Personal hotspot not showing up

I am trying to tether my iPhone 4 to my iPad, been following instructions, all updates in place (4.3.3) the tethering plan paid for and ready, but when I go to the settings-general-network there is no words saying personal hotspot. I have seen other people's iPhones, and this does show up on theirs, but not on mine! Any ideas?

iOS 5 has great new features. But concerning the personal hotspot I was quite disappointed, when I had done the update. Still the menu item could not be found.
So I decided to configure my iPhone as "new iPhone" instead of restoring it from my old backups. Like DarthOSX I spent hours to bring my data back, using advice from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 (which is quite a joke from my perspective).
Finally, the personal hotspot is working properly. But I have not been able to bring back all the data into my iPhone.
Not a real good performance from Apple ...

  • Personal Hotspot not showing & no custom APN

Purchased my iPhone 4 on the day of it's Indian launch, it was sold unlocked and I was able to use it with other GSM Indian carriers until iOS 5 came out. After upgrading to iOS 5 I no more see Personal HotSpot option nor Cellular Data Network option.
Without Cellular Data Network I am unable to use data network of other GSM carriers, except officially released one(Airtel & Aircel).
This option under Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network is no more available.
You need provide APN of diifferent GSM carriers which can only be done with Cellular Data Network option.
And even after upgrading to iOS 5 Personal Hotspot is no more shown.
    Solutions tried:
    -> Reset Network Settings
    -> Hard reboot
-> Turn off cellular data and then on
Even after trying above steps, my issue wasn't solved.

  • Iphone4 ios 7.1 personal hotspot not working

How to do my iphone4 ios 7.1 personal hotspot not active

I have a similar problem with the hotspot on my iPhone 4 after updating to iOS7.1 and the trouble shooting doesnt help.
Initially after updating my iphone 4 to iOS7.1 I could turn on the "personal hotspot" and it appeared to work but if a computer joined the network it could not connect to the internet.
yesterday however I removed and reinserted the sim card (to check the balance on another sim card) and now the personal hotspot does not work at all.
When I try to enter the APN details for my cellular provider it disappears when I exit the "Cellular Data Network" page and the "Personal Hotspot" tab shows busy for a while then becomes "Set Up Personal Hotspot" which if pressed tells me to contact the carrier.
Is something wrong with the new iOS or is this a carrier problem - I never had a problem before installing iOS7 and the carrier information works perfectly on my friends iphone 4s on iOS7 - or is this something I need to take up with the carrier.  There doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the APN address on other devices (or before the update) and there is no problem with the internet connection on the phone.
    thanks for your help
    Phil

  • Iphone 4 personal Hotspot not working after update to IOS 7.1 India BSNL cellular

Iphone 4 personal Hotspot not working after update to IOS 7.1 India BSNL cellular

BSNL is not a supported carrier. Personal Hotspot requires carrier support and provisioning of the account to enable it. iOS 7.1 disabled the ability to manually configure Personal Hotspot on unsupported carriers.

Personal hotspot not working after upgrading to ios7

I was having this problem (iphone 5 wouldn't work as hotspot for my PC laptop) and had tried everything suggested on these message boards, so I finally went to the Apple Genius Bar and they fixed it for me.  Here's what they did:
    1) Turned the Hotspot off on my iphone
    2) Went to the Control Panel on my laptop to "Network and Internet" > "Network and Sharing Center" > "Manage Wireless Networks" (on the left navigation panel) and deleted my iphone from the list of WiFi connections I've attempted.
    3) Flipped the manual WiFi switch on my laptop to Off and then back On again (to reset it)
    4) Turned the Hotspot on my iphone back on
After that, when I tried to connect, it worked.  Hope this works for someone else.

PLease help. How to disable personal hotspot.i upgraded to ios6 since then personal hotspot is showing connecting but it hasnt.there is no on off option.

I'm using other gadget and wifi tethering works (hotspot)fine.
Already consult with cellular provider and they confirmed that the problem might be on device.
Do you think upgrading the ios might solve the problem?

  • My personal hotspot is showing discoverable but not working.

I can see that my personal hotspot is available in settings but it will not connect to anything

Does your plan with your cell provider allow this?  Just because the option is there does not mean it will work if your plan does not support it.

  • IPhone 4S Personal HotSpot not appearing in MacBook Pro or iPad2

I've been struggling for a long time detecting my iPhone 4S Personal Hotspot on my MacBook Pro and my iPad2.  Apple support has not been able to resolve the issue.  Sometimes the iPhone would show up; most of the time, not.
Recently, after learning that Siri cannot read Messages to me when I have a passcode in effect, it occurred to me that maybe the Personal Hotspot doesn't show when the phone is locked and/or passcode protected.  I've been doing some testing and I think I've demonstrated to myself that this is true.
Each time I want to connect my MacBook or my iPad to the hotspot, I find I have to slide the lock to open the phone before either piece of equipment will detect it and connect.  I also notice that it takes a long time before the hotspot appears.
With previous smartphones, the hotspot appeared quickly and was always easy to detect as long as it was enabled.
Has anyone else had the same experiences?

I've since resolved this problem - at least so I can cope with it without too much hassle.
You said your phone is unlocked.  Do you have a passcode enabled?
In my experience and testing (Apple support has been useless on this problem), I've narrowed it down to making sure the phone is unlocked and passcode disabled.  Either feature alone will block the WiFi hotspot.  [By the way, I've also learned that Siri is blocked from reading text messages, etc. when the passcode is in effect - even if you are using a Bluetooth device that is already paired with the phone.  Obviously, you must be the owner of the phone if you've pair your device to it.]
I went to my local Apple store on a Genius support visit.  I demonstrated how enabling either feature blocks my iPad's ability to detect the hotspot, and disabling both allows my iPad to see the hotspot.  The guy just said he had never seen that before, and that they are always learning new things.  He didn't do anything to elevate the case to higher level support, like Apple engineering.  I just left the store and that was it.
I've explained this to Apple support more than once and they never seem to be aware of it.  I'm supposed to call to speak with a management level guy, but I haven't remembered to make the call.
So, I walk around with an unsecured phone all the time so I can conveniently access my WiFi hotspot.  And I have to make sure the phone it unlocked until the connection is established so my computer or iPad will find it.  Otherwise, all I can see is everyone else's equipment.
Maybe people don't use the hotspot much.  Apple doesn't seem to care.

  • Ios 6.1.2 - personal hotspot not working

I just updated my iphone 5 to ios 6.1.2 and Personal hotspot dissappeared form the first list on teh settings menu. If I click settings -> general -> cellular, then it says "Set up Personal hotspot" But if I click that it gets an error message saying "Set up personal hotspot - To enable Personal Hotspot on this account, contact Carrier."
My carrier is Airtel Tanzania. Anyone else I know who hasn't upgraded says their phone is working fine.
And mind worked for the past few months.
    Any help????

The same problem here, did not solve yet.. normally I have this feature hidden in General menu but when I turn on wifi and go to General > Cellular and switch Cellular Data off, after a while the Personal Hotspot appears in General menu, then I switch cellular on (need to have 3G enabled) and Personal Hotspot is there and can be enabled but it works only using USB cable.. as soon as I try to connect using wifi/bluetooth the Hotspot disappears and I get "connection lost" on my Mac and the well known message about contacting my operator on phone..
This problem is here since iPhone 5.. never seen that message before on my iPhone 4. Operator said that problem can be with iPhone bought from abroad in Apple store (cellular menu is slightly different when I compared it with my colleague who bought it from local service provider), operator also tried to reset my "profile" and re-add internet and sharing service to it.
I also tried factory reset and wuala, everything is working.. (I restored from iPhone 4 when I got 5 of course). I will not accept this as a solution and already getting sick of it.

  • Macbook personal hotspot not working

    Hello all,
I have Mid 2010 Macbook pro 6.2 using OS X 10.8.3, I created a personal hotspot sharing from my ethernet connection to WI-FI. I get the arrow in the toolbar showing I'm setup. But when I try to connect my Ipod touch or my HP computer is not connecting. The WI-FI on the macbook pro is showing connected after I manually enter the IP address to match the ethernet connection IP address. Can someone tell me why my devices are not connecting or if I'm doing something wrong. Thanks you very much.

  • My personal hotspot is showing that it is connected to my other device but when I try to connect to Facebook or anything web related it won't connect to the server. What could be the problem?

I currently had my personal hotspot turned back on. I have it connected to another device ( which is my daughters Htc hero.) I have done this before so she could get onto Facebook ect. So my problem is it is showing we are connected but her hero won't connect to anything that requires Internet. I've tried everything but all I get on her phone is error could not connect to server. Any help would be very grateful!

My WiFi hotspot only works right after rebooting my iPhone 4S. Upon attempting to reconnect after that initial session, I can only tether using a USB cable... Not good enough Apple!
I took my phone to an Apple Store on the weekend and had it completely reset. That has made the phone faster but it hasn't resolved the hotspot issue.
It seems that the issuei is in the OS itself, so I'm holding out hope for a fix soon... I'm holding off on an upgrade to iPhone 5 until I'm completely satisfied that I won't experience these problems again...

  • Personal hotspot not recognized by MBA?

My wife has an iPhone5, and unlimited ATT service. We also have an MBA 10.8.3 and iPad1. When trying to use the iPhone5 personal hotspot to connect with the MBA, the phone does not appear on the list of available networks. If then follow steps on iPhone of Settings>General>Cellular>Set up Personal Hotstop and turn it off and then back on, it will usually appear on MBA list of networks and works fine. It just never appears on its own. However, it appears and works for the old iPad. Is problem in MBA?
    thanks for any help.

    Update on the above:
I did some more research on this using assorted of my 2nd gen nanos and a couple 1st gen ones as well.
It's only the 2GB 2nd gen nanos  MA477LL part number, that do not work with Lion / 10.7.4 / iTunes 10.6.3.
2nd gen MA477LL  does not work, it's a 2GB model. I have two of these.  Neither works.
    2nd gen MA428LL  works  it is a 4GB model
    2nd gen MA426LL  works  it is a 4GB model
    1st gen MA352LL  works - it's a 1st gen nano refurb (1GB)
1st gen MA350LL  (1GB) - this is another 1st gen nano refurb, but one that's formatted for Windows (and had nothing on it when I connected it).  For some reason it mounted fine in Mac iTunes environment and even let me drag an AAC track onto it.  I was dumbfounded.   On the desktop, its sys info showed info like any FAT32 flashdrive but it did have an iPod nano icon on it.   I ejected it from iTunes and plugged in a pair of earbuds and hit play on the track. It plays fine.   Go figure!  I rechecked the settings in the device.  It does say Windows for the format. I feel like I'm in the Bermuda triangle.  I might have to reformat it next time a Windows iTunes setup sees that nano though.
So bottom line here with the second gen nanos:    it's the 2GB model, the 2nd gen nanos with model MA477LL that do not work in Lion and iTunes 10.6.3 for whatever reason.   Both of my devices with that model number do work fine on an older MBA running Snow Leopard and iTunes 10.4.

  • Hotspot not showing at my address

I registered for Telstra air hotspot but it not showing on the map. Why.?

Good morning Henry, I take it we are talking Telstra Air and your home's hotspot here. It can take a few days for the Telstra map to catch up also, private home address identifications aren't being personally identified. If you go to the following link and enter your postcode, then zoom towards your address, you should see a WiFi symbol showing adjacent to your address: https://corp.fon.com/en/maps Example below...

  • Hotspot not showing

My personal hotspot is not showing up, and I don't think it ever has. I have tried restoring the settings, and restoring the phone but it's still not there. The phone is up to date with software updates. I am with a carrier that supports hotspot. What can I do?

    Apple "playing GOD" again.
Regardless of whether the Service Provider allows Tethering, it is Apples perogative as to which Service Providers get approved for "Personal Wetspot" .
If you MSP allows Tethering,  contact Apple and ask them to fix this unethical practice.
