Persistent Unread Email Icon

I have an unread email icon on my Blackberry 8100 that will not go away.  I have tried marking all messages in my inbox as unread and then again as read, but the icon still indicates that I have 1 unread email.  Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?
Thanks!

  • Unread email icon

    Hi All,
I'm running OS X 10.8.4. Getting work emails from MS Exchange.  My Mac Mail shows one unread email in my junk folder, but there is nothing in that folder.  My iPhone 5 shows no unread emails and when I login to MS Exchange it shows no unread emails.  it's just the desktop.  I have sorted by unread hoping to find it - nothing.  I have tried to create a Smart Mailbox sorted by unread - no unread emails appeared.  I've fiddled with the Preferences | General | Dock unread count - no help either.
I even deleted the entire account; closed down mail; then added the account back - still shows one unread email in my empty junk mail folder!  I can get and send emails, so this isn't major problem; but it is annoying.  Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Best,
    Ralph

I tried rebuilding every mailbox - icon still shows one unread email in junk folder.  Thanks again for help.

  • Unread Emails Icon

    Hi All
My Blackberry displays I have 3 unread emails on the front screen.  However, I've deleted all the emails on the phone and on my email account and it still displays it.
Can someone describe how I update the phone so its updates?
Thanks in advance to all who reply.
    Regards, Hardip

Thank you...that makes more sense now (fyi -- "updating" is the terminology we use for updating the core device OS...different situation)...
The Messages app on a BB collects more than mere email messages...it collects messages from many conduits. What you need to do is to find the conduit that contains a new message. Go to Messages and then BBKey > View Folders...search through all of them to find the unread messages. You can also attempt the search capability and have it look everywhere for unread messages (sorry, I can't recall the specific commands for that).
Good luck and let us know!

  • Unread Message Icon

Verizon BB Curve. Shipped with 4.3 OS.
I have had this unit for about 6 months. Was working great. Yesterday I upgraded to 4.5 and now I have a persistent unread message icon claiming 2 unread messages. I have deleted all messages in both my push mail inboxes, deleted the missed call log, deleted all SMS messages, checked EVERY folder in this unit, removed the battery for about 15 minutes. No matter what I do it shows this icon and claims 2 unread messages. Anyone out there know what the deal is with this? “Feature” of 4.5?

If you have a rogue New Message icon on your Homescreen, or a negative count (-1), any one of these solutions could clear it, or reset it to zero:
    Try these options:
        * Hard Reset the BlackBerry by holding ALT, CAP (right Shift key), and DEL (or pulling out and reinserting the battery)
        * View Messages > Saved Messages
        * View Messages > View Folders, check each folder (missed calls, SMS in and out boxes, MMS in and out boxes, Saved, browser, phone logs etc)
        * Scroll to top of message folder, over the date heading, click or press menu to MARK PRIOR OPEN
        * Change your theme and see if it persists, and change back to your desired theme. (Options > Theme > select.)
        * Wipe and reload your OS.

  • Why is my mail icon not showing unread email messages?

For some reason, my mail icon is no longer showing my badge icon displaying the number of unread emails I have.  Within mail, next to my mailbox, it no longer shows the number of unread emails either even though there are clearly email messages with the blue dot indicating they're unread.  Does anyone know how I can fix this?
    Thanks

Open Mail, go to top and under Mail select Preferences. Click on general and make sure where it says 'Dock Unread Count, you have it set to Inbox Only or All Mailboxes, whichever you want and that it isn't set to none. If it is already set then try cetting it to none, close mail, restart, open Mail and go and change it again from none to what you want.
    Good Luck

  • Mail icon not updating to reflect number of unread email in sub-folders

    Hi all,
I have a problem with the default mail program on the iPhone, OS3.0.
If you have sub-folders on an exchange server and set for them to be pushed under the "Mail folders to push" setting, email appears on the phone and it even give you your chosen email alert sound. However the number of unread emails is not reflected on the icon of the mail program.
Is there a fix for this?
    Cheers

As neuroanatonist wrote, I think this is linked to Apple Mail (whether iPhone or desktop) focusing only on the inbox(es) for tallying up the number of unread mail, and notifying the user accordingly.
There is an open thread dealing with the root cause of the issue brks raised:

  • I have an iPhone 4 using iOS 7.1.2. On my home screen at the email icon it shows I have over 11,000 unread emails. I have no emails and am not receiving any. Ipad shows I am receiving emails ok. Om my phone deleted folder is empty as well as Sent.

I have an iPhone 4 using iOS 7.1.2. On my home screen at the email icon in red it shows I have 11,193 emails to be read.  I have no mail in Inbox, Drafts, Sent, or Trash. Where did this come from and how do I get rid of it. The number is printed in read on top of the blue and white emaiI icon. I contacted my cable company and through their website I can check my email. In doing this it showed I had 25 unread emails. Also, my iPad 2 is receiving emails fine.  So the problem is with the iPhone 4. What can I do to get rid of the number and make my mail operational?

    Hello Kizzyk,
I would start with taking a look at the settings to make sure that you are able to send and receive messages. If everything looks good then the next step would be to remove the accounts and add them back in. Take a look at the article below for more information and details on how to troubleshoot your issue further.

  • I have an iPhone4. I am unable to open my Mail icon - the screen comes up blank even though the icon shows 182 unread emails waiting. I uninstalled my email accounts and re-installed them - no change in the problem. Other apps work.

  • Mail Icon Unread email Count

I just got the iphone 4s.  (i had the 3gs and had to go to droid due to family plan on sprint.)  Anyhow i am back on iphone and i was hoping someone can remind me how to remove the unread email number count on the Mail icon.  I believe there was a setting etc which allowed me to remove this.  You input is appreciated.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • How can I stop the number of unread emails showing on the icon for my main account including the number of emails in my gmail account as well?

How can I stop the number of unread emails, displayed on the icon for my main account, including the number of unread emails in my gmail account as well? The number is accurate (unlike the many users who seem to have phantom unread emails) it's just that I want each acc to show its own total, as it did before.  I suspect I fiddled with some setting unwittingly.  It seems to do it first thing each morning, particularly.  Many thanks

If you go to Settings>Notification Centre>Mail each of your email accounts will appear here separately. You can then change if Badges are displaye on the Mail App - which will show you the number of emails - or not.

    Steve

  • Mail icon shows 3 unread emails but I've read them all

Can not seem to get rid of 3 unopened emails on mail icon. I checked all accounts and mailboxes?

you could create a smart mailbox to filter unread emails, go to mail menu, mailbox>create smart mailbox, and choose the unread email rule. then look in the smart mailbox to see which emails show up.
you can also select the option you would like for dock unread count, go to mail>preferences>general.
    hope this helps

Understood, the difference with iTunes being that Apple doesn't (currently) require you to enter any account info on the device until you try to purchase something from their store. Initial setup is just a connection to the iTunes software and you're good to go.
While I understand that RIM wishes the account to be defined, they also need to be aware that doing so during the initial setup without proving an option to do it later, while failing to provide any means to change it afterwards (short of a device wipe) doesn't always suit the the situation. Hopefully they'll be reviewing the forums to gather feedback that they can incorporate into future software updates.
