ok so since this weeks update by microfail it would seem my permissions are all over the shop, im being locked out of files ( psd) I cant get permissions due to this stupid "special permissions" which means even as admin on my own machine creating content for my clients I cant get access to!!! what is going on, this is ridiculous! ive even got one file I cant open because it says I don't have permissions to do so and I cant change permissions because it also says I don't have permissions to change it!!! who does?? its my machine, my work, do I have to get intouch with some sweaty little coder at Microsoft to change this. Adobe this is a ridiculous state of affairs and its costing me time and money, why are you not sorting this problem out?
While staff members may drop in on their time, this forum is basically users volunteering to help other users.
The one thing Adobe programmers will tell you is they can report issues to Microsoft or Apple, but they can't fix the OS code or tell either party what to do. Their job is to comply with the OS makers' rules when coding.

Permissions problem with old Windows XP folders & files
Hi,
I migrated about 8.7 gig of files (21,742) from a set of folders on a Windows machine some time ago. I know keep them on my iMac HD and access them through VMWare Windows XP instances and shared folders.
I want to copy the entire folder to an external drive for taking to client sites, use on windows laptops etc.
However, there are long standing file permission errors within the folder structures that raise the following error during a copy.
"The operation cant be completed because you don't have the permission to access some of the items".
I have tried setting the permissions on the top level folder, setting the bit to "apply to enclosed items". I have run disk repair, permissions repair & I have used Disk Warrior to do the same. I have removed as many of the dodgy Windows style files that are unrecognisable (eg. .LNK files) but no joy.
I tried running a SUDO CHOWN command recommended in another post, but it didn't work.
Does anyone know what might be at the root of the problem. I need an automate solution to this as there are too many folders & files to deal with individually and if I start chucking things out Murphy's law says I will need the ones I ditch.

EricDownload a program called BatChmod and use it to change all of the permissions. It works better than the Finder at fixing permissions on a deep folder hierarchy.
Chown only changes the owner of the files. It doesn't change the posix permissions.
Chmod is the command that changes the posix permissions. You can use BatChmod to do it in a GUI, or use this in Terminalsudo chmod -R u=rwx, go=rx after copying this to the Terminal, drag your folder to the Terminal window and hit return. -
10.4.6 update permissions problems
Anyone know how to solve the permissions problems from the 10.4.6 update. For some reason after doing the update we can read only from our servers and they have a little lock icon next to them!!

iMac v10.7.4. Error message says disk is locked. Permissions set for read/write admin (me). Can't open iTunes, Mail, photoshop, adobe bridge [you do not have permission!]. Fonts in Word are unexpected, not cambria. Used Disk utility to repair permissions (ran it twice, once before reinstalling photoshop from DVD; once today). Situation worsening.
Permissions problems occurred after I downloaded Lion update on 6092012. I believe the problem originates with Lion (see the 19 pages of posted problems in the community). I have now talked with Apple Support rep and an Apple Genius. Have reinstalled Lion from the HD Recovery disk. I see some improvement but also at least one new problem: TimeMachine apparently has lost all backups, don't know how or why. Will have to take machine to a mac specialist or wait for Mountain Lion to arrive. Lion is a bad cat.

I installed windows 8.1 on my hardware and enabled hyper-v and installed 8.1 on hyper-v
after I update both windows to 8.1 update 1 my virtual windows 8.1 going to this problem :
now my right click ( context menu ) works on desktop but can't work in the start screen any more
I don't have :
1-pin to star or unpin from start
2-pin to taskbar or unpin from taskbar
3-uninstall
4-resize
no one of these context menu works in my start screen in my virtual windows 8.1 update 1
but all of them work completely in my host windows 8.1 update 1
help me how to resolve this problem
NOTE : The Generation of virtual windows 8.1 update 1 is Generation 2 while I created it in the Specify Generation page .

Windows 8.1 update problem on LENOVO Y510P
Hey guys,
Can't find anything similar to my problem and exhausted my options on this, so decided to ask. If it has been answered I couldn't find, so please point me out on the right direction.
Back history:
Have a lenovo y510p
Bought caddy & SSD drive and installed it onto laptop
Couldn't find a good doc about how to proced so my idea was
1-restore factory settings,
2-Copied the Windows C: partition and the SYSTEM_DRV partition to the SSD using Macrium reflect
3-Went on the BIOS boot order and set the SSD to boot first.
4-Voila, works fine, boots C: on the SSD and it's super fast.
Problem:
Windows 8.1 update can't install on C:. Bummer
I receive a notification saying that I can update to windows 8.1, which I want to do.
1 Hit ok to download,
2 it starts the update process,
3 finishes installing,
4 says it needs to restart
5-RESTARTS TO THE OLD DRIVE, changing the boot order on the BIOS (**bleep**???)
I then check that nothing was installed even on the old drive, proceed to shut down computer, change boot order back to SSD drive, start windows and receive a message that it couldn't be installed and it has reverted the installation.
Has anyone ever experienced that?
My idea now is to
Back up my computer again
Restore factory settings (on old drive)
Install windows 8.1 to old drive
Clone windows partition over
Change BIOS to boot up on SSD.
HOWEVER my question is: What happens when I want to install Windows 10 ? Do you think I'll face the same issue?
Should I somehow format the old drive's windows partition to prevent this from happening ?

CheersDid you erase the recovery partition on the old drive? My best guess is to create recovery discs or thumbdrive take the old drive out and put the new drive in and use the discs or thumbdrive to restore the system. Then run the updates and then copy your personal information from the old disc to the new disc.
As for Windows 10, I do not know if they are going to be doing a clean install with the update to windows 10 or doing an in place update so it is hard to know what problems you will encounter.

Problem with iPhone 6 driver on Windows 8.1 Update
Hi guys,
Each new device brings new questions: in my case, it's about Windows 8.1 Update (64-bit) not being able to install the proper driver for my new iPhone 6.
Strangely, I don't have any problem syncing my phone with iTunes via USB, but that won't work over WiFi, and when I plug it into one of the PC's USB ports, I get this window stating that Windows is trying to install the proper driver, but it hangs, then fails.
Of course, the phone shows in Windows Explorer, but when I double-click on the icon, it shows as empty.

Yes, I had found a similar solution also. I'm running XP Pro, SP3. I went Control Panels/ Add-Remove programmes/apple software update/ change/ repair. Then run the 10.5 exe.
While the programme updated from version 8 of iTunes, my new iTunes is now a mess. Not all of my music was in the same folder previously but it all showed up on iTunes. Now many albums have been left out, some have only a few tracks and some have two copies of some tracks as well as having other tracks missing. I haven't begun to work on that. -
Not able to access Itunes store anymore. Just quit working for no reason. I've tried deleting Itunes and related components from the Control Panel, but when I try to remove Apple Software Update, I get a message that states "There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor". Not sure what this message means. Am I suppose to contact Apple ? What is meant by package vendor ?
Apparently it's an itunes issue. I just tried to update and got the same issue. Called att to activate my iphone 4s and they say they can do the swap but apple is telling them itunes is down atm. So will have to wait

Plenty of sites list and summarize individual patches, I want one that consolidates problems and complaints so I can better assess the risk. Currently I'm waiting to install patches several days and doing google searches. That works, but I'd rather find a place
that does it with expertise.
Which forums would be best to look for such problems.

Although there might be some problems when installing it, Windows update is not the one to blame.

I am experiencing the exact same issue during the installtion process for iTunes 10.5.
I uninstalled all Apple components but when I attempted to uninstall the Apple Software Update I received the same message: "Fatal error during installtion." I was able to repair the Apple Software Update but still could not install iTunes 10.5 afterwards.

My itunes stopped working. I uninstalled/reinstalled. But it would not complete reinstall. Started with Quicktime not loading. I have tried to install Quicktime individually. Still nothing. I got the iPod touch, when i went to connect it to my computer to upload my music to it, It said that I need to upgrade to 10.5 but when I did I got the message below. So I tried uninstalling itunes and quick time and I cant download it at all and still get the message below. I have NO itunes on my computer now. =(

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?
