Personal Oracle and Windows XP Home Edition

Has anyone gotten any version of Personal Oracle
to run on Windows XP Home edition?
How?
I have Personal Oracle 8.1.7 for Win 98 running on
Windows Me, but now I need Personal Oracle running
on Windows XP Home edition.

I was told by Oracle Sales that XP home is not supported, just XP Pro

  • 10.4.11, VMware Fusion and Windows XP (Home Edition) works just fine

OK, so I'm through the installation of VMware Fusion and Windows XP (Home Edition) and I have to say that it was pretty much point and click as advertised. All network services seem to be working and I'm running both OS side-by-side with out a hitch.
Haven't put the system through any rigorous test yet, like VPN, network printing or rending large graphic files, but the installation, setup and normal operation went smoothly taking about an hour in total.
Machine: MacBook Pro, 1.8Ghz with 1G of RAM memory and dual monitors.
    Host OS: MacOS 10.4.11

I now have installed XP Pro into a Boot Camp Partition. Basically point and shoot. Then while booted in XP I used PC Mover to migrate my old PC to the Boot Camp partition. With the exception of one program and my virus and firewall programs all went well, almost point and shoot. Then I installed VMWares Fusion and used my Boot Camp partition as the source. If you follow instructions from VMWare things work relatively problem free.
After posting questions on VMwares site about processing video and compiling DVDs in Windows using Fusion I decided that such processor intensive requirements are best handled in the Boot Camp (native) mode.
The biggest problem I have encountered is that Microsoft Office constantly asks to be reactivated when switching between Boot Camp startup and Fusion. No solution I know of, except not to use Office in Boot Camp Mode. Secondly XP Pro required a re-authorization from Microsoft so I could run it in both Boot Camp and Fusion modes. Obtaining the authorization (activation code) from Microsoft was not a problem.

  • Itunes 7.1.1. and Windows Vista Home Edition

Hi there. I have a new PC from HP model T3765.it and I am NOT able to use my iPod nor to install iTunes for more than two months: my PC says "you have to repair iTunes to make it working with Windows Vista". I followed the instructions (Control Panel --> Programs --> iTunes --> repair) but no result. My PC has Windows Vista Home Edition. Does anyone know what to do? Is there a way to sort this out or do I have to wait for a new iTunes release?
    Thanks, Giacomo

Can anyone help me with instructions to restore the Ipod to a back level? I have searched the discussions but haven't found a method. I have downloaded 1.2.1 but Itunes wants to check for an update and won't let me get past that point.

  • Problem with PC Suite and Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit

I installed PC Suite on my desktop with Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit installed.  I was able to eventually run PC Suite (granted it needed to run in XP SP2 compatibility mode) and sync my calendar on my W518a cell phone with PC Suite via Bluetooth communications.  After I turned off my computer and restarted it, I could no longer open up PC Suite...its icon appears in my system tray with a red X over it as if it can't find the program.
The SonyEricsson website indicates PC Suite can run with Windows 7.
What is causing the problem I am having?  How do I get this corrected?

I have downloaded and reinstalled the PC Suite software.  Although it is not working as well as it should, as long as I have my cell phone on with Bluetooth enabled prior to clicking on the icon to open the application, it seems to work OK.  Otherwise, when it opens, it just hangs and the only way you can close the program is to get into Task Manager and force it closed when its status is showing as "Not Responding".  I also have found that just "closing" the PC Suite window does not close the application...you have to click on the option to "Exit the Application" otherwise you continue to have it in your system tray with a red X over the icon.

  • PCI 16 and Windows XP Home edit

I have a dual boot computer -- XP and the Linspire version of Debian Linux. The sound card works under Linux but does not work under XP.
The system would not recognize my CD-ROM dri've in XP because of a software problem which needed two changes to the Registry to fix. See MS Knowledge Base #34060.
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;34060
I may have a similar software problem with my SoundBlaster 6 PCI because System Properties / Hardware says that the PCI 6 is working properly but "Control Panel" / "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" / "Volume" tab says "No Audio Device" and the "Audio" tab says "No Playback Devices". The "Hardware" tab shows various codecs and drivers and the SB PCI WDM card as "working properly"
I tried your Knowledge Base #72 "clean sweep" but that did not fix it, perhaps because the installation CD-ROM with my card [copyright 2003. part number 320ML000043} did not have a file CTZAPXX.EXE so I could not kill the WDM drivers with it.
I also tried Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe but it said it could not find any "Creative" sound cards so it did not run.
XP System Information / Sound Devices says that the sound device is SB PCI (WDM) made by Creative Technology Ltd.
Oh mighty tech gurus, where in the hell is the problem?

    Johnb662,
There may be a problem with the multimedia section of Windows XP. This typically means uninstalling and reinstalling the multimedia section of Windows XP. This is usually hidden in XP but if you follow some steps you will be able to make this section visible. These steps are described in the following article in the section labeled "How to install or uninstall Windows programs that are no listed in Add/Remove Programs Wizard".
    http://us.creative.com/support/kb/ar...p?l=2&sid=5339
Make sure you have a Windows XP CD or the install files are on your HDD before continuing. Once this is done you can go to Add Remove Programs/Add Remove Windows Components and select the accessories and utilities section. Take the check mark out of Multimedia and hit apply. It will uninstall and you will need to reboot your system. After the reboot, go back to the same place and return the checkmark to Multimedia. Hit apply and reboot again. See if the sound card shows up after that.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 Release 3 on Windows XP Home Edition

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the personal oracle 8.1.7 in a laptop which is an windows xp home edition. The installer doesn't start!
    Is it a compatibility problem?
What should i do now to install oracle?

    Tom,
    Thanks for replying.
I don't see what I can compile. The initial program I am trying to compile is very simple it has a connect statement followed by the definition of a cursor, the cursor is opened and the fetch is performed. The program crashes on performing the open of the cursor. It seems to me that Pro*C is producing C output that the comipilers, (cl.exe in the visual studio .Net IDE, or mingw gcc for win32), cannot turn into runnable code on the Windows XP Professional platform. Pro*C is not open source code so I cannot recompile that, Microsoft cl.exe is most definately not open source. gcc is open source and I suppose I could recompile that but surely the mingw win32 compiler should work as it is standard and widely used. Anyway the output of both the compilers fails. Maybe I will compile gcc for my installation but it seems to me like Pro*C is probably the culprit here and trying to run the Oracle 8.1.7 version on XP may not be possible. I posted here in case this is a known problem.
Another thought has just occured to me that maybe I should try running a 10g or 9i version of Pro*C on the 8.1.7 installation. How would I get this? Would I have to install the whole installations to get the binary?

  • Can we install oracle 10g database on Windows Vista Home Edition?

Can we install oracle 10g database on Windows Vista Home Edition?

You didn't specify which Oracle10 Edition.
In the case of SE/SE one/EE, with a paid license Supported has a mean impact on production environments with paid licenses, since you wouldn't run on an unsupported platform facing the risk of being left without technical support from Oracle in case of an emerging issue.
For the XE Edition, this is not a certified combination, since the only certified editions are the Business, Enterprise, and the Ultimate editions, but you can try it, you don't have nothing to loose, supported, certified vs. unsupported in this case makes no difference since this XE is not supported either way (no patchsets, no bug fixes, no technical support from metalink), just an AS IS free software.
On the license agreement terms displayed when you download the XE software it states:
    "No Technical Support
Our technical support organization will not provide technical support, phone support, or updates to you for the programs licensed under this agreement."
    and
"THE PROGRAMS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE FURTHER DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS AND IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE."
In case someone would be able to win a trial against oracle due to damage from the use of this software, the amount paid at maximum is 1,000.00 USD, not enough to even pay the lawyer's lunches.
For the XE users the primary source of 'kind of support' is the oracle forums, either the installation forum, the general database or the specialized XE forum.
Of course if this is for your own personal use for learning and testing and there are no third parties you could damage by doing this and if you don't have a paid license for this installation you may try it, but don't expect the Enterprise Manager to behave as defined by the manual, most of it won't work since the Home Edition doesn't have the privileges required for EM to work.
If this is your personal computer and when you bought it the computer provider installed from factory Home Edition, and if you want something to work there, you can try to install a Virtual Machine and install Oracle 10g on a supported guest OS.

  • Oracle 8i for Windows XP Home Edition

Could someone please advise which is the correct download version of Oracle 8i to use with Windows XP Home Edition?

As far as I know, your need XP Professional.
On top of that, you'd better download Oracle 9i.
Let me explain: the symcjit.dll library in Oracle 8.1.5 did not work on XP w/Pentium IV. You had to go to symantec.com and download the proper JDK, extract symcjit.dll from it and replace the original symcjit.dll (that came on the Oracle CD or in the download) with the new symcjit.dll
This means that you have to copy the CD to disk, unzip it and replace symcjit.dll in the unzipped distribution.
I do not know if this was fixed in 8.1.7, but 9i installs beautifully on XP Professional, Pentium IV w/512MB RAM.
Could someone please advise which is the correct download version of Oracle 8i to use with Windows XP Home Edition?

  • Oracle 9i  for Windows XP Home Edition

Would like to know which version can be downloaded to install oracle 9i for Windows XP Home Edition .. Would like to download Oracle 9i Developer as well...

I can only comment on the database installation. Oracle has now supported 9i for XP professional (no previous versions will be supported). XP home will NOT be a supported platform for Oracle products.
NOTE: There is a bug with 9i installations that the OUI will fail if the CLASSPATH has been set by installations from previous Oracle installations. Before installing 9i you will need to clear the CLASSPATH and then proceed with your installation. Once the installation is complete you can restore the CLASSPATH with your original settings.

  • Trying to install Adobe Premiere 5.1 and 6.0 (upgrade) on Windows 7 Home Edition?

Can't seem to do this. Saw a solutions to install Windows XP Virtual system, but that won't work on a Windows 7 Home edition. Seems wrong that you can't use software that says: "Windows 95 or later..." On the package. Is there any 'fix?'

System specs can only apply to hardware and software available at the time. 10 years ago nobody could even conceive of Windows 7 ever going to exist and what requirements it may have.... Anyway, they are simply not compatible. You need to upgrade.

Yes, this did solve the problem.  But I had some trouble updating QuickTime.  It failed, with the installer complaining that it did not have the required permissions to install the files it needed in the program directory.  I got it to work by telling it to install the files to another directory.  All seems well now - Thanks!

    Steve,
I appreciate your answer.  While it might work, I'm a bit hesitant to remove the other programs as a possible solution since they are all currently working.
With Acrobat 9 Pro failing with the OS 10.7 upgrade, I'm hoping that there is a less severe solution.
Since the trigger appears to be 10.7 and may have something to do with the discontinued support of Rosetta, I could be spending a few hours working on a reinstall without a change.  Yes, it might work.  The "might" is the part that makes me hesitate.
Is anyone else out there on OS 10.7 and running Acrobat 9 Pro?  Any issues with anyone else?
Thanks Steve.  I do appreciate your offering a solution.  I may end up trying it if nothing else comes together.
