Persistent HDTV Settings?

I have an old macbook C2D connected to an HDTV via a Mini DVI-HDMI adapter. I'm trying to use it in mirror mode. In order to make that happen, I have to do the following:
1. Turn on the TV
2. Run "Detect Displays"
After running "Detect Displays" the resolution changes from 1280x800 to 720p and my desktop appears on the TV. Unfortunately, if I turn the TV off, the macbook thinks I've detached it, resets the resolution to 1280x800, and stops sending a signal to the HDTV. If I then turn the TV back on, there's no signal, and I have to run "Detect Displays" again.
Is there a way to manually set the display configuration, so that it doesn't change when I turn the TV off? Or to disable the automatic display detection stuff, since I know exactly how I want my displays configured, and I don't ever want it to change?

The only way I know to do that is with external hardware like the Gefen DVI Detective.

  • Zoomable HDTV settings in AI

    I'm shooting an HDTV program that will use illustrations created by an artist using Adobe Illustrator CS 5.  I'm using Adobe Premiere CS5 to edit, with HDTV settings of 1920 x 1080 pixels.  I'm trying to determine what Adobe Ilustrator settings to have the artist use to create illustrations that I can zoom into in Premiere.  I'm using DVCPRO HD footage.  The "Video and Film" DVCPRO HD 1080 preset in AI sets the pixels at Width: 1920 and Height 1080.  If I was going to use the illustrations full screen, the presets would be fine.  But should I increase the pixel count in both the width and height to create an illustration that will stay sharp if I zoom in on it?  Increasing width and height each by a factor of three would give me Width: 5760 and Height: 3240.  Also, should I increase the Raster Effects screen in the Advanced settings from 72 ppi to 300 ppi?  I've been experimenting with these settings, but I'd like to know I'm using settings that look OK now and won't create problems for me at a later stage of the project.
    Also, the DVCPRO HD preset in Adobe Photoshop sets the width at 1280 and the height at 1080.  Can anyone explain the difference in the setting from Photoshop to Illustrator?  I see that the DVCPRO HD footage I import to Premiere reads as 1280 x 1080, and I understand there's some sort of conversion.  Sure would like to understand more about it.  Anyone know if a good tutorial that explains this?
    Thanks much.

    You can set the artboard dimensions to your own values.
    Regarding the zooming: In After Effects you can choose to continouusly raster a layer so that zooming in is possible. Maybe you have this setting as well in Premiere.

  • Persistent Application Settings

    I am porting an application from c++/Qt to java. Qt has a class, QSettings, that makes it easy to 'record' persistent application settings, so your app can remember its state. Qt stores these settings in various places. For example, /home/.config./companyName/settings.
    Does Java have a similar Class?

  • Qosmio X305-Q705 - No hdmi video on hdtv

    I've been really trying hard to hook up my laptop to Sharp Aquos 32' 1080p hdtv (Model - LC32GP1U) thru HDMI cable and can't get any external video. When I press FN+F5 the only option I have to choose from is LCD. I did read my hdtv settings and based on the manual it has to be set a specific video resolution. Regardless if my laptop video is native or a the desired hdtv video resolution (I set it 1024x768 32bit color) I still can't get any external video on my tv. I restarted my pc and still no external video. I also bought an hdmi to dvi conversion cable (connecting dvi to the back of my hdtv) and still no video. Is there way to test out if the hdmi port works on the pc. Does it work like a usb port??...meaning do you hear a sound when your connect/disconnect the hdmi cable? Or am i doing something wrong here? I also reinstalled my nvidia geforce 9700m gts drivers and also downloaded the new video drivers - beta version from toshiba support site that eventually leads to nvidia site. Right now I'm current waiting for the vga to dvi conversion cable as this is the last resort and I'm hoping it's going to work. If anyone has an other suggestions, I would really appreciate it. I would hate to use vga to dvi and there's no sound and hdmi supports both video/sound.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I have the same model laptop, and I bought  a DVI-HDMI cable so I could plug in my external monitor using the HDMI port.  It's a huge improvement over the VGA output, which produced some horizontal ghosting effect that was annoying.
    When I hit Fn+F5, I see my current video selection with 5 "bubbles" below it.  Keep hitting Fn+F5 until you select the one you want.  I don't understand why it would not give HDMI as one of the options.  I am using the LCD+HDMI option, and set it up to extend my desktop across both monitors.  There are nVidia settings to set all of that in the Display Settings if you right-clickthe Desktop and choose Personalize.
    When I plugged in the HDMI, I plugged in the DVI side on the monitor first, and then plugged in the HDMI.  A bit of a flicker - and it was on.  I assume it's hot-pluggable, never read that it wasn't.  You can double-check the RealTek HD Audio Manager and make sure the HD audio ouput is turned too.
    I'm hoping you just have to turn the HDMI on via Fn+F5.  I've never plugged my laptop into my HDTV, but some weekend I'll give it a try just to see how it works/looks.
    Hope this helps, good luck.

  • Saving ALV settings in a Webdynpro for ABAP.

    Hi there,
    I would like to modify from code side the standard filter settings after user selection, i mean:
       i) User adds the filter fields it wants using ALV standard filter settings.
      ii) I add via code an additional field to the filter criteria selected by user.
    I have done that using if_salv_wd_filter~create_filter_rule ( ) but this only affects to the current filter applied and, what i would like to do is adding my new entry to the saved filter rules (i do not want to add my new filter rule to the current ones, i want to add it to the saved ones).
    The functionality i want to achieve is to display a filter header in the ALV (for a field that has not been specified by the user) when the WDA is opened with an initial saved setting profile.
    Is this possible? any suggestion regarding modification of saved filter profiles?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Durga,
    I am afraid that these can not help me :(. The link you have provided refers to information regarding ALV Grid, and i think that there are many model design diferences between ALV Grid and the Abap Webdypro one.
    Anyway i think that the filter settings that can be modified via source code are always related to "on air" filter criteria and i want to modify the "persistent" saved settings profiles.
    All in all, it is a very interesting document in order to implement commons dynpros with ALVs, thanks for the info :).
    Regards.

  • How to write settings into xml

    I?ve got a small class that returns the names of each JInternalFrame. The code is below; I have an xml file where I am saving various settings. In the xml file I have created a tag and in that tag I want to write all the name of the JInternalFrames. Can someone help me with writing a method which will write the frames names into the xml tag.
    package persisted_display_settings;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import mdi_internal_frame.FrameManager;
    import mdi_internal_frame.TSFrame;
    import state_manager.StateManager.Prerequisite;
    * The PersistDisplaySettings looks after the persisted screen settings for each frame.
    * It allows the user to save the layout settings of each screen so that the user doesn't
    * have to reconfigure layout every time they restart
    public class PersistDisplaySettings {
         * Gets the name of all TS frames and the last modified layout information and saves
         * this in a xml file
         * @param projectDir is the project directory
         public void SaveCurrentTsProfile(String projectDir) {
              System.out.println("Start Here");
              System.out.println(projectDir);
              JInternalFrame[] frames = FrameManager.getJDesktopTS().getAllFrames();
              System.out.println(frames.length);
    // Iterate through each frame that is open and get the names
              // Only get the names of the frames that are saved
              for (int noOfFrames = 0; noOfFrames < frames.length; noOfFrames++) {
                   String tsName = "";
                   boolean unsaved = true;
                   //Check to make sure the frames are TS frames
                   if (frames[noOfFrames] instanceof TSFrame) {
                        JInternalFrame tsFrames = frames[noOfFrames];
                        if(tsFrames.getTitle().contains(":-")){
                             tsName = tsFrames.getTitle();
                             tsName = tsName.substring(17);
                             unsaved = getSavedTSNames(tsFrames);
                        else if(tsFrames.getTitle().contains("-")){
                             tsName = tsFrames.getTitle();
                             tsName = tsName.substring(16);
                             unsaved = getSavedTSNames(tsFrames);
                        if(!unsaved){
                             System.out.println(tsName);
              System.out.println("point 2");
              FrameManager.getSelectedTSFrame().isMaximum();
              System.out.println(FrameManager.getSelectedTSFrame());
              System.out.println(FrameManager.getSelectedTSFrame().isMaximum());
         * Returns all the saved TS frame names. This method is Called
         * by the SaveCurrentTsProfile method
         * @param save boolean flgg indicating if GUI should save modified test sequences
         public boolean getSavedTSNames(JInternalFrame frame) {
                        boolean[] modified = ((TSFrame)frame).stateManager
                        .getPrereqState(Prerequisite.TS_MODIFIED);
                        return modified[0];
    }

    I have a GUI project which has frames consisting of data in table view. What i'm trying to do is save the layout of the frames into an xml file so that the user doesn't have to reconfigure layout every time they restart the application. The code which i have attached gets the names of each frame.
    I also have another class which is currently generating various other settings and writing it into the xml file. The xml file looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    - <PTMViewProfile>
    - <viewProfile>
    <testSequences />
    - <tsName>
    <tsName tag="arefa" />
    </tsName>
    <tsStatus />
    - <columns>
    - <tcc>
    <column tag="usim" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="dev" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="tp" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="iwd" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="tdma" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="selref" visible="true" width="75" index="2" />
    <column tag="md" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="timer" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="description" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="name" visible="true" width="120" index="0" />
    <column tag="domain" visible="true" width="75" index="5" />
    <column tag="note" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="hsdpa" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="wi" visible="true" width="75" index="4" />
    <column tag="ttcn" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="approval" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="inter" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="duration" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="etsi" visible="true" width="75" index="1" />
    <column tag="hsupa" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="auto" visible="true" width="75" index="3" />
    <column tag="cipher" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="suite" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="shield" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    <column tag="hop" visible="false" width="75" index="-1" />
    </tcc>
    In the - <tsName> i want to print out all the names of the frames.
    This is the method thats creating the tags in the xml file. This method is stored in a different class;
    public Element writeViewProfile(String name) {
              Message.logInfo("Saving View Profile XML Document:" + name);
              Element root = XMLManager.createNamedElement("PTMViewProfile");
              Element viewProfile = XMLManager.createNamedChildElement(root, xmlViewTag);
              Element tsNameTag = XMLManager.createNamedChildElement(viewProfile, xmlTSFrameTag);
              Element tsFrameName = XMLManager.createNamedChildElement(viewProfile, xmlFrameTag);
              writeTsFrame(tsFrameName, "Arefa");
              Element tsFrameStatus = XMLManager.createNamedChildElement(viewProfile, xmlFrameStatusTag);
              Element columns = XMLManager.createNamedChildElement(viewProfile, xmlColumnsTag);
              writeColumnSet(columns, xmlTCCColumnTag);
              writeColumnSet(columns, xmlTSColumnTag);
              writeColumnSet(columns, xmlResTCCColumnTag);
              writeColumnSet(columns, xmlResTSColumnTag);
              Element sashes = XMLManager.createNamedChildElement(viewProfile, xmlSashesTag);
              for (int i = 0; i < sashList.size(); i++) {
                   writeSash(sashes, sashList.get(i));
              return root;
         };This is the method thats writing the xml file;
    private void saveProfile(String name) {
              if (!readyToSave)
                   return;
              ViewProfile viewProfile = viewProfiles.get(currentViewProfileName);
              if (viewProfile != null) {
                   // try {
                   Element root = viewProfile.writeViewProfile("ptmProfile");
                   // create an xml document with our data
                   Document doc = new Document(root);
                   // dump the document to file
                   XMLManager.dumpXMLDocToFile(doc, "ptmProfile", FileManager.baseDir());
                   // catch (Exception ignore) {
                   // System.out.println(ignore.getMessage() + ignore.getStackTrace());
         }In the xml file how can i print the names of the frames into that <tsName> tag using the SaveCurrentTsProfile() method .
    I hope this helps you understand whats hapenning.
    Thanks!

  • Hd video export to wmv best settings

    What export settings are best for my 5 minute hdv footage to render to the nicest, sharpest wmv file?  Size is not a consideration.  I'd like to preserve the beautiful hd quality of the footage and I want sharp titles and text.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

    Thanks for the advice.  I'd like to clarify.  My original video is hd 1440 x 1080 (hdv), 29.97fps, 4800 Hz stereo.  I am unsure of the preset that matches.  Is it one of the HDTV settings?  Adobe lists our 24, 25 and 720 HQ.  I assume that the 24 refers to frame rate.
    Thanks so much,
    Lisa

  • Group Policy - User Rights Assignments not taking effect on workstation`

    Novell 5.1 SP7. ZenWorks 3.2 sp3. Windows XP Pro workstations.
    In Group Policy, (Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security
    Settings/Local Policies/User Rights Assignment), I have added Power Users to
    the "Load and Unload device drivers" policy. However this setting is not
    taking effect on my Windows XP workstations. My DLU policy for users is
    configured to have the users members of the "Users" and "Power Users" groups
    on the local PC.
    Other parts of Group Policy (Computer Policy/Administrative Templates) are
    taking effect on the workstation, so I'm wondering if the problem I am
    having is related to Security Settings only.

  • Programatically delete a DAQ device

    I have created a system with hardware (a USB DAQ) and software that is to be installed on multiple computers overseas. I want to make the set-up as easy as possible because I don't think the people doing the setup will be very well trained, and I won't be there to fix any problems.  I have created an installer that includes all the hardware as well as software setup, but there is one issue left, and I'm not sure what the best way to solve it.  If the installer is run before the DAQ is connected, then the installer creates a virtual device. If the DAQ is then connected, it is named Dev1, which doesn't work with any of my tasks, of course. I have some code that runs, and verifies the hardware set-up each time the system is started, so I can see if the device with the proper name is virtual, and if so, I can rename the actual and virtual DAQ device to the right names, so my tasks operate properly. However, I now have a virtual device hanging out on my system doing nothing, which I would like to avoid, because there is an outside chance that I will end up on the phone trying to explain to people how to straighten out a system when it goes bad, and I want to keep it as simple as possible.  I have two questions:
    Is there some way to delete the virtual device programatically?
    Is there some better approach to accomplish what I am trying to do? I thought about not allowing the installer to proceed if there is no DAQ device plugged in, but I don't know if that is possible.

    Jeff·Þ·Bohrer wrote:
    Hmmmm...... There has got to be a way to script up the "Toss Tasks to MAX" and "include .nce" as part of a "Deploy" process. Wirebird, Jack?  any opinions on that?
    I would tend to agree with John_P1's quote below:
    John_P1 wrote:
    I honestly just build up my tasks programmatically.... You can do just about anything that you could do in MAX programmatically via the System Configuration API.
     And I would tend to shy away from:
    Jo-Jo wrote:
    ...I just find [that using MAX] really speed development, and help with maintanence because you can test out all of your tasks in MAX outside of any LabVIEW code. And debug and toubleshoot hardware without using any of your own software, so you know any problems are not software bugs.
     once going into production. MAX tends to be a good tool for getting your feet wet after unboxing the hardware, but something you gradually migrate away from after the prototyping phase -- yet occasionally return to, as you mention, if you need to back up to square one for new prototyping or as a sanity check.
    It's possible to deploy NCE hardware behavior configurations, but not necessarily desirable. For the same reason it's possible to deploy any arbitrary configuration (INI, XML, ....), yet it's likely more desirable to build this configuration programmatically -- perhaps persisting it to disk if it's a user-modify-able configuration, or if it's desirable to persist user settings between subsequent deployments -- else it might be most desirable to keep the "configuration" hard-coded as essential business logic (as DAQ tasks might tend to be).
    Though, it sounds like you have a solution, and that's far more valuable than more work! Keep a tally on whether the current deployment strategy keeps you and your end users happy, and if so, keep it! Else, consider John_P1's advice, which is more likely to scale with your application if things get hairy.

  • What is the difference between Aspect Ratios?

    Hello. I couldn't find any specific documentation regarding this.
    I am working on an iPhoto 09 slideshow project using the scrapbook theme. I am planning to export the slideshow as a movie (it looks like the default export is mpeg 4 but I could also export as a quicktime .mov) and then move to iDVD to burn on a DVD. Ultimately, I need to show it on a projector using a DVD player. I'm not sure what the projector's resolution is but I assume 16:9 will be the best aspect ratio for the highest quality.
    In the slideshow settings, there are 4 different aspect ratios:
    1) This Screen (16:9)
    2) HDTV (16:9)
    3) TV (4:3)
    4) iPhone (3:2)
    What is the difference between This Screen (1) and HDTV (1)? Does it matter? Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Terence Devlin wrote:
    Aspect ratio is the ratio of the width to the height of the image - in other words it's about shape. So both the 'This Screen' and the 'HDTV' settings will be the same Aspect Ratio.
    The Aspect Ratio has no bearing on the quality, only the shape of the final images.
    TD is absolutely correct here. The aspect ratio is only the shape of the image, not the quality. Basically, you need to decide if you are designing the show for viewing on a HD tv (16:9 or widescreen) or a SD tv (4:3 or squarish). A couple of years ago this choice was easy since most tv's out there were still 4:3, but today, the opposite is true. The popular choice now would be 16:9.
    The biggest problem you will have with the quality of your slideshow is the
    fact that you're burning it to DVD.
    Your slideshow will be heavily compressed to fit the DVD spec of 640 x 480
    pixels and this can lead to soft images or even blurry ones.
    I think we're getting "compression" and "resolution" confused here a bit, or at the very least, we're using the wrong terminology.
    For everyone's benefit, let me try to explain...
    If you show an image that is native 640x480 on a screen that is native 640x480 (standard def tv screen), the image will look just fine. This is resolution and will not effect quality as long as you don't try to view at a higher resolution than the image actually is.
    (If you try to view a 640x480 slide show in full screen mode on your computer monitor which is running at 1280x1024, the image will look horrible.)
    Trying to view a higher rez image (ie: 3200x2400) on a lower resolution (ie 640x480 or SD tv) screen will reap NO benefit in quality. Remember that a SD TV will only show 640x480 (or 720x480) and no higher, so there is no benefit in trying to cram more pixels into an image than the screen can actually show.
    Of course this all changes if you're going to view it on today's HiDef tvs, but even on them, the resolution tops at at 1920x1080. Once again, using a very high def image (ie: 3840x2160) will reap NO benefit since the resolution of the screen it's being viewed on tops out at 1920x1080. The aspect ratio on this type of tv is now 16:9 so the images shape will be wider than a normal tv (4:3).
    Compression is the scheme used to compress an image to reduce it's file size, thus reducing it's quality. JPEG is a common form of image compression, and the amount of compression can be adjusted..the more compression, the more degradation of quality. This has nothing to do with resolution.
    Depending on how you're going to process (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD), the program will reduce the resolution of the original image to the resolution of you output. In other words, don't worry about doing any kind of resolution change prior to creating the dvd, as the program you choose to use will simply lower the resolution (this is not compression) to fit the output you choose.

  • R6970 Lightning Crossfire looks great on DVI but it's whacked on HDMI...

    I have an Asus Maximus Exteme IV MB with 2 6970's in Crossfire. I have two monitors. One is an older SyncMaster 910MP with a standard VGA input and a newer SymcMaster P2770HD. I have an HDMI going from card 1 to the P2770HD and a DVI cable with a VGA adapter going to the other.
    The problem is that my picture on the older monitor is fantastic but the picture on the newer monitor is fuzzy and sort of looks over saturated by color. Text is not clear. Comparing the same video on each monitor shows blotching and uneven color tones while the older monitor is perfect.
    The older monitor is at 1280 x 1024 32 bit 60Hz
    The new monitor is on (under the HDTV settings) 1080p
    There are "basic" settings for the new monitor, but the highest it goes is 1680 x 1050. The new monitor was running at 1980 x 1080 on my last system which featured a 5770 and ran off the DVI port and it too looked great.
    Am I missing a setting for my monitor to run at 1980 x 1080? How do I add it in? Why isn't the "HDTV" 1080p looking great coming out of the 6970 Lightning?
    EDIT: I tried to use both DVI ports (on the same card) and only the primary monitor is recognized. What are the limitaions are requisites for connecting monitors to CrossFired cards?

    I found a fix and it's the weirdest fix becasue I was just fiddling with my monitor and going into every single sub-menu and changing settings to see what effect they may have on my monitor.
    On my Samsung HD monitor, I go into the "Source List" menu and I choose "Edit"
    The naming convention on that menu is :
    PC                : ----
    DVI               : ----
    AV                : ----
    Component    : ----
    HDMI            : ----
    These coincide with all the different inputs available on the Samsung P2770HD.
    I went to the HDMI    : ---- selection and I was given a whole array of other choices; Camcorder,TV, IPTV, HD DVD, Blu-Ray, DVI, DVI PC, PC and a few others.
    I changed it to PC and Viola! Perfect picture!
    Now, my input reads "HDMI    PC"; where as before it read only "HDMI" with no dashes. You only see the dashes if you go into the "Edit" menu for the Source list.
    Thanks for the very funky menu Samsung! Not to mention the manual for the monitor that says nothing about this!
    I think what this does is tells the monitor to expect the standard RGB (0-255) colors from the PC.
    Anyways, this worked for me. I hope this may be of some use to another person in the near future.
