Permissions cannot be repaired?

My daughter's 13" Mac Book no longer allows the permissions to be repaired.
I installed applejack which did not fix the problem.
Any suggestions?  Thanks
here are 2 screenshots , 1 from the top and one of the bottom.

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 and 10.6:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard changed the location of a number of system components.
Poster rccharles has provided this description of what it all means:
drwxrwxrwx
d = directory
r = read
w = write
x = executeable program
drwxrwxrwx

    I've copied several I Photo Libraries to external HD over the years.  Upgraded to Lion, now some libraries won't upgrade and permissions 'cannot be repaired' how do I access these photos/videos?

    We need to know the format. Is it a NAS? FAT or NTSC? Mac OS Extended (Journaled)? Any but the last of these will cause you issues.

  • Why permissions cannot be repaired?

    i have tried over and over again to repair disk permissions for my 320 GB HD on a 2010 Mac mini
    i still get the same laundry lst

    And you will.
    Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore
    You are always going to be a bunch that never go away.  But trust repair to do its job.
    Editorial: IMO doing repair permissions is really just a waste of time.  So I am not sure what prompted you to do it in the first place.

  • Warning Permissions Cannot Be Repaired

    I just purchased a new Imac with Leopard installed. After downloading the software updates, I ran permission repair and got a warning that stated that certain permissions have been modified but could not be repaired. After consulting with AppleCare I did an archive and install. I then ran repair permissions again and had no problem and no warning. I then downloaded the software updates and ran permission repair again, and again received the warning. Does anyone know what is happening? Or how to fix this? Thank you,
    -Bill

    Neil,
    I did another download of the update as well as the security update and now have a problem putting the computer to sleep. It takes about 20 seconds for it to be put to sleep whereas before it was instant. Also did not resolve the permission repair warning. Any ideas? Thanks,

  • Disk permissions that cannot be repaired

    I have two disk permissions that cannot be repaired and wanted to know if there was anything I can do about them. The are: Warning: SUID file "System/library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/OwnerGroupTool"has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Warning SUID file "usr/bin/lppasswd" had been modified and will not be repaired
    I just uninstalled Skype and reinstalled it than ran repair disk permission when these showed up. I have run repair disk permissions several times afterward and they always show up now. Thanks for any help!

    Installing OS X 5.5 combo upgrade will clear the problem. I had exactly the same warning downloaded the combo and install straight over the incremental 5.5 update and everything is now fine. Here is the link

  • SUID modified and cannot be repaired

    We've had several small problems on this iMac (3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.6.8). The latest is an iPod that disconnects immediately. (The iPod --with same cord-- connects fine on another Intel iMac.) When we repaired permissions we got a message "SUID file... has been modified and cannot be repaired." What's the SUID file? And could this be the source of the problem?

    The SUID message can be ignored. Here's a list of Permission Repairs you don't need to worry about:

    Not sure what's causing your other problems - can you elaborate, maybe someone will have some ideas.

    I am trying to authorize my computer and I get an error message: The required directory was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed. Help?

    I used Terminal to change the permissions on the folder in question.  I followed the instructions in this article:
    iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization
    In my case, the folder was there, so I needed the command to change permissions on the folder, not to create one.   I was hesitant to use Terminal b/c I know that if I made an error I could wipe out my hard drive or render my computer unusable.  So to be SURE I didn't make an error, I carefully copied the command from that page and *pasted* it into Terminal.  Also, before I could do anything in Terminal, I had to go change my admin password (it had been a blank password before and that's not acceptable for making changes in Terminal).  I was just super careful when entering my password or doing anything else while Terminal was open (making sure I didn't accidently hit the spacebar or another key, etc.)  And it fixed the problem right away.
    What was confusing for me was that the iTunes error message said to change permissions in the FINDER, which is what I was trying to do.  It didn't mention Terminal.  What would really be helpful is if Apple included a link to a page like this in their error message.

    You probably have to run one or all of the IPHOTO resets/repairs over your library.   Its in IPHOTO help which keys you have to hold down while opening IPHOTO.
    Sorry don't remember which keys.

    I have recently purchased this MacBook used and am trying to authorize it on the iTunes Store but even after uninstalling iTunes and re-installing it with a fresh copy I'm getting this error message: "The required file was not found or has a permissions error. • PDF error message "The file is damaged and cannot be repaired"

    Across several versions (upgrades) of Mozilla and from
    several sites I have a problem when viewing pages (ie.
    from MoinMoin wikis but also other CMS systems) with
    embedded PDF documents.
    I get an error dialog saying "The file is damaged and cannot be repaired" and a reference to a local cached copy of a
    ".tmp" file. If I right click on the link and "Save Link"
    as a local file then the PDF views correctly (and it renders
    correctly within the HTML page with other browsers such
    as IE).
    The page below (bizarrely) works for me, but similar
    documents fail on password protected sites.
    Any comments much appreciated. Thanks!

  • After iTunes 11.1 (126) Update - (iTunes) permissions won't repair?

    After the new iTunes 11.1 (126) update, not only was I disappointed that COVER-FLOW hadn't been reinstated (we knew that), I had the the little inconvenience of the wrong tracks playing when a specific track, or album, had been selected. For example, the new "Drenge" album was selected, but what was played was mix of Bob Dylan's "Desire" and Nirvana's "In Utero". I tried a few others and found that the new iTunes was sluggish and froze for short periods. When I tried to close it down a permanent freeze of the application occurred.
    Initially, I tried to remedy the problem by using "The Disk Utility" to do a disk repair. There was no need as the disk was fine, but the disk permissions, which were all fine prior to the iTunes update, were said to be repaired.
    However, when I tried to us iTune again the same problems occurred.
    I did another few permissions repair and found the same list of permissions were not repaired, all iTunes. (I have a copy of the list).
    I have an iMac (Mid 2011 version) which is running OS X 10.8.5 (12F37). I don't think that this is too old to be out of date, and has been running without a problem until the latest iTunes update.
    I reported this to iTunes support last week, They e-mail me back to say that I should contact Apple Support UK and would be charged for the pleasure of having support correcting the problem! HUH!
    To say that I was annoyed and upset was a little understated.
    I then uninstalled iTunes with "CleanMyMac" and reloaded a fresh iTunes 11.1 (126) from the Apple UK website.
    The inconvenience of reloading my entire iTunes Library, was a small price to pay for a fully functional iTunes. BUT, after doing so, I was extremely annoyed to find that my newly installed iTunes 11.1 (126) just refuses to repair and the disk permissions refuse to repair.
    iTunes contacted me again to say that they to were confused as to why this continues to be problematic? They suggested I do a disk partitioning and a reload of my entire Mac.
    I have spoken to the independent company that services all our Mac products and they suggested that a full clean install is more than likely to be the only solution.
    Before I do this,…  are there any other suggestions as to how I can resolve this??
    Any suggestion will be most welcome.
    Still, a very loyal Mac user!
    (Well, the loyalty is being tested to the limit at the moment).

    I would either try the iTunes forum or the Mavericks forum

    Yesterday I ran Disk Utility and came up with hundreds of permissions that needed repair.  I hit the "repair permissions" button and waited until it said they were repaired, but just for fun I hit the "verify permissions" button again, and they all came back!  I did this several more times and every time I would hit "verify permissions" I would get the same list.  What's up?  I've always suspected diagnostic programs, but this is Apple's own!

    Ignore them. They aren't errors. You will keep seeing the same ones. As long as you get the message "Permissions repair complete," you're OK.

    2007 MacBook Pro, was shut down properly last PM.  Today on startup, spins and spins but cannot get to log in screen.  Held option key with restart and using disk utilities the mac HD showing needs repair, but cannot be repaired.  Says save as many files as possible and reinstall software.  Can't save files, can't get into them.  Willing to reinstall without saving, but can't because only disk option for the reinstall showing is the repair disk, and it is showing as locked.  What to do?

    Sounds like the drive is starting to fail. Have you ever change the drive in that system? If not then it is time to think about doing that, the sooner the better.
