Persistent WiFi Issues

Apple! In the name of all that is HOLY, please fix wifi in Lion. There have been persistent wifi issues since the last Leopard OS update.

One last detail, connectivity through my iPhone's hotspot works completely fine. No idea if that is related / helpful in any way.

  • Persistent WiFi Problems

I have read the support forum posts and followed the Apple guides for resolving the persistent WiFi issues. After two weeks of trying to resolve this problem I'm listing my use case in the hopes that it is fixed.
A majority of the time I use my iPad on the UW-Whitewater campus. I work for ResNET and am live-in staff. Most of my day is spent somewhere with WiFi access. Each building has WPA access that uses a campus username login and password. I can be standing right next to one of our APs and have no connection. If I reset my iPad and enter the credentials manually it only works temporarily. Error messages will pop up stating that there is no connection using Safari. The NPR app will stream audio, but the stream will freeze as it looks for a connection. Watching a full movie on Netflix? Out of the question.
When I am in my apartment I have a wireless router that uses WEP. The same issues I stated above are applicable here. I have restarted the router, updated the firmware, left access open, assigned a static IP.
Sharing the wireless connection from my iMac? Nope. Access is still inconsistent.
Just to reiterate: I have tried turning WiFi on/off, resetting my iPad, and restoring it from scratch. Using it has been an exercise in frustration when it does not work.
    Thanks,
    Ken

If you are having so many problems you might have a defective iPad. Rather than waiting for a S/W fix from Apple you could ask for a replacement iPad. At least if you went to an Apple store you could check your iPad against their WiFi network. Have you spoken to the Apple support group about this?

  • IOS8.1 WiFi issues persist

Does anyone see WiFi issues like slowness, poor signal strength even while you are near the router? I see these issues with iPhone 5s iOS8.1 update. The problem has been since iOS8 but had never seen this in iOS7.1.2. Looks like some serious issue here.
Sometimes WiFi works in office but at home it just doesn't work. On the home network i have my laptop and other iphone 4s which work perfectly fine though. So looks like a iOS 8.x issue for iPhone 5s.
Apple why dont you fix is right when you say "resolves WiFi performance issues on iphones with some base stations". Do a RCA please and fix this as my phone is unusable at home network.

I think I am going to sell all Pads and iPhones to move to android. This is ridiculous. Wifi is still the same issue slow, Safari still freezing sometimes. the problems still have not gotten fixed. Wasting so much time and money to spend on these Apple products and don't get the service the way is supposed to be. 3 dam failure continuous updates creating more bugs and glitches, wifi issue getting worse. I feel like apple stealing people money and run away by providing an awful service. If the iOS 8 is not ready don't release, don't just release and destroy people money and time. We spent thousand of $ for your product lol. Don't except anymore update from Apple lol

  • Iphone 6 with iOS 8.1.1 and still wifi issues

I have Cox internet service with Netgear 2.4 router at home.  Have been having issues with my 2 iphone 6 wifi staying connected, even after two updates.  Very disappointed that with 8.1.1 the problem was not fixed.  Wifi stays on for a few seconds to a minute, then drops off.  Sometimes it re-connects.  Sometimes I'd have to enter my wifi password several times.  I have two iphone 5 and ipad air and macbook air also, and none of them have had wifi problem in the past.
tried everything recommended here and elsewhere (resetting, turning off bluetooth, turning off wifi-networking in privacy/location services, re-boots).  Nothing works.  Was really hoping 8.1.1 would fix it, but it did not.
Interestingly, wifi seems to stay better connected when I'm at work (still drops occasionally, but reconnects fairly quickly).
Any suggestion would be appreciated.  This is the worst, persisting wifi problem I've had in the last 10 plus years using Apple products, and the problem does not seem to be getting solved anytime soon!!

OOPS! Too quick on the trigger to ask that question without trying anything. Sorry. Solved it by touching the bookmark icon.

  • Apple says small number of Apple TVs have WiFi issues, opens replacement program

I have an AppleTV 3rd generation with issues of connectivity when I use the Radio. Every 10 or 15 minutes disconnects from showing an error on the screen, I research on the internet and apparently there is a program to replace some devices due a known malfuncion with the WiFi.
I always blamed to my cheap router and the poor internet connection I had in my former country Argentina. Now i moved to Chile and i have a nice Cisco/Linksys router and the issue persists.
Please check the links below about the replacement program:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2034731/report-apple-replacing-some-third-gen-ap ple-tv-units-with-wi-fi-issues.html
    http://9to5mac.com/2013/04/15/apple-says-small-number-of-apple-tvs-have-wifi-iss ues-opens-replacement-program/
I would like to know if this program exists and also if my device is under this program.
The serial number of my AppleTV is C0*****RHN.
    <Edited by host>

That program was from over a year ago, it is no longer running. It still required proper troubleshooting to occur. It wouldn't have to do with an internet connection as this an issue with the local/wifi network, a cheap router will impact performance but there are other factors.
Using ethernet will help to see if there's a wifi issue. Get a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar, look for signal strength and noise.
If your network looks ok then I would take to Apple for testing, if it is found to be defective then they are usually good about replacement.

  • WiFi Issue with S850

I am facing WiFi issues with my S850 phone. It does connect to wifi network but browsing does not work. It is same for all the wifi networks. I am not able to browse internet or any other work which req net connectivity,

can you try do a factory restore then just use the phone without changing anything in settings. I am not sure if this is caused by settings or a hardware issue.
If after doing a factory reset and problem persist then bring it to the service center.

  • What Apps cause Persistent Wifi on Touch with 4.1?

I have been reading a lot of posts that certain apps cause persistent wifi with the 4.1. (When the Touch wakes up, the wifi is already connected.) This is the case with my touch. Which apps are causing the problem??? I have a boatload of apps and it would take forever to limit it one by one to find the offenders.
I have the game center off. This issue is related to the terrible battery life I have now and the need to turn off all the notifictaion and push features that I can no longer use.

I would start with just a few apps and see what happens. Then add a few more at a time.

  • Does ios 6.1.3 wifi issues get solved in next update?

Has anyone solved their wifi issues after new update of ios ? Coz i am having wifi issues since i updated my iphone 4s to 6.1.2 . I dont think it is a hardware failure... I have tried resetting my iphone as new device. I have checked my router settings which is a netgear make.
Please help if new software updates help solve this problem? I have updated this from 6.1.2 to 6.1.3 but unfortunately  the problem persisted after updating my device to latest ios running. I guess many are having same issues. GUYS WE MUST DO SOMETHING SO THAT APPLE LISTENS US ATLEAST.

I'm having the same issue since 6.1.2. I worked throught the various checklists and nothing has worked. What I have noticed is most of the 'fixes' require me to do someithing with my home router. I don't understand that as I use my phone as a hotspot or internet connection while I'm away from home and on 3G. That part doesn't make sense.
When the phone is connected it is recognized in iTunes but not in the System Preferences Network Settings page.
I used to connect my phone to my Mac via USB and opt to use the USB Only option for HotSpot with the Mac WIFI off. The blue bar on the phone comes on indicating that HotSpot is working. It has worked for me like that until 6.1.2. Since then the USB Only option does not work and I have to use WIFI on both the phone and the Mac. If I'm lucky, I get a connection and can get my mail and do some surfing before it drops the connection. The blue bar that comes up on the phone is there indicating the hotspot is on, but the connection is lost. A dozen or so resets, of either my Mac or my phone, later and I might get a connection again. That's no way to do business.
All I did was update the phone when it told me there was an update available. Did I miss something?

  • Anyone having wifi issues on the 3gs after updating to 6.1.3?

Recently got rid of an iphone 4 that was having wifi issues after updating to 6.1.3 but wanted to know if any 3gs users are having issues with wif after installing the same update? Currently on 4.3.3

You can try resetting your iPhone by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

  • IOS wifi issues...

Overnight my iOS devices (iPad 1, mini, iPhones 5 and 4) are struggling with my wifi network (BT HomeHub 3 with various extenders around the home).
It will show as connected but then not allow an internet connection. (e.g. on Twitter it won't download anymore tweets). Whilst in safari, trying to access a website a box appears asking for a username and password (almost as if you are logging in to a private network) even for sites where no such exists or I have been asked for one before.
This is very perplexing. It does not seem to be the router, even by turning Homehub off and on again, it still persists. Yet, it doesn't happen all the time, sometimes I can access apps, safari at the same point in the house fine, then next minute it won't work.
There seems to be no trigger to this... I've not updated my devices with new iOS and as far as I'm aware there has been no BT update...
    Any advice welcome.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Z10 STL100-3 WiFi issue

    Hi,
I have a STL100-3 on Bell Mobility in Canada and am going to be sending the phone out for a warranty repair tomorrow unless anybody can help me out with a WiFi issue I've been having since updating to 10.1 last month.
When I disconnect from a WiFi network and don't immediately connect to another network, then the WiFi on the phone will be completely disabled until I do a restart of the phone. The WiFi will still show as being on but a network scan will show that there are no WiFi networks in range. I know this is wrong since my other devices can connect to my network and there are several other networks in range.
I have already done a security wipe and reloaded the OS through my computer and the problem persists. From what I can tell from searching online, I seem to be the only one that has been having this issue.
I called my carrier for tech support and they are saying that my phone will need to be sent out for warranty repair, but I 'd like to avoid that if possible. Has anybody else experienced this issue and if so, what have you done to resolve it?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall chargerLeave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display doesRemove the batteryWait 15 minutesInsert the batteryWait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display doesThis has been known to "kick start" some BBs. If it fails, please try again but increase the wait time in step 4 to 2 hours, and perhaps as long as 4-5 hours.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happensObtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happensThe results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Possible solution to ipad 3 wifi issue

This has worked for me, so hopefully it will help some of the other ipad 3 users who are experiencing wifi issues.
I have an Ipad 3 32G wifi only model. It was shipped to me on 3/16. I had wifi problems similar to many posters here. Namely, the wifi disconnects and reconnects once every few minutes. It is independent of the range between my ipad and my router (i.e. it happens when the ipad is within 1 foot of the router or 100 feet).
I tried the whole reset wireless network process and that did not work...
What did work was an update to my router's firmware. I have a netgear n600 rounter and updating the firmware immediately solved the disconnect problem. I also borrowed my dad's ipad 2 and tested the wifi signal strength between his ipad 2 and my ipad 3 as a function of distance. The two devices signals were comparable at various distances from the router.
of course, in places with public wireless, it is doubtful that these routers' firmware are diligently updated, so wifi problems will likely persist in public areas. But at least you can solve the problem in your home where you have control over your router :-)
    hope this help.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

I'm using a mid 2014 13" rmbp. I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.

  • WiFi issues with iPhone 4S & ios 6 update

    Okay here is my issue...
I've been reading alot of issues that people have with connecting to WiFi with their new iPhone 5, iPhone 4S or other devices but I have no trouble connecting to WiFi at all. My problem is that WiFi wont 'work'. The WiFi I'm hooked up to at home doesn't let me do basically anything that requires internet.
I can get on the Facebook app fine and my newsfeed loads but I can't see Facebook notifications, upload photos or videos, read inboxes, look at photos, its very slow etc.
I can't get into the App Store or iTunes at all. It says it 'Cannot Connect to iTunes Store' when I try.
I can't upload photos onto Instagram
Currently I'm into the Simpsons Tapped Out game and I can't go onto it at all.
And there are a few other minor issues I am having.
All these things I can do with my Telstra 3G network however and it ***** because I want to use and do all these things but I have to use my 3G and I've just recently gone over my data monthly usage and been charged extra which I'm not happy about.
So is anyone else having these issues or is it just me and I'm stuffed? I'd REALLY love some help.
I've been lost with what to do because as some are having WiFi issues as well, mine isnt the same and it's hard to find answers or just other discussions.
    Please Help!
    Thankyou.

I am having the same issue since updating to iOS 6.  It has been noticeable on my iPhone 4S and a little less noticeable on my iPad 3 but I think it is happening on the iPad too.  Very annoying problem.  One way to get it to work better is to re-boot your phone.  It will work for awhile then and then eventually not be working anymore and you will need to re-boot again.
Just to be clear with everyone - the iPhone looks like it is connected to the wireless, it gets an IP address but can't transmit any data.  Device:  iPhone 4S, OS:  iOS6
