Personal hotspot n iPad 2

I would like to set up a personal hotspot on my iPad to use the Internet for my Mac...any ideas?
I already have this feature on my iPhone 4 ... Don't remember how I did it

Just to correct the outdated information in this thread, I have a new iPad, which supports personal hotspot out of the box (without jailbreaking).  Personal hotspot is (now) not only for iPhones.
BTW I don't know if new firmware for ipad2 supports this, or if it's 3rd gen iPad exclusive.
The information in this thread is still correct. The iPad2 can not be used as a hotspot. This thread is specifically about the iPad2.

If your carrier supports the personal hotspot on the iPad (and some carriers only support it on the iPhone) then it should appear in Settings > General > Cellular Data > Personal Hotspot - if it doesn't appear then contact your carrier in case they don't support it or it might be an extra fee/subscription with them

  • Personal Hotspot from iPad to iPad?

Hi, I'm still new to Apple iPad. I would like to ask regarding the personal hotspot service in my new iPad. Currently I am troubled by one major problem, why the other iPad not able to detect the personal hotspot that I activated? Is it naturally like that? Because I tried to activate the personal hotspot and my Samsung smartphone was able to detect and connect it as easy as ABC. And when I tried to open to my friend's iPad, all the iPad cannot detect my personal hotspot. How to solve this problem?

  • HT201270 I am unable to use personal hotspot in iPad 3

I am unable to get the settings as personal hotspot .

Does your carrier support it on the iPad (even if they support it on the iPhone they don't necessarily also support it on the iPad) ? You may also need to contact them in case it's an extra fee/subscription, and it should initially appear under Settings > General > Network > Personal Hotspot (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4517)

  • IPhone 4s doesn't find personal hotspots from iPad Air 2 or iPhone 6

    Hello All,
I have an old iPhone 4s that I use on wifi and as a media player.
I also have an iPhone 6 on ATT and an iPad Air 2 on Tmobile. Both of these devices have hotspot capability and I can connect them to each other in the event one does not have a data connection. Also, both of these work tethered to my macbook pro by wifi or usb.
My problem is that when I pull up the wifi settings menu on my iPhone 4s, the "personal hotspot" section does not pop up. It's as if the iPhone 4s doesn't see the personal hotspots at all. There are times there isn't a wifi signal, and I would like to download a song to my iPhone 4s by using the hotspot on either my iPhone 6 or iPad Air 2.
    Anybody have any advice?
    Thanks!

You have asked the "Crystal Ball" question here.
The iPhone 6 and Plus are already obsolete from a marketing perspective so to keep waiting is effectively a way to never buy. Sure, there will a new shiny phone in 2015 but not for some time. The real question is whether to go for an iPhone or iPad. If you are developing, then it will be up to your target device that you use the most. I would update your iPad as the 2 has already become long in the tooth and probably will not run iOS 8.1.1 reliably (not that anything does right now). The iPhone 4S is really struggling with iOS 8.1.1 and quite frankly I am surprised that Apple included it in the iOS 8 release platforms. Mine has run like a dog since it upgraded and if I was able, I would have backdated it to iOS 7 in a New York second.
If money was no object, I would update the iPad first and then get the iPhone 6Plus as the more generally used platform for mobility.

  • Can't activate Personal Hotspot on iPad 4, but can on iPhone 4...

    Hello -
I have the new iPad and I can't get the personal hotspot to turn on. It simply has the round 'busy' icon and no on/off switch. The strange thing is that this works fine on my iPhone 4 with the same carrier (b-mobile in Bhutan).
Has any one heard of this before?
It seems strange that it will work with my iPhone and not my iPad..
    Thanks!
    Kyle

Thanks for the advice. The hotspot setting is under settings, cellular data, and then personal hotspot. On mine, there is no on/off switch, only a round busy wheel that turns with no end.
I will check with the carrier over the next few days, but it seems they support the iPhone with Personal Hotspot and not the iPad..
That just seems odd.. Why one and not the other?

  • HT5858 turning on personal hotspot on iPad 2

    Hi
I would like to know can I activated personal hotspot on an iPad 2?

The iPad 2 do not have Personal Hotspot.

  • Can no longer connect iPad Mini 2 to iPhone 6 Personal Hotspot (iOS 8.1.2 on both)

I can no longer connect my iPad Mini 2 w/ iOS 8.1.2 to connect to my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1.2, Verizon Wireless) running Personal Hotspot. The iPad displays the error "Remote Hotspot Failure - Unable to start personal hotspot "iPhone.  However, my Windows 8.1 laptop connects to the iPhone just fine. The iPad connection problem occurs with or without the Windows laptop connected or even turned on.
Both the iPhone and iPad have Bluetooth and WiFi on, and the iPhone has Hotspot active. The iPad shows the iPhone Personal Hotspot on the WiFi Settings page, but throws the error each time i attempt to connect. Additionally, the iPhone shows 1 Connection on Personal Hotspot even though I have no devices connected. I have reset my network settings twice on both the iPhone and iPad.
BTW - I used to be able to connect the iPad to the Hotspot prior to updating to iOS 8.1.2 on both devices.

Forgetting the hotspot on the iPad sent me in the right direction. I now have it working correctly, and seem to have diagnosed the cause.
The cause seems to be that I had connected the iPad to the Hotspot via Bluetooth. Once I figured out how to delete that link, I was finally able to connect to the Hotspot. Here is what I had to do:
    On the iPhone:
    - Turn on WiFi and Bluetooth
    - Turn on Personal Hotspot and change the Hotspot password (this may not have been necessary, but things are now working)
    On the iPad:
    Reset all network settings:
Settings -> General -> Reset (at bottom of page) -> Reset Network Settings (deletes all known networks and their passwords and restarts the iPad)
Turn on WiFi and Bluetooth (I had found that Bluetooth must be on is necessary in some other research)
DO NOT CONNECT TO THE PERSONAL HOTSPOT USING BLUETOOTH - DON'T GO THERE!
Connect to the Hotspot using WiFi
    Settings ->WiFi
    - Wait until you see "iPhone" under PERSONAL HOTSPOTS (or maybe CHOOSE A NETWORK)
    - Select "iPhone"
    - Enter the (new) password that you set on for the PERSONAL HOTSPOT on the iPhone
You should now be connected via WiFi
Bottom line: Unless you have some VERY compelling reason to connect to the Hotspot via Bluetooth, NEVER do it. WiFi speed is multiples that of Bluetooth. With WiFi using Broadband Speedtest over Verizon LTE - 2 bars/dots - I am consistently getting between 15 and 20 Mb download and 3-15 Mb upload. With Bluteooth using the same test, I was getting about 1 Mb maximum upload and download.
I hope this solves the problem for all reading this thread. And thank you ManSinha for the helpful clue.

  • IOS 8.0.2 personal hotspot not able to start

Since upgrading to iOS 8.0.2 I have not been able to connect iPad mini retina to iPhone 6 personal hotspot getting message "unable to start personal hotspot" on iPad.  Both devices are on 8.0.2. Personal hotspot does work from Macbook so I know it is not an AT&T issue. Does not matter if hotspot is turned on or off on iPhone.
Are erie there others with similar issue?

I had this exact same issue between an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air both running iOS 8.0.2
Reported the issue to Apple through chat support - they had no solutions but said theyd raise a ticket with technicians to look into.
In the meantime I found a solution that worked - go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings, and do this on both (all) devices.
It's a little bit annoying because you have to reconfigure some of your settings - but your media is safe, it wont remove any of it.
Now my hotspot is working perfectly 100%, connects every time!!!

  • Cannot turn off personal hotspot

iPad Air running latest iOS version.
iPhone 6 running latest iOS version.
Personal Hotspot is turned off on my iPhone. My iPad can see its Personal Hotspot as available to connect to.
I tap the entry for the iPhone Personal Hotspot, the iPad connects to it ... even though it is not turned on.
My iPhone confirms this by the telltale blue strip appearing at the top of the screen indicating someone has connected to the phone ...
I check the Personal Hotspot section within iOS and sure enough it has turned itself on.
I turn off the Personal Hotspot again ...
The iPad then shows an alert to indicate its connection has been terminated.
But shortly after, the iPhone Personal Hotspot (which I turned OFF) entry appears in the wireless connection list on the iPad and I can tell it to connect again. I click the entry, and the iPad connects again via Personal Hotspot to my iPhone.
I Have told he iPad to 'forget this device' and it still connects with no issues whatsoever ...
Also, the iPad is able to connect to my iPhone without giving the password that I have set up!!
    HELP!
This is a security problem surely?

I was having the same issue after updating iOS in both devices, iPad Air and iPhone 5s my iPad could see my iphone hotspot even tho it was shut off. After reading everyone's reply all I'd did was sign out of iCloud on the iPad and no more issues.
The problem with this solution is you lose all of the benefits of being in the iCloud connection space, which are many and getting to be even more.
The reported problem is that you see a hotspot connection available on your iCloud devices.  No one else sees it and it really isn't live until you connect to it.  In the old days (before this release) only advanced users could take advantage of a Hotspot.  Now they have done away with the concept and your devices can see each other and if you need a wifi connection for one through another's LTE you can do it automatically by just selecting it from the receiving device.
Bottomline, now the fact that you can see a potential hotspot connection with one your devices (and no one else can see it) doesn't seem to be a problem to me.  Once I got used to see it in the bottom part of the list (the not yet active part), I like it.  It's easier to start up a hotspot and is only confusing to those of us who used to go through all of he steps previously.  New users to iOS don't even have to know what a hotspot is and they can connect their devices.  That's why they switched.

I don't understand how to fix this and I don't seem to understand where the problem is coming from.

Let's try the simple approach first. Restart your router. Any change?
