Perpetual Reboot XP on Satellite 2415

I downloaded a lot of updates from Microsoft and ,when I tried to restart as instructed, the computer displayed the XP Home Edition Page, went misty for a while then blacked out. (the on/off light went out)
It then attempted to restart with the same result and the same thing happened over and over, even when the laptop was closed, until I manually switched it off.
I tried putting in a XP boot CD, but it cannot see it, or at any event is not responding to it.
I cannot get into the BIOS to check or change this. I tried pressing Esc and F1, F2, F8 and F12, but the best I can get is the screen offering to boot in safe mode or to Command Prompt etc.
No matter which option I select, it still goes back to the perpetual reboot ! I found a set of instructions for correcting the problem, but am falling at the first step because the computer does not see the XP CD.
Can anyone help?

Hello
In the whole story just one thing is very strange for me: you cannot enter BIOS settings.
As far as I know for this notebook model you need to use ESC button for BIOS settings. Whan you start your notebook can you see Toshiba welcome screen?

  • Unable to recover for Satellite 2415

    Hello,
I am using Recovery CD provided by Toshiba at the time of purchase to re-install the OS in my Toshiba Laptop - Satellite 2415-S205. I get to the point where the following message appears:
“ERASING ALL DATA FROM HARD DISK 1
    Creating partition for C: (FAT32 – NTFS)”
but then it stays there? Could someone help me how to proceed and what I should do?
    Some details about the laptop:

Assuming there is no physical issue with the hard drive, you need a boot disk (CD, USB) that you can boot from and manually prep the drive. OR You may obtain a cheap USB connector that you can use to externally (must remove drive from machine) plug into another machine and then prep it.

    Hi!
What max HDD can I use in Satellite 2415-S205
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
I think you should be able to upgrade to 80GB (at least), but I am not sure if you can install an HDD with more then 80GB.
The only chance to find it out is to buy a 100GB pladder and to if it works. :)
Otherwise I just can say: 80 Gig

  • Perpetual rebooting

    Hi Gang,
This is a weird one and I've actually seen it just a couple times before in all the years and all the BlackBerry devices I've used: My Torch 9800 is in a state of "perpetual rebooting"! The line that moves across the screen from left to right during the startup process extends to about 70% and then the phone reboots. Did this all night. I've tried a number of things to no avail. Desktop Manager does not recognize it because it keeps shutting down in and starting up in a freakish loop...Please help!!!
    Thanks Friends!

Are you able to restart your device in safe mode as shown in KB17877?
I assume, since it's caught in a reboot cycle, when you connect to the Desktop Software it doesn't take a stable connection to reinstall your software?
If that is case, remove your battery and keep it out when you connect to the Desktop Software. You will get a pop up that the device can't connect and there should be Retry, Update and Cancel buttons. Select Update and you will then be able to reinstall the current device software version.
When the load is progressing, you will see a step that says "Wait for device initialization". At this point, insert the battery and the reload should complete.

  • IPod in perpetual reboot

for a while, in order to mount my iPod or see it in iTunes, I had needed to do the "Menu/Enter" for 6 seconds reset and then "Forward/Back" while it was booting up for my iPod to mount. Now, whenever I connect my iPod or start it up, it goes in a startup loop, gets as far as the black screen with the white apple on it (first dim, then bright), then restarts, and gives me a dim battery low message, a dim white apple, or a bright white apple. Lather, rinse, repeat until it simply shuts off from lack of battery power.
I just restored it about a month ago thinking it might help me with my mounting problems. It didn't. But it seemed to mount every time I did the "Menu/Enter" and "Forward/Back" combinations when connecting.
I've tried two different cables to connect with, but haven't had a chance to try another machine. My iTunes is up to date but it doesn't even make it as far as mounting so I don't think that's the problem.
I'm about to take it in for a tech to take a look at it, but was wondering if anyone else had any last suggestions?

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • How to restore an iPad when it is rebooting all the time and cannot connect to iTunes

Two days ago, I was updating applications. The iPad crashed during the process so I did a hard rebood. Since then, the iPad is in a perpetual reboot mode.
Once in a while, I get the security keypad but as soon as my password is put, the iPad freezes and then, goes in reboot.
We tried to connect to iTunes on our MacBook Pro but the connection is often not possible because of the reboot.
A few times, we were able to see the iPad menu and even tried a restore from iTunes.  iTunes downloaded the iOS 6.1.3 again (over multiple connection/reconnections) but no help. The iPad is still rebooting all the time.
    What can I do?

Send the iPad into DFU mode and then restore it through iTunes.
Google the instructions on how to place your iPad into DFU mode.

  • Constant reboot problem with 8530

My 8530 has gone into a perpetual reboot mode.  Tried battery pulls, tried to get the OS reloaded, and a variety of pull the battery/run loader scenarios.  Nothing seems to take.  I can interrupt the reboot cycle with battery removed, and the OS appears to be loading, however as soon as the battery is replaced, it goes back into redlight/hourglass/flash of the boot screen/off/redlight. etc....
Any thoughts on how to solve this are most welcome.

Thank you for all the replies. Upgrading to the latest Nvidia IDE-drivers did not fix my problem. Moving to other SATA-ports did not help either. Upgrading the mobo's BIOS is not really an option (I'm using one version before the most recent and there isn't anything in the fixlist of the latest BIOS).
Now I've contacted Maxtor for (hopefully) a new firmware.

  • Eternal Reboot Loop

My Blackberry Torch 9800 has been stuck on a perpetual reboot cycle.  I have seen several forums that say, take the battery out, hold the escape keep to open in safe mode.  My problem is, my phone never completes the reboot process.  It gets about 3/4's of the way done, then starts again.  I tried to plug it in to my PC, but the phone never comes on so my PC can recognize and sync.  Are there any alternatives?  Could it be a bad battery after almost 3 years of the same one?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
If the result is that the BB is the problem, then I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

  • Constantly Rebooting Connectme Device

Any way I can RMA these Freetalk Connectme devices? I bought 3 of them thinking I would give two away as Christmas presents. So far, 2 out of 3 of them when plugged in start with the usual stead red light, I then get a link light on the switch, followed by a blinking green light on the unit. All looks good. 1-2 minutes later, the link light drops, the Connectme light goes to red, then the whole process repeats. The process goes on perpetually. I cannot even log on to the Connectme. Perhaps it should be called Disconnectme?

I purchased two and one does the perpetual reboot while the other does nothing.
I get no replies from three complaints to the Freetalkconnect.com staff.

  • Year-old 4S freezes up--what to do?

My year-old iPhone 4S had given me no trouble until three weeks ago, when it suddenly froze in the Charlotte, NC airport. Didn't respond to screen touch, nor to the Home or top power button. Just as I was about to look for a safety pin or toothpick to do a hard reset, it went black and then rebooted; it behaved fine till today. Suddenly, it froze first when Bluetoothed to my Ford Fusion and it took several attempts to pick up an incomng call. Then a few minutes later during texting--three times. Then during e-mailing, sometimes after typing a character or two; eventually, even when swiping to unlock from the home screen.  It behaved again when I plugged it into the car to recharge.  But I am tired of not knowing whether I can depend on it. I am 11 months from being eligibile to upgrade to a 5. What do I do? What causes it?

I usually turn off my phone once a week or so (top button, screen goes black, Apple logo comes up when I hit the top button again).  Otherwise, I put it to sleep (like my MacBook Pro, which never freezes or locks up). I get nervous about letting the battery completely drain--it gets close (<20% power) once a week or so--because I don't want to be caught without a phone when I need it. (I also have Sprint, but its phone hasn't worked no matter how often I reboot--which sometimes it'll do spontaneously over and over and over--so if my iPhone dies I'm incommunicado).
I am using the most recent update of iOS 6--6.0.1, I think (I was still using 5 the first time it locked up in Charlotte, and when I got home to Chicago I figured I might as well give in and update when the first bug fix was announced).
Thanks for heading me off using the paper clip---some jerk in the Charlotte airport lounge (he was using an iPhone 4S also) suggested it, but the phone revived before I could do anything stupid.  And I AM using a case--albeit a thin Speck Pixel Skin (one piece of silicone that covers just the back and sides). I've shied away from OtterBox Defender after it caused my Sprint HTC EVO 4G to overheat dangerously (which probably set that perpetual reboot cycle in motion).
Finally, thanks for the advice to hold both buttons down for >15 sec.--had no idea it'd take THAT long. Will try all these suggestions next time the phone acts up.
But has anyone else here had an issue with their iPhones freezing up--and if so, not have the above measures work?

  • My DVD/CD-ROM and floppy disk drives can't read or write contents

When I check through the computor it says verything is working. I have some CD's I wrote data and files to with this computor but for some reason it's showing me that there's nothing on the floppy's or the CD's.
Mined you I have another computer and its able to see, write, save, to these same Floppy's or CD's.
It's also telling me to load the CD when its already in the RW devices in my computer.
I just reloaded everything on to a new hard drive in April, I used the DVD/CD-RW and everything was fine.
My model is Satellite 2415 S205. I have reloaded Drivers. What else can I do? I refuse to believe the RW/DVD and the "A"  went bad at the same time.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

    iPhone 5, iOS 8, 64 GB

hi Franxis . . . below is what I had to do . . . I believe that my  crashing, perpetual rebooting and reset loops was due to some combination of my iPhone 5's hardware, iOS 8.1.1, and some applications.
I upgraded to iOS 8.1.1 upon release.   approx. 10 hours after this upgrade, the iPhone 5 displayed a bright white screen.  tried hard reset & phone would not turn on.  iPhone eventually turned on, to display lines & colors, but iPhone was inoperable - would not reset using sleep / home key combination or connection to  iTunes
I brought my iPhone to the Retail Store -  RS was able to reset phone, and then began the process of restoring from my last backup there & said it would continue throughout the day.  After the restore from backup completed, the crashing, perpetual rebooting and reset loops started again.
    1. I was eventually able to perform a DFU &  installed the phone as new (factory reset, I believe).
    2.  I did NOT perform a restore from backup.
    3. The phone seems to run fine now
The long story is that days 1-3, after the DFU / factory reset, the phone ran fine.  And, on day 4, I began installing Apps again.  When I installed the fourth App, and the phone crashed, changing colors, perpetually rebooting, and unable to start / get into a functional mode.   On day 4, I had to leave the phone alone for a while - was eventually able to perform another DFU - factory reset -  and again no restore from backup.  Today - day 5 - my iPhone is running fine again and I installed 11 Apps now (not the one that crashed my iPhone), accessed them all, and phone seems fine.
For me, it seems like an App, or some Apps that I was running caused the issues for me - it could be a combination of everything (certain Apps + iOS 8.1.1 + hardware not getting along).

  • Genius Bar: Apple Vegas: My Heroes!!

I was in Vegas for CES. Went to take my iPhone out to take some photos when I see it is DEAD. Charged it up. Nothing but the apple showing perpetual reboot. Tried Rogers support line long distance. No help. Took it to the Apple store in Caesars Forum at 10:15 at night -- the Hero bar took one look. Tried to recover. Got the dreaded 1015 error. Smiled, and gave me a new phone ... 15 minutes later - re-synced and back to work (well, back to the tables and THEN back to work :))
Thanks for reminding me what great service lloks like.

    Welcome to Apple discussions!
The story that you tell is similar to experiences that I have had at the Apple Store. (My secret is, I never go to an Apple Store when school is out.)
Obviously no company can make everyone happy all the time, but I have found Apple to do much better than most. Thank you for relating your story.
I had a Mac Pro that had a motherboard problem, after two unsuccessful repairs they gave me a brand-new Mac Pro. I know service like that cost Apple money, but that type of service creates life customers.
