

I wanted to share a permissions bug workaround on a mounted image -- just because it's a counter-intuitive technique and it could have other applications.
I wanted to share a mounted encrypted disk image between two users. Whatever I did, however, only the first user to mount the image could create new documents on it. Both users could edit existing documents and both users could create folders (but not files). If the second user tried to create a document they got this error message:
The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items.
Since both users had permissions on both the image file and the mounted image/drive - this error message was clearly wrong. It should be interpreted as "OS X has a permission problem of some kind but I don't know what it is. Good luck".
The fix was to disable 'ignore permissions' on the mounted drive/image. (Default setting is to 'ignore permissons').
With permissions enabled both users can create files.
For more details and an explanation of why I was trying to share an encrypted image between two users, see: http://tech.kateva.org/2012/07/password-security-what-if-your-desktop.html

  • Permissions Bug?

    Hi,
I have just downloaded Camino to run alongside Safari, and when I have come to repair permissions on the Macintosh HD, I notice that I don't get the comprehensive list of permission repairs anymore. Back with 10.4.5, a whole list of permission verifications and repairs, primarily with widgets were visible in the Disk Utility. After updating to 10.4.6, I have noticed that all I see now is the message "Permissions repair complete - The privileges have been verified or repaired on the selected volume", with absolutely no reference to what has been repaired or verified. Is this a bug or an issue which could point towards deteriorating health of my mac?
Thanks in advance for any help
    -Pos

This not a bug, but rather a new feature of Disk Utility in Mac OS 10.4.6. Most Mac users have felt that the long list of " We are using special permissions...etc." was essentially useless and Apple seems to agree now.
What you saw on your Mac is the new way of reporting the permissions verification and repair, and is normal.

  • Permit Ipsec protocol in ISP

    Hi Guys,
I am trying to estabish a site to site ipsec tunnel . I have requesed the ISP to permit ip protocl between site Aand site  B.
I would like to know if ISP open Ip protocol will it pass all the protocol requried for ipsec tunnel and do I need to ask them to open specifical the below protocols
    50 - Encapsulation Header (ESP)
    51 - Authentication Header (AH)
500/udp - Internet Key Exchange (IKE)
    4500/udp - NAT traversal
    Thanks in advance

There is  Contradiction in above 2 statement could some one please confirm with a supporting document
From the view of IP there is no differnce in TCP/UDP/ICMP/ESP other then the ip-protocol. They are all included.
You can test it with a little setup. Connect two routers back to back and build a tunnel between them. On the outside interface you place the following ACL.
    permit ip any any
    permit esp any any
    permit gre any any
    permit ...
If they were not included you would see hitcounts not only on the first line.
I have the tunnel up but not passing the traffic .
then it's time to share your config

  • Sharing content and permissions: bug?

I have 3 group of users in my Adobe Connect.
I give permission to alla of them to view the shared content.
Then i create some folders: folder1 only viewable by group 1, etc etc.
    Inside folder1 i insert 2 contents: 1) a pdf file; 2) a record of a meeting.
    I set permissions:
    - the pdf file not viewable by anyone, except me;
    - the record not viewable by anyone, except me.
If a user of group 1 goes inside the folder1, and he clicks on the pdf file, he sees that he hasn't the permissions.
I he clicks on the record, h ecan see (without problems) the record of the meeting!!!
    Is it a bug?

As a work around, try the following:
add the following to the recording URL /output/insertnamehere.zip?download=zip
take the downloaded zip file and re-upload it to connect as a new content objectDesired Content Folder > New Content
    Set and check the permissions.
This should validate as to whether this is a problem with the recording or just that instance of it. You can also set a custom URL for your recording by doing this. You may get a warning message on the summary page about the content not being complete or ready, but that is just Connect being angry about not knowing where the recording came from.

  • Repairing Permissions Bug?

    Hello.
I have a podcast I record with some of my friends and we are recording our second episode tonight. Before we have used the built-in microphone but today I went out and bought some USB mics. I researched and found a useful video on how to use more than one mic in GarageBand. I was stuck when it said to select an "aggregate device". I did research on that, and I found that I needed to "repair permissions". I tried that, but it came up with an "SUID error" and a list of "ASL" errors. I have tried a few times but have only gotten the same response.
I am running a MacBook with the latest version (10.5.1) of Leopard, and I would love some help. Now, I'm not the most tech-savvy person there is, so I'll try to understand the big words.
    Thanks!

Search these forums for SUID and ACL and see the many topics, most of which point to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306925 Manually downloading and reinstalling the 10.5.1 update (its the complete one and not a delta designed for your machine, which is what you get when using Software Update) usually eliminates those warning reports.

  • Is it SharePoint 2010 Code Bug - breakRoleInheritance ?

    Hi all,
I am writing this question to discuss following issue:
    Initial Requirement        :
we provided a custom sub site definition with feature which break permissions at site level and new user groups are created to manage permission for this sub site and various lists under this sub site.
4 different type of lists were provided with custom permission as per requirement.
    Code used                          :
    web.BreakRoleInheritance(false,
    true)
    à to break the permission
New Requirement          :               some more new lists to be created.
    Solution Proposed          :               OOB
    Issue
when a new list is created using OOB under this sub site, permissions are shown already break in ribbon menu while all user groups are copied from root site (not from sub site).
If however we click on inherit permission on the new list, root site crash, all user groups become unavailable.
    Similar issue found online:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/2a3525e1-5852-41e1-8815-7e772d23b306/site-collection-unavailable-after-inheriting-permissions-in-a-slist-in-a-subsite?forum=sharepointadminprevious
    Solution
    OOB
Inherit permissions at sub site level
Stop inheriting permission at sub site level
    Remove all not required users/groups
    è
Now OOB new list creation will work as it should in normal scenario, i.e. permission will be inherited from sub site level.
    Code change
    web.BreakRoleInheritance(false)
    à
will also serve the purpose and issue will be avoided
    Query
whether this behavior is known and not an exceptional one.

After a decent analysis, It looks like it’s a bug in the product and not a coding issue.

From the errors you got, it is obvoius that you are using a JDBC-ODBC driver. Right? Now, these types of drivers have a lot of limitations, like - you should get the data in the same order as the columns in the result set, etc. The use of cursors may also be one of its limitations since it is a more complex operation than obtaining results set data. What I can suggest to you is to use a Type 4 JDBC driver for your application and read its capabilities and limitations.
You can get a list of drivers for your DBMS at http://industry.java.sun.com/products/jdbc/drivers. And better yet, download the Oracle JDBC driver
    Hope this helps

  • Engineer call out charges for disabled customers

    Hi there,
I read somewhere online that if a bt customer who is registered disabled had any problems with there line & an engineer had to be called out to investigate, the customer wouldn't be charged for the call out or for any work that needed doing, is that true or is the information I read all wrong?
I'm enquiring on behalf of my father who is blind & registered disabled.

    Hi Craig,
well yes there was a problem with my fathers line, I look after him so live in the house & the broadband has been having lots of problems, also crackling on the line etc.
Anyway to cut a long story short, the isp sent out an engineer today to try and find the problem, it turned out the bt cabling on the outside of the house was 20+ years old and was in such a state it needed replacing, also the master socket was also very old & that was replaced as well.
Now I know my father wont be billed for the callout charge for the engineer as the isp is covering that & they told me there would be no callout charge when they called me to arrange the engineer visit but the cost of changing the cabling & fitting a new master socket will cost us, according to the engineer as he asked me whether to go ahead with replacing it all. Although I am not sure why it would cost anyway as that was all installed by bt so was there responsibility, also all the cabling was before the master socket so again that also tells me that it shouldn't cost anything.
But being as my father is registered disabled & blind I am curious to know whether he is liable for any fees or not for the work that was done, & if he is whether him being disabled would get the bill reduced.

  • IOS 5.0.1 wireless Bug - DHCP

We discovered an interesting issue yesterday on our network, and upon much searching, I didn't see anyone else with the same conclusion.
Allow me to start by describing the issue.  It's happened on a few occassions in our network over the past several months (we recently started allowing Apple iOS devices on our network as Exchange Activesync clients), but I was finally able to narrow it down today.
Issue: Certain iOS devices when connected to the wireless network retain their DHCP Lease from their home network in the background, while connecting to the business network with a like subnet.  The IP Address that the iOS device is retaining from home is NOT in the DHCP scope of the business network, but conflicts with a static assigned IP Address on one of the corporate network services (i.e. Print Server, Email Server, File Server, Database Server) in the like subnet.  For example "User A" running an iPhone 4S with iOS 5.0.1 has an Airport Extreme at home that assigns DHCP Addresses in the 10.0.0.x scope.  The Corporate DHCP Scope is 10.0.4.x-10.0.5.x with similar subnet.  "User A" connects to corporate network via wi-fi and is assigned an IP address of 10.0.4.x (but in the background the device is reserving 10.0.0.x from home Airport Extreme.)  Address 10.0.0.x belongs to back-end email server, and whenever "User A" turns their device on, it disrupts the network connectivity for the rest of the corporate network to the email server.  "User A" turns off wi-fi on iPhone, and normal corporate network operations resume.  In the past, the issue has conflicted with a less major server, or another windows client, and so a resolution was able to be acquired by renewing the IP Address on the Windows client computer.
The issue presents it self as one of our Windows Server machines complaining about an IP Address Conflict on the network.  Upon examining the Windows Event Viewer in the System Log, we discover an error message from the "Tcpip" service "The system detected an address conflict for IP address 10.0.0.X with the system having network hardware address 60:C5:47:XX:XX:XX. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result." Upon examining the mac address beginning with 60:C5:47 we discover this particular MAC Address range belongs to Apple Inc. (LINK)  This led us to search the building for the offending iOS device on which we were able to verify the Wireless MAC address.
In a similar forum post by a user in 2009, the suggestion was that the issue lay with the Windows computer.  Well, in that particular case, it was a Home PC, and the user was able to 'work-around' the bug by renewing their DHCP lease on their other client that was reporting the issue.  In our case, since the conflict occurs with a Network Server with a staticly assigned IP and services / certificates assigned to that interface, it's not as easy as renewing the IP address to allow the Windows computer to 'fix' the issue.  I believe the issue lies in the iOS wireless driver, and needs to be addressed by Apple Development team.  I'm not sure the best way to accomplish this, so I figured I'd start in the support forum. Since there wasn't a forum for iOS, I placed the issue under iPhone for Enterprise, though this issue is reproducable with iPad and iPod Touch also.
Here's a detailed post by Princeton University where they describe the issue in great detail. http://www.net.princeton.edu/apple-ios/ios41-allows-lease-to-expire-keeps-using- IP-address.html#chronology How can we get greater urgency to get this bug fixed?
    I'd appreciate response / suggestions / input / feedback.
    Thanks!
    DRO4LIFE

This is nothing a feature like DHCP Snooping, IP Source Guard and Dynamic ARP Inspection couldn't resolve.  Why on earth would this be affecting the rest of your network?  If everything is properly segmented, it shouldnt matter if that thing boots up with your e-mail servers IP address.  If it is, you are using a big *** network like a /16 and simply dishing out certain ranges to certain functions rather than using proper subnetting.  I really hope this is not the case as thats a big mistake.
If you have everything setup properly, I cannot see that device as affecting anything at all;  if it came up with that IP on your wireless subnet, no devices in other subnets should ever be trying to talk to that thing since that IP range is supposed to be reachable elsewhere, like your server subnet, not the wireless subnet.  Your other networks will always be forwarding traffic for your server to your server subnet, never to the wireless subnet.
If you are at all confused about what I am saying, let me ask you this.  What is the default gateway for your Wireless devices and what is the default gateway for your Servers?  If that answer is the same, there lies your problem.  Hire a network engineer to clean up that mess.  If it is not the same, then something like proxy ARP must be turned on since that incorrect IP should not affect anything other than itself with proper layer 3 boundaries.
If that is not an option, you should be able to use a combination of DHCP Snooping,IP Source Guard and Dynamic ARP Inspection to nip this problem in the butt if your running Cisco gear (if other gear, cross reference, I'm sure the feature exists with another name).  The only way for it to cause havok is if the offending device is producing an ARP reply for your servers IP.  If running Dynamic ARP Inspection, it should see the offender responding with an ARP for your servers IP which doesnt match what the DHCP snooping database has in it, and it will drop that ARP reply.  If by chance that offending device did try to transmit as your servers IP, IP Source Guard's dynamic PACL should have dropped that traffic since its source IP does not match what is in the DHCP Snooping database.
I am not doubting that a bug exists here, however a robust network infrastructure would not be affected by what you describe.  Those switch features were designed to halt malicious actions, whether performed intentionally or accidentally via a bug.  A network engineer worth his/her salt would have implemented that in their design.

  • Any simple workaround for the 'umount -a' bug?

On Arch 0.7.2 the installer seems to use a busybox version that has a bug (according to what I've read) or maybe busybox isn't built with the umount -a feature.
The thing is that 'umount -a' doesn't work so, after installation, the partitions aren't umounted which results in FS errors on the next boot.
As I'm developing an automated installation I don't use ArchLinux installation scripts but I stumble into this problem.
Anyone can think of a simple shell snippet to umount all mounted filesystems?
Something like a loop would do, but I can't think of anything simple.
Maybe I can even use an  updated ramdisk or update/patch busybox on the 0.7.2 initrd.

detto wrote:dunno exactly whats the problem :S
all the time ive installed arch using ext3 as fs it does indeed a quick check during first boot but that always looks like wanted to me, and also is only maybe 3-4 secs long. what fs are u using in installation?
well that check is probably the result of the filesystem not being umount ed correctly. The problem is supposed to be a bug in 'busybox', the program that's behind all basic comands on the installation. If you try to do 'umount -a' it doesn't work (it should umount everything).
My filesystem of choice is reiserfs, and it does handle problems like this. But that's not the point. There's a bug that needs to be fixed.

  • Weblogic bug when using setProperty?

              Hello,
              We're using Weblogic 5.1 SP8.
The bug (I think it's a bug) occurs when setting a property to an empty value:
the old value keeps remained.(see attachment)
The problem occurs when the scope is set to session (using request works fine,
              application I didn't test).
Will this issue being solved with installing SP9 (or 10?).
Is this a known bug? If not where should I submit it (I took a look at the site
but for now I didn't find a place where one can submit bugs)?
              All answers are welcome,
              Frederic Marius
              [att1.html]

              It's not a bug???
So it is logic that when the property is made empty (when you have previously
              assigned it a value)
              - the property IS CHANGED when the bean is in the request scope
              - the property IS NOT CHANGED when scope is session
This seems pretty confusing to me, and I can't imagine what could be the reason
              for wanting such a behaviour.
When the spec says you shouldn't change the value of a property when it's according
parameter has "" as value, that implies that you can only set values in a form
and not unset them anymore. Seems pretty strange to me.
Most logic behaviour is that the property is set to an empty string when you delete
the values from the input field.

  • IPhone SDK 6 : Bug with VIew controller Autorotation ?

Since i installed the Beta 6, the views that used to work fine now dont size properly after the orientation has been changed. For e.g. when i change the orientation the size of the view changes to 560 x 240. It should have been 480 x 320.
I should note here that i am not using the IB. I code my views and view controllers.
Am i missing something? Has anyone noticed a similar behavior?
    Thanks.
    -TRS

The issue is with UINavigationController navigationBarHidden property being set to YES. The view sizes properly after rotation if this property is set to NO which is the default.
This issue may be fixed in Beta 7 but i have not had a chance to verify it. Will test and post my results here.
I have filed a bug after an apple engineer at WWDC confirmed it is a bug.

  • Can you reproduce this weird playlist bug???

I see this on Windows 7 and Windows 8.   Spotify desktop app.   Curious if it happens for other people, or on any other platforms.
    1. Create a new empty playlist
    2. Add six albums each with at least 10 tracks.  I drag and drop the albums to the playlist, one at a time.  You should now have at least 60 tracks in the playlist.
    3.  Use the default playlist sorting method,  By that I mean, don't sort the playlist by song, artist, album name, or date.  Should be the order you added the albums.
    4.  Scroll to the bottom of the playlist and highlight all of the tracks in the last album.  Select the first track in the album with the mouse and then hold CTRL while you arrow down or mouse click to select the rest of the tracks.
    5.  Now drag the selected album up to move the tracks above the second to last album.   You're effectively swapping the bottom two albums in the playlist.
^^^ At this point I get an error message about adding duplicate tracks to the playlist.  Which is strange because I have not added any new tracks, I'm only  reordering them.
    6. Now create another new empty playlist.
    7.  Select all of the tracks in the first playlist.  CTRL-A works.   And drag and drop them to the new playlist
^^^  Notice the new playlist now has TWO copies of each album!   If the first playlist had 60 tracks, this one has 120!!!
Weird, eh?   Very frustrating when I make playlists of full albums....

Bug reproduced with LibreOffice 3.5.1.2 on Arch x86_64 here.
officeuser wrote:Can you also reproduce the bug? Can you create a gdb log of the bug according to these instructions?
I'm afraid I can't. At step 3, when I try to run base within gdb I get no further than the "Database assistant" dialog. Base freezes as soon as the main window is opened when running in gdb.

  • [BUG] apple's Clock timer app

Setting timer to 35 minutes makes a 34 minute timer on the clock.

I usually don't update immediately, in order to let others figure out the bugs.  Evidently 6.1.2 still has some significant bugs, according to some, and I've been holding off.
However, my son just updated his iPod to iOS 6.1.2 and this Clock bug is now fixed.
    Thanks for your help.
