Perplexed about outlook connector and caldav compatibility
I have read that the only way to use Outlook against the calendar server is to use the old 6.3 calserver. wcap.
I cant find anywhere if there is a way for outlook to use caldav or not? I would like to only use calendar server 7 and not have to install 6.3 as well just for outlook users.
Is there support for outlook to use calendar 7 in anyway?
Regards
8.
Q:
When would I choose to deploy Calendar Server 6.3 over Calendar Server 7?
A:
Although Calendar Server 7 is based on an open standard, it is not yet as mature as Calendar Server 6.3. If the primary goal of the deployment is to achieve interoperability with other CalDAV compliant solutions and clients such as Apple iCal and Apple iPhone, then Calendar Server 7 should be deployed. If the goal is to have a calendar server that supports all the components of the Sun Java Communications Suite such as Convergence, Outlook Connector, Mobile Communications, Communications Sync, and Communications Express, then Calendar 6.3 should be deployed. In other words, if you only plan to use the clients supplied by Java Communications Suite, Calendar Server 6.3 would be the right choice for you.
Note that although Calendar Server 7 does not currently support the Outlook Connector or Convergence, support for these components is coming shortly. When this occurs, we see no reason to deploy Calendar Server 6.3 over Calendar Server 7, since Calendar Server 7 will surpass Calendar Server 6.3 in both functionality and scalability.

Using the Same Profile for Outlook Connector and Exchange
Is anyone using the same profile in Outlook for both the Oracle Connector for Outlook and Exchange server? Only Exchange would have an IMAP mail service defined.
Oracle tech support kindly provided me with the following information but I would really appreciate hearing about customer experiences:
"In theory this should work without causing any problem if only one service within the same Profile is configured for mail. However, before configuring a large amount of users with such a configuration, please start with 1 user and perform some tests, as I am not aware of anyone using such a configuration. The fact that you want your Oracle calendar users to invite Exchange users, will be like inviting External users, the Free/Busy information for these users will not be available etc. Also inviting external user is an already existing feature of the Oracle Calendar."
Thanks very much.
BrendaWe are doing it currently as we are switching over from Exchange 5.5 to OCS. We set up a profile using the Oracle connector and then go into properties and add the Exchange account. We used this method to move files from the Exchange server to the Oracle server by having both profiles running.

Outlook Connector and shared calendar
Hi.
Looking for some help troubleshooting an issue with shared calendar functionality from Outlook using the Connector.
All server bits are JES-R2. Connector version is 6.0.129.
Connector is working for the most part, but when I try to subscribe to another users calendar from Outlook it is failing. Even when I do a search, and pick the user from the list, the lookup fails to return the user and I get "User not found. Either enter the email id of the user OR click on Search and then click Find to locate the user."
The ldap search I'm seeing in the access logs is curious in the sense that it seems to binding with dn="".

[23/Jun/2004:15:18:55 -0400] conn=346 op=-1 msgId=-1 - closed.
This is returning 0 entries, and I believe this is why it is failing. I believe the connector is probably using this search to retrieve the users calendar_id.
If I type the uid into the dialog box (to subscribe) I get this in the ldap:

This time, it has a proper uid (not a mail address) but still returns 0 entries.

Anyone have any clue as to what is the cause/fix???
Thanks,
Jeff SmithIf someone is still following this thread:
The problem seems to stem from the fact that the subscribe to calendar function from the connector (outlook) is searching ldap on uid, but using an email address as a value:

Outlook connector, and shared calendar... again
Hi,
I'm using the communication suite through the communication express and outlook.
All work fine on both email client, but... with outlook, I can't see people's shared calendars.
Other functions work very well, like shared contacts, folders etc..., but when I want
to list shared calendar of any user, no one appears, and so, I can't subscribe.
(I can search people, find people, but when selected, no calendars...)
I took a look at the log (ldap server, oc logfile, etc...) and didn't see any error messages.
With comm. express, I can subscribe, see, modify. So I don't think there's an authentication problem.
I'm using outlook connector 7.2.402.1 on outlook 2003 SP3.
I'm new to sun comm. suite, so if I'm not accurate enough, ask me!

General Question about JRE - Versions and backward compatibility etc
Could someone maybe help me with this query?
I've got a group of network users who use a total of four java applications which I am told require different versions of the Java Runtime Environment to run.
Is it therefore possible to have muliple versions of the RTE installed on one user machine to make all applications work at once or is it simply a case of having to have only one version of the JRE.
I'm talking mainly about in house applications so I guess if some of them are incompatible with the latest JRE then the answer might be to find out what the problem is and fix the application so it works in the lates jre - or am I missing something?Hello,
First of all, it is possible to keep several JRE installed in Windows. For example, my PC has JRE 1.3.1.8, 1.4.0.1, 1.4.2.6.
Second. A tecnology exists to cause a Windowst to run a specific JRE for a specific Java applet. Please see the text below.
HTML Applet Configuration
The standard (Internet) method of calling Java Runtime when using a Java Applet is to use an Applet tag within the HTML file itself specifying the applet details (example below). This tries to attach itself to Microsoft Java Runtime registry CLSID as detailed above.
<applet code=Applet1.class width="200" height="200">
Your browser does not support the <code>applet</code> tag.
</applet>
When the above call is made either, a) the applet will load in the Microsoft Java Runtime, b) the applet will load in a particular Sun Java Runtime as its being redirected or c) the applet wont load at all as Microsoft Java Runtime isnt installed and Sun Java isnt set as default.
The above can be uncontrolled as to what version of Java (if any) is actually used to launch an applet so have an alternative solution is to us the Object tag in place of the Applet tag. Its only suitable for Internet Explorer in an internal, Intranet environment but should be ideal for us.
By replacing the Applet HTML tag with the Object tag when loading an applet you can specify in the tag either to use the latest installed version of Sun Java or a specific version by putting its CLSID in the list. (example below.)
<OBJECT
classid="clsid:CAFEEFAC-0014-0002-0006-ABCDEFFEDCBB"
width="200" height="200">
<PARAM name="code" value="Applet1.class">
</OBJECT>
The advantage in the above approach is we can install a specific version of Java, i.e. 1.4.2.06 that doesnt redirect the Microsoft Java Runtime so wont effect other applications, and we can be safe in the knowledge that even if we install a newer version of Java on a machine that has 1.4.2.06 we wont have any backwards compatibility problems.
The Object tag is an Internet Explorer only solution, but could be scaled, as to load a different version of Java you specify a different CLSID, whether thats one of the versions of Sun Java or Microsoft Java or you can specify a CLSID that covers the latest installed version of Sun Java if you dont want to tie the application to a specific version.
Further details on the use of the Applet and Object tags can be found on the Sun website below so they may be of use if the HTML code that calls the Java applet can be easily changed to support our requirements.

Outlook Connector and contacts
I have installed JES 2005q4 from the Deployment Example: Sun JES 2005q4 on a Single Host document.
I have installed it to the letter as much as possible.
I am having a hard time with contacts in Outlook:
When I search for Contacts in Outlook it searches ldap.
If I try to add a contact in Outlook I get an error:
"Unable to establish a session with the Address Book Server. Contact your system administrator for help or try later."
I can add and search for contacts from a web browser at http://fqhn/uwc.
I have scoured the documentation and only found vague references to the address book server. It appears to just be part of the unified web client. My unified web client is working perfectly.
Can anyone shed light on this? The previous reply is useless and the link us broken.
Does anyone know the solution to this? If I search for the text of the error message, this is the only hit on the entire internet... -
Question about Outlook 2010 and Contact list
Good afternoon all, OK so I have been trying to research this problem but I don't know if it can be done. In Outlook 2010 we created a contact list that we use to fax and email referring physicians. In Outlook when you click on a contact in that list and add it to the "To" line it come up with the persons name of the contact I picked, but what if I wanted to fax that contact and needing just the fax number that in that contact card to only come up. Is there a setting that allows me to change what info I want to be seenin the"TO" line of the email? To give a bit more info: Our company just purchased the GFI FaxMaker software that allows us to fax from our PC.We purchased it because it integrated with MS Outlook. What wasn't told to us wasthat we had to add "@faxmaker.com"at the end of the fax number. So hence my problem with outlook....

anybody?? thanks
Hi Manigandan,
Thank you very much the problem is resolved, but instead of removing the folder, I placed it on my desktop and placed it back, I have given a more detailed explanation below. And no this is not the entire log on the crash report, it's rather long though.
I followed your instructions, and removed the '5.0.1' folder that was in the 'Edge Animate' folder and stored it on my desktop. It had no content at the time I moved it, like in the '5.0.0' folder in the image below:
I then tried to open Edge Animate again, and the 'Red Error box' didn't show up, however it crashed instantly with the same 'Quit unexpectedly' report.
So I put the '5.0.1' folder back in the 'Edge Animate' folder, and the contents just seemed to be there all of a sudden? (please see image below) and now the program launches fine.
I am still yet to start a project and see if that works ok whilst working on it, however I will inform you if it works fine or any further problems occur, but for now it is all ok.
Thank you very much for you help on this.
Kind Regards,

Adb sync not working for commsync and outlook connector after Patch 122793-
Hello,
I have opened the case 71038740 for this problem.
We have upgraded communication express:
v6.3-4.01 (Patch 122793-17,) ==> v6.3-11.01 (Patch 122793-24)
Communication Express seems to work fine but the adb
synchronisation for outlook connector and commsync does not work anymore.
The errors that we have are:

It looks like it is trying to opening

From what I see, we did not have this error in the previous version.
What is weird, that adb seems to work fine in uwc web interface.
I add the http dialog for the ones who may help me to debug:

Hi,
We are are running Sun Communications Suite 5 ( mail and cal 6.3, directory 6.0, outlook connector 7.2.403.0). We are having some trouble with the Outlook Connector and Global Address List. It seems to be functioning - you go to address book, select GAL, and start searching. Your results will show up however the search takes about 5-10 minutes or so and during the search Outlook "stops responding".
I tried to follow this guide to add vlv indexes:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-5201
It didn't seem to help but I'm unsure on how to verify that it is working with the GAL.
I do not see any errors in the configurator's log or in the directory logs. If you have any suggestions on figuring this out, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

MoHi,
Have a look at:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9320116
Directions on the installation/configuration and requirements of the outlook connector (for 2005Q4 since you haven't told us what version of the comm suite you are using) are available at docs.sun.com e.g.
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/prod/2783#hic
Outlook connector requires that you have UWC (a.k.a communication express) installed and configured, which has it's own requirements. UWC provides the single web-interface to mail & calendar & address-book. Outlook uses the address-book functionality via UWC, IMAP and SMTP for messaging/email, plus WCAP for calendar.

IPhoto 6 and Camera Compatibility
I recently upgraded my OS to 10.5.8 from 10.4... I know very late. I had no intention until the upgrade to my iPhone 3GS required it. Regardless, I am running IPhoto 6.0.6 and it has worked fine. I own a Canon T1i EOS Rebel digital camera. Up until the conversion to Leopard, I would plug the camera into the port and iPhoto would open up and transfer the pics without an issue. Today, I tried to upload pictures, the USB cord was secure on both sides and nothing happened. I turned the camera on and off twice to see if by starting it up connected would change things, nothing did. I ensured that the battery is charged in the camera and that the sleep setting was not tampered with thus not allowing it to transfer.
I am suspicious about the upgrade to Leopard causing this incompatibility issue with my camera. When I did a search on the apple website, the page about iPhoto 6 and camera compatibility is a dead link. So a couple of questions if someone would be kind enough to help me out with:
1) Is the import of pictures not occuring because of an incompatibility issue between my camera and iPhoto 6 suddenly? Or is incompatibility between 10.5.8 and iPhoto 6?
2) What is the best solution? Upgrade to iLife '11? Or will that require upgrading to Snow Leopard as well? Or is it better to buy the $129 bundle of Snow Leopard, iLife and iWork for compatibility issues?
3) Lastly, is there a webpage on apple that shows these compatibility issues? For instance, if I upgrade one thing in the future, all the other software suites that need updating as well?
Thanks in advance to whomever can help me.
Cheers,
-Tod1) Is the import of pictures not occuring because of an incompatibility issue between my camera and iPhoto 6 suddenly? Or is incompatibility between 10.5.8 and iPhoto 6?
Neither. The usual cause for this issue can be a damaged plist file, a setting on the camera or Mac or minor directory damage on the card.
Plist file: Can you access the card with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder)? If so, you might try trash the iPhoto plist file, if not try trash the Image Capture plist file as well.
Settings: What's set to happen when you connect the camera? With iPhoto 6 that's in the Image Capture. Your camera has two modes for talking to the Mac: Mass Storage and PTP. What one are you set to? Try the other one.
Directory Damage: Have you tried using a USB Card Reader? Can the Mac see the card in that?

Hello all,
We are currently looking at the option to use SAP Portal and MS sharepoint. Each ones can be reciprocally producer and consumer. I still have somes questions about connectors and licensing fees.
I estimate I can use WSRP to share web services between them and WEBDAV to share others documents coming from content management. Is that right ?
Is there any additional licensing fees ?
I have the same licensing fees question for using SAP .NET Connector in development use ? and for runtime use ?
Thanks for your feedback
AlainHi Vishal
I guess you are talking about Business Connectors and XI.
If that is the case, the differences are,
SAP XI belongs to SAP Netweaver Technology, whereas BC is an Integration tool provided by Webmethods.
SAP XI is based on a model called "Hub & Spoke" and Business Connectors are "point to point". So by using XI, what happens is that you do not redesign Solutions once again.
With XI you save the entire integration knowledge of a collaborative process centrally in SAP XI: Objects at design time in the Integration Repository and objects at configuration time in the Integration Directory. In this way, SAP Exchange Infrastructure follows the principle of shared collaboration knowledge: You no longer need to search for information about a collaborative process in each of the systems involved, but can call this information centrally instead. This procedure considerably reduces the costs for the development and maintenance of the shared applications.
Also SAP XI comes with pre-configured solutions bundled along with it, so you can straight-away use the solution instead of redesigning.
Also i believe SAP XI is integrated as a required solution for some new mySAP solution like SRM, there are some scenarios within SRM requires SAP XI to be used and we cannot use BC's there.
But incase if you do not have multiple systems connected and communication is between just 2 systems, BC should be sufficient, instead of investing on XI.
But i guess slowly SAP will be stopping its support for BC, as SAP XI can do everything that BC does and even much more.
cheers

On my Toshiba Satellite P10-221, running WinXP, I used to be able to use Fn F5 to switch to my external display. Recently pressing Fn F5 brings up the same menu as always, but the only option is the LCD display. I used to have CRT and TV as options.
