Permissions issue when seeing DVD drive in Encore

Hi,
I currently have an issue when using CS4 Premiere Pro Encore in that I can see the DVD drive available (build) when I have admin rights to the machine, but when I change those admin rights to Power User, the DVD drive is not seen by Encore. I am using the Roxio DE 10.3 (Dell's cut down version) as a DVD/CD writing software.
I would be very grateful for any help on this issue.

As far as I know, Premiere/Encore REQUIRE Aministrator right to operate fully

• Encore CS3 does not see dvd drive

When I log onto a pc in our labs as a regular user and open Encore the dvd drive is not seen by Encore.
Logged in as an administrator, I can see the dvd drive in Encore.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem without giving admin rights to students?
Thank you for your time and assistance.

As far as I know, Encore is not written as multi-user, the operator must have full use of the computer

• Permissions Issue on Internal Hard Drive?

I was having problems with an iMovie file, and I discovered that by moving that file to an external hard drive, the problems magically went away. I've noticed some other things as well—leading me to believe that I probably have a permissions issue with that original drive.
I've done a "get info" on that drive and all privileges say "Red and Write." I've repaired permissions also, but it's less than confidence-instilling when it finds about 50 problems every time I do it and they're the same problems every time.
Do the problems with this drive sound like a Permissions issue, a Privileges issue, or is it likely to be a different problem with this drive?

Not Permissions, probably. More like Privileges. There are 2 drives that sometimes won't let me save things to them. It tells me I don't have privileges when I'm the only one who uses this Mac. Doesn't do it all the time—only under certain circumstances, which I haven't quite defined yet. I put that together with this iMovie problem on one of these drives and assumed that they went together.
Again, iMovie was giving me buggy problems while the file was on that drive. Moved the file to an external drive and now it's stable as can be.

• Permissions Issue, Colour Wheel, Hard Drive Issue??

Hi!
I have had issues with my mid 2009 MBP recently and I'm wondering what the best way to fix them would be.
First off, I have some major permissions issues with my accounts. I am using 3 different users regualrly on the same machine and needed to access files from the home folder so I changed them a long time ago, and am not sure how to fix that. I have repaired the permissions countless times in the disk utility and it seems like there's always loads more to do each time. When I varify the disk, it says its all okay.
Secondly, I have had the machine freeze on me several times while doing very little on it. This happened awhile ago, and thought that it was just the permisions thing and so I did that again, and it started working better, for awhile. It would go a few days or weeks before doing the same thing, sometimes not even getting past the apple logo on startup before freezing. This makes me think it may be a hard drive issue???????
This morning, I tried dozens of times to boot, with no success at all..... until about the 25th time when it miraculasly booted. I have run permissions repair a few more times and it seems to be working okay at the moment, but the problem seems to be happening more often over time.
To complicate matters, I am traveling at the moment and will not be home for several months. I purchased an external harddrive last night and was able to successfully back up my data.
Question 1: Is it the permissions that are causing these problems, or is it related to something else. The computer seems to work fine when its working, and then once in awhile, decides its not going to do anything.
Question 2: Would upgrading to Lion (currently running 10.6.8) fix the permissions issues or just carry them forward? I would like to consolidate the 3 users into one, if that would solve it. Does the migration utility preserve permissions or does it give you a brand new start?
Question 3: If neither solving the permissions or the OS upgrade would fix the problem and it does need a new harddrive, is it possible to buy one and install it myself? I do not have apple care left on this machine and am on a very tight budget. I am used to taking things apart and all that as part of my job and it seems simple enough. Where can you buy a replacement??
Hopefully someone out there will be able to help me out on this one.
Cheers!!!!
Brian

Disk Utility permissions are separate from User account permissions.
This link is how to fix them

Disk Utility will always show something to be needing repair, but that's ok

Verify Disk is good, that's a good thing.

Your data is backed up, hopefully not with TimeMachine alone, but if you did, then get another drive and backup data manually to that as well. If the TM drive gets messed up, it's a pain to get your data off of it.
Question 1: Is it the permissions that are causing these problems, or is it related to something else. The computer seems to work fine when its working, and then once in awhile, decides its not going to do anything.
Well you could call Apple for replacement 10.6.x disks, and just reinstall 10.6 and bundled programs, but this can kick out kext files out of the /System/Library/Extensions folder installed by some third party software.
This method fixes OS X, but doesn't touch your files or most programs.
Nor will this method fix your Users accounts if the issue is in there.
A creation of a new user, then deletion of the others, return files from backup (set permissions) will fix User folder issues if the above user permissions fix doesn't work.
(Of course you could wipe the drive from the 10.6 disk, but you have to install all software again)
Would upgrading to Lion (currently running 10.6.8) fix the permissions issues or just carry them forward?
No, you don't want to install Lion, it won't fix those issues in User folders, not only that Lion has it's own issues and doesn't work with a lot of older software etc. No use clusterfscking a already bad situtation when it's seems it's only localized to the User accounts.
I would like to consolidate the 3 users into one, if that would solve it.
Yes that could very nicely and tidy up things in the process.
What you do is transfer all files to one regular powered storage hard drive.
(Don't use/disconnect the TimeMachine drive for this as it preserves the users seperated and you don't want all those users back restoring with Migration Assistant)
Create the New User on the machine as Admin, log into it and delete all the other Users, transfer all your files back from the regular storage drive, changing all the permissions to yourself before placing them into their respective folders as they will have three different permissions.
Notes:
If you have a extensive iTunes playlists on one User (say #1), then create the new user with that same name (will require some work, create User 4, delete Users 1-3, reboot, create User 1, delete User 4) then transfer your iTunes folder to Music of that User 1 (same name as before). This will preserve the pathnames of your song locations and your playlists will be preserved.
(before you ask, no you can't combine playlists)
Also if you have photo's in iPhoto Library, you have to right click on it and "show package contents" inside is a folder called Originals, copy them out and import into the iPhoto of the User #1.
Does the migration utility preserve permissions or does it give you a brand new start?
Yes it preserves user permissions, no it doesn't give you a brand new start. Only a fresh install, creation of new users and then just transferring of files does that.
Nothing about TimeMachine or Migration Assistant gives one a "fresh start", it's if hosed, so is your restore.
If you want that sort of pristine protection, you need to clone your ideal boot partition/drive using Carbon Copy Cloner (free/donationware) occasionally as a hold the option key bootable drive, then you can erase and reverse clone the pristine saved clone.
One can also update the clone on occasion, this way keeping the clone pristine.
I maintain 3 clones time dated, even have my boot drive partitioned 50/50 and auto-cloned, this way I have two boot partitions on the road and two externals at home.
I never use TimeMachine, it's not bootable (well it is on 10.7.2 only to restore though)

• Permissions issues when getting started

Hi, I'm trying to create a test "Hello World" app on our IIS server. When the user clicks a button a pop up should say "Hello World!", which is a string returned by a WCF web service on the same server. I have no problem getting the service to work on an aspx page. But in Flex debugger I get the error:
[SWF] /TestProject2/TestProject2.swf - 1,110,380 bytes after decompression
Warning: Domain our-server.local.ourserver.com does not specify a meta-policy. Applying default meta-policy 'master-only'. This configuration is deprecated. See http://www.adobe.com/go/strict_policy_files to fix this problem.
Error: Request for resource at http://ftp-server.local.mycompany.com/Service_Upload.svc/basic by requestor from http://upload.mycompany.com/TestProject2/TestProject2.swf is denied due to lack of policy file permissions.
*** Security Sandbox Violation ***
Connection to http://our-server.local.mycompany.com/Service_Upload.svc/basic halted - not permitted from http://upload.mycompany.com/TestProject2/TestProject2.swf
I've created a crossdomain.xml file and tried various settings to try to open up access, including adding *.mycompany.com *.local.mycompany.com, etc., and at the moment I'm using this.
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!-- http://upload.mycompany.com/crossdomain.xml -->
<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-access-from domain='*' to-ports='*' />
</cross-domain-policy>
No matter what I do I get the permissions error when my Flex app calls the following function:
<![CDATA[
import com.mycompany.HelloResultEvent;
import com. mycompany.Service_Upload;
import mx.controls.Alert;
public function sayHello():void {
var service:Service_Upload = new Service_Upload();
service.addhelloEventListener(
function (event:HelloResultEvent):void {
Alert.show(event.result);
service.hello();
]]>
I got a demo project to call an external service. Why am I getting this permissions error on my own server, especially when the service and the swf are on the same server and the crossdomain.xml seems to clearly open up permissions?

Hi Louellen
After you go to 'eprintcenter.com' and click the sign in button there will be another window with a sign up button, after you sign up it will ask for the printer code. After that you will be asked if you want to customize your printers email address.

• How do I install new OS when (a) DVD drive doesn't work, (b) current OS corrupt

I've got a real conundrum.
I've got a Mac Pro 2x2.8 server from 2008 running OS Leopard Server 5.8... I just bought the Snow Leopard Server software on CD and was going to install when two things happened. Firstly, i discovered my CD drive didn't work... and my Super Drive didn't show up either... Secondly, the current operating system has become severely corrupted, which means I can't even load up the system.
I've tried pressing C, D, Option, Shift, Command S and Command V during startup, but not getting anywhere.
And I can't install any new software because I can't use my DVD drive - internal or external.
W-T-F-Do I do?
Is there any way to transfer the Snow Leopard CD contents onto a hard drive and load via USB / Firewire?
Bright ideas and inspired suggestions much appreciated.
Jay

For Leopard or Snow Leopard you need an installer DVD.
1. You can purchase replacements for the original discs from Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support.
2. Buy a new Snow Leopard DVD.
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

• 865PE BIOS can't see DVD drive

Hi Folks,
I'm having trouble getting my BIOS to see my DVD burner so I can boot from it (It doesn't show up as one of the boot choice options). This IDE drive is connected to my PCI Maxtor/Promise Ultra 133 TX2 IDE controller. I do have 3 IDE and 2 SATA harddrives connected, and all 5 of those devices are available as a boot choice, just not the DVD drive.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated :)

dont think that has a bios in the sense you mean like a raid card
it has one tells it about drive settting it senses as a drives connected
but not like a raid card were control plus f gets you in its own bios
just hook it the dvd up to the boards ide
and put another none boot drive on the promise

• Error -70001 when changing DVD drive region for last time

Hi there,
I am trying to change my DVD drive from region 2 to region 1. This should be the last time I am able to change regions, but I am still getting an Error -70001 which prevents me from making the switch.
Can anyone help me get around this?
Another forum said I need to find a disk that can only be read in the region I want to change to (in this case region 1), but so far I have had no luck with this method.
Thank you all so much for any help on the issue.

Are you sure the DVD is region 1 ONLY? You can't always trust the label. I have a three DVD boxed set that says region 1. One of the DVDs is multiple region.

• HP Pavilion dv9925nr laptop unable to see DVD drive.

A friend of mine has this laptop that is unable to recognize CD or DVD
installed on this Laptop. This device doesn't show up in device manager
or BIOS setup at all. So how do I correct this problem? The laptop is
running Windows Vista home.
Thanks in advance
George H.

Try this. From Vista, got to this website:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Go to the Resolution 2 and run the CD/DVD drive autofix tool. It will work online and try to correct some software issues that might be blocking the drive from working.
If that does not work post back and we can walk you through some other possible repairs and ultimately it may just be a bad drive that needs to be replaced. We can help with that, too.

• Tecra A9 - cant see DVD drive.

My DVD drive appears to work when a disk is inserted i.e., makes the usual spinning noise for about 20 seconds, but then stops. It does not show when a CD is inserted on "My computer". Rebooted but still no success. Device Manager says "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)". Any ideas?

Hi
You have to remove the upper and lower filters from the registry key
But before you will do this you should access the device manager and should remove the CD/DVD drive.
Then start the registry.exe and remove the the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Finally reboot the unit!

• Re: Satellite A200-209 - Windows 7 can't see DVD Drive

Hey
Ive reinstalled my PC (again) from Windows 7 to Windows 7 and some time after i got this problem.
My DVD Drive is "unseenable" by Windows and it cannot read any disks.
I think its something about drivers, but i cant find any DVD driver :P
THX.

Hi
Your message is a little bit confusing.
You mean the CD/DVD drive is not visible in MY Computer?
In such case Ive got a solution for you.
In most cases its upper & lower filter issue.
You would be able to solve this by deleting the drive from the device manager and to remove the upper and lower filters from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

• Trying to see DVD drive through DVD sharing. iMac does not see MacBook. DVD sharing is ON.

I have an iMac with a non-working DVD drive and I'm trying to install Snow Leopard from my MacBook's DVD drive. I have turned DVD Sharing ON but the iMac does not see the DVD drive in Finder's Shared Devices. I have tried FireWire, LAN through TimeCapsule and WiFi. Am I missing a step?
The iMac and MacBook are both late 2007 purchases and have 10.5.8.
Thanks for any help.

Two commands you need to type in terminal on the computer that has the dead drive.
Disk sharing like the macbook air does is one of those things that's included in all OS X's on all computers, but that is not enabled. (I think it's cause apple doesn't want to have to support it on more devices that they absolutely have to)
So here's how you enable it.
In your Utilities Folder, open Terminal
copy and paste each line:
sudo -s
*type your password*
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser EnableODiskBrowsing -bool true defaults write
com.apple.NetworkBrowser ODSSupported -bool true
shutdown -r now
Okee dokee... That last command will restart your computer, then you're off to the races!

• Quality loss when playing DVD authored in Encore on a HD flat screen

Hi,
I authored a DVD in Encore and i noticed that when i played it on my pc it looked fine but when played using a DVD player on a HD flat screen and projector there is a significant quality loss- the image became pixelated and glittery. I tried playing 3 other professional videos and they were all fine. Something must be wrong in the way i am authoring my video. The encore file is set to 720x576 at 25fps. I created a .psd menu page to match these dimension and besides the movies, both the menu page i created and the menu templates that are already there in the library when you buy the software, look glittery when played with a projector or HD flat screen and projector. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Eric

Lack of control over users players/TVs is a problem. And you can try to provide some instruction.
You are right to test your product to see if you have a reasonable chance of your DVDs looking good.
First, test them on a DVD player and a standard definition TV. Your test on the PC is not sufficient. If they do not look good here, you have problems somewhere in your workflow. (I suspect this is the case. In my tests below, I see no flashing or issues like what you describe.)
If okay there, you need an upscaling DVD player to test on your HD TV. You should also explore the options on that TV for setting size.
For example, I just put a DVD in my Bluray player (hooked via HDMI to an HD 1080p TV). I can set the player and the TV separately to various resolution settings. Forcing the player to 480 and the TV to Normal gives a picture that looks like the original version, using a regular DVD player set to a 4:3 TV. But when I set the Bluray player back to "HDMI auto" (for the resolution), and the TV to normal, I see a pretty respectible picture.
I did the same sort of test using a regular DVD player via regular AV cable. Discovered I had it set to the wrong TV type! I could not see a lot of difference in the picture, even if I stretched it. (It was distorted, of course, but not pixelated, just not the crisp look of HD.)
