Personal Domain Set Up

Hello,
Is anybody out there manage to set up there personal domain following the steps that mac tells you to do.......for me it's been more than 3 days and nothing has happen.....my url is www.rvassmer.com and my mac.ulr is http://web.mac.com/rvassmer/site
The other question is........If I mask the mac url in godaddy, would it bring problems with search engines to crawl my site?
Thanks

Easiest way is just copy you web.mac site path (http://web.mac.com/rvassmer/site), go to godaddy and access you account.
Go to your domain name, click on it and click the "forward" tab. Paste or type the web.mac address in and click ok.
Within a few minute or a couple of hours it will work.
I have three such account there and that's all I ever do.

  • Personal Domain Set-Up Question

    Hi fellow iwebbers,
I had a quick question about personal domain set-ups. I am using a domain.com's registrar for my domain. Their DNS management system requires two entries: one for the "www" and one for the canonical name. If web.mac.com is the "www," what should be the canonical name?
Also, when I visit my published site directly from iweb, it takes me to www.(mydomain).com/site. Why does it add the "site" part? Why not go directly to just the domain? Does this affect the DNS records?
If my questions are stupid, then shut up because it's weebo's 21st bday tomorrow.

    1. Click here for information on canonical names.
    2. This doesn't affect the DNS records, which only control the portion of the URL before the third / character. The rest of the URL is determined by the location of the files on the server hosting them.

  • Google Analytics & Personal Domain Set Up

    Hello,
I want to set up Google Analytics for iWeb. I have a personal domain set up through .mac.
My question is when I log into Google Analytics to sign up it ask for a URL. Which one do I give? My personal one?
    Thanks,
    Luke

If your site is hosted on .Mac then you will find that your personal domain is just rerouted to your .Mac
As nothing will be held on your personal domain there will be nothing for google to search for. You will have to route it to http://web.mac.com/yourusernamehere/ address.
    IE; For my website: http://www.jamiejonesphoto.com
I would need to give the URL as: http://web.mac.com/jamie_jones/
But doe the Default Address you will need to give it the full address of what ever your front/home/opening page is. For me that would be: http://web.mac.com/jamie_jones/Site/Home.html
    I hope that helps.

  • IWeb hanging at logging into MobileMe (Personal Domain Problem)

I've searched and searched for an answer to my problem all over the internet and these forums and keep coming up blank.
Apologies if the answer is somewhere and I've missed it.
It could be a wider problem with my MobileMe, but iWeb is where it first occurred.
I recently had my personal website forwarding to my MobileMe site, and was using the MobileMe webspace to host my site. I had set my personal domain (in MobileMe) to the personal website. Why I did this I'm not sure, as I wasn't actually using the external webspace, merely forwarding it to my MobileMe site.
However I then decided I wanted to create a new site and this is where the problems began to occur. When I tried to publish the new site, it seemingly tried to publish to personaldomain/new_website name/ which obviously didn't exist as there was no external webspace there.
I then decided to reset everything, get rid of the personal domain setting within MobileMe and just merely forward my external web addresses to my Me sites. Upon deleting my Personal Domain from the mobileme settings page and logging into iWeb, the website name next to my username was still my external website address, and iWeb seemed to think it was all still published (which it was, as when I went to my web.me.com/etc, my website was there) However I wanted to start from scratch and republish everything, so I deleted all the web/sites section from my idisk, and hoped I could republish everything (this could have been a mistake!)
Now when I try to publish, iWeb just hangs at logging into MobileMe and won't publish anything. iPhoto also won't upload new photo albums and neither will aperture. They just hang at syncing galleries.
I'm completely at a loss as to how to proceed. I've deleted preferences from iweb and also logged out of mobileme, put a fake name in and logged back in again (to clear the cache I think) and still iweb hangs. I've even tried creating a new user account and logging in there and still it hangs.
Apologies for the essay of a post, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Just some suggestions as to where to go would be helpful. I'm wondering if it's something to do with Keychains? I had a brief look in there but it all went over my head. This is the first problem I've ever had with my new mac, and being from a PC background, don't really know where to look to fix things.
Thanks in advance to people who even get through reading the entire post!

If stephen's suggestion doesn't help you might consider the following:

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.
Although for a different MMe issue it will clear out the MMe login info so you can enter everything anew and give it a fresh start.

  • Can't view my personal domain html hosted on .mac mobleme

I just set up a mobleme or .mac trial account because I am now using iWeb to redisign my web page. When I publish the site it gives me a message saying I can now view my web page at http://mywebdomain.com but when I click the menu to view it the web browser takes me to the adress but it is the .mac page and it says it doesn't exist. When I check my .mac personal settings the page is listed as my personal domain and the iweb file is listed in my iDisk file menu. so where is my site and how do I fix this problem?

Okay, so have you entered your domain name into the personal domain setting in your MMe account?
Have you been to your domain name registrar or hosting company and changed the DNS settings so that you can set-up CNAME to re-direct your domain name to MMe? If not you need to do this before you can view your site. It will be something similar to www, then pick CNAME from a drop down menu or fill in and then web.me.com and CNAME is set. It can take up to 24 hours to take effect though.
If you have not altered these settings then you need to for your site to be visible. However, you can still view your site by going to web.me.com/username/sitename. All sites can be seen like this even if you have set up a personal domain.

  • Personal Domain still linked to MobileMe

I have my personal domain set to forward to my facebook account. However, since it use to be linked to an iWeb-designed webpage, it still seems to be linked to MobileMe for some reason. I deleted the personal domain option from my MobileMe account but for some reason everytime I go to my personal domain it says I'm linked to Me.com. Any suggestions?

Have you deleted the site itself from your iDisk/MobileMe account?
Have you been to your domain name registrar and deleted the CNAME settings that you set up when you first used your domain name with MobileMe? If not, then you need to go back and do this. It is not just your MobileMe account that you need to alter.

  • How do you set up more than one Personal domain name to your .Mac account

I have registered 3 domain names changed all the cnames to web.mac.com.
Now on the menu to set Personal domain on my .Mac account it only lets you add 0ne Domain name?
How do we add more or is there a limit?

You can only set one domain name. You can of course use other means to forward the other two to the one you have put in your .Mac Account Settings.

  • How to cancel "set up personal domain"

Does anyone know how I cancel the "set up personal domain" in iWeb 2.0? I changed my mind halfway through the set-up process (I clicked Personal Domain in my Account Settings, entered my domain name, but haven't defined my CNAME on my registrar's website). Now it looks like I can't access either my iWeb files OR my personal domain name! Thanks for your help!

  • Quick Question - Setting up Personal Domain with godaddy

    Hi there
Just a quick question to make sure I've done this correctly?
Ok, I've published my iWeb website.
I've purchased a personal domain with godaddy.
I've set up the personal domain in my mobile me account.
I then logged into my godaddy account and went to 'Total DNS Control and MX Records'
I changed the following under CNAME (Aliases)
    www web.me.com 1 Hour
and then added a new CNAME Record
    www.*******.com web.me.com 1 Hour
Have I done this all correctly?
Will it take a few hours to take effect?
Anything else I need to consider?
    Thanks for reading.
    Ross

CNAME settings can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
As long as you have forwarded your domain name to web.me.com, then it should be okay.

  • Set Up Personal Domain

I can't seem to find where it is I can set up my personal domain so that dot mac hosts that domain name? I've looked all over the website and cannot find it.

  • Do you need .Mac accout to set up personal domain name!?

i've just bought iLife '08 and i thought you could publish your own websites through iWeb. But so far it looks like i have to pay 60 odd quid on a .Mac account!! what a p* take!!

The "set up personal domain" is for directing a personal domain name at your .Mac account. This is of no use to you if you are hosting with a commercial service.
When you host your website on the Apple server with a .Mac account your URL is something like this....
    http://web.mac.com/YourName/YourWebsiteName/PageName.html
You can register a domain name and direct it at your .Mac account so that the URL is more like...
    http://www.yourname.com/pagename.html
When you are using a commercial hosting service you register your domain name and instruct the registration company to direct it at your servers IP address.

  • Setting up a Personal Domain

I am using iweb 08 and trying to set up my personal domain to be used with my iweb site. I changed all the CNAME etc, but when I type in the personal domain in mobile me it says "We are unable to configure domains at this time. Please try again later." Waiting and trying again later doesn't make a difference because I constantly get this message. Has anyone been able to resolve this? Thanks

  • Setting up personal domains

How do I add a personal domain name that I bought from GoDaddy to my mobileme account to use with iWeb?

    Start by reading some manuals.
You publish to MobileMe. With or without a domainname.
To use your domainname, follow the instruction in your MobileMe account where you setup Personal Domain.
    https://secure.me.com/account/
where you find a link to iWeb: [Using your own domain name|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1107]

  • Setting Up Personal Domain

    Hi Everyone,
I wasn't noob at this before, but I guess I fall back into this category. I recently purchased and install Mac OS X 10.5.2 Server, and I am trying to set everything up. I understand most of the basics, but I want to use my personal domain, deviantsynergy.com as the domain on my system. I know I need name servers and such. But I only get a Dynamic IP from my ISP, and I am behind a dlink DIR-625 router. I believe there are some sites that I can use dynamic dns, but I am at a total loss of how to set all this up. I want to be able to host websites, have mail server set up for my collegues, etc. Can someone give me the run down on how to get this all going?
    Thanks!

    First setup a dyndns account.
For the dynamic IP you could perhaps use a dyndns FQDN as the pointer to your DNS hosting your own domainname, if the domain registrar will allow you.
deviantsynergy.com NS deviantsynergy.dyndns.org (or some other FQDN using one of dyndns domains)
To update the account at dyndns with the current dynamic IP either use the router or a dyndns client running on the server.
Use a static IP for the server on the router/server LAN and forward the ports and protocols you need to it.
A coule of years back I helped another guy who eventually got this working.
It might be easier if the router supports NAT loopback and if you have a second internal only domain setup on the server.
