Permissions in Adobe 9

Hi,
I have Adobe Reader 9 on my desktop but am unable to amend the document. I have looked at permissions and it says that I'm not allowed to amend the doc. How am I able to do it as I need to update some details for our company.
Thanks

You can only amend the document if you have Adobe Acrobat, not Adobe Reader.

  • File permissions and Adobe Software

We have a problem with file permissions and adobe software. In Illustrator and Photoshop I can open files from the 10.4.7-server that are opened by another user at the same time and in Indesign, in the contrary, I cannot open any file on the server. Always error "no rights" or "is opened by another user", also if logged in as admin.
In MS Word for Mac we have no problem, if a file is open (Word) and I try to open the same file on another workstation, error "is open" is showed correctly. We have 3 10.4.7-Workstations and a 10.4.7-server on a G4/800. Can anyone help?

Assuming you're connecting via AFP, this may help:
    1. Start with current updates: Update your client and server software to version 10.4.8. Update Photoshop CS2 to 9.0.2, Illustrator CS2 to 12.0.1, and InDesign CS2 to 4.0.4.
    2. In Illustrator and Photoshop I can open files from the 10.4.7-server that are opened by another user at the same time.
This is actually not normal. Instruct your users to avoid opening files simultaneously, as this will result in lost data.
If you have SMB/CIFS access to the same share point, disable oplocks; allow only strict file locks.
If you've disabled the lock manager for AFP, re-enable it. It's enabled by default in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist.
    3. For InDesign documents that won't open, delete their corresponding lock files. Whenever InDesign CS or CS2 opens an .indd or .inx file, it creates a corresponding .idlk file that simply serves to flag the .indd/.inx file as open. If File.indd won't open, locate and delete File.idlk and try again. The lock file will be stored in the same folder as the document.
    4. Double-check your file permissions. Start by verifying the filesystems (Disk Utility/First Aid tab/Repair Volume button) of the server volume that houses the affected share point(s). You'll have to disable sharing to do so.
Ensure that your permissions are correct, and adjust them as necessary. Consider using an ACL to apply read/write access for users or groups, because ACLs offer the superior inheritance model. See my ACL Tips post (http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=1732788) if you haven't already.

  • File and folder permissions for Adobe Photoshop CS5

    Good day,
I am an IT specialist and I work for a Canadian governement agency and we are having an issue with Photoshop CS5. After successfully installing Photoshop CS5 from the Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium set(using a local machine administrator account), Photoshop crashes immidiatly after launching it(even with the local administrator account). The exact error message is as follows:
The instruction at "0x230dad8dc" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
I know this is an environement issue and not an application or hardware issue since I was able to successfully install and run Adobe Photoshop CS5 on a plain vanilla install of Windows SP3 XP on the same model of workstation(HP DC7800). This later also confirms it is not a RAM or video adapter issue either. My experience tells me it would be more related to file/folder permissions on the workstation(although I'm open to other suggestions).  Because we are a governement agency, our workstations have machine and user policies and desktop configurations that get applied to the workstations automatically upon joining our domain via GPOs and SMS. Certain system files and folder permissions may be locked down for security reasons therefor I was wondering is someone has a list of files and folders that Adobe CS5 needs access to upon startup in order to properly function?
If anyone would like more details or information please let me know and I'll try to be more specific.
Thanks in advance to all who take the time to read and help out!

I appreciate that you're trying to surmise what's different, and it's good that you have had success with similar/identical hardware.  At least you know it can work.
However, I wouldn't bet just yet that it's a permissions issue.  I'd think you should get a specific error if a locked-down file needed to be accessed, not a null pointer crash.  The Photoshop installer should be setting up the proper permissions on its own files for it to run.
Is it exactly the same video card as the other computer, on which Photoshop works?
Are you sure the video drivers are up to date with the same version as on the other computer?
At exactly what point during startup does the failure occur (i.e., is the splash screen showing, and what does the status line in the splash screen say it's doing)?

  • Permissions issues - Adobe CC programs

    Hi,
I have been having continuous problems with the new Adobe CC programs, and after many times of running Adobe's cleaner tools, reinstalling and following the suggestions laid out by Adobe and the forums with no success  - I am am going to try here.
I believe this to be an OS issue, not an Adobe one.
Photoshop - hanging after it opens and you try to use it. For awhile, it stops responding then just starts working.
AfterEffects hangs during open (apparently a support doc for this alone) - then opens after about 5 minutes.
And Premiere just won't flat open.
Now - according to Adobe I should "enable TCP between software".   And, then there is the repair permissions and such for folders, files, etc.
So - other than Disk Utility > Repair Permissions, is there a step I could be missing?
And how does one enable TCP communication between software? Even when I access it all locally and have the firewall off?
I am at a loss for what to do.
    Thanks...
    Scott

What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
    ATI Driver Autodetect http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool
    nVidia Driver Downloads http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Do you have dual graphics adapters?
Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound and then select Device Manager... In Device manager you click the + sign to the left of Display Adapters... and see if 2 are listed

  • How to effect a "Permissions repair" (Adobe F.P.)?

To elaborate, I have an OS X (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) and recently received, like so many others, the "blocked plug-in" message for most of my attempts to view videos, largely on YouTube. I seemed to have succeeded in "uninstalling" the old Adobe F.P. that I had procrastinated updating. Then I installed the latest (hopefully) version: 11.7.700.169 and everything seemed fine. Then I happened to skim an old Apple Support Community dialogue wherein one reader warned
that the last important step was to make and complete a "Permissions repair."  I started to follow his steps, but it seemed complicated and when he further warned of "security issues" I got a little gun shy.  Anyone who can walk me through this process, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks, R. from W.

Long version: Save and/or quit your applications & doucuments  Go to Applications>Utilities Folder  Click Disk Utility.
Click the Volumn (HD) that you want to check.
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button. (Don't worry about verifying)
At the bottom of window when the repairs have finished, you will see the “most important thing”: Permission Repairs Complete The previliges have been repaired or completed on the selected volumn.
    Restart your computer (Optional).
Short version:  Go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility and select your volume and then select Repair Permissions.
Same directions are also in the OS Mac Help Menu.

  • How do I edit the permissions that Adobe Media Server creates directories with?

OS: CentOS 6.6 AWS-provided AMI found here
I'm using Adobe Media Server 5.0.7.
I have my application set up so that when a user records a video to the server, it goes into its own directory.
If this directory does not exist, it is created automatically by AMS. The problem is that this new directory is created with a permission level that prevents my other app from reading and accessing objects inside of it.
How can I tell AMS to create directories with a permissions level that I specify?

I was reading up about nellymoser on Wikipedia (the most reliable source!) and it seems like Adobe has problems with the licensing for nellymoser. They apparently tried to release a standalone converter, but the licence agreement that was inherited with the codec didn't allow it.
So maybe it's just a rock in a hard place situation. Really too bad, if this is the case, that a company can own something but not be able to allow their customers to use it fully.

  • How can I get my web cam to work in Adobe Connect ?

This is actually an end user's question that I am having trouble answering to...
We use Adobe Connect to give online language classes, the end user is one of the students.
I cannot find the right Support answer to give him.
    Problem:
My camera does not work when I connect to Adobe's rooms but camera works fine with other software.
Even though I suspected my old camera was working fine, yesterday I went ahead and bought a new camera.
I thought perhaps my webcam software may have been a problem, so I bought a different type camera with different software.
Even after removing all the old software, same result:
I surmised the problem might be caused by my firewall and security software, so once I tried changing the permissions for Adobe, and my Webcam, but that didn’t work.
Another time, I restarted my computer right before class and then turned off my firewall completely so there would be no interference but to no avail. I’m totally perplexed.
Isn’t there anyone else experiencing a similar problem?   Has anyone else found a solution?
I run Windows Vista with McAfee Internet Security Software.  I always reboot the computer before class and open no other programs other than Google Chrome.
I now have a brand new Microsoft LifeCam Cinema Camera with LifeCam 3.5 Webcam Software.
I test my camera before going online.  It always works fine.   Then I shut down the camera program and login into class.
When I “connect webcam” in the room, the light on my camera comes on (suggesting that it is ON), but only a black image is transmitted to the room.

Check to see if you have Google Voice installed. If so, remove it and see
if your problem vanishes. If not Google Voice, check to see if you have
any other communications software which interacts with your cam and
disable it. This was the problem I had with a similar problem on a Mac.

Thanks a lot Heyward for the swift reply !
I sent the advice out to the end user, but unfortunately this wasn't the
    solution.
    His reply is below :-
The default resolution of my new camera is already set at 640x360, but I
went ahead and tried several lower resolutions (e.g. 424x240; 320x240; and
160x120) but none worked in the room - camera still showed up as black
blank screen.  Also, as far as I can tell, I don’t have the option of
    adjusting the frame rate.
I started playing around with my Internet Security Settings to see if they
might be playing a role. So far, all to no avail.
Hmm...quite a tricky one - webcams always are - maybe if he can find a way
to adjust the frame rate (?).
He's going to fiddle about with the settings a bit more and see if
    something does the trick.
If anyone has had a similar problem and found an ingenious solution,
please jot on a note on this thread.

I'm mainly working with CS5 Design Premium Suite (running OS 10.6.3) with users/myself and haven't been able to solve this problem. We utilize Active Directory logins and give the users admin rights ( I know...I know gotta love education). To get right down to it I'll list what I've tried on my machine and on someone else's with the exact problem.
    - MADE SURE NO OTHER ADOBE APPS OR AAM IS RUNNING AS A PROCESS (duh)
    - deleted any local adobe pref files, cache files and adobe application support files.
    - deleted login keychain
    - ran disk permissions
    - ran Adobe Cleaner and reinstalled the whole suite numerous times...did nothing
    - tried using both a different local and AD account, this did infact allow me to run the updates. This proves that either local accounts or AD account      can work...just not mine!!
    - I've even moved my user folder data so next time I logged in, it would create a new user folder. This still produced the same error. Does it have to      do with anything in the user directory services and permissions??
One pattern I found was using another account whether if it was a new local account or a fresh AD account logged in, I would get the prompt for the AAM to edit the system.privilege.admin file prior to it searching for availible updates. Logging in has myself I don't get this.... therefore it goes straight to the error message.
I hope there's a fix for this, I've learned far more than I ever wanted to learn about the file structure of the vast CS5 suite and its smaller AAMUpdater counterpart.

I have the same issue, particularly with Pixel Bender 2.5, all the other upgrades get installed correctly without trouble but this one always fail, the message I get is the same one every time:
Adobe Pixel Bender Toolkit 2.5 Update
      Installation failed
Can you point me in the right direction? It seems to me that the patch is faulty.
    Thanks.
    Update 01/15/2011
Here's another update on my issue with Adobe Application Manager, I just realized today that actually none of the available upgrades got installed. Although it only marks an error with Pixel Bender, other components such as Photoshop, Premiere and others aren't being upgraded either even when the program tells you otherwise, what I mean is that for example there's Photoshop 12.0.2 available for download so I click on "Update"; the files get downloaded and installed with no error message being displayed but when I check the software it is still version 12.0.1, the same is happening with Premiere and another one, can't remember which one.
This is additional to the issue of Pixel Bender being unable to upgrade.
    Please advise,
    Thanks,
    David.
    Update 01/16/2011
I tried to download all the available updates individually from the Adobe website, the only one that went through was Photoshop, but then when I double clicked it to install it the same faulty application manager launched and I got the same behavior than before, it runs the installation and displays a message that states that everything was installed correctly, yet there no upgrade performed.
All the rest of the available downloads failed to mount.
Also the speed for download is excessively low, I checked my connection and the issue is not on my end, but yours.
This is starting to become very frustrating.

  • Adobe Application Manager. Error: Updates could not be applied. You are already running the Adobe...

    Hi Guys
I am having a rather frustrating issue with my Photoshop CS6. I have been trying to run the updates for hours now as my Photoshop CS6 is slow and unresponsive. I have an i7 Mac and 16GB of RAM. it should not be slow.
    Anyway.
I keep getting this error each time I try to run the updates.
    I have:
    Restarted
    Repaired permissions
    Reinstalled Adobe Applications Manager
    Nothing works.
    Pulling my hair out.

I have even tried manually downloading the update DMGs and doing it that way but the error persists.

Re: CS6 updates and Mac write permissions
Need Adobe help to solve this. My own searches in Forums and Google all have failed.

It is not an Adobe problem. You have a OS permissions problem. You can try to correct this by using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions. It is in the First Aid area of Disk Utility.

  • Error:6 when a non-admin user tries to run Adobe Photoshop Elements 9

Loaded Photoshop Elements 9 on a computer that is not on the internet and works fine as long as the user logging into the computer has admin privileges but a user who does not have admin priviledges gets an Error:6 that says to uninstall and reinstall the product.  Uninstalling and reinstalling the product has no effect.  I believe this to be that the normal user doesn't have permissions to a file somewhere that it needs to write to but can't seem to locate that file as I have given write permissions to Adobe under Programs & Common Files but no success.

  • Adobe Premier 10 - Online Services encountered an error.

    HELP
For about 4 or 5 days I have been able to Share to Facebook my little videos Via the Online Facebook built into Premier 10.
After some permission problems things started working and I was able to post a couple of video that I made
directly out of premier over a period of several days.
Today when I tried to post an error was returned "Online Services encountered an error. . . . . "
I had not even re-booted my system nothing had changed.  I have tried to post a video that I had
already posted, same error.  Went to facebook and removed permissions for Adobe to access my
account, thinking that maybe this would cause a re-set of some kind, but alas no, same error.
If I try to post to you tube the program gets to a user name password screen, but I don't have an account there.
Shut down by firewall, but same error.
    Anyone have any ideas.
Is there a format that I can produce and then manualy upload that would work as well?
    Dave

With nothing changed at your end it is most likely a problem at Facebooks end. Try again later and see if it works again.
To manually upload follow the suggestions in the FAQ : How can I get the best quality on YouTube?

  • All was well until 10.7 + MAMP + xCode. Now...misery. Why?

I'm a port from the PC universe. Been loving my iMac since 10.6 for about 2 years now. Recently, I decided to stop programming on the PC and move to the Mac and open source, namely PHP to start. That mean installing MAMP. No harm. Then, I entered the world of debuggin PHP without a debugger. Not fun. So, I joined the installed xDebug. Whoa! Problems all over. Issues Galore. Addressed the issues, joined the $99 developer community, downloaded xCode (for the compiler), upgraded to 10.7 Lion and fixed all sorts of stuff: paths, ini files, got pear working, php-config, phpize, xdebug.so extension.
Now that xdebug works, I downloaded JetBrains PHPStorm for my debugger along with Dreamweaver CS4 that I've owned all along. All should be well and good, but not so.
    1. All of my Adobe CS products went to ****. I had to re-install and lost 2 yrs worth of customizations, plug-ins etc. That was Adobe's best suggestion.
    2. My external disk drives locked up, there were now permission issues on all, but my internal drive, so I couldn't get to my Time Machine backups. In any case, I had changed so much I'm not sure it would have helped.
    3. Reformatted all external drives. Lost all, but nothing there was that precious. One drive is a scratch disk, the other was my backups. I immediately made another TM backup. All went well after re-format.
    4. Download OS X.7.3....Whoa, more issues. Mainly permissions. Adobe went to **** again, but I'd already lost everything that mattered, so I trudged through the permissions thing (Library and System seemed to be the primary offenders here). User System now exists everywhere and user "Me" is gone, as is user "Administrators" group. Tried getting rid of user system. Bad, bad idea. Started over, then just tried to add Me and Administrators group. Worked out.
    5. Reinstalled Adobe a 2nd time.
    6. Now, some of my drivers, namely HP Scanjet aren't working, download, reinstall, fix that.
    7. Reinstalling HP drivers mucked up permissions again and I get all these Library permission issues on bootup. Fixed that for the 3rd or 4th time now.
There's more, but you get the idea. All I wanted to do in the beginning was use PHP 5.3 and be able to debug it. Now I have a "hard way" degree in debugging, Unix, and the mac OS. And, I still don't know what I've done wrong.
This permissions issue keeps cropping up. I've done the Verify/Repair Permissions thing a few times, same for the hard drive. doesn't seem to have an noticible effect.
Is there some sort of utility out there (or already here) that will help me get my machine stable once again. I've logged probably 40 hours doing the above and this is darn near reminding me of my life with a PC--but I had 30 years of driving that crate, so it wasn't as frustrating.
It's all about permissions and my user being installed, or not, in various locations that I'm guessing it used to be installed in. Plus, it seems RW permissions have changed to R. I've used Terminal to fix some of this along the way, and get all working correctly, but I'm scared now to turn off the darn machine, or to upgrade "anything" on it.
    Advice is welcome.
    Regards and thanks to all.
    Dan
PS: Crap, I see a 10.7.4 on the OS dropdown. I could have gone all night without seeing that!

It sounds like you're randomly setting file permissions without any idea of what they should be. In nearly all cases, they should be whatever the software installer makes them. On very rare occasions, it may be necessary to repair the permissions of system files after running a defective third-party installer. It's certainly necessary if you've "mucked up" those permissions yourself. You may have mucked them up so badly that they can no longer be repaired in the usual way. In that case, boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup) and run Disk Utility. That, at least, is safe from being mucked up, but it won't fix everything; only Mac OS system files.
If a third-party product doesn't work, reinstall it, and resist the temptation to change the permissions. If it still doesn't work, contact the developer for support.
Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Back up all data now. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset the password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.
