Personal Address Book in clients other than Outlook ( e.g. Thunderbird )

Does anybody know what the latest is on PAB integration in Thunderbird. This is a big turn-off for using JES. I am looking at the JCS for two reasons 1.) as an alternative to Ms proprietary lock-in and 2.) for an more open platform to integrate a some of our own software. It's quite frustrating that Sun are supporting Outlook almost exclusively. Convergence is great, but not a replacement for a thick email client. I really like Thunderbird but I can't access personal address books.
Any links for how to add a shared address book in Thunderbird? I'm sure I managed to sync at least the corporate address book when I reviewed JCS 5, but i can't remember and can't find a how to.
I have even considered writing a Thunderbird addon myself to access Address Books using ldap but it seems the PAB entries are locked by Directory Manager access and not available to the PAB user. Is there anywhere else to locate the PAB entries other than at "dn=piPStoreOwner=euan,o=potensol.com,o=PiServerDb" ?

A major limitation to any development of LDAP PAB integration is the lack of LDAP write support in Thunderbird. Any future movement will be more towards CardDAV as per:

It's quite frustrating that Sun are supporting Outlook almost exclusively.Sun is expending a large amount of resources (staff) into the Lightning project which is providing calendar functionality into Thunderbird. That is why there has been so much progress on this front over the past 12 - 18 months. Sun has also rolled Lightning out internally giving it even higher visibility.

I'm sure this group would appreciate any feedback, testing etc. that you could provide.

I'm sure I managed to sync at least the corporate address book when I reviewed JCS 5, but i can't remember and can't find a how to.Accessing the read-only corporate address-book should be relatively straight-forward. A quick google shows up a number of examples e.g.

Is there anywhere else to locate the PAB entries other than at "dn=piPStoreOwner=euan,o=potensol.com,o=PiServerDb" ?The other way would be to access the data using the WAPB protocol to the Convergence/UWC installation which is what Outlook Connector uses to access the address-book information. Unfortunately this protocol isn't yet publicly available. Feel free to push this with your Sun Account Manager.Regards,
Shane.Thank's Shane, your responses are always thorough and very helpful. Thanks for the link for LDAP shared address books in Thunderbird, I think that was the very article I used last time, should have bookmarked it.
I think it was harsh to say "It's quite frustrating that Sun are supporting Outlook almost exclusively.", I didn't realise they had involvement on the lightning project. Since my orignal post I have managed to install the plugin (v 0.8) and connect to my calendars. For feedback, so far it looks awesome, I was so impressed to see my tasks I added in convergence, in Thunderbird. I do recommend a 'how to' guide on Sun's website explaining exactly how to connect to it (couldn't find one myself from google). The 'how to' on mozilla's site forgets to mention that port must be specified (if it's not port 80, I use single-host deployment). Yet to try the experimental caching feature, will give feedback on that another time.
Will check out CardDAV shortly, thanks for link.
Overall, I am really happy with the JCS. If PAB and shared address book read/write/cache are implemented in Thunderbird/Evolution/Outlook then it would be the perfect comms suite. Servers seems to run really well although I have not put any real load on them yet. :-)

  • V card for address book? anything underway? need to attach contact info from address book to email, other than my own data.

Outlook had this nice feature allowing v card attachment for any contact in the address book to be attached to outgoing email. Will Thunderbird ever have something equivalent? Currently using Select Address book Text add on but still not V Card attach simplicity.

There is an addon which can help.

Download file to desktop or downloads file.
    In Thunderbird
    Tools > Addons
    or
    Menu icon > addons
click on gear wheel icon and select 'Install addon from file'
locate the file you downloaded and click on Open
You will need to restart Thunderbird at prompt.
    In 'Address Book'
right click on contact in list and select 'Send as vcard'.
If you want to add more than one vcard:
Press Ctrl key and select contacts to highlight, then right click on highlighted contacts and select Send as vcard'.
This opens a new Write message with that contact(s) added as vcard attachment(s).
There is also the option from the 'Contacts Sidebar' in a new Write window, but I'm not having any success from this method at this moment...maybe it will work for others...perhaps due to a bug, but I've reported it the author. At least it still works via Address Book.

  • I want to make a new "Address Book" in Thunderdird's Address Book in addition to "Personal Address Book" and "Collected Addresses"

Is there a way in Thunderbird's Address Book to create additional collections of addresses, say "Professional Colleagues", in the same pane as "Collected Addresses" and "Personal Address Book". In other words, these latter two collections of addresses appear to be the default. Can I add additional collections?

    Open address book window
From the menu bar select File-New-Address Book
No menu bar? Press the alt key.

  • Outlook Personal Address book is locked when desktop redirecter is running

    Hi,
I setup the desktop redirector for one of our BB users in the office. When the redirector is running at her desktop, she will get a warning from Outlook (when launching) saying that the personal address book is being used and it will not be available in OL. I am just wondering if this is a normal behavior? Is there any work around for this problem. What I do right now is to have the user close her redirector when she use OL in the office. But the problem is that she might forget to turn it back on when she finishs using OL and she will not be receving any email on her BB afterward.

  • Personal Address Book Empty

We are running GW 7.0.3. BES 4.1.6.23 I don't remember the mr number. The BES is running the GW 6.5.7 client. I have one user out of 40 that is experiencing this. The personal address book that the Blackberry (BB) is supposed to sync to is empty, however, all of the contact entries are on the BB. We tried to track this down the other day and while we were looking at her GW client the entries popped back in. Now they are gone again. We have not done anything that would cause the entries to pop back into the address book. We did notice that her BB had just synced in the last minute.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Filter on the BB is based on catagory, so I would suspect that it wasn't done on the device; now if the user could have don it on the GW client but I wouldn't expect that to effect the sync to BES? That's a odd one, I may have to try that myself and see if I duplicate it!
But no, if the filter was turned on in the GW address book, only the user could have done it or someone logged into GW as that user.

We found that the view filter in the GW client had been turned on so only groups would show. The problem is the user did not make this change. All of her addresses returned when she turned filtering off. Is there any way this could occur without manual intervention by the user? Thanks.

SOAP. Also we will be upgrading GW to 8.0.1 on 2/13/10. Are there issues with my system after the upgrade that I should be aware of? I will post back with test results. Thanks.
    >>> Michael Rae<[email protected]> 2/3/2010 1:16:PM >>>
Are you running your BES in SOAP mode or OAPI? Soap on 4.1 has major issues.
Regardless, what you might try is in the properties of the user in the PIM sync, turn off address book sync, wait and then enable it. Also once the entries are in on one place such as the BB, select the sync to be one way such as device to desktop only. Remeber too that contact sync is a low priority function, it may take up to 4 hours to see results from any changes made so don't get to rushed with making changes and then not see them take effect so you change them again with no results after a few minutes. Stopping and restarting the BB Sync server can speed this wait up.
Another thing to look for is the devices radio coverage, make sure you have as much coverage on the device as possible as I have seen some really weird contact sync issues when a BlackBerry drops in an out of data coverage.
FYI - Hang in there, you may well see BES 5 for GW by late summer or early fall of 2010, it's moving along very well and it's a major improvement.

  • HT1296 What calendars sync with an iphone-other than outlook

What calendars other than outlook and apple calendar sync with Iphone computer operating system is windows vista

None, but you can sync the iPhone with CalDAV calendars over the Internet.
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    You can sync calendars with:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Office 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7)
    iCal (Mac OS  X)
Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008
Note:  If using Microsoft Entourage, use Microsoft Entourage 2008 12.1.2 or later  if syncing with Mac OS X v10.6 or later. If you would like to sync data on your Mac with Entourage, enable syncing between Entourage and Address Book.
    Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
Note: If using Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac to sync calendars you must update to Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac Service Pack 1 or later.
For example, here's how you setup a Google calendar to your iPhone with CalDAV -> Sync your Apple device - Google Calendar Help

  • CCM6.0 - Personal Address Book as Customer Database

    Hi,
I have a client who was asking if he could utilize the "Personal Address Book" feature, a user can administer from the ccmuser page, as a database for all of his clients?
The idea is for when his employees need to look a up a particular contact/client all they need to do is press the Directories>Personal Address Book and do a search.
Could a csv file possibly be loaded to populate the fields? Just a thought?

    stephan.steiner,
Interesting...Is their any good documentation from cisco on making adjustments to the database on ccm 6.x?
    thanks.

  • HT1245 copy contact from all to personal address book

Whenever someone sends contact details to my iPhone, Contacts defaults the save to All Contacts, but won't add the contact to my personal address book.  How do i copy a contact from the All Contacts directory to my personal address book using the iPhone only?  Thus far it has been necessary to sync contacts through iTunes and then copy the vcf, but there must be an easier, more direct method … surely there must …
    Can someone help please?
    Many thanks

Ninety five percent of my customers are real estate agents. So have been hanging on to their 10-12 year old XPs. Ones with Outlook kept using it with the Win7 upgrades or new machines.
I did import one Outlook.pst file with lots of grouped addresses recently while it was still on the XP machine and didn't have this problem with it. Copying the TBird profile to Win8.1 was not a problem.
I suppose it is only characterized by OE and since OE is going away perhaps best to just forget the problem.

    Hi,
I'm using evolution + JESCS to acces JES2005Q4. Mail, and calendar works fine. I have configured LDAP acces to corporate Address Book but I have no acces to my personal addressbook.
The problem seems to be that Personal address Book stored in "pipstoreowner=_User_,o=_Domain_,o=piserverdb " hasent got the standar format for contacts on standar addressbook.
Is there any way to acces the personal address book using an standar LDAP Client?

Um, honestly, I have no idea how you might set up a "standard ldap client" to access the address book. nor how to get Evolution to do it.

I need to read entries from outlook personal address book. I am using form 6i. Form should read entries in personal address book and return values back to form.
I can open a new mail message window to access outlook address book but my requirement is to read the entries of the address book.

  • Address book will not sync with outlook

I have a bb curve 8530. My desktop PC runs windows 7 and Outlook. The address book will not sync with outlook. The calendar function, however, will sync with outlook. The error messages are:
"Runtime error: unable to locate application in system table. The product may not be installed properly; run the installer and choose repair."
    Or, "Intellisyncy error encountered 0x8004fff."
    or, "unable to complete synchronization."
I have pulled out the battery of the 8530 to try a hard reset. I have reloaded on my PC the latest software from the BB website. I have reset and configured synchronization settings multiple times in every possible order. I have deleted from my outlook contacts any large files. I do not know what the installer the error message refers to.
    Thanks, David

you cant reset your PIN, it is hardcoded into the BB
    where is your PIN missing?
when it syncs the calendar, does it look like it syncs but nothing actually happens, no errors?
or does it crash with an error?
on your BB go to options- advanced options- default services
make sure facebook is not set for CICAL

  • CUCM 8.6 Personal Address Book entry limitation?

    Hi Experts,
Can one of you tell me what is the limitation of Personal Address Book entries?
    Done a quick search
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2153123
according to this on 8.5 is 1000.
    - Is this still the case on 8.6,
    - is it per phone or this is the system limitation (per ?server?) ? if having two CUCMs, will this be 2x 1000 (if 1000 is still the case for 8.6)?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Tibor

The URL that is working for us is:
    http://10.2.5.234:8080/ccmpd/pdCheckLogin.do?name=#DEVICENAME#&service=pab
then use your own IP address for the Call Manager node.
Our Call Manager configuration is shown below.
To access the feature, we hit the Services Button, are prompted with a Personal Address Book option, select it, then are promoted for a UserID/PIN (shown further below), at which point I enter my LDAP ID and a PIN.  The PIN is created in Call Manager under User Management ==> End User ==> PIN.
    Good luck with your process.

  • How can I copy contact entries from the "Personal Address Book" to a subsidiary list without typing 500 individual entries?

There is about to be a death in the family. I need to establish a mailing list of all immediate family members, but it should not contain *EVERY* entry in either my Personal Address Book or my Collected Addresses. Is there something like a drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste facility to accomplish this task?

Check this article for more information on how to create a mailing list.
When sending a message to 500 recipients you may hit a limit imposed by your email provider.

  • Emailing form using something other than outlook

Is there anyway I get the form to use a different email system other than outlook when using the email button? We used to go through outlook and we could conveniently hit email and the form would attach and be ready to send. We switched email systems and now work in Zimbra. Is there an easy way to configure the email to use Zimbra instead? Thanks

The form will use the default mail client.

  • Personal Address Book Error !

    hi
i have added the ip phone service personal address book, subcribered the service for the phone, and i can see the service from the phone when i press the services button. But when i search the entry in the PAB ,it shows the message "Error:-7ffbc5c2:User(none)was unable to be validated(14910)",what's wrong with it?
    thanks

    Hi
It sounds like you've subscribed the service but haven't either defined the correct parameters, or set the parameters for the user you are subscribing.
As you create the service in CCMAdmin, you need to defined userid, pin and prefix parameters as defined in this document:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_tech_note09186a00800b2eba.shtml
Then each user has to either use ccmuser to set their password and userid when they subscribe, or you need to do it for them individually from ccmadmin.
