Permissions error when publishing on Mac

I get a "failed to publish to to web at path .../publish/web//project.htm. Make sure folder is accessible and that the file is not locked." when I try to publish. It doesn't seem to matter where I try to publish to, I get the same error. Perhaps it is the "//", I am not sure why it adds in the extra slash, but I am guessing that could be the issue? I have tried both the default directory suggestion and my desktop etc. Any suggestions?

Also encountered this issue, and also solved my problem by resaving the main file with an ".html" extension. Stupid bug, but brilliant bit of lateral thinking on your part… not sure that ever would have occurred to me. Thanks.

  • Publishing Error when publishing to .mac

I've been using iweb publishing for .mac for a while and recently, but recently whilst publishing it says that there is a publishing error. However the pages all seem to be there and working fine.
I've been saving the thing in iweb after attempting to publish (all of the edited pages remain red). It's been going on for a few weeks, at first I thought it was a fault with the .mac but now I am not so sure.
Any help is appreciated, it is an inconvenience more than an actual problem but it would be nice if it didn't do it.
    Thanks

Quit iWeb, delete the preference file Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist, restart your Mac, run Disk Utility to repair permissions, relaunch iWeb and do a "Publish all to .Mac".

OK, I just got off of the phone with Apple and still no joy. They had me try a few things that did not work, then told me to Archive and Install, which did not either. Anyway, thanks for the additional help very note worthy, but still no joy. Also an email to iTunes Support took me here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93061
I have a Users/Shared folder but since the files we are talking about are invisible, I can see how it is structured.
And by the way I tried this one
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3577004#3577004
and it did not work. However, when I install a fresh copy of Tiger on the external it did authorize the computer and was able to play the downloads. But coping the invisible file to my boot drive was not successful. But , like I said the music did play when I started up from the external. So I guess that may be my only solution, unless someone can tell what the correct directory is and where it for iTunes downloads.

  • WorkFlow Error when publishing

    Hello,
I am having errors publishing workflows. This was working and all of a sudden stopped. From the error message I am taking it as a permissions issue?
Here is the code it spits out:
System.InvalidOperationException: Operation failed with error System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.

Anyone have any thoughts? This happens with all sorts of workflows, even basic ones as shown in the above example!
    Thanks,

    Hi,
For your issue, Re-register the workflow service using command:
    Register-SPWorkflowService -SPSite 'https://myhost/mysite' -WorkflowHostUri 'https://workflowhost' -AllowOAuthHttp -Force
Reopened SharePoint Designer again and test again.

  • 404 error when publishing to FTP server.

I'm getting the 404 error when publishing my iWeb site to my FTP server.  Please help.
It says I have a good connection and publishes but then I get the error when I "Click to go to the site."  I've read where I have to upload the file to my server but with the file index_html.  Do I rename my iWeb file, domain, to index_html?

I'm getting the 404 error when publishing my iWeb site to my FTP server.  Please help.

A 404 errors means the file is not on the server.
Checking the connection is just testing the FTP connection.
I've read where I have to upload the file to my server but with the file index_html.  Do I rename my iWeb file, domain, to index_html?
Do I rename my iWeb file, domain, to index_html?
No, you don't. The domain file is where iWeb  stores its assets. It stays on your computer. It has no meaning outside it. iWeb publishes the index.html file and all the other files.
Read this : The concept of iWeb Sites
So if your pages do not load, check for their presence on the server.

  • Poor image quality when publishing to .mac

    This is very frustrating.
I buy a high resolution, high quality, royalty-free image. I resize it and crop it in my image editing program and save it as a maximum size .jpg.
I preview the image in Apple preview, and also drag the image into my web browser and it looks crisp and sharp.
I put the image on my iWeb page and publish to .mac. I check my site and the image looks horrible! It looks as though it got compressed again on the lowest setting.
Something very weird is happening to some people. I've read other discussion on this but they are all unresolved.
I'm a graphic designer and I've used dreamweaver and published to other servers. I know about image quality and optimization. I'm doing the same steps and procedures I've always done to optimize images and I've never had this problem except when I publish to .mac.
There is a very weird and serious issue going on and I hope someone can resolve this or has an answer.
Why would an image look crisp and sharp when I view it in my image editing program or in Apple preview, but when publish to .mac it gets re-compressed?
This may sound silly but do you think Apple is doing this randomly and automatically to users to save server space on .mac? Maybe they think people wont notice or care?
I am very upset and frustrated and I can't think of any other reason why this is happening.
    Any advice is helpful. Thanks!

    James,
Thank you very much for your help.
Here is what I did. I used Apple grab and took a screen shot of my iWeb page where the low res graphic was in position.
I used this as a "template" for cropping my original image in my image editing program to the exact size I needed.
I cropped my original image to the size of my "grab" template, deleted the template layer and saved the sharp image as a maximum file size .jpg and placed it into my iWeb page, with "use original size". It fit perfectly in my layout and looked sharp and crisp.
Now, I published my site and checked the image.
You were correct! The image came out crisp and sharp, no more quality loss.
To test your theory, I went back to iWeb and placed an iWeb mask around the same image and re-published it.
Sure enough! The same image that was once sharp had terrible image loss.
So I guess you're right, adding any effects to an image creates the image loss.
Well, this is a terrible shame because I really like some of the border effects. For example, in a photo gallery, you can use an effect such as a slight page curl with drop shadow that appears only for the thumbnail image but the when you click on the image full size, there is no page curl, just the pure image.
If I create this slight page curl effect and drop shadow in my image editing program, then both my thumbnail and full size image will have this effect.
Not only that, but in order to get the thumbnail image to lay over my background color, I would have to re-create the page curl effect and place it on a border of the same background color as my page layout. When someone clicks on my thumbnail they will now get the full size image with the page curl effect and a slight border of the page color.
Also creating this effect in my image editing program will make it more time consuming when I want to change layout styles, because when I create the page curl / drop shadow in my image editing program, I have to change the background color around each image to match the new background color I'm using for my page. Doing this for 20 images every time I want to change my design is allot of work.
If this is what I have to do, then I have no choice. But at least I would like my thumbnail to have the effect but NOT my full size image.
How do I do this so only my iWeb thumbnail image has this effect without iWeb forcing it to a PNG and loosing quality?
    Thanks I appreciate you help!

  • Java Error When Publishing

So I have an applicational prototype that I need to have out by the end of the day today, and all of a sudden Flash Catalyst states that the project cannot be published due to an error. It also said to check the Code view to see what's wrong. Yesterday it did say that the error was a "Java Heap Space" error, but today there is absolutely nothing in the problems listing even though it still outputs that there's an error when publishing the project.
The prototype builds and runs in the browser just fine, but it's publishing that becomes the problem. I am not a Flex developer by any means, but as a user experience designer, I understand how to edit some of the coding, so if anyone could shed some light on this, I will do my best to fix the problem with any solutions that will work.
    I appreciate the help guys!
    -- Rick

    To the original poster, Rick:
If you're seeing a "Java Heap Space" error message, this is a (not very user-friendly) way of the program telling you it's running out of memory.  Catalyst tries to detect and warn you when your project is getting too large, but it's not always perfect.
Did you see any warnings about the size of the images you've imported into your project?  Very large images can certianly be one source of problems.
Here are a few tips for dealing with large images:
Resize them to be smaller using a another app like Photoshop, before you import into Catalyst.  Shoot for a file size of 100-300 KB at the most, for very large "gallery"-style photos.  Other images should be < 100 KB (remember, people viewing your site will have to download all this).
In Catalyst, when you're done shrinking down an image to the right size, choose Optimize Artwork > Rasterize in the heads-up display to "lock in" the smaller size.
In Catalyst, choose Optimize Artwork > Convert to Linked Image for any especially large photos.  This can speed up the initial load time of your site, and it will also help avoid memory problems when publishing.
    Hope that helps!

  • Error when publishing to file

i keep getting "an unknown error" when publishing to file or publishing all to mobileme...
It still works if i just publish to mobileme.
    Any ideas?
Im trying to get my site going on go daddy, and kinda really need it in a folder...

If you are still getting the error then its likely that you have a corrupt domain file.
To prove this, quit iWeb, create a new folder on your desktop and drag your domain file out of - Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb - into this.
Relaunch iWeb to force it to create a new domain file, add some content and try publishing to a folder.
If this works, your original file is corrupt.

  • Adobe Captivate 6 Error when publishing

Help!  I having trouble publishing a training that my employees can view.  When they open the project they are getting the first image here that is essentially blank.  I have attempted to reduce the size and save to different folders etc. but nothing seems to work.

    Hi there,
Could you tell me the complete version of Captivate (Help > About Adobe Captivate).  6.0.1.240
Which version of Adobe Reader or Acrobat are they using?  Adobe Reader XI
Can you publish this locally on your system (not to network drive directly), check force republish option also, and are you able to view it on your end?  I can pull up the file from my computer that is saved in the same drive that the agents are attempting to pull up.  But, I am not sure if it is viewing for me because I have it on my system.

  • SharePointDesigner - Error when publishing a workflow

    Hi.
When i´m publishing my workflow, sharepoint designer rises the following exception:
"Error were found when compiling the workflow. The workflow files were saved but cannot be run." - "Unexpected error on server associating the workflow."
The workflow is really simple; i used some custom activities (to read details from an attached excel document) and then i have to do many checks and about 12 approvals.
I have recreated the workflow and it seems that adding the 7th approval creates this error; when publishing with 6 approvals everything is fine.
My Question: What is the error, where can i find more information regarding this issue, maybe it´s a bug in designer? Are there any known workarounds that can help? I really need so many approvals :-)
Is there a way to split the workflow in 2 or 3 parts, that can do the "job" of the big one?
I´m using Sharepoint Server 2010 with the current SPD (-> Microsoft Information Worker VM).
    Thx for help

I finally found a solution how to solve this issue:
In the web.config file of the current site collection (where i was publishing my workflow) i have appended a timeoutvalue for my requests:
    Old entry: <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="51200"/>
    New entry: <httpRuntime
    maxRequestLength="51200"
    executionTimeout="300"
    />
This will give my workflow some more time to publish!

Did you copy the text in there? Could be the following:
The problem is related to concept frames. Some concept frames have not regular charachters. Those characters aren't visible in the edit mode. The are only visible if you copy the text of the concept frame to word. In word use the button "display unknow characters". It seemed like they will appear if you copy and paste text in the conceptframes.
You need to copy the text of the editor to Word. Click on the button "display unknown characters" to see all characters in text (including e.g.enter and spacebar). Remove the strange characters such as small circles. Copy the text and paste it back into the editor.
Save the editor (and publish again).
    Good luck.

  • How I fixed an "unkown error" problem when publishing to .Mac

I recently experienced the "unknown error" when attempting to publish my iWeb sites to my .mac account. The error popped up early in the publishing operation, on a site that I had published many times before. I looked around in my iWeb domain folder, and noticed this file:
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites/cached_resources/configuration.apple.com/configuratio ns/internetservices/iapps/publishConfiguration.plist
Looking at the content (it contains XML data), it was obvious that the file was corrupt, with some data at the end missing. Maybe something went wrong when it was written. As it is in a directoy called "cached_resources", I figured, iWeb should be able to recreate it. So I quit iWeb, removed the file, restarted iWeb. Voila, the file was recreated, without corruption, and publishing works again without a hitch.

    Might the error be -50?

Make sure you are using the right password for YouTube. A few months back, they had everyone link their YouTube account to a Google account. If so, you may need to use the YouTube username, but the Google account password.
Try going to the YouTube web page and uploading it there. The same password should work.
