Persist Customized Tab Bar

Hi there, i have been all around the web for this, but i just cannot find a solution that works...
I am currently using storyboards in xcode and I´m working on a project using tab bars. I have over 5 tabs atm and i therefore get the more button, and the user will also be enabled to customize the tab bar order. What I´m windering about is: How do i make the user-customized tab bar order to save when the application terminates. So when the application launches again, the tab bar would be just as the user left it.
As I have said, I have been all around the web for this one. Most of the explenations on this problem are really old, 2008 - 2009. It would be really awsome if someone out there really could explain how to do this, and actually explain where to type in the different code.
Cheers

Tabs relate to the web pages. It is not logical for the tabs to include the address bar and toolbars. This is another example of the triumph of form over function. It should not be necessary to install plugins or fiddle with styles to make Firefox useable.
Have you noticed how it seems to be morphing into Chrome?

• Triggering a custom action in a tab bar controller

Hey guy,
As you know, normally, when you click an item in a tab bar it is going to load a view right?
But I was wondering if there is a way to trigger a custom action when you click an item in a tab bar controller instead of loading a view.
If there is a way to do it, then how to do it?

I think the implementation would depend on whether you wanted the custom action item to remain "selected", and if so, for how long? In other words, is the action item momentary or selectable? In either case, can we assume that tapping the action item leaves the current view visible? If not, what will the user see? Will the action item be visible from all the other views?

• Adding Custom tab name in VF02/VF03 Menu Bar

Hello Gurus,
I am working on one of the requirement in which i need to enhance the Billing transaction VF02/VF03. I had to add custom tab at header level. I have done that successfully. My problem is with adding the new custom tab in VF02/VF03 menu bar. I want to display my custom tab at VF02(after entering VF02 with Billing Document Number) -> GOTO -> Header -> <Custsom tab name> which should lead to my custom tab. Please let me know the procedure we need to follow in acheiving this.
Good Day,
Thanks & Regards,

Hi Uday,
I think there is no possibility to display it standard menu.

• How Do I Save Tab Bar Order When Customized? Using Storyboards.

Anyone out there who could really explain to my how i save the order of the tab bars when the application terminates, making them stay in the order when the application is re-launched? I have been all around the web for this one, and I can´t find a explenation that really explains how to do it. It would be really awsome if someone out there could help me with how I could solve this, really explaining where the different code should go. Keep in mind that i´m using storyboards!
Cheers

That URL is part of a support thread; I'm not sure why you are getting that error.
Google's search preference ([http://support.google.com/websearch/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=425 Support Answer 425]) relates to what happens when you click a link in your search results page: whether it loads in the same tab or a new tab (or new window, if you don't divert new windows to tabs). So that's useful, but it doesn't address your request.
The short term workarounds are:
* If you usually search by pressing Enter, hold the Alt key to launch the search in a new tab -- setting the preference '''browser.search.openintab''' makes the Alt key unnecessary
* If you usually search by clicking the magnifying glass icon, hold the Ctrl key to launch the search in a new tab or "middle-click" the button -- as far as I can tell, there is no preference to do this automatically
Some tab-related add-ons might solve this problem. I saw one blog post saying Tab Mix Plus will change the magnifying glass behavior to always open in a new tab.

• [iphone] Custom Icons in Tab Bars - Not Working

I'm trying to use my own icons on the Tab Bar because the Standard Icons do not fit with what what my menus display.
I've tried saving them as 30x30 black and white .png files, but for some reason the simulator and the device display the icon as a blue square. They will not show the .png.
I've also tried saving it as a .jpg and no dice. Anyone have insight as to why this is?

Here is a procedure that I used to create the tab icons using Photoshop. I am not a photoshop expert in any way so if there may be a shorter approach. The qist is to create a grayscale image with a mask layer, no background and export to png with transparency. After scouring the net for tips and suggestions, I gathered some pointers on twitter and iphone sdk message boards and narrowed down this procedure. So all credit to the original authors! Sorry - I did not keep track of them.
1 You need to create a single layer grayscale image and not worry about how the tab is displayed when it is active (blue background) and gray (inactive). That's handled in the SDK.
Create a grayscale image and save it s jpeg or gif. Delete the background completely
2. Open this image and select all and copy the image to your clipboard. Ensure that you can view the layers/channels/paths window (in Photoshop go to the WINDOW menu and check layers).
3. In the layers/channels window, you will see the layer labeled as "background"
(notice the lock icon on the right extreme)
4. Convert this "background" to a mask layer - double click on the lock icon.
A new layer window will pop up. click ok.
5. select the channels tab, and add an alpha channel by clicking on the small icon on the lower border of the layer/channels window -looks like circle within a rectangle. (it should say "save selection as channel" when you "mouseover" this icon. This message will not be displayed if you have not copied your original image to the clipboard.
6. You should now see two channels listed (Gray and Alpha).
7. Select the Alpha channel and paste from clipboard
8. ensure that both channels are selected for display and Invert the image -- will change colors - reddish tinge
9. Save for web devices, select transparency and png format and save
You can now drag this ping into xcode!

• How can I remove google custom search bar from about:newtab page

When I open Firefox or a new tab I have it set to about:newtab which is great and all. Just recently I noticed a Google search bar on the new tab page though, that it immediately sets my cursor to. I prefer typing in the normal address bar at top. If I don't think to take that extra tedious step to click on the address bar before typing it opens to Google Custom Search Engine. Which does not have the images, maps, etc tabs along top. Making a simple task of researching something or other purpose just that much more annoying to do, because I'll have to type into the address bar anyways.
So I was hoping there is a way to remove this annoying Google Custom Search Bar from my about:newtab?
Or at the least make my cursor start in the address bar, not the Google Custom Search Bar.

• How do I turn off the tab bar in FF 24 when only one window is open?

I have just updated to FF 24.0 from FF 20 with Tab Mix Plus already installed. (OSX 10.6.8) From the Firefox Preferences menu, Tabs box, I have set the "Hide the tab bar:" option to "When I have only one tab." I have also gone to the Tab Mix Plus option box and set the drop down to the same value. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the desired effect. Firefox opens to my home page with a tab at the bottom. (I prefer the tabs at the bottom and that setting still works.) With only one page open, that tab is completely unnecessary, takes up space, and just plain bugs me.
Now, here's what I have found. Once I've started Firefox, if I go to the Tab Mix Plus options box and select "Hide the tab bar: Always" and then set the option back to "When I have only one tab" I can enjoy one page without the tab bar, that is, until I've opened several tabs and then closed all but one. Then I see the tab bar stubbornly remain. An incompatibility between FF and Tab Mix Plus, perhaps. Is FF 24 not letting Tab Mix see the number of open tabs? Dunno. But I can't seem to solve it.

Are you saying that the problem lies not with Firefox but with Tab Mix Plus? Tab Mix worked up through FF 20 to my knowlege. And I see from other questions that the persistant tab bar was an issue with FF 23 as well.
Please note, that setting aside the extension issue, the Firefox preference Tab option should turn off the tab option when there is only one window open without any help from addons or extensions. I have disabled Tab Mix Plus, and set the FF option correctly, but the problem remains. As I see it, FF is not working as this user expects it to and is (slightly) broken.

• How to disable a tab in a spark tab bar?

I have a spark tab bar linked to a ViewStack. In olden days, IIRC, setting the enabled property of a viewstack member would set the corresponding tab inactive. However, if I try that now, the tab control is still active, but the contents of the viewstack for that tab is indeed disabled.
To reiterate: I want certain tabs in a spark tab bar to be disabled (i.e. unable to be chosen and displaying their disabled skin state).
<s:TabBar id="tabBar" dataProvider="{tabStack}" x="70" y="91" skinClass="CalculatorTabsSkin"/>
<mx:ViewStack id="tabStack" width="100%" height="100%" creationPolicy="all" change="tabStack_changeHandler(event)">
<s:NavigatorContent id="nc1" label="PIERS">
<comp:Tab1 id="tab1" width="100%" height="100%" continue="tab1_continueHandler(event)" />
</s:NavigatorContent>
<s:NavigatorContent id="nc2" label="FOOTINGS">
<comp:Tab2 id="tab2" width="100%" height="100%" continue="tab2_continueHandler(event)" numberOfPiers="{totalNumberPiers}" />
</s:NavigatorContent>
<s:NavigatorContent id="nc3" label="BAGS OR TRUCK?">
<comp:Tab3 id="tab3" width="100%" height="100%" totalCubicYards="{totalCubicYards}" totalNumberBags="{totalNumberBags}" />
</s:NavigatorContent>
</mx:ViewStack>

Addendum:
Literally two minutes after I got back to actually working, I found a more "elegant" solution. I posted it elsewhere, but I guess I forgot to share it here. =/ So I thought I'd update this real quick. =)
If you apply a custom skinClass to your tab bar you can bind the tab.enabled property just like you'd expect/want.

<fx:Script>

[Bindable] private var tab2IsReady:Boolean = false;
private function checkCriteria():void{
tab2IReady = someOtherThing.isFinished;//Boolean

</fx:Script>
<s:TabBar id="theTabBar"
dataProvider="{viewStack}"
skinClass="skins.CustomTabBarSkin"/>
<mx:ViewStack id="viewStack">
<s:NavigatorContent label="Tab index 0">

</s:NavigatorContent>
<s:NavigatorContent label="Tab index 1" enabled="{tab2IsReady}">

</s:NavigatorContent>
</mx:ViewStack>

When you type "skinClass" use the auto complete to generate the custom skin (named whatever you want).
The generated code will appear like below (I left out the Script tag).

<s:Skin
xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:fb="http://ns.adobe.com/flashbuilder/2009"
alpha.disabled="0.5">
<fx:Metadata>

* @copy spark.skins.spark.ApplicationSkin#hostComponent
[HostComponent("spark.components.TabBar")]

</fx:Metadata>

<s:states>
<s:State name="normal" />
<s:State name="disabled" />
</s:states>

<s:DataGroup id="dataGroup" width="100%" height="100%">
<s:layout>
<s:ButtonBarHorizontalLayout gap="-1"/>
</s:layout>
<s:itemRenderer>
<fx:Component>
<s:ButtonBarButton skinClass="spark.skins.spark.TabBarButtonSkin" />
</fx:Component>
</s:itemRenderer>
</s:DataGroup>
</s:Skin>

Then add the enabled property to the ButtonBarButton & bind it to data.enabled in your skin class.
Change:
<fx:Component>
<s:ButtonBarButton skinClass="spark.skins.spark.TabBarButtonSkin" />
</fx:Component>
To:
<fx:Component>
<s:ButtonBarButton skinClass="spark.skins.spark.TabBarButtonSkin"
enabled="{data.enabled}" />
</fx:Component>
Then any <s:NavigatorContent/> used with a TabBar using that skin will respect the enabled property and do exactly what you expect & want (be enabled when true, & disabled when false).
Hope this helps some people. WIsh I'd remembered to re-post it here when I first figured it out.
Happy Coding! =D

• Loading a Tab Bar Controller

Hi,
I am trying to make an iPhone application where there will be a settings view that is made of a tab bar controller. I have declared the tabBarController, and linked it to the app delegate in the main window.xib file. However, when I try to switch to it by pressing my button that should start the IBAction to switch to it, the app terminates due to an uncaught exception. Here is my code:
-(void)switchToSettings {
[UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL];
[UIView setAnimationDuration:1.5];
[UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromRight forView:window cache:YES];
[[gameViewController view] removeFromSuperview];
[self.window addSubview:[settingsTabBarController view]];
[UIView commitAnimations];
gameViewController = nil;
Someone please help! Thanks in advance.

• Custom Tabs in Risk Analysis and Remediation

In the configuration Tab of the RAR, one has the ability to add 3 custom tabs. These custom tabs appear to the right of the Configuration Tab. The name which brings up the tab is appended at the end of the url as mentioned in the configuration guide. For example if you append "CCdebugger" the Debugger tab is appended.
Does anyone know what other tabs can be added and how does go about finding the names of the tabs that can be appended like the one example shown above? The configuration guide does not provide any list of tabs that can be attached in this way. (Granted the maximum at a time is 3).
Would appreciate your help and input on this.
Thanks

Hello Arun,
You can add in custom tabs any webservice (webservices urls can be found in UME Web Services Navigator) or any other link even external (as a webmail or a google search bar!).
You are free to configure your custom tabs according to your needs, but do keep in mind that custom tabs are common to all users!
For information here are 3 tabs we have chosen to configure:
debug mode : .../webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/grc~ccappcomp/BgJobStart?debug=1
CC Background deamon : .../sap/CCBgStatus.jsp
Thread follow up : .../sap/CCADStatus.jsp
Hope this helps,

• "No entry in the table T589A for P" in PPOME's custom Tab

Hello,
requisites: Add one custom Tab to transaction PPOME relative to Position (Object type S)
problem:"No entry in the table T589A for P" when entering the transaction PPOME, and choose my new added Tab.
I get this error message "No entry in the table T589A for P" when entering the transaction PPOME, and choose my new added Tab.
The thing is, if I comment the line "MODULE BEFORE_OUTPUT" in subscreen 7000 of the infotype (the tab is infotype specific) this error disappear. But then the data entered in the tab, which should be relative to one position (type S), is now displayed for all positions. When leaving the transaction, and entering again, in the same tab, the data has disappeared.
I think I should not comment this: "MODULE BEFORE_OUTPUT"
Why is this error being raised, and what must I do do stop it?
Thank you.

Hi,
The table T589A is a configuration table pertaining to the pf status of the infotype. I changed the pf status of the infotype i.e. added my own buttons on application tool bar. May be cos of that it is giving error. Not sure.......

• Tab bar application and UIScrollView

Hi Everyone,
I am creating a tabbar application.
I have 5 tabs already setup, and now one of the tabs needs a few more fields appended to the bottom of the view.
I am using a single NIB file with all the views built inside of it.
What I need to do is take the second tab and add a UIScrollView to it, so I can add the additional fields to the bottom.
I would like to stick with using IB....
Here is the stack I have setup, please advise where I would insert the UIScrollView
App
First Responder
App Delegation
Window
Tab Bar Controller
Tab Bar
Main View Controller (Log)
Selected Main View Controller (Permit)
Scroll View
View
Tab Bar Item (Permit)
Main View Controller (Tags)
Main View Controller (Release)
Main View Controller (Other)
I have placed the ScrollView both within the View, and, as shown, a view as a child of the scroll view...
I have set the height of the view and the scroll view at 800px
Please advise on what I am missing in this.

I have all the views loaded within the same XIB file.
It's usually better to make a separate xib for each view. The most important reason for this is memory management. Firstly, all the views defined in MainWindow.xib are loaded at startup. This means a view will be loaded even if its tab is never selected. Views defined in a separate xib won't be loaded unless and until they're needed.
It's also much easier to unload a view if its defined in a separate xib, since the view, along with all its subviews, can be reloaded at any time by simply reloading the xib (e.g. by initing a new controller with [initWithNibName:bundle:|http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentatio n/UIKit/Reference/UIViewControllerClass/Reference/Reference.html#//appleref/occ/instm/UIViewController/initWithNibName:bundle:]). This is especially important when the controller receives a low memory warning. For example, the default implementation of [didReceiveMemoryWarning|http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentatio n/UIKit/Reference/UIViewControllerClass/Reference/Reference.html#//appleref/occ/instm/UIViewController/didReceiveMemoryWarning] will unload a view defined in a separate xib because the method knows how to reload that view.
Another reason for separate xibs is that the main xib needs to be loaded before the app can launch. Anytime you remove an object from MainWindow.xib, you'll reduce launch time.
should i have a view for each of the tabs in the main form?
You probably already have a view for each of the tabs, so I assume you meant to ask, "Should i have a separate xib file for each controller which is connected to the tab bar controller in MainWindow.xib?"
If I restated the question correctly, the answer is yes, as explained above.
Note the Tab Bar App template demonstrates both ways to define each controller's view. The first view controller's view is defined in MainWindow.xib. The second controller's view is defined in SecondView.xib. The difference between these setups can be seen in the Attributes Inspector. If you select the First View Controller (most easily done in the xib (icon) window if the View Mode switch is in the Center position to display the view hierarchy) and open the Attributes Inspector, you'll see the NIB Name selection is blank. If you then select the Second View Controller, the NIB Name selection will be "SecondView".
You could move the First View Controller's view to a separate xib by making a new xib named "FirstView.xib" (File->New File..->iPhone OS->User Interface->View XIB), deleting the View object under the First View Controller in MainWindow.xib, and then setting the NIB Name selection in the Attributes Inspector to "FirstView". After that, open FirstView.xib, select File's Owner and set its Class to FirstViewController in the Identity Inspector, then connect the View object to the 'view' outlet of File's Owner.
You can make a separate xib for any of your views in the same way. Of course in the case of a scrolling view, you would add a UIScrollView object and connect it to the 'view' outlet of File's Owner, then connect the UIView object to the 'contentView' outlet of File's Owner as discussed previously (after setting the Class of File's Owner to a custom class that has a contentView IBOutlet).
Whenever you make a separate xib for one of your views, _make sure File's Owner is set to the same class as its parent controller object in MainWindow.xib_.

• Custom Tool Bar in Adobe

Hi all,
We have an requirement where in we have to provide a tool bar to the end user to edit the PDF at run time. The user should be able to select elements from the tool bar to add to the form. Is it possible through ALD?? or is there any other ADOBE tool through which we can acheive this?
The user's have been using a Standard Template in MS Word till now, in which custom tool bar was created with Visual Basic Macros, which embeds things in doc file, which become place holders for SAP Data. They can freely edit the doc file to keep or delete what they want as per their requirement.
Can we acheive a simmilar requirement in Adobe?
We have to create such a standard template in PDF.
I tried with ALD 8.0, but i guess we cannot add a custom tool bar with it.
Regards,

Hi,
As of my knowledge on SAP IFBA custom toolbars or tabs or Upload(in online IFBA i.e. through webdynpro ABAP) functionalities are not supported. If your requirement demands to design these kind of forms then on your own you need to have a work arround. If you design these kind of forms then the performance of the adobe forms get decreases.
If you find any workaround to these functionalities it will be nice if you present them in a Blog.

• Always show tab bar - Safari 3 - Leopard

Hey. I recently lost all of my Home Folder's files, and now Safari 3 in Leopard does not allow me to always show the tab bar. I look in preferences, and the option is not there.
How do I enable to always show the tab bar?

Hi
Welcome to Apple Discussions
Go to the View Menu>Show Tab Bar or Shift/Command/T keys to show or hide. Tabs need to be enabled in your Safari Preferences>Tabs.
As you have a new Safari Preference file, besides resetting the preferences in the preference panel, you'll need to reset any custom options, such as spelling in the Edit Menu or the various options in the View Menu. Also, additional icons can be added via View>Customize Toolbar via Drag/Drop on the ToolBar.
