Installing Oracle Database 10g on Linux Red Hat 5.1
While inslalling Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Linux x86-64 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.1 (Tikanga) we've got an error
Checking operating system version: must be redhat-3, SuSE-9, redhat-4, UnitedLinux-1.0, asianux-1 or asianux-2
Failed <<<<
Could we install Oracle Database 10g on Linux Red Hat 5.1 or we need only Oracle Database 11g?Verify that the redhat-release RPM is installed on your Red Hat system:
rpm -q redhat-release
This RPM is important for RHEL since RHEL AS 4, RHEL AS 3, and RHEL AS 2.1 are Linux releases supported by Oracle. Without this RPM, Oracle 10g OUI won't be able to recognize it as a supported OS. However, the installer of 10g 10.1.0.3 does not recognize RHEL AS 4 as a supported release yet. This means that you will have to edit the /etc/redhat-release file. You also have to change /etc/redhat-release for unsupported releases like Fedora Core and RH9.
I do not recommend to execute "runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs" since this will disable other checks you probably don't want to.
On RHEL AS 4 (for 10g R1), RH9, and FC 1 you have to change the /etc/redhat-release file to make Oracle 10g believe it's running on a supported release.
Regarding RHEL AS 4, the installer for 10g 10.1.0.3 does not recognize RHEL AS 4 as a supported release but 10g R2 OUI does.
To change the /etc/redhat-release file, you can simply copy/paste the following commands:
su - root
cp /etc/redhat-release /etc/redhat-release.orig
cat > /etc/redhat-release << EOF
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon)
EOF
After you are done with the Oracle10g installation, undo the changes you made to /etc/redhat-release:
su - root
cp /etc/redhat-release.orig /etc/redhat-release

Need Oracle Database 10g For Mac OS 10.4 PowerPC
Hi, I am looking for Oracle Database 10g for Mac OS 10.4 PowerPC. I need to run this software on a PowerBook G4. I would appreciate any download links or tips that can help.
I am using Virtual PC 7 running Windows 2000, but the emulator runs painfully slow. Things would run a lot smoothly if I had the PowerPC version of Oracle Database. I heard it exist.

How to install Oracle software remotely?
Remote Software Installation Steps: (For Solaris only)
If you want to install Oracle Software remotely, you should perform the following steps. These steps are applicable only if your source and target machine are running Unix.
For example, you can install Oracle Software from your home from Washington, DC to a target source in California.
1. Pick your source server or machine for remote installation.
2. Check that your CD is in your source CD-ROM drive.
3. On the target machine, find your target machine name with the output of the /usr/bin/hostname
4. On the source machine, login as a user.
5. On the source machine, enable client access: % /usr/openwin/bin/xhost + target-machine-name
6. Become root user by typing: su (dont use -)
7. Check that Volume Manger is running. # ps ef |grep vold (if you see an entry that contains /usr/sbin/vold, Volume Manager is running. Then skip to Step 10.
8. If not then do the following: # mkdir p /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
9. # mount F hsfs r cdrom-device /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
10. Add the following line to your /etc/dfs/dfstab file: # share F nfs o ro /cdrom/your-cd-file-name
11. Verify whether your source machine is an NFS server: # ps ef | grep nfsd
12. If you see an entry that contains /use/lib/nfs/nfsd a 16, then nfsd is running and skip to Step 16.
13. If nfsd is running, then type: # /usr/sbin/shareall
14. If nfsd is not running, then start nfsd by typing: # /etc/init.d/nfs.server start
15. Verify whether your source machine is an NFS server again by typing: # ps ef | grep nfsd
16. Make sure your source machine is exporting your product directory by typing: # /usr/sbin/dfshares
17. Now, log in to the target machine by type: # rlogin target-machine-name l user (not root)
18. Then log in as the root user by typing: # su
19. Go to the source machine by typing: # cd /net/source-machine/cdrom/your-cd-file-name ,then Skip to 24.
20. If you cannot change to that directory in Step 19 and you do not have an auto-mounter on your network, then create amount point by typing the following commands.
21. # mkdir /remote_products
22. # /usr/sbin/mount F nfs r source-machine:/cdrom/your-cd-file-name /remote_products
23. # cd /remote_products
24. Redirect the target machine display to source machine by typing: # DISPLAY=source-machine:0; export DISPLAY (if you use a Bourne or Korn shell).
25. Start the Web Start Installer by typing: # ./installer (or whatever the installer name program is). -

The complete installation installation guide is included with the installation software. It is also part of the exhaustively complete documentation set for every oracle product found at tahiti.oracle.com. Go there, select your product and version. When you arrive at the page for your specific product version, somewhere on that page (location varies between versions) you will find a link to the installation guide.
Also please note that there are several versions of Vista, and the Oracle db is not certified for all of them, but only for specific versions. -

Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Client 9i together
Hi, I've been lost some nights in this problem, in my job I will need migrate my Oracle Database 10g for a new computer, on the other hand, there is a software in this computer wrote in Visual Basic and this running only Oracle 9i Client.
Is it possible configure my new server for run Oracle Database 10g and Oracle 9i Client together?
Thanks!
EmersonYou can certainly use an Oracle 9i client to connect to an Oracle 10g database. Technically, you may have to apply the 9.2.0.4 patchset to the Oracle client to be completely supported, but that may not be strictly necessary.
You can also have both a 10g database and a 9i client installed on the same machine in different Oracle Homes. You may have some issues on Windows, however, if you are using software that is not multi-home compliant (i.e. the Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle) or if you call Oracle command-line utilities (exp, imp, etc) without explicitly setting the PATH first.

I am looking for a Oracle release to work at home. I need compatibility with Oracle 9i, release installed at work. I think Oracle Database 9i Personal Edition would be perfect, but I didn't find where is the correct download for Linux.

I installed Oracle database 10g on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 edition.
I installed Oracle database 10g on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 edition.
But this massage pop up when I used my browser first time before start database.
Actually when I clicks on yes to start database.
The web browser you are using is not optimized for this release of Oracle enterprise manager. It is recommended that you use one of the following:
* Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5, 6.0 or higher
* Netscape Navigator version 7 and higher
*Mozilla version 1.3.1 and higher
Dose any one know hoe to upgrade mozilla or install internet explorer 5.5, 6.0 or higher or SLES 8.
Regards,
DYou can download package for your distribution (for example) from http://www.mozilla.org or directly from SuSE ftp server ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.1/suse/i586

Oracle Database 10g Express Edition in a 64 bits Linux?
Can I use Oracle Database 10g Express Edition in a 64 bits Linux? Thank you.
I´m sure AMD 64 can emulate 32 bits, my problem is about the OS. I mean I´m not sure about the question: Can 64 bits RHEL or FC4 run 32 bits programs as Oracle Database 10g Express Edition?
Thanks. -

Oracle Database 10g Express Edition & linux Fedora
Hi guys
How are you doing?
I want to ask about my problem which is I can't access to the home page of Oracle Database 10g Express Edition when I press on "Go To Database Home Page" it's open firefox but does not do any thing by the way I try to write the web page http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex on the address bar but firefox give me an error which is "Unable to connect"
So please when you know the solution post it here step by step "I'm beginner linux user" .
My distribution is Fedora 14
..Thanks a lot
SalehWas the configure step completed successfully?i.e., did you run
/etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure after you installed the rpm? This is similar in XE 10g and 11g beta. You can run this again to reenter your configuration parameters, especially concerning HTTP port, and make sure they have the expected values that way.
Despite that, you could try to (re)start the service, and see if it comes up without errors.
/etc/init.d/oracle-xe stop
/etc/init.d/oracle-xe startIf everything doesn't look too bad, you could have a port conflict with another service using port 8080. In that case, you could reconfigure XE to have its HTTP server listening to a different port.
