Personal Communicator v8 for Mac OS X?

Hello!
What is happening with Personal Communicator for Mac? I have a customer that wants it, but I see it's only for Windows unlike v7.x? What gives?
Ben

Hi Ben,
There will be a CUPC 8.x version for MAC for sure.
I think it will be release in early 2011

Quicken for Mac 2007 works just fine (and is said to be compatible with Mavericks).  It is often denounced for not being "modern", but when something works, and does everything I want, I need a good reason to switch.
A few years ago (2011), I got that reason when I upgraded OSX and Quicken stopped working due to the absence of Rosetta.  I switched to iBank.  I used it for more than a year.  It was cumbersome, they have no sense of a helpful user interface, but it "works".  I found ONE feature that I liked:  you can attach an image (or any file) to a register entry, so I can save receipts right with the register.
But when Intuit came out with the revised Quicken 2007 for Mountain Lion, I gladly went back.  I found that being able to update stock prices right in the portfolio view (for those not automatically found online) was handy - in iBank you have to generate a report to see the holdings, and then you have to switch to a view of "Securities" then scroll down through that list to find your stock, then "edit" then change the price, then "Save" then go back to reports and re-generate the portfolio view.  Also, if you enter a stock purchase in a Quicken register, the price you paid gets added to the price history for the stock (as of the date of the transaction).  No such help in iBank.  Most of the helpful UI features (like increasing the date with the + key) are glaringly missing in iBank.  I find I am getting no more than about 3-4 keystrokes before having to move the mouse and click.
If you are considering sharing the app on an iPad, Quicken won't work, but I found that iBank for iPad doesn't work either.  The interface is completely different from the Mac version, you can't do much with it, and if you have a stock whose price is $11.25 / share and sell 200 shares, you might find that $22.50 gets added to your cash in the account.  (I actually made a few million dollars when it decided that 200 shares at $11.25  yielded $2,250,000.)  Luckly, I received a refund for that app.
Depending on how the Mavericks switch goes, I hope to be able to stick with Quicken, but I am keeping my records up-to-date in both now, because I can live with iBank.  I will just have to keep an eye on its arithmetic.

  • Personal Records Program for Mac

    Hi -
My wife and I are doing our wills, and are looking for a program that can present a record of our personal information (bank accounts, life insurance policies, safe deposit box, funeral plans, personal bequests, etc.), and wonder if anyone knows of a Mac program for OS X 10.4 and 10.5 that will allow us to enter and print information of that type. Thanks in advance for any help.

What you are probably thinking of is a database: unfortunately there is a severe scarcity of these for Macs: Bento doesn't work on Tiger, Filemaker is expensive and difficult to use, the database section in Open Office is frankly a mess, and AppleWorks is no longer available.
However, there can't really be all that much information? - a few bank accounts, not a hundred, and so on: your simplest option is probably just to create an ordinary word processing document and decide on a layout to make the information clear: divide into sections, and type the information in. Do it as a rich text file in TextEdit and it will be readable for the foreseeable future, which is more than can be said of some database formats.

  • Personal budget software for mac's

I am looking for a personal budget/accounting software suitable for Mac Air in Australia. Can anyone recommend one this will be suitable for Apple Macbook Air please? I have tried to download Quicken Personal that my husband has but it is not suitable for Mac Air. Help please.

Hey Duane, thank's for the info, only reason i ask on here was because i wanted to see if anyone had tried the software before. Also was trying to find out if it was decent. I had recently purchased Mactuneup from the Apple store i asked one of the employee's there if it was compatible for leopard? She replied yes! I looked at the spec's on the box it said 10.4 or higher. Took it home that same night and it said it was not compatible with leopard when i tried to install it. So are you saying that the download is a patch so it can work with leopard ? thank's for the help!!!!

  • Best personal finance app for mac?

I'm looking for the best finance app for my iMac. I'm most interested in tracking my accounts -- banking and investments. I'd like to have the software on my two iMacs and on 2 MacBooks without purchasing the product 4 times. Budgeting function is not a great need as I'm retired. I've been using Quicken for Windows.

Why not stay with Quicken and use Quicken for Mac? I searched the support site for you and found that you will be licensed for three installations with one purchase. So, unless you can forego quicken on one computer, you will have to purchase two copies.

  • What is the Best personal finance software for mac?

I was a quicken user years ago but they don't seem to have an updated version. Any suggestions?

Updated for what?  Home accounting principles are pretty much the same now as they were in 2007: Quicken 2007 for Intel (Snow Leopard, Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks) for $15 here:
    http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance-software/quicken-2007-osx-lion.jsp
I would still be using my Quicken Deluxe 2002 if it did not require Rosetta, which is no longer included in OS X since Lion.

  • What's the best personal finance software for mac?

Any recommendations for personal finance tracking/reporting software?
I've used Quicken and Bento but wonder if there isn't some easier way to keep track of credit cards, cash, income, checks, etc.
    Thanks.

Some often recommended include iBank (which I use and am quite satisfied with), MoneyDance and, if your needs are very modest, Quicken Essentials. Intuit has promised a version of Quicken 2007 that will run under Lion sometime this spring, but I've not seen any more specific date.
    Regards.

  • Best financial software for mac

What is the best personal financial software for mac? I am currently using Quicken 2007 but keep losing data.
    Thanks,

This is a bash on Quicken reply. I have struggled with Quicken (currently Q07) for many, many years (back into the 90's). I counted 13 different sets of Quicken datasets which have been left hanging on my various hard drives over these years as I found out through different support calls that I would have to discard a corrupted database and start over.
Last year, I was told by Quicken support during a  call I paid for that I had too many accounts and the database was too large. (This has been a common tech support comment for me) I've only tried to use Quicken for personal finance tracking, no securities tracking and the heavier features (thank goodness). The call ended with an all too familiar bottom line which was that the backups were all bad so they didn't help. The support person couldn't figure out how I could utlize the backup data so in the end, I re-entered the previous year so that I could get my taxes done and search for another program. I've researched enough to know I was lucky to not move to Quicken Express as was once advised. Apparently that software doesn't allow an export in the event you would find a different software.
The good news is that I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. As you may know, Quicken in any version does not work with this OS. I've finally found a perfect reason staring me in the face to never struggle to use Quicken again. Now to find a better option. Money has many features that seem like what I need for handling 5 or 6 bank accounts and credit cards. Has anyone experienced SEE software? It too seems to have decent features.
I don't know the background of this link but it may be a place to start:
    http://personal-finance-software-review.toptenreviews.com/mac-personal-finance-s oftware/
MacWorld also has a review on financial software for the Mac 2013
Best of luck to us all. Deciding on MtnLion and Mac vs. Quicken pppfffft no question which gets dumped!

  • Outlook for Mac 2011 14.3.2 person search incorrect

    Person search requires middle name
When connected to my enterprise environment Exchange server, why do I have to know a person't middle name to search for them?
If I want to search for the user whose full name is "Bob Anders Johnson" without the knowledge of their middle name, on pretty much any other search system, you can type in:
"Bob Johnson" and results will arise including the desired result.
"Bob" produces all Bob X X names. There's about a hundred... too many!
But if I type in "Bob Johnson" no results... as it's trying to match a middle name of Johnson. WTF?!?!
I guess if I'm crafty, I could search for the last name, but that's silly if there's a lot of Johnsons, as there would be no way to hone the search after typing in the last name...
I don't know Bob's middle name, why does Outlook & Exchange require me to?

    Hi RDW4,
I'm researching the issue and will update it soon.

  • Is there a good apple based alternative to the personal. finance software program "quicken for mac"?  It is a poorly supported program.

Is there a good apple based alternative to the persona finance software program "quicken for mac"?  It is a poorly supported program.

I switched from Quicken on a Windows computer to iBank on a Mac. It is a very good program, has very good free download connections to financial institutions (optional), and very good reports. The only negative is that it is just different enough from Quicken that there is a learning curve and the first month or two were frustrating -- but that is likely true of anything that you might change to. http://www.iggsoftware.com/ibank/

  • Wireless Headset for personal communicator

    Happy Monday ---
Which brand/model headset is being used outthere for personal communicator/soft phone? I am using USB headset Logitech, but I have been asked to get wireless instead. Need to alert users to check their laptop for Bluetooth capabilities.

I strongly recommend Plantronics headsets, also Jawbone is highly recommended and supported by Cisco:

  • Microsoft has added a community for Office for Mac at MS Answers

Not entirely related, just a heads up for Office for Mac users: Microsoft Answers now has an official Office for Mac community to ask questions at: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac

I recommend the FREE and very capable LibreOffice if people don't specifically need Office.
    http://www.libreoffice.org/
Runs on OS X, Windows and Linux. Reads/writes Office files too.
Office is only for those who trade editable files with other (enslaved) Office users.
If you need office software just for yourself, why pay?
If you need to send a LibreOffice file to another, just pack a copy of Libreoffice along for the ride, it's free.
Why put up with Office DRM scheme headaches?
Why put up with numerous "security" issues that have plagued Mac users with Office over the years?
Enough is enough, dump Microsoft completely and don't let them sucker you back into their "Stockholm Syndrome Effect" or make you feel sorry for them.
Office software should be free anyway now, god knows they can't improve it anymore.

  • Microsoft Communicator for Mac

The company I'm currently working for uses Dell laptops with Microsoft Office Communicator as their IM. I have a Macbook Pro and have installed Communicator for Mac. It persists in either logging out constantly or refusing to log in, despite the password being correct.
It's very unstable - making my work day very hard work. Has anyone else come across this problem and do you know how to fix it?
    I'm using version 13.1.3.

    Hello chrisr1965,
If it's helpful, have a look at http://blog.officeformac.com/office-for-mac-2011-and-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/ - Microsoft's Mac team are working to resolve this known issue with Communicator in the Lion's environment.
