Personal hotspot always disconnects

Not sure if anyone else has a problem with their iPad 2 constantly disconnecting from the iPhone 4 personal hotspot if left for any period of time, but is there any way to prevent this from happening?
Very annoying as you have to into settings every time to reconnect.
Thanks

I am pleased to see that I am not the only one that has this problem, Natal. A few months ago I found a discussion in here that suggested turning Bluetooth off and I had some success.
I even found that when I am connected to my router having Bt off allowed me to faultlessly play wordfu (multi-player using my iphone4 and an ipod4) but with it on the iPhone disconnects with 2 minutes.
I have reported the bug and started another discussion but no one has replied, here it is
https://discussions.apple.com/message/15703931#15703931. I even put it on whirlpool but lost interest when there was no productive replies. You should find it by searching for the same text I used to name the apple discussion the link above takes you to.
To everyone else REPORT, REPORT, REPORT. This should not be still happening in IOS5, considering the problems people have had with Apples wireless comms.

  • IOS 5 Personal Hotspot always showing 1 Connection

Whenever I turn on Personal Hotspot on my iPhone 4Gs (Verizon), the blue bar comes up saying "Personal Hotspot: 1 Connection". When I connect my iPad (original iPad Wi-Fi version) to the iPhone Personal Hotspot, this changes to "2 Connections".
I was worried that some other device was connecting to my Personal Hotspot, so I changed the password, but still always see the "1 Connection".
Is this expected behavior? I wouldn't expect any connections by default.
Is there a way to see what is connected to my Personal Hotspot?
    Thanks

I had the same worrie,,, but i think its that the one device does connect twice,,, once via the plugged in USB and the other via wireless,,, i pull the usb out and drops back to one device connected.

  • Personal Hotspot doesn't work correctly

After upgrading my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 (Wi-Fi only) to iOS 5, the Personal Hotspot doesn't work the same way as it was in iOS 4. In iOS 4, I had the Personal Hotspot always turned on on iPhone and whenever I took the iPad and wanted to connect to internet, it connected almost immediately and automaticaly to the iPhone. Now (in iOS 5), I have the personal hotspot turned on again, however, the iPad even doesn't see the iPhone wi-fi. I have to unlock the iPhone, go to the settings (change nothing!) and than the iPad see the wi-fi. It is not automatical. Personal Hotspot was the reason, why I bought only wi-fi iPad and now it doesn't work well. Do you have any idea what to do?
    Thanks

I have similar but mind bobbling issue. Using iPhone 4s with os5.01. Turned on hotspot, on the cellular data, tried reset network setting to factory default but my hotspot signal is not discoverable by my ipad2, laptop and other wireless devices.
Went to office, get my friend using iPhone 4 running os4.35 to turn on hotspot. Immediatedly found his hotspot in my ipad2 and the funny thing is that my hotspot signal from 4s suddenly pop up in my ipad2 wifi network, appeared in my laptop and other nokia phone without me touching anything on my 4s. Able to connect and work well. But as soon as I turn off the hotspot, it became not discoverable again when turned on. Tried resetting the network setting but nothing worked.
The next day, the hotspot signal become discoverable again as soon as my friend turn on his hotspot. It seemed that my hotspot signal need a another hotspot signal to appear. This is ridiculous. If my friend is not around, I will never get my hotspot connected to my iPad2 or make use of this capability.
Sounds funny but this is true and proven. It has been a week now that I keep repeating the same thing in office. I tried not turning off the hotspot after it is discoverable but it is draining off the battery faster.
    Any tips you can share....

  • Where is option to "disconnect wifi clients" from personal hotspot?

According to this Apple Knowledge Base article, there should be an option in Settings > Wifi to "disconnect wifi clients" who are connected to the iPhone via personal hotspot: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4517
I do not see that in the Settings. I am on an iPhone 4, iOS 5.01, AT&T. Does anyone else see this? Was it removed in an iOS update? The KB article says it was updated December 14, 2011, so it should be pretty current.

I too was looking for it and it's. It in my iPhone 4 AT&T 5.0.1 Perhaps it's not in this firmware update, in another location or apple decided to axe this option.
Perhaps they reason that if you're going to disconnect all users, and leaving wifi sharing on was redundant as the wifi will cease to hotspot after 90 seconds anyways, it probably saves battery life... I dunno all I can think of.

Why when I use personal hotspot at my iPad mini retina for my iPhone it doesn't stay for long,it disconnect after 5minute

Assuming you are using OSX, connect iphone ny usb then go to system preferences. Go to network pane and scroll down to "wheel" and from the drop down select service order. If you see the iphone then drag it to the top of the list then select apply.

  • Re6500 connecting to Ipad Personal Hotspot --- disconnected.

Im trying to connect my re6500 to my ipad person hostspot.    I select  the ipad hotspot  (verizon) in Site Survey and connect.  After several seconds the web page refreshs then on Basic setting page it says status Disconnected.
I have no problems using an android phone hotspot (also on verizon) with the Re6500
Is there a compatibilty problem with using the RE6500 to a ipad personal hotspot?
I was also able to use the re6500 with an AT&T unite hotspot...    So it looks like theres an issue with the re6500-->ipad hotspot

Hi, I have iphone 4s and since yesterday my personal hotspot will not work. It's always worked fine in the past and I have a plan with three uk which includes tethering. I've tried everything I can think of including resetting network settings, resetting the phone as a new phone but nothing works. When connected to the pc it shows on the iphone screen '1 connection' but the pc says 'no internet connection' I've spoken to three who say it must be a phone fault. Any help appreciated. :-)

If you have restored as new that pretty well covers software issues

May e consider an upgrade with the money ?

  • How to keep my personal hotspot on always with no changes to off?

HI,i have two devices and i want to keep the personal hotspot on all the time. How do I have to keep the personal hotspot on all the time and not to be changed In case I want to track it? Thank you

If you are using the Music App, it should continue to play the songs while playing solitaire, unless the game app settings prevent it, which I really doubt.
Quit both apps - Music and Solitaire and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Try again and see if it works properly.

  • Personal hotspot not discoverable after disconnect or sleep

    Hi
I am experiencing a problem with the personal hotspot on my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3).
If I activate the personal hotspot on my iPhone, it work great initially, but if I let my laptop or iPad 2 go to sleep while still connected, neither device can reconnect to the iPhone personal hotspot again when I wake them. It's as thou the personal hotspot is no longer discoverable.
The only way I can re-connect it to go to the personal hotspot settings on the iPhone. I don't change any settings, it just works again when the settings screen appears on the iPhone, then the laptop and iPad can see the hotspot and connect again.
Even though the personal hotspot is still enabled, it doesn't seem to be discoverable until I remind it that it should be, by opening the personal hotspot setting screen. This is my second iPhone 4 and my second iPad 2 following other issues, but this issue was present on my old iPhone 4 too.
I tried resetting the network settings and also restored the phone from scratch, with the same issue.
    Anyone any ideas?
Another little thing, more of an annoyance... Anyway to disable the dreadful flashing blue connection notification at the iPhone screen top? Just a blue static bar would do. Takes up too much space and is a little distracting.
    Regards
    Mr M

I have an iPhone 4S on Sprint and I have an iPhone and MiFi on Verizon.  I have the same problem as describe in the original post--when my connected device goes to sleep, it cannot find the hotspot when I wake the device from sleep mode.
My only work around has been to turn Hotspot off, count to 10 slowly and then turn HotSpot back on.  Then the Hotspot is still not discoverable UNTIL I tap Network settings on my iPad or click the Network orange star in the system tray--it's like I have to tell my device to go out and look again.  On my Lenovo laptop, I also often have to power cycle the entire laptop.
I agree its very annoying to re-setup connections.  I often use Sleep mode on my connected devices to save battery during particularly boring parts of meetings!
Wish this worked seamlessly like we all expect it to.

  • Personal Hotspot Wi-Fi AT&T iPhone 4 Disconnecting Periodically

    Greetings!
I have an AT&T iPhone 4 that I'm connecting to either a new 13" MacBook Air or iPad 2 via the Personal Hotspot Wi-Fi connection. I have the requisite plan from AT&T.
I can stay connected for various lengths of time, usually ranging from five minutes to forty minutes, until the connection is dropped between the iPhone 4 and whichever device I'm connected to.
When this occurs, the only way to get it connected again is to turn off the iPhone 4 and then turn it back on again.
No matter how many times I toggle the Personal Hotspot on or off and/or the Wi-Fi, the SSID is no longer seen on any device.
Usually when I reconnect, after I've power-cycled the iPhone 4, I am again prompted for the Personal Hotspot's WPA2 key.
Neither the 13" MacBook Air or the iPad 2 exhibit this behavior on other Wi-Fi networks (I haven't tried using anyone else's Personal Hotspot).
I have reset the Network settings to no avail.
Has anyone else experienced this particular issue, and if so, did you find a solution?
    Thank you.

I think you are running into the following issue.
    From: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2756
Note: If you leave the Personal Hotspot screen or put iPhone to sleep, iPhone only broadcasts the Wi-Fi network for an additional 90 seconds. If no devices join the Wi-Fi network during that time, iPhone 4 stops broadcasting your Wi-Fi network. You can start broadcasting your Wi-Fi network again by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot.
So, if I understand correctly, if you leave your iphone on the the Settings --> Personal Hotspot screen, than it shouldn't stop broadcasting.

  • When I use Iphone 4 personal hotspot on USB, it works for a short time and then times out.

When I use Iphone 4 personal hotspot on USB, it works for a short time and then times out.
When pinging my iphone directly at 172.20.10.1, while I'm surfing and it times out, the ping shows nothing but "request timed out" .. Sometimes it "comes back" and sometimes I have to reboot my phone or disconnect the USB.. It's always done this and only on USB, it's very frustrating.
I have packet sniffed also, using Wireshark. When the "timeouts" happen, there's no more data coming from the Iphone. My PC continually sends ARP requests as well and don't get responses.
Have searched google endlessly and have gotten no where. This has been going on for several months and I'm just getting a bit fed up now.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
