Perpetual "Not Responding" message/unresponsive script/see all that I've tried

I have:
* Restarted in "Safe Mode"
* Reset my Firefox to "out of the box" (there are no themes or plugins currently installed)
* Run with Java activated and with Java disabled (I'm aware that there are issues with the current version of Java 7).
* Uninstalled & Reinstalled Firefox
* Tried going to different wesites (*every* site I go to - even very common sites - I can never get to the point where I can even use the scroll bar to scroll down because Firefox issues the "Not Responding" alert)
* run 3 different virus scanning programs (Norton 360, MalwareBytes, CCleaner) - I'm clean
* I pressed "Continue" and other times clicked "Stop Script"; either way after a while I get another popup box asking the same question
* never used Webroot Spy Sweeper
* waited til my dinner got cold
* accessed the same sites in Chrome and never have a hint of a problem
Almost every time I'm aware of the script is a java script, but I've also updated java to the current version
People - I am dead in the water without a clue. Firefox is completely useless to me in this state. Please dear God help...

The pass 4 days now my iTunes Store is not responding, when I reload it all that comes up is a blank white page that says iTunes Store. Help please!!!! Cannot load my gift card to buy music and such!!!

I tookyour suggestion and SUCCESS!  I can now access the Itunes Store.  A simple fix, and thanks so much!!.
Below is the advice you forwarded:
I found a solution to my problem.
    > start menu
    > accessories,
    > right click on the command prompt icon and choose "run as administrator".
Once it opens, type in the following command...
    netsh winsock reset
    hit enter
You should get a message that the winsock reset successful and you will need to reboot your computer.
Reboot and when I reloaded itunes the store loaded fine.

  • Firefox 16.0.1 Crashes, Not Responding with Unresponsive Script Warnings and Adobe Flash Plugin Crashes

    Hello,
I'm experiencing some issues with Firefox 16.0.1 which I had also experienced with Firefox 15.0.1.
On numerous occasions Firefox has crashed while attempting to access a website link contained in an AOL e-mail message.
Unrelated to that issue, Firefox has hung up frequently with associated unresponsive script warnings and occasionally with the Adobe Flash Plugin crashing. Some of the unresponsive script warnings are:

I've reset Firefox and disabled all the plugins and yet these problems persist.
What are those script warnings actually telling me and are there any recommendations on how to resolve these issues?
    Thank you,
    Mike

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Keep getting (Not Responding) message while attempting to view messages in Thunderbird

After launching Thunderbird and loading new email I continue to receive "(Not Responding)" message in the top application bar. I tried the re-indexing steps after saving the profile folder to a backup drive, but the message continues to come up when attempting to navigate between email messages. I also tried running in "Safe Mode" per instructions, but it continues to occur there as well. Are there settings that I need to adjust to improve performance of this application on my system? I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron desktop computer. Thanks

  • TB keeps getting Not Responding message. Screen freezes. Happens all the time. I am running STOPzilla anti-virus

I get the Not Responding message on both TB and Firefox all the time. I have seen issues using McAfee and a list of other Anti-Virus programs but I use STOPzilla and it is not listed at this time. It gets very annoying when typing something and the screen freezes for several seconds and have the Not Responding message and then it will work again. I am running TB 31.0 and Windows 7. Thank you.

Perhaps someone close (geographically) can give you a hand?
[http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/view-cpu-utilization-performance-information#1TC=windows-7 This Windows Help article] explains how to check for resource use on your PC.
What I described is a one-step test in Thunderbird: ''On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". '' This would help determine if the problem is among an add-on installed in Thunderbird.
If that doesn't show improvement, the problem is not within Thunderbird but elsewhere in the system. Starting the computer in Safe Mode then helps confirm if the problem is in Windows (and not specifically in Thunderbird).
I understand you may not be comfortable doing this by yourself, perhaps ask someone close to help you in person, by showing them our answers here.

  • Avoid White Screen and (Not Responding) Message?

Is there a way to force FrameMaker to update the screen when it becomes unresponsive during lengthy processes?
I wrote an ExtendScript to open all files in a book (silently), import settings across all files, update the book, and then save as a PDF file. The script runs seven times, each time with different settings to control various things such as conditional text and variables.
The problem is that FrameMaker churns on certain commands, such as opening all the files and importing the settings. During this time, it might take up to 10 minutes to complete the command across all files in the book. If I click off of FrameMaker onto another applicaiton, and then go back to FrameMaker I see only a FrameMaker container window with a white background. The title bar shows the book name and (Not Responding). The script is still running and everything is fine. But there is no feedback to the user to indicate what's happening.
Is there no way to force FrameMaker to refresh the window and remove (Not Responding) from the title bar?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hi Jason,
This is more of a limitation of FrameMaker's implementation of the "OWL" interface. The Not Responding title bar and white screen appear not just with scripts and FDK clients, but also with other long FrameMaker operations, like updating large books, etc. In fact, in Kapil Verma's FrameMaker 11 webinar yesterday, the same thing happened when he was creating a book from a ditamap.
One way you can minimize the effect of this is to use a progress bar with your script, so people will know the progress of the script in spite of the white screen, etc.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro DC keeps crashing with "Not Responding" message

Hi there, I just started using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and it keeps crashing with a "not responding" message. It never used to happen with acrobat XI. Any ideas?
I'm using Windows 8.1 on an Acer with AMD A10-5700 APU 64bit OS...

    Hi ,
Does this happen while accessing any PDF ' or when you launch Acrobat ?
You could try repairing Acrobat and see if that helps .
Is there any error number or exit code associated with the error message ?If yes ,please share the screen shot of the same.
You could also uninstall Acrobat using the Cleaner Tool .Here is the link to download Cleaner Tool .
Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs
Once uninstalled you could try downloading it again .If it is a subscription ,you could refer the following link .
    https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html
You could restart your machine as well and then try to launch Acrobat .
If it is a perpetual license ,you could refer to this one .

  • "NOT RESPONDING" message whenever I start using my Windows Media Player

I don't know what it is that causes this - if it's something to do with having the lesser expensive Hewlett-Packard computers, but this is the 2nd HP laptop I've had and the one thing I've had in common w/both of them is that, one, I got them for under $500 - about $445 or so, w/tax...anyway, I suppose that the more expensive HPs are better and wouldn't have petty problems like this - but anyway, - the last one I had & this one I currently have - the last one was a Windows 7 and this one is Windows 8, so the O/S has nothing to do w/my problem.  Anyway, it's like this:  every time I turn on the PC, then get it all revved up & ready to go, etc. when I turn on my Windows Media Player (WMP) the thing comes up on screen and it sometimes takes a few seconds, since I have about 740 CDs worth of music on here, but anyway, once the CDs show up on the WMP album page (where they're put up in alpha. order of LP name, as opposed to artist names, etc) - and so, when I go from the "A"s downward, just paging through it, looking for something to listen to, for instance, it ALWAYS, inevitably, without fail, gets stuck, sometimes sooner, sometimes later, but usually by the time I get to the Cs or  Ds, the thing gets stuck and freezes up on me and I can't do anything w/it. Then, when I try to click the mouse a couple times or whatever, I get a message at the top of the WMP box - on the top of the box it reads "Windows Media Player", like usual, but when it freezes up like this and it stays stuck for anywhere from 10 seconds up to a minute sometimes, the message that pops up right next to the "WMP" label on the blue border reads "NOT RESPONDING".  99% of the time, it just takes a little patience and sometimes just clicking the mouse buttons a few times and/or hitting a few keys on the keyboard (not hard, just randomly pressing down on some) - then it will finally come back & unfreeze and I'm usually able to continue browsing through my catalog, but there has been other times when it seems to be in worse shape - it'll read "NOT RESPONDING" for a while and no matter how much I click the left or right mouse buttons, tap the mouse on the pad, or whatever, it might come unstuck for a few seconds, then, I think I'm OK again, but sometimes, as soon as it looks unstuck, I can't get it to move at all and right away the "NOT RESPONDING" message comes right back up (and the page fades a little too) - in fact, lately, just before I did a refresh thing on my PC to try & get things to work better, it was giving me big trouble, it would just sit there, stuck, frozen up and nothing I did would unfreeze it.  I'd be frantically trying to unstick it, but no matter what I did, it'd still be frozen and when it does that, I can't get it to do anything.  Recently, when it would do this, sometimes, if I had not tried to get too far down in the alphabet, I can get a certain album open and get it to start playing, but the "NOT RESPONDING" message will pop up now and again, but the music will play all right, uninterrupted.
Anyway, this is very annoying.  It's been happening for so long now, that I basically take it for granted that it's going to freeze up on me when I 1st bring it up.  I have no idea what's causing this to happen; like I said, this happened when I had a previous HP laptop that was working with Windows 7.
Kind of a long-winded way of putting this issue to anyone, but I just wanted to be clear and specific.
Is there ANYONE out there who owns a cheapo HP? (not a Compaq, the computer co. HP bought for that purpose, to make their cheap computers and differentiate them from the HPs) - But I wonder, it's been so long since I've even checked -does Compaq even exist anymore as a separate entity from parent co. HP?  If not, then that explains why there's a difference between HP laptops that are $400 or so (at Best Buy) and the more slick, expensive HP laptops that have all the bells & whistles and usually run over $1000.  Of course, I'm not about to shell out twice as much money to buy an HP just to see if the more expensive ones don't behave the way their cheap models do.  I also had a Toshiba I bought about 3-4 years ago and I had even more problems with that - one instance was when the CD drive went out on me and I had to ship it in to HP (still under warranty, thank heavens) and they put a new drive in and shipped it back to me.  It also crashed one time, and got infected with a virus or two or three, which meant I had to re-set the computer back to the original factory settings and, not having an external hard-drive with which to back up all my music, pix, documents, etc (my music is the most important stuff on my computer to me), which meant that I had to go through this long hassle of replacing all the music I'd lost. I have a lot of my own hard copies of CDs, but there were so many more CDs that I didn't have copies of, so I had to visit the library over & over, checking out as many as 25-30 CDs at a time on a lucky day, when the library had a lot of the CDs I needed to replace in my WMP.  I don't want this to happen again, so I am going to get an external hardrive but I still don't know for sure if that would work. At least, by resetting the PC to factory settings I was able to get rid of the virus(es) that were screwing my computer up badly
So - has anyone out there had any similar problems?  If so, I would appreciate any help or suggestions you may have as to how to deal with this sort of thing.
Thanks a lot.  Hope to hear from one of you out there in the future.
    Have a nice 4th...

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • AV iChat ---does not respond message

I've been reading about iChat problems and see a lot of frustrated people out there and have joined the ranks.
My mother and I successfully AV iChatted Friday night.
My daughter and I AV iChatted Sunday (she could invite me, i couldn't invite her)
My daughter was able to AV iChat with her grandmother Sunday too. But I could not. We could however audio chat.
A week later I cannot audio OR video chat with my mother.
We are getting the "(fill in name of invitor) did not respond" message.
I have opened the ports in my Mac Firewall, and my mother did too--no luck.
I tried to set a static ip address for my computer but cannot because my isp has dynamic DNS and I'm not allowed to according to them.
    Am I frustrated? You bet!
I've Mac OS X (10.4.5) on dual processor intel iMac. I connect to the web via Motorola Surfboard S84220 Cable Modem and Netgear 54 Mbps wireless router WGR614v6. My mother is on System: Mac OSX  version 10.4.5
Power Book G4 and is connected thru Surfboard Motorola Model  SB 5100.
Oh--should I say, I am on .Mac and my mother is AIM?
My husband is beginning to worry about me because I have been glued to my computer--he says there are programs out there to help people like me get over my addiction--i hope so.

Well thanks for your time and input. After playing around with everything for another while, I finally called Apple Care. I figured since I payed for it, I should use it.
They first suggested that my problem lay with the strength of my internet connection. I turned my airport off and hooked up to the internet directly with the cable. When that did not help, we tried one more thing.
It turns out that I had to reset my modem. I unplugged it for 2 minutes--including its cable connection, and then turned everything back on as well as restarting my computer. Voila! it worked.
I have since reconnected my airport and am now operating wirelessly, and iChat is happy again.
Since I am not a technical person, i am probably going to garble this, but it seems that the modem was issuing crumby ip addresses to my computer (?)
Maybe you can make sense of this.
After all of this, it seems like such a simple fix. Maybe you who are experiencing the "did not respond" message can start here before you go to too much trouble setting ports and such.
We'll see if this still works tomorrow.
    Good luck!

  • After my windows 7 computer did automatic updates, everytime I click on a link I get a not responding message and have to wait almost a minute for the program to continue.

Last night, my computer running Windows 7 premium home edition downloaded some automatic updates. I came in this morning to find that it had done a restart after adding these updates.
Now, anytime I click a link or do something which requires a redirect to another web page, my program gives me the not responding message and I have to wait 30-55 seconds for the program to continue.
I have Firefox 4 and it was running smoothly up until this morning, so I can only assume that whatever the automatic updates were, there is something in them that is causing this error. I do not know what updates were installed.

I don't have that problem in Firefox 29 when I read Gmail or AOL (aim''.''com) webmail. When I click on a webpage link in an email I'm reading (example: http://www.tworivertheater.org/ ) the link opens in a separate Firefox tab.
Are you saying this doesn't happen in outlook''.''com webmail and the link opens in the same Firefox tab as the email itself? I don't use outlook''.''com webmail myself. Hopefully someone will be along who does, or see [[Problems with email and how to find help]].
It might help if you would confirm the type of link that is opening in the same tab as the email you are reading in your outlook webmail. If I misunderstood your problem, please explain it better.
It might also help if you could furhish more troubleshooting information. Please do the following:
*'''For Firefox 29.0 and above''': Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
*At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
*Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

  • Persistent "Not Responding" messages

In the past couple of weeks, each time I open or close an application (Firefox, Word) I get the spinning disk and a "Not Responding" message. If I'm trying to close a program, I do a Force Quit, I get the message telling me I'll lose data or close open tabs, go ahead and force quit, the window closes but the program still hasn't closed. Then I have to restart the computer and all is well.
I've run onyX, I've checked Activity Monitor to see if something's hogging resources, all to no avail.
    Any ideas, please?
    Thanks.

Backup and & all data before trying anything else. anything that stores important data, whether it be folders or apps, copy to drives / DVDs &/or export the data from the apps.
You'll need something like Drive Genius or Tech Tool to do a surface scan of the drive.
if you ever bought applecare for any of your machines, the CD provided with the box may be able to do it. if you still or had a machine under applecare, you can download & burn a disk with Tech Tool Deluxe which can scan the drive for bad sectors.
    https://support.apple.com/techtooldeluxe/main?id=dl
but if this is the original hard drive - never replaced or has been several years since - then you might be on the edge of a total failure.

Do you use McAfee anti-virus software?
    If yes, please read:
    * https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues#McAfee
Is this an Imap mail account?
if yes, you can choose to only synchronize the most recent of emails instead of a whole folder.
    see info :
    * https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization#w_configuring-synchronization-and-disk-space-usage
Make sure you compact folders on a regular basis to remove all 'marked as deleted' emails.
Tools -> Account Settings -> Server Settings -> Clean up ("Expunge") Inbox on Exit will compact the Inbox folder when you exit Thunderbird. If you check "Empty Trash on Exit" it will also empty and compact the Trash folder when you exit.

  • How do I make Firefox stop crashing and giving "not responding" messages. I don't want to reset it because I've got lots of extensions. Other browsers work fine

Every few minutes it gives me a "not responding" message and/or it crashes. I've checked all my add-ons, they're all updated. I've tried accessing the same websites that crash on Firefox with other browsers and it works really well. I don't want to reset it as one of the troubleshooting solutions suggest because I'd rather change to another browser than having to re-install all my add-ons. Please, is there anything that can be done to fix this?

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
Also try to disable hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
