Persistant ebook downloading error

I have had ADE for a while, but hadn't used it lately. I very recently bought a Nook and was eager to download library books. Unfortunately, from both the Overdrive site AND from the Adobe Sample ebook Library, every time I try to download a book, I receive the swame error message:
     "Adobe Reader could not open 'URLLINK[2].acsm' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example,
     it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
After "troubleshooting," I tried downloading updates to ADE. Still didn't work. I then unistalled and reinstalled ADE - twice. STILL the same error message. When I look for support from Overdrive, it sends me to my "local library." I work at the local library. That won't help. Are there any ideas out there as to how to fix this issue?

From the error message you have Adobe Reader set up to handle .acsm files.  You need to get ADE to be the application of choice for the .acsm files.  The details for this vary by OS.   On the Mac select a .acsm file, select Get Info - look in the Open With section, select Adobe Digitial Edtions, and then press the Change All... button.

    I copied a book from cd onto my MAC and it ended up in my music.  It works fine there, not optimal because i have to select every chapter and each new disc, but I can work with it OK.  When i tried to sync with my ipad only some of the chapters can be heard.  Others play but with no sound.  Can I fix this?

    You should be able to delete the book from iBooks on your iPad via the Edit button at the top right of the bookshelf and then re-download it via the Purchased tab at the bottom of the ibookstore in the app : re-downloading.
    If it re-downloads in the state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that ibook and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

    I had the exact same problem & this worked for me. All I needed was the first step. Good luck!!!! (copied from another thread):
    "Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
    Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help, and indeed installation can even trigger this state.
    Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
    A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
    Another is  "E_AUTH_NOT_READY"
    This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
    Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
    In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.   • Download Error on Mavericks (mac)

    When I go to the Creative Cloud application on the desktop, I go to the Apps tab and I get "Download Error" and when I try to reload the application, the error persists. 
    I'm on a macbook running Mavericks, I've deleted the AAMUpdater (though it creates a new one every time I reload the applications) folder in ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe...  As per Re: Creative Cloud "Download Error" message , I looked in the OOBE folder and there was no opm.db, just a singe folder alias called "PDApp," which contained a pim.db, along with a bunch of other folders and files.  
    When I enabled the root user and logged into that account after restarting, I tried the Apps tab again and it was working just fine, in the root user.  But when I logged out and back into my regular account, I was still getting the download error.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Creative Cloud and that didn't work. I have Photoshop and Fireworks installed, so it WAS working at some point in time... I'm out of ideas...  Help please?

  • "Download Error" in CC App

    When I run the CC App, under "Apps" there is a large WARNING SYMBOL, followed by the words, "Download Error."
    I am given the option to "Download Creative Cloud," which I have done twice, uninstalling it, and re-installing it each time. However, the warning persists.
    Please help.
    I attempted to "chat" with CC Support, but the chat widget is broken. It tells me that agents are available, but clicking on "Start Chat" only reloads my initial query. It is impossible to actually CHAT with an agent.
    So I'm stuck.

    OK, nevermind. The THIRD installation seems to have worked.  What a pointless, time-wasting hassle.
    The support chat is STILL broken though ...

  • Creative Cloud opens, then halts and says "download error - please call customer support".  Do I have too?

    I'm trying to put CC on Mac 10.9.4 and it keeps giving me the same error.

  • Getting a "Download Error" and can't download any programs or see my app list.

    I am using a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.9.1 and I have been paying for and using CC for several months. This week, I had a persistent bug with Ps so I uninstalled it, with the intent of reinstalling to see if that fixed the error. However today when I clicked the CC icon and went to Apps, none of my programs show up. Instead, it just says "Download Error. Please retry again or contact customer support." There was a button to "reload applications" but nothing happens when clicked. I just want to download the programs I am paying for!
    I have an internet connection (obviously, since I'm posting here) and have looked through the forums and support articles with no luck. I tried uninstalling CC, using the CC cleaning tool, and reinstalling, but nothing changed except that now I can't use any of my CC programs since they were all uninstalled with the clean. I have restarted my computer and checked my connection. I also waited on hold for live support for a while, but I'm at work and I honestly don't have the time to sit and stare at my screen, waiting, for an indeterminate amount of time.
    Can anyone help me with this? I can't do my job without the CC programs so this is extremely frustrating.

    I think I have fixed this. Even more googling found me a community support thread where following the advice in #5 and #9 seem to have brought my Apps tab back to life. Specifically, I deleted the folder mentioned and restarted the program. This took two tries to take effect.
    Now I am redownloading Ps and will post back if I run into another roadblock. Thanks for all yr help Adobe, that $20/mo really buys excellent support and all the articles were super helpful with my issue. /Sarcasm

    I am trying to download a library book (Epub ebook) into my Mac laptop. I have updated my Adobe Edition to 4.0. I keep getting this message

    I have gotten in touch with the library. They advised me to do the following:
    Mac OS
    Open Adobe Digital ! Editions.
    Press Command+Shift+D to deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions.
    Select Erase Authorization.
    Click OK and Quit Adobe Digital Editions.
    Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.
    I am stuck on  Erase Authorization.  After I choose erase authorization another message pops up: Unable to  Erase Authorization. Please try again after some time. I tried all day in fact I even went to the Apple Store where a staff member was also unable to get any further!!

    I see you are getting an "error 2 download" message and can not complete the firmware update. Please complete the steps in the following document; A 'Firmware Corrupt Ready 2 Download' Error Message Displays on the Control Panel.
    If the issue persists, I recommend calling HP and letting the know the issue as well as the steps you have already completed. It may be helpful to even let them know you completed all of the steps in HP document #c03109721.
    If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
    HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check. Even if the printer is out of warranty I suggest still calling HP to see if there is something they can do to help.

  • Download Error (-3256)

    Just got a new Apple TV for Christmas. I updated it to the newest version of the software, and I've been having all sorts of odd glitches when syncing and downloading. I have to pull the plug on it a few times a day, and it's becoming very frustrating. The newest (and most annoying) error I've encountered is the dreaded "Download Error (-3256)". Like clockwork, this error will appear after every percentage of my rental is downloaded. I've been at the download screen for nearly an hour now, waiting patiently for the error to appear so I can hit the resume button on the download. I'm only at 25%, so I still need to hit the button exactly 75 more times before I can watch this movie. I'm seriously going to go crazy. What does this error mean? Is this a problem with my device? Or my network?

    I would suspect a network issue between ATV and whatever device provides the broadband connection. ..possibly firewall related. Try switching the firewall off as a quick test to see whether the problem persists...

  • Adobe download (error)not recognized w/ my MAC since FF3.6.12 installed

    My Mac is 10.6.4 and I updated FireFox 3.6.12 in Oct. Since then, if I'm in a website (e.g.APS) to download my statement I used to get it downloaded into a PDF. Now I get a download error message saying it cannot open the .acx file extension. I get this same error message whether I'm in any website I need to download something. I can download fine if I'm using my Safari. I have uninstalled Reader 9.4 along with Flash Player and re-installed both w/o any luck in being able to download files in any website. The Unable to download or save files HELP didn't have anything that worked to correct the problem. Is this a bug w/ FireFox 3.6.12 with Macs? I did not have this download error problem before updating to 3.6.12.

    Has anything else changed?
    Does the problem persist across a system restart?
    You might try a restart in safe mode, then an ordinary restart - sometimes that cures weird failures.

    There are a couple things that I would recommend trying.  Try closing all open applications and power cycle the device.  Next, go through the section labeled Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in the second article below.  If the issue persists, try completely signing out of the iTunes Store on the iOS device and sign back in.  Be sure to test downloading an application after each step.

  • Re-downloading after download errors.

    I had download errors on my PC after purchasing a CD, consequently some tracks were faulty. I have tried to redownload these tracks from "Purchased items". All the tracks are shown as "Downloaded" and there is no cloud icon shown for downloading. What am I missing?

    Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
    If you don't see them straight away it may help to close and restart iTunes.
    While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
    If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.
