Personal domain just takes me to idisk....

Just created a mobile me account. I have registered a new domain ..."www.nakean.com". I changed dns setting so it reads www.domain Cname web.me.com. When I publish from iweb and click view published it takes me to http://www.teamarch.com/Nakeans_Photography/index.html. where I get an error 404 message. When I type www.nakean.com it promps for password which then takes me to my idisk. I looked through all the folders and found nothing in any of them. I thought it was supposed to upload my site into the site folder. Moreover, I thought it should just take me to my website when I typed in my name. Is this all because I have not waited the predicted 24 to 48 hour period of time? Is there more that I need to set up?

In MobileMe under the Personal Domain name settings you should have entered www.nakean.com. Check that this is the case or it could prevent it from working.
Also, under your DNS control panel 'www' under host name is incorrect. You need to put web.me.com as your host name because MobileMe is hosting your site, not your domain name.
When you publish from iWeb to MobileMe, MobileMe is hosting your site and you are not publishing directly to your domain name. Rather, you are forwarding your domain name to your MME hosted site, This means that if you have (alias) and (host) come up, then your domain name is the alias and MobileMe is your host - so in your case the host name needs to be changed from 'www', which actually represents your domain name to where your site is actually hosted, which is MobileMe - so web.me.com.
Try this and you should find that your site works.

  • My personal domain just links to my MobileMe, not my published site - any ideas?

I set up a personal domain via dreamhost to use for me MobileMe hostest iWeb site. I have published my website, and when I click "visit site" it takes me there, but to the web.me.com/blablahblah address. When I navigate to my domain address, it asks me for my mobile me username and password instead of taking me to the public site. When I enter those anyway, it just loads up me MobileMe homepage.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Have you carried out both stages of setting up Personal Domain? -
    1. At your ISP, change the CNAME to web.me.com
    2. At http://me.com/account , click Personal Domain in the sidebar and enter the domain name without the www.
It sounds as if you have omitted step 2. I'm assuming you haven't passwprd-protected your web site. Note that domain.com may work and www.domain.com not work, or vice versa, depending on how your domain name provider works.

  • My personal domain name takes me to another site. Need Help.

I created 2 sites in iweb - one for myself and one for a friend.
My personal domain is on my dot mac account.
My friend's is on her dot mac account.
When I type my URL into my browser it goes to my friend's site.
    My domain is:
    http://www.eggstardesign.com.au
When I type it in it becomes:
    http://www.eggstardesign.com.au/GreenWith_EnvyInteriors/Home.html
and goes to the Green With Envy site.
However, when I'm logged into my dot mac acct and I click on 'my pages' it takes me to my site:
    http://www.eggstardesign.com.au/graphic_design/home.html
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how i can fix it?
    Thanks.

    Hey Chuck,
WebForward is less complicated and just works...
Differences between WebForward, WebForward with cloaking and CNAME:
    - WebForward: after you typed yourdomain.com in the browser you get forwarded to web.mac.com/username/ and web.mac.com/username/ will display in the browser
    - WebForward with Cloaking: after you typed yourdomain.com in the browser yourdomain.com will display in the browser and don't change while people browse through your website
    - CNAME yourdomain.com will display instead of web.mac.com/username/ and while browsing through your website it will look like yourdomain.com/sitename/nameofpagepeoplelookatnow.html
In CNAME yourdomain.com stays in the url the browser displays while your visitor visits the site and changes the part after .com to fit the page they're visiting... It's simply looking better than putting in yourdomain.com and then web.mac.com appears and yourdomain vanishes......

  • Personal Domain + web forwarding = big headache

I wrote an email to the tech people on my domain service provider, Network Solutions, because I've yet to see my website load properly.
I was directed to use web forwarding, and I set that up over the weekend. However, though I am hosted through MobileMe, my personal domain link takes me to a blank page. There had been an under construction page.
Here is my question: if I am using web forwarding, should I remove the personal domain from my Mobile Me preferences? Could that be the reason it won't work?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What do you mean by web forwarding? Is that CNAME or URL forwarding?
If it's the usual URL forwarding then you should not have any domain name setup in your MMe preferences. Ethmoid's post in this topic discusses how to remove it: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8990293#8990293
Then you forward your domain name (at Network Solutions) to:
    http://web.me.com/MobileMeAccount_Name/SiteName/

  • Personal domain and idisk

Hi, my question is, can i use the idisk to host my own personal website that is currently being hosted at another site, and use my own domain name? I am not using iweb but i do have idisk. I simply want to move my current website thats being hosted elsewhere to my idisk and use my personal domain.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
can i use the idisk to host my own personal website that is currently being hosted at another site, and use my own domain name?
Yes. Just copy the folder and files that you put on the other server onto your iDisk in the Web/Sites folder. You should have an index.html file and a folder with the site files. Have your domain name provider point the name to "http://web.mac.com/your account name/". As long as there is only one site in that folder and one index.html file (outside of the site folder) that will do it.

  • Just Got iWeb '08, Need Help Setting Up Personal Domain

    Hi,
Can someone please explain how I set up a personal domain account. Do I have to purchase the www.myaccount.com through a different website? If so, what do you suggest for a low price and easy compatibility with iWeb.

  • Can't view my personal domain html hosted on .mac mobleme

I just set up a mobleme or .mac trial account because I am now using iWeb to redisign my web page. When I publish the site it gives me a message saying I can now view my web page at http://mywebdomain.com but when I click the menu to view it the web browser takes me to the adress but it is the .mac page and it says it doesn't exist. When I check my .mac personal settings the page is listed as my personal domain and the iweb file is listed in my iDisk file menu. so where is my site and how do I fix this problem?

Okay, so have you entered your domain name into the personal domain setting in your MMe account?
Have you been to your domain name registrar or hosting company and changed the DNS settings so that you can set-up CNAME to re-direct your domain name to MMe? If not you need to do this before you can view your site. It will be something similar to www, then pick CNAME from a drop down menu or fill in and then web.me.com and CNAME is set. It can take up to 24 hours to take effect though.
If you have not altered these settings then you need to for your site to be visible. However, you can still view your site by going to web.me.com/username/sitename. All sites can be seen like this even if you have set up a personal domain.

  • Remove Personal Domain from MMe

I have added a Personal Domain to a MMe account. However, the domain transfer process is going to take a few more days, because of the grace period built into the process. As soon as I added the personal domain name in MMe (I have not clicked the "Done" button.) all of the page icons in iWeb turned red, indicating they needed to be republished. I have not republished. I can still get to my site using the web.me.com/username address, of course. I have made a a number of changes that I would like to publish.
Do I need to wait until the domain transfer process has been completed? I have not done anything to point the domain name to the MMe site at either the previous or future registrar.
Can I remove the Personal Domain from MMe until the domain process has been completed, and manage the site as before? If so, how do I do this?
If I go ahead and republish with the domain name in the MMe account (before the transfer process has been completed, and with the personal domain still associated with the account) can I still access it using the web.me.com/username address?
    Thanks...

Log into your MME account and go to the Personal Domain option. It has remove on the right side and just click on that to remove it.
Whether your domain name is linked to your site or not, you can always get to your site by using the url web.me.com/username/sitename.
If you are using iWeb, then your site will always only ever be published to your iDisk and MME and not your domain - it is only an illusion because your domain name is forwarded to your MME account.

  • HELP! Can I view a site I created with iWeb using a personal domain?

Sorry in advance if this question has already been addressed. I too am sort of a newbie to iWeb. I just purchased a domain name through Google Apps. I would like to create my website through iWeb using the domain name ("www.youngvoters08.com") that I already purchased through Google Apps.
At this point, I'm incredibly confused. Is it possible to type in my domain URL (that I purchased through Google Apps) and have my iWeb website come up? I set up my personal domain through .Mac and I even tried publishing its contents to a folder (that was even more confusing). The personal domain option says it will take up to 48 hours to link to my domain.
All I want for Christmas is to be able to type in "www.youngvoters08.com" and be directed to the site I created on iWeb (as opposed to creating my site through Google Apps). Is this at all possible? And does it require me to be patient for 48 hours?
I'm afraid that the .Mac personal domain option means that I have to have already created a website with another service provider, and it doesn't mean that the personal domain I already purchased ("www.youngvoters08.com") will take me to the website I created through iWeb. I'm also weary that I wasted $10.00 by buying a personal domain through Google Apps, especially if I cannot create the contents of my website through iWeb.
Did that make any sense at all??? (Sorry for the confusion and redundancy:)

If you have both sites on one domain file - that is they both load into iWeb at once - click on the name of site 2 in the sidebar and drag it to the top of the list so that it is now in the #1 position. Now do a "Publish all to .Mac".
Your domain name URL is being directed to the index.html file in the Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites folder. This file opens the site that is at the top of the list in iWeb or, if you are publishing your sites individually, the last site that you uploaded.

  • I cannot publish my to personal domain from iWeb via the publish button.

Ive registered the domain at mobile me and entered the cname at the registrar and still nothing. when i publish and its done i go to visit now and the site comes up but when i hit a link from somewhere else like google, i get the old unupdated site.

Firstly, no you do not register a domain name at MobileMe. MobileMe does not register domain names, it just hosts them. So what you actually did was enter your domain name into your MobileMe account under the Personal domain name settings.
Have you checked for sure that you have set up CNAME forwarding correctly? Check that you have as you need to forward your domain name (alias) to web.me.com (host).
Sometimes CNAME forwarding can take a little time, so you might find that your updated site is there now. What you can do however is go back into iWeb and publish the site again, so click publish all to MobileMe and this might work having set up to connect with your domain name.
You could also go and check your iDisk to see if the most current site is in your iWeb sites folder.

  • Iweb was not publishing changes to my personal domain name, AND now it won't let me publish at all!

Hi, i am new to the apple community so bare with me whilst i struggle to explain...
I recently purchased a hosting site through netregistry.net.  www.toyboxtherapies.com.au I spoke to them to allow the changes to the CNAME through their site. They did this for me. Once they did this my original 3 page site that I had published to mobileme came up.
When i added changes to the site, none of them were published even though iweb said they had been. I gave the site 48 hours (well, i gave them a week) to update the changes.
I went to double check today and now iweb wont let me publish to my domain name at all, it just lists File>Set up personal domain on mobile me.
When I log into mobile me my domain name is there. I have tried removing t and setting it up again, but nothing is happening with iweeb. Still the same problem.
Please help! I am trying to get this business off the ground and its all very frustrating!

This is what I see in a Lookup :
    ; <<>> DiG 9.6-ESV-R4-P3 <<>> www.toyboxtherapies.com.au cname +multiline +nocomments +nocmd +noquestion +nostats +search
    ;; global options: +cmd
    www.toyboxtherapies.com.au. 3600 IN CNAME web.me.com.
It means that the CNAME record points to MobileMe.
So go where you manage your domain and delete the CNAME record and change the  A-record(s) to point to your new webhost.
It takes some time for the changes to propagate thru the internet. A minimum of 20 minutes.
Note that when you publish to MobileMe, iWeb recieves the domainname information from the MobileMe server. Only when you publish elsewhere you have to enter the domainname. But if you do not change the settings where you host your domainname, it still directs to MMe. But that's beyond iWeb.

  • IWeb hanging at logging into MobileMe (Personal Domain Problem)

I've searched and searched for an answer to my problem all over the internet and these forums and keep coming up blank.
Apologies if the answer is somewhere and I've missed it.
It could be a wider problem with my MobileMe, but iWeb is where it first occurred.
I recently had my personal website forwarding to my MobileMe site, and was using the MobileMe webspace to host my site. I had set my personal domain (in MobileMe) to the personal website. Why I did this I'm not sure, as I wasn't actually using the external webspace, merely forwarding it to my MobileMe site.
However I then decided I wanted to create a new site and this is where the problems began to occur. When I tried to publish the new site, it seemingly tried to publish to personaldomain/new_website name/ which obviously didn't exist as there was no external webspace there.
I then decided to reset everything, get rid of the personal domain setting within MobileMe and just merely forward my external web addresses to my Me sites. Upon deleting my Personal Domain from the mobileme settings page and logging into iWeb, the website name next to my username was still my external website address, and iWeb seemed to think it was all still published (which it was, as when I went to my web.me.com/etc, my website was there) However I wanted to start from scratch and republish everything, so I deleted all the web/sites section from my idisk, and hoped I could republish everything (this could have been a mistake!)
Now when I try to publish, iWeb just hangs at logging into MobileMe and won't publish anything. iPhoto also won't upload new photo albums and neither will aperture. They just hang at syncing galleries.
I'm completely at a loss as to how to proceed. I've deleted preferences from iweb and also logged out of mobileme, put a fake name in and logged back in again (to clear the cache I think) and still iweb hangs. I've even tried creating a new user account and logging in there and still it hangs.
Apologies for the essay of a post, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Just some suggestions as to where to go would be helpful. I'm wondering if it's something to do with Keychains? I had a brief look in there but it all went over my head. This is the first problem I've ever had with my new mac, and being from a PC background, don't really know where to look to fix things.
Thanks in advance to people who even get through reading the entire post!

If stephen's suggestion doesn't help you might consider the following:

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.
Although for a different MMe issue it will clear out the MMe login info so you can enter everything anew and give it a fresh start.

  • Using existing .Mac pages in iWeb to personal domain

I've tried to find a way to take my existing .Mac pages and move them to my new domain. I made these pages way back when .Mac first started. Does anyone know if it's possible to bring in your existing .Mac pages, then change them to a personal domain?
    Message was edited by: Pup

Can't be done, as iWeb cannot import anything.
If you have a MobileMe account, then it should be possible to move your homepage and place it in the Sites folder on your iDisk.

  • Quick Question - Setting up Personal Domain with godaddy

    Hi there
Just a quick question to make sure I've done this correctly?
Ok, I've published my iWeb website.
I've purchased a personal domain with godaddy.
I've set up the personal domain in my mobile me account.
I then logged into my godaddy account and went to 'Total DNS Control and MX Records'
I changed the following under CNAME (Aliases)
    www web.me.com 1 Hour
and then added a new CNAME Record
    www.*******.com web.me.com 1 Hour
Have I done this all correctly?
Will it take a few hours to take effect?
Anything else I need to consider?
    Thanks for reading.
    Ross

CNAME settings can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
As long as you have forwarded your domain name to web.me.com, then it should be okay.

  • Personal Domain points to wrong iWeb site

I set up Personal Domain for one of my 3 sites. Changing the cname worked fine except it directs to the site at the top of my list. Is their a way to direct to a site not at the top.. The problem is that I have a site set up for the family that I just give them the address web.mac.com/username. That also can only be used by the top site. Any solution other than going back to web forwarding

What you need to do is separate out your sites so that they each have their own domain file and load into iWeb and publish one a time.
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
Each site will have its own .Mac URL like....
    http://web.mac.com/username/WebsiteName/PageName.html
Your domain name is directed to the index.html file that is in Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites.
When you publish another site this file is replaced by the one for the newly uploaded site.
Publish your business site to a folder and save the index.html file. Every time you upload another site to your iDisk, upload a copy of this "business" index file by drag and drop to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites to replace the one that iWeb uploaded and your domain name will go to the "business" site.
Is this as clear as mud?
