Personal Oracle 8i on Win 95 ?

Hello everybody.
Is there any chance to get Oracle 8i PE to run on Windows 95 ?
Or is there no way than upgrading to 98 or ME (using 8.1.7) ?
Or is there a PE of Oracle 8.0 running on 95 ?

  • Personal Oracle 8.1.6 on Win 98

I tried to install persaonal Oracle 8.1.6 on Win 98 and when I start the Oracle using svrmgrl I got the following error
    Cannot open registry
    software\oracle\homeo\SID_LIST
    starting with default sid
Then it asks for password. I tried all passwords and finally got error
    ORA-01031 - Cannot logon to Oracle 8i
I have used UNIX. What is the equivalent of ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME of UNIX in WIN 98. Where all sid's of all startup and shutdown databases are stored.
    Any body knows.

when I attempt to start the Database I get the following error:

You cannot put Developer 6.0 and Personal Oracle 8 together on
the same home directory as there are conflicts between their
dlls. Either put them apart (different homes) or use a certified
version of Personal Oracle with Developer 6.0.

  • Oracle 9i on Win ME

Does Oracle 9i supports Win ME. If not, when will it be
    available .
Can this be done in Win ME, to operate 9i.
Open c:\windows\win.ini, search for [Compatibility95] and add
    the line Jrew=0x00080000
    Thanks,
    Manish.

I downloaded Oracle 9i Personal edition from Oracle.com.
Installed the same on Win Me with a starter database.
I am not able to open the database since it asks me to enter a password which i've never entered.
I am not able to create a session. The moment I try to create a session on SQL, the database starts opening but i cannot get further since it asks for the password.
Please Help. Try using the generic username of scott & the generic pw of tiger. Hope this helps Hi,
    Try this from dos prompt
    c:\> set oracle_sid=<sid_value>
    c:\> sqlplus system/manager
Can you elaborate what you meant when you say "the database starts opening" ? What is the error number and error message you are getting?

  • Database link to Personal Oracle

    Question:
I can create a database link from an Oracle-Server
    to a Personal Oracle Database.
But I cannot use it: the TNS name cannot be resolved.
Why ? Is it necessary to start any additional processes?

HMMMM....tried that and I still cannot connect. This is how XE created the entry in the tnsnames.ora file:
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = uad-rawallacejr.win.csupomona.edu)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = CLRExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
I created the database link as follows:
    CREATE DATABASE LINK XE
    CONNECT TO GIFTPROC
    IDENTIFIED BY nikki
    using 'XE'
    getting this error:
    SQL> select count(*) from project@XE;
    select count(*) from project@XE
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name
Is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Problems with Personal Oracle Instal on WinME

    Hi,
Can someone throw some light on this, please?
I am trying to install Personal Oracle on a machine running ME.
When I use Personal Oracle for '98, it stops with a message about the paths to Source and Destination of the software. I checked many times about the availability of the directories, but it does not go forward. I tried the JREW = ... in the COMPATIBILITY95 section of the WIN.INI without success.
When I try to install Personal Oracle for Win2K, it apparently installs the EE, and tries to configure the network. Here it asks for the name of the host. When the server and the client are to be on the same machine, what is the need for a network connection?
That aside, what is the correct version to install on a ME machine? Are there any work-arounds for these problems?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    [email protected]

I have the same problem in ME

  • Oracle Lite vs Personal Oracle

    Hi
I use Oracle Server 8.1.7 at work and want to do some development work at home. Which version should I use on my Win 98 machine and what are the pros and cons of each?
    Cheers
    Phil

I would advise you to use Personal Oracle.
Personal Oracle has most of the features the Enterprise version of Oracle 8.1.7 has. Oracle Lite is a very light weight version of Oracle which doesn't really have anything to do with the normal versions.
Especially when you want to develop things at home and deploy them at work you need Personal Oracle

  • How to get connectivity between Personal Oracle 8.0.0.3 & Developer 2000 (Any Version

Can anybody tell me how to get connectivity between Personal Oracle 8.0.3 and Developer 2000 Rel 2.1 in Win 98 Environment.
I am able to install either Oracle 8 or Developer 2000 but not both, even if I use different Oracle Homes.
When I posted the same question to www.xperts.com someone wrote to me saying that a patch has to be used to get the connectivity.
I have been trying to solve the problem for last 6 months, but could not do it.
Can you please tell me how to get the connectivity or atleast tell me which version will facilitate connectivity in a stand alone PC.
    Thanks and regards,
    Ashok

For Windows98. Worked for me, but no guarantee it will solve your problem.
    1) Install Dev2K.
    2) Install PO8i in a separate Oracle home.
    3) Use the following for TNSNAMES.ORA in your DEV2K Home:
    # C:\ORAWINKS\NETWORK\ADMIN\TNSNAMES.ORA Configuration File:C:\orawinKS\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle Net8 Assistant
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    MYORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL)
