Persistence.xml under classes/META-INF makes other jar references to miss

Hi,
When I am adding persistence.xml to classes/META-INF folder where classes folder got other packages under it, classes in such packages are not getting reference to respective jar files in lib folder. So, deployment of the web project in OAS (Oracle application server) 10g fails mentioning NoClassDef found for classes from library jars referred. If I remove persistence.xml from here, the war file is getting deployed. Deployment fails even when the persistence.xml is available anywhere in classpath (like WEB-INF).
What is the reason & how to correct it?Any alternative approach like manifest or use some settings in OAS?

Hi,
To be accessible to the EJB JAR, WAR, or EAR file, a class or a JAR file must be on the deployment classpath. You can achieve this in one of the following ways:
Put the JAR file in the manifest classpath of the EJB JAR or WAR file. Do this by adding a classpath entry to the META-INF/MANIFEST.MF file in the JAR or WAR file. You may specify one or more directories or JAR files, separating them by spaces. The following example shows how the manifest file classpath entry adds the employee/emp-classes.jar file and the employee/classes directory to the classpath of the JAR file that contains the manifest file:
Class-Path: employee/emp-classes.jar employee/classes
Place the JAR file in the library directory of the EAR filethis will make this JAR file available on the application classpath and accessible by all of the modules deployed within the EAR file. By default, this would be the lib directory of the EAR file, although you may configure it to be any directory in the EAR file using the library-directory element in the application.xml deployment descriptor. The following example shows the application.xml file:
<application ...>
<library-directory>myDir/jars</library-directory>
</application>
Java EE allows for persistence support in a variety of packaging configurations. You can deploy your application to the following module types:
EJB modules: you can package your entities in an EJB JAR. When defining a persistence unit in an EJB JAR, the persistence.xml file is not optionalyou must create and place it in the META-INF directory of the JAR alongside the deployment descriptor, if it exists.
Web modules: you can use WAR file to package your entities. In this case, place the persistence.xml file in the WEB-INF/classes/META-INF directory. Since the WEB-INF/classes directory is automatically on the classpath of the WAR, specify the mapping file relative to that directory.
Persistence archives: a persistence archive is a JAR that contains a persistence.xml file in its META-INF directory and the managed classes for the persistence unit defined by the persistence.xml file. Use a persistence archive if you want to allow multiple components in different Java EE modules to share or access a persistence unit. The following example shows how to package entities in a persistence archive:
emp.ear
emp-persitence.jar
META-INF/persistence.xml
META-INF/orm.xml
examples/model/Employee.class
examples/model/Phone.class
examples/model/Address.class
examples/model/Department.class
examples/model/Project.class
Once you created a persistence archive, you can place it in either the root or the application library directory of the EAR. Alternatively, you can place the persistence archive in the WEB-INF/lib directory of a WAR. This will make the persistence unit accessible only to the classes inside the WAR, but it enables the decoupling of the definition of the persistence unit from the web archive itself.

Vinay

<pool> should not have any value. Instead it shud have the child nodes
    <max-beans-in-free-pool> and/or <initial-beans-in-free-pool>
    it will look like
    <pool>
    <max-beans-in-free-pool> 500 </max-beans-in-free-pool>
    <initial-beans-in-free-pool>100 </initial-beans-in-free-pool>
    </pool>
    Also, <ejb-ref-name> and <jndi-name> goes under <ejb-reference-descriptor>
    which is under <reference-descriptor>
    So it would look like
    <reference-descriptor>
    <ejb-reference-description>
    <ejb-ref-name> .. </ejb-ref-name>
    <jndi-name> .. </jndi-name>
    <ejb-reference-description>
    </reference-descriptor>
The jndi name should also be defined for the bean. Also note that ejb-refs
are defined under a bean which is referring other beans. Like Transaction
should not refer to itself. Rather if it is referring to Customer, then
ejb-ref will be defined for CustomerBean.
    Hope it helps.

  • Deploying persistence.xml in ejb-jar componts

    Hi,
If you are deploying ejb-jar components which are packaged independently and are remote components but they all access the same database, do you put the persistence.xml in the META-INF of each component (ejb-jar). If not, where would it go?
I can find lots of references to having a single persistence.xml with many configurations but if (theoretically) each bean is deployed on a separate JVM/Container how would it access the persistence.xml?
    Thanks.

If you are deploying the EJB JARs to different Java EE servers, then yes, each EJB JAR needs its own persistence.xml. You would configure each Java EE server to point to the same JDBC resource.
If you are deploying them all to the same server, you should package the entity classes into a single JAR file, and include that JAR file in an EAR with the other EJB JARs. In that scenario, persistence.xml is in the JAR's META-INF directory. The JAR file can either be in the top-level of the EAR, or in the EAR's library directory. In this case, the scope of the persistence unit is the entire EAR.

  • If an app uses JPA with a WAR, where does persistence.xml go?

If I'm constructing an app using JPA entities, but just in a WAR file, not an EAR file, as I'm not using the other EJB components, where does the persistence.xml file get deployed to? Is it just WEB-INF/classes, or do I have to do something like WEB-INF/classes/META-INF (one resource i saw implied this)?

If you're using JDeveloper or Eclipse Webtools and you put the persistence.xml in src\META-INF compiling will put it into WEB-INF\classes\META-INF for you.

  • META-INF/context.xml, Tomcat, META-INF/services

I presently have a Netbeans project laid out like this:
    src
    src\java
    web
    web\META-INF
    web\META-INF\context.xml
etc. Tomcat finds that META-INF/context.xml OK and does what I expect with it.
I have recently added something that is loaded by java.util.ServiceLoader, which requires a META-INF/services/x.y.z file containing the name(s) of the classes that implement x.y.z. After deployment, my webapp's ServiceLoader doesn't find it, because in the target it isn't in WEB-INF/classes/META-INF/services/x.y.z. If I put it into src/java/META-INF/services/x.y.z it works correctly, as it then ends up in the right place. However I'm now concerned that either Tomcat won't find the context.xml if I put it in the same place under src, because it would then not be in /META-INF/context.xml but rather /WEB-INF/classes/META-INF/context.xml, which in turn would mean that I would then need two META-INF directories. I'm about to test that conjecture about Tomcat finding it under WEB-INF/classes/META-INF, but I'm wondering whether I'm doing something basically wrong in the first place here.

You seem to think that you can have only one META-INF directory; this is simply not true. Keep both your META-INF directories and put the files where they are expected. Yay for using overlapping names :/

  • Contents of META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory?

I am currently working on an applet that solves Sudoku puzzles, allowing you to build your own in a Constructor and then solve them in a seperate Solver. To do this, we are implementing the puzzles files as XML documents.
I have the code completely complied and on the server ( [sudoku.unl.edu|sudoku.unl.edu]) and it runs NEARLY perfectly, however when trying to access the server to save the xml code, the apache error_log presents this message: "File does not exist: classes/META-INF/services
    /javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory"
Looking at the Java Doc here it says that the program should look for that in the jars. I am unsure of exactly how the applet is interacting with the server, but typing "java -version" yields:
    java version "1.6.0_11"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_11-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0-b16, mixed mode)Notably, the code works PERFECTLY in NetBeans, contacting the server using SCP and uploading the file and such, so the code doesn't seem to be the problem, unless I need to direct the DocumentBuilder code somehow. When I place text in it, it appends the text with .class and searches for that file, but doesn't seem to do anything with the file. I attempted directing it to the "DocumentBuilderFactory.class" file that I extracted from the classes.jar included with the JDK.
I feel like all I need is this file to contain the correct content and the code will FINALLY work, but I have not been able to find anything out there on it.
Thank for you for your help, sorry this was such a long message.

    Thanks!
Thanks for the fast reply. I don't know if I made my point clear.
I do not want to determine the parser by myself. I want the client system use the default parser, so I do not have the hit of downloading the fairly large parser jar.
However, I want it not to do an empty request to the server for nothing. This turn around time kills an Applet. I want a fast loading applet!
I'll go in trial and error mode, when I find the time next week.
    Thanks again, I appreciate it!

  • JspParseException:  TLD file under JAR's META-INF not found

I have succesully deployed an external generated WAR file using the Developer Studio 'Deploy View'.  However, I get an exception at runtime:
com.sap.engine.services.servlets_jsp.jspparser_api.exception.JspParseException: Error in parsing the taglib tag in the JSP page. Cannot resolve URI: [http://www.some.url/some/location].
This URI is defined in a TLD file which is embeded in the META-INF of a JAR which is located in WEB-INF/lib of the WAR file.
This same exact WAR file deploys fine in Tomcat.
Could this be a bug in the J2EE Preview?  Any workarounds here?
    Enrique

    Hello everybody
I,ve the same problem when I try to deploy a jsf application that uses Esri tags.
The war work fine In a Tomcat but when I deploy the application in the WAS 5 I get the error Error in parsing the taglib tag in the JSP page. Cannot resolve URI: [http://www.esri.com/adf/web].
I think there aren't problems with the TLD because the proyect runs fine in other environment. It seems like the WAS wasn't able to connect with the URI.
Do you know any solution ?
    Thank in advance.

  • Persistence.xml in Hybrid Flex-Java

    Hi all,
I've started working on a Hybrid project of Flex-Java using a new setup that is available since Flex Builder 3 Final. It creates 1 project that will hold a flex_src folder, java_src folder and WebContent folder where the compiled files will go to using an internal Eclipse Tomcat server.
Now I want to use persistence.xml for hibernate. But I can't figure out where to place this file inside this project? Is there someone here who does know? Thanks a lot in advance.
    Cheers,
    Rick

Create a META-INF subdirectory of src and place it in there. This will then be deployed in the resulting WAR file to <appbase>/WEB-INF/classes/META-INF/persistence.xml which is where it needs to end up.

  • Visual Web JSF web app unable to render. The theme tries to access META-INF

    Hi,
BACKGROUND: I have created a Netbeans 6 Visual Web Project using the default Visual Web JSF Theme. My web application can be viewed properly and correctly when i deploy it on tomcat 6.
ARCHITECTURE: Our server configuration requires IIS to be our web server and tomcat to be our app server. Both are running on different machines. I have successfully linked up IIS 6 and tomcat 6 using the JK isapi_redirector.
PROBLEM: However, when i connect to my app via IIS, my starting page opens but the input box components on that page are not displayed and i get several javascript errors that read - 'dojo is undefined' and 'webui is undefined'.
PROBLEM DETAILS: I found that the page being served had a lot of files being requested from a META-INF folder. I have attached a snippet here.

Somebody tries to hack into the site!!!+*". The same message is repeated for several more javascript files that are being served from under the META-INF path.
Any help or advice in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!!

I managed to find a workaround. Thought i should share it with those who are faced with a similar issue.
I found that a bug report had been placed in the past with Apache Dev. However, they had said that they would not modify their logic because the servlet container spec requires it (even though isapi_redirector is only a connector and not a container). They said that there is no way for the isapi_redirector to differentiate between /foo/WEB-INF when foo is a context and when foo is just a sub-directory of the ROOT web application. So, the general consensus was to err on the side of safety and risk blocking a few requests that are valid.
However, this causes a serious issue for those using NetBeans JSF Visual Web Projects. Hence, I created my own flavour of isapi_redirector by modifying the code such that this check is not performed and leaving the onus of checking on Tomcat.
For those who are interested, the simplest way to go about this would be to force the function uri_is_web_inf (in jk_isapi_plugin.c ) to always return FALSE.

If I manually copy a file into the myapp\src folder, the file does not get copied to the bin-debug folder and, thus does not get added to the list of files to include.  I build my app dozens of times. This file NEVER appears in the file list under the src folder in the Package Explorer View.  Even if I close Flash Builder and open it again, my added file NEVER appears in the file list.
Only if I right click on my project in the Package Explorer View and select Refresh, will the file appear in the list.  Then and only then, when I go through the Export process, the file will appear in the list and be included in the AIR package.
That seems like a bug to me.  Even if you said it wouldn't detect the file being added while Flash Builder is open, it should at least check the project folder when I open it and update the list with any new files.
I'd still like to know how to get this to work without manually refreshing the project although admittedly I won't be adding files to the project often.
The "Copy non-embedded files to output folder" option is something good to know. I initially unchecked it and saved and rechecked it, just to be sure it was set.

  • Problem deploying connector: META-INF/ejb-jar.xml not found in jar file

              Has anyone seen this problem:
I built Sun's Blackbox implementation and packaged
it identical to the BlackBoxNoTx.rar included with
Weblogic's 'jconnector' sample (even using the same
ra.xml and weblogic-ra.xml). When I try to deploy
              it, the server reports:
              java.io.FileNotFoundException:
META-INF/ejb-jar.xml not found in jar file
I have no idea why the server thinks my connector
is an EJB. If I deploy the BlackBoxNoTx.rar included
with the sample, everything works without a hitch.
The only variable that I'm changing in my BlackBoxNoTx.rar
is that I build the Blackbox classes myself--otherwise,
the RAR packagings are identical. Any assistance is
greatly appreciated since I'm banging my head against
              a wall...
              Thanks,
              -jason

I was finally able to resolve this one. On the odd chance that someone else encounters
the same problem, here's what went wrong:
My RAR file had two directories: 'META-INF' and 'meta-inf'. The first was created
by the jar tool and contained the manifest.mf file. The second I created manually
and it contained my ra.xml and weblogic-ra.xml. When I examined the RAR using
any tools or I extracted the contents, it looked like it only contained one directory:
              META-INF (because NT is case-insensitive).

  • ERROR ITMS-9000: "META-INF/container.xml must contain one and only one root file reference."

    Hi all,
After correcting a table-of-contents error in my .epub file, I am unable to upload it via iTunes Producer. It lists this error message:
ERROR ITMS-9000: "META-INF/container.xml in 9780615431727.epub must contain one and only one root file reference." at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)
The file has been verified and only has one root file reference in the container.xml file.
Has anyone been able to find a solution to this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hello Forum Users…
For those of you who have run into the upload roadblock, getting an error message similar to this:
    Package Summary:
1 package(s) were not uploaded because they had problems:
/Users/slm/Desktop/MUSIC to PICTURE for IBOOK/2012 MTP for iTUNES Bookstore/9780615600918.itmsp - Error Messages:
Apple's web service operation was not successful
Unable to authenticate the package: 9780615600918.itmsp
ERROR ITMS-9000: "OPS/ibooks.ncx(5): 'p50': fragment identifier is not defined in 'OPS/content9.xhtml'" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)
Following is a "specific" fix, but the idea of the fix will help you with your specifics too.
I tried for 17 days to upload a book that looked and worked perfectly in iPAD via Preview.
After many discussions with Apple, who to their credit stayed with me over 2-3 days, I decided to play a hunch.
I went into a duplicated copy of the book and on every page, (because the error message was not telling the whole story), looked for what InDesign would call "Overset Text."
Now... the "flaw" in iBOOK Author (hint) is that it won't advise you of this "overset text" as does InDesign.
And to compound the matter, the exported ePUB document WORKS in iPAD Preview.
    See Screenshots from InDesign:
Okay... Couldn't add it but it is a Warning Box that says there is overset text. (Characters which exceed the text box.)
Nevertheless, I played this hunch, and sure enough found a few boxes with the + in them.  In other words I clicked on EVERY text holder and every text block in the entire document.
Where I found + signs, I simply deleted some carriage returns from the iBOOK file... (please note… carriage returns and literally empty spaces that caused the overset text) and then erased all previous copies of the Music to Picture Book on my hard drive,  iTUNES and iPAD.
The result?  A "text-book" upload with no snags!  As my Son would say… "Victory!"
So, first make sure that you are using only PNGs, Jpegs and Movie files to iBook Specs.  Then... make sure there are no overset text boxes, which you must do manually.
    Enjoy & Godspeed!

It is a bug for the EJB container to respond with an NPE.
(It's been fixed in v9 Beta, and it might be fixed in an 8.1 service pack but I can't recall off the top of my head). At any rate, I'm pretty sure that an EJB QL query with an empty WHERE clause will cause this. I would look for a query that ends in ' WHERE'.
