Perpetual nano reset

I disconnected my nano from my mac, and when I went to look at the playlists, I couldn't see anything (not even the On-The-Go stuff), so I reset the nano (using the menu/click button force reset). Now it won't stop. It just keeps resetting, over and over and over and over, etc., etc., etc.. I've tried toggling the hold switch. I've tried plugging it back into the mac. I've tried running the battery dry and plugging it back into the mac. I've tried almost everything I can think of, and I'd rather not have to send the iPod into Apple, because it would take sooooooo long. Can anyone help?

If Apple can see that you have installed Linux on your iPod when you send it in for service then they will probably refuse to carry out the work under warranty.
You must be aware that installing non Apple approved software on an iPod invalidates its warranty and they are well within their rights to not fix it.
After all it is very likely that you are actually responsible for the problem that the iPod has, so why should Apple have to pay the bill to fix it?

  • 8GB nano resetting itself continually - unable to stop it

Woke up this morning to find my two-week old nano continually resetting itself in its dock. It's now completely unusable - it resets, comes back, 5-10 seconds later it resets again. I've tried everything to stop it from doing this but nothing works. Cannot do a 'restore' as the nano resets itself before the process completes. Cannot even switch the nano off, so now it's just sitting on my desk resetting itself over and over and over again... which it will presumably do for the next 24 hours or so until the battery wears out.
Any ideas on how to stop it, or has my nano bit the dust..? Worked flawlessly for the past two weeks or so (apart from certain playlists not syncing, covered elsewhere...).

Honestly it sounds like a short within the ipod to me. From everything I've read, it seems that the entire charging system for the Ipod is extremely ahh, "delicate" I guess is the word.
The circuitry protection for power spikes and brownouts seems to be non-existent in the Ipod, and the power grid itself seems to be extremely delicate.

  • IPod Nano Resets and Erases All Data

I've had a bear of a time with my Nano ever since I installed iTunes 7. Before then, everything was fine.
After I installed 7.0, iTunes would not recognize the iPod. I went through all of the troubleshooting steps......twice......and it still didn't work. So I reinstalled iTunes 6 and it then recognized the iPod. Then, whlie putting my songs back on the iPod, the iPod reset and I lost all of the songs. Then it didn't recognize the iPod again and I had to restore the iPod.....twice. Since then, as I'm putting songs onto the iPod, it randomly seems to reset itself, I need to rename the iPod, and all the songs are gone again. This time, it happened three times.
Do I just have a bad iPod? Is there a way to talk to a person at Apple or is the service requests all on-line?
As an iPod novice, any help would be appreciated.

  • Ipod nano resets when I click on music, and exit podcasts.

As the subject say's, on my 4GB black, ipod nano when I click on the music tab it resets, bringing up the apple logo and goes back to the main menu. Same thing happens when I exit the podcasts menu, I can listen to a podcast but when I exit podcasts and go back to the main menu it resets bringing up the apple logo again and going back to the main menu. I can do every thing else view Photos go into the Extras tab, Settings and even Shuffle Songs which play fine. I can enter and exit these with no problems. When I plug it in to my computer it's fine even in itunes it's fine I can play anything and do anything. I did a restore of the software already and it fixed nothing, I’m all out of ideas.
    Please help thanks.

    4GB ipod nano Windows XP

I think I figured it out. Podcasts are the culprit, if you set up you your iPod nano to automatically update podcasts and it downloads them on to the iPod, it causes an error in the iPods software, causing it to restart when you click on music or leave the podcast menus. So I changed the settings to manually update podcasts. Putting my podcasts manually onto the iPod, they show up in the Podcasts playlist under my iPod nano menu (which shows automatically) in iTunes. This is when the error starts, when I undock my iPod nano and go to music sure-enough it restarts, I plugged it back into my computer and deleted the podcasts, undocked it and it was working fine. I converted the podcasts to AAC and then put them on the iPod. They did not show in the Podcasts playlist, they just show as normal songs, and when I undock it it works fine. Now I know that they don’t have to go into that playlist and that I can create my own smart-playlist. But it should not do something like this. I’ll make a new thread about this problem.
Thank you all for the help.

  • IPod Nano resets for no reason

    I have an 8gb 3gen Nano.
Until about 5 days ago I had encountered no problems. In the last 5 days though the iPod has taken to randomly reseting. I have tried resetting, restoring and reinstalling both the iPod and iTunes.
When connected to my pc, it starts iTunes, syncs and then disconnects automatically, generally after this it restents (and I have to select my language again). Some songs (specifically purchased songs) won't play from 'Cover Flow' trying causes the iPod to reset, however the same songs will play ok if they are contained within a playlist.
    Any suggestions?

It might be a litle more complicated as I discovered it's not a hardware bug, but something that afects a lot of iPod Touch around. Here is another thread in this forum:

Best regards, and cry for HELP to Apple. C'mon, this is WAY behond expensive device to have this stupid bug. Apple should solve this NOW.

  • Ipod Nano resetting itself

Hi, I'm hoping someone here can help me with my problem, whenever I plug in my nano to re-charge my battery, it would reset itself. What should i do about this? Is there somewhere specific I should go to report my problem?! thank you for who ever can give me any feed back on this
    PC   Windows XP

Well I seem to have solved the problem I was having with my iPod. I tried updating the ipod's software and in the updater program the software version was listed as 'unknown' so I restored the ipod to its factory default settings and it seems to be working properly again.
The restore deletes the entire contents of the iPod so I had to copy some files before starting and I also had to go into the iTunes preferences and enable Contacts and Calendar syncing and as well as having to 'enable' playlists and everything else from the iPod's main menu.
Hopefully all is now well with my iPod. If it plays up again I will post here.

  • IPod nano resets when scroll wheel touched or button is pressed

Recently my friend lost my iPod and gave me hers as a replacement. It's a 3rd gen 8 gig iPod nano. It was working fine with her music on it, but when I went to update it on my computer I had to reformat it for windows (my friend uses a mac I guess), and since then it boots only to the language select screen and resets whenever any button is pressed or the scroll wheel is moved. Even if the iPod is connected to my computer (computer doesn't have any problems recognizing the device) it does this whenever I touch any control on the iPod. It resets, goes to the apple logo boot screen, and goes to the language select screen again (repeat). If I don't touch it it stays at the language select screen or goes to the "connected" screen eventually if it's still connected, so it's not resetting spontaneously or anything.
I've restored the iPod several times and it hasn't solved the problem. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    lol, no answers eh
I'm really puzzled. I've put it in disk mode and drained the batteries completely...charged it completely...restored it on two different computers...I guess I'll take it to an apple store?

  • Podcasts making my nano reset itself??

When I have a podcast on my nano, if I select Music from the main menu it resets itself. I take the podcast off and everythings fine. It doesn't matter what podcast it is. I have 5 different podcasts I get(manually). For a couple months they didn't cause any trouble until this past week. All other music file transfers work perfectly fine and don't bother the ipod, only podcasts. Weird. I've rebooted the computer and restored the ipod. If I reinstall iTunes do I have to make a backup of all the songs in the library?

There is a bug in iTunes 6 when there are empty podcast folders present on your iPod. This applies when you subscribe to podcasts through iTunes and these podcasts show up under the podcast menu of your iPod. A folder is created for each new subscription. If any empty folders are present on your nano either because you've manually deleted all the episodes or because you've set up your podcast preferences to deleted all played episodes, you'll experience this resetting behavior.
The solution is to delete any empty podcast folders. See this post in the iLounge forums for more details.
And as Midgard stated, you can bypass the reset to main menu by navigating from some other menu category, but that doesn't fix the problem,

  • Nano reset without itunes

For some reason after I upgraded to the latest Itunes, it refuses to run.
I've completely uninstalled, got rid of all directories, files, temp files and set up files. I've removed all things to do with Itunes from my registry and tried to reinstall. Nothing works. Itunes refuses to open.
If I go into processes, itunes.exe is there, but I get nothing on screen.
Go here to see full list of what I've tried.

Anyway my point is that I can't open Itunes to reset my Ipod nano (3rd g)
I've tried editing my music on it with various other softwares like, poddox, anapod, sonbird, etc. They all say that I've successfully transferred my mp3 music to the Ipod, but when I check the pod itself it says there is no music, no videos, no pictures but only 1.1meg free.
    PLEASE, ANY HELP?

No. You can't activate/restore any GSM iPhone without a valid sim installed.

  • 2G iPod nano "resets" when viewing photos

I have been loading my daughter's new 8GB nano with music and pictures to give it to her for Christmas. The nano has "reset" twice while showing pictures: The screen goes to the black Apple screen for a moment and then goes to the main menu. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you know what causes it? I haven't had any trouble when listening to music ... yet.

Also since this iPod is new it will have already be
    uptodate on the new software.
That's not necessarily true. Some iPods in some retailer purchased today may still be on the original iPod firmware update. Depends on how fast that retailer is moving product and reshelving. Also, just like you choose not to update your firmware, this poster may be the same way. A double edged sword. Although some people are complaining about issues or problems arising after an update I don't think it's something that the majority of users are experiencing. Also, consider the people that had problems actually go away after updating their firmware (like myself). Since Apple reccomends repeatedly on their support pages to have the latest "up-to-date" firmware on your iPod it's probably the best thing to do in the long run.

  • Nano resetting itself when playing video

I have just bought a brand new Nano and I'm very happy with it so far. However after applying the new firmware update I've noticed a problem. When playing a video the Ipod will sometimes reset itself for no apparent reason. Sometimes I can sit for an entire bus journey and nothing will happen. Other times I can be sitting there for only 10 minutes watching a video and it will reset itself then go to the Video Select screen again. When resuming the video it will be at the point it was when originally turning the device on. Thus 'forgetting' what I've watched so far.
Is it the firmware do you think?
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
    Any workarounds/solutions?

I think I've figured out how to keep it from resetting. Each time I watch a video I return to the video menu before turning the Nano off. When I turn it back on and select the video I had previously been watching it plays from the correct spot. Since I have been doing this the Nano has not reset itself even once. It's a bit annoying to have to do this, but much less annoying then having it reset in the middle of something.

  • Nano resetting

Recently, my iPod nano has begun to randomly reset while playing. Sometimes it is in the middle of a song, other times when selecting a new song from the menu. It returns to the black screen with the Apple logo as if you had reset it pressing the menu and center buttons. Don't know what's causing this.
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • Nano resetting at Music Menu

I added some songs to my iPod nano today, but after I ejected it (properly, from iTunes) my nano will reset whenever I access the Music menu. It does not reset at any other menu. I did many "resets" of my own, updated the software to 1.1.1, and still, no dice. The music will PLAY fine if I hit play, but if I try to go back to the main Music menu, again, a reset.
    Any advice before I restore?

Well, whilst i don't have an answer as to why this should happen, I can tell you that a restore isn't really that big of a deal. It's quite a common fix for iPod ills.
It shouldn't take too long to reload all your music etc. Depending on the size of your library of course.
Sometimes you need to restore the iPod to cure an unexplained (and minor) software glitch.
However, if you constantly needed to restore, then would indicate a more serious issue.

  • IPod nano resetting constantly

I have a first gen black iPod nano, bought it the week it was announced. Anyways, haven't had many problems with it. Recently my iPod restarted on me as I was using it in my car (Belkin Tunecast II and the Belkin cigarette lighter charger). I went to go play some music, but it restarts if I go to any menu options that contain music (Music, Podcasts, Playlists, etc.). It doesn't reset if I go to any other menus though. I haven't been using it because I haven't been able to get it to work. I've reset it manually and that didn't help. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you have your iPod set to transfer your music manually, then that “do not disconnect” message will continue to be displayed on your iPod until you manually eject it.
You can do this by clicking on the little eject icon next to the iPod listing in the source window of iTunes, or right click on it and select “eject”. Another way would be to use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject.
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes, right click on the iPod in iTunes, select options and if you have a check mark in the box marked “enable disk use”, remove it and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

  • IPod Nano resets every time I select Music

My iPod Nano is rebooting every time I pick the Music menu. All other menus work and if I press the right arrow key from the main menu it will play music but I can't select the music menu.
I tried resetting. I guess the next step is to erase but I'd like to avoid all that.

just try a restore, u have the music in itunes so it is safe.
