Personal Settings Gone; Connecting iPod Will Erase It?

I had to have the logic board replaced in my iMac G5 and then the Mac OS 10.4.2 had to be reinstalled in order for me to sign in (some glitch they were unclear on what happened to the log in). So the Genius Bar did an Archive and Install but unchecked the save personal settings box to set up the account fresh. So now I want to know, before I go willy-nilly plugging my iPod in, if I will indeed erase my iPod with this supposed new user, or at least, what the iPod sees as a new user. I remember there being a key stroke I could use to not have the auto syncing occur, but I don't remember what that is. My iTunes program is fine, I have all my music, all the right data, no issues.
I did have as part of my .Mac backup (with the Backup 3 software) my Personal Settings saved. If I restore from them will I be able to deal with the iPod (and all the other stuff) just fine or will I likely have the same login issue that I did before the Genius Bar did the Archive and Install? Maybe that is more of a question for the OS 10.4 board, but I thought I'd put it here anyway.
Thanks in advance for your help!

You said you've re-created your iTunes library. If you were syncing automaticly with your iPod, does it matter if it erases it? It will then sync back the same data it just deleted.
Now, if you were managing your iPod manually, iTunes shouldn't attempt to sync it.
I thought that iTunes would put up a window saying that the iPod had been synced with a different library and asking if you wanted to erase it and sync it with the new library.
Have you actually tried connecting the iPod, or are you afraid to at this point?

When I went to sync my iPhone, I accidently hit restore and it made my iPhone have all of the settings of my iPod Touch, erasing my iPhone pictures and contacts. Is there any way to get everything back?

Not to doubt you, but something sounds fishy. I can see accidentally clicking Restore, but to load your Touch's information you would have had to select your Touch's backup file after restoring, which would be hard to do by accident -- unless your iPhone and Touch have the same name?
In any case, your iPhone should have its own backup file on your computer. You can click Restore again and this time select the iPhone's backup file (there should be a device name and date associated with the pop-up window at the end of the restore process). This process will erase your iPhone, reload the OS, and then when you select your backup file then all your iPhone settings, data, sync options, etc. will be re-loaded, including your media (if you auto-sync ... if you manually manage music and video on the iPhone then you'll need to re-select the items you want loaded onto it).

  • Will erasing the contents and settings of my iPod 4g erase the current os?

No. You iPod will remain on iOS 6.1

  • Everything Gone.. iPod Completely Erased.. HOW?

I went to turn my iPod on today, and was shocked to find that everything had been completely erased somehow. Or, at least none of the songs are showing up. I recently updated iTunes, but I don't have iTunes set to sync automatically. I do everything manually. I thought maybe it had something to do with the new iTunes, but I have played my iPod, unplugged from my computer, since the last time having it plugged into the new iTunes. Then today, everything is magically not there. How is this possible?! Can I recover any of my songs, or do I have to go put them ALL back on via iTunes? What causes this? I'm pretty much dying here..

*Can I recover any of my songs...*
Yes, do a Sync from iTunes.
*...or do I have to go put them ALL back on via iTunes?*
Sure. Why is that a problem?
    *What causes this?*
Without having monitored everything that you've ever done with the iPod, that question is impossible to answer.

  • I have my iphone 4 and an ipod touch on the same apple ID.  My daughter tried to change the settings on the ipod so that she could facetime on both her ipod and iphone which is on a separate Apple ID.  I no longer have a 3G connection.

I have an iphone 4 and an ipod touch on the same apple ID.  My daughter who uses the ipod tried to change the apple ID on the ipod to be the same with her apple ID on her own Iphone so that she can use facetime on both devices.  Not sure what she did but my 3G connection is no longer working.

Changing Facetime settings on an iPod will have no affect on cellular settings on an iPhone. Something else is going on there. If she did not change any settings on the phone, then nothing she did could affect your celluar 3G.

  • Lost al .pages and .numbers docs , iphoto and office programs won't open after changing: auto startup in: startup with password. all personal settings are also gone

After i changed this setting: autologin. into login with password i restarted the computer.
it started up with a blank personal surrounding. also my .pages and .numbers documents were gone, personal settings gone, iphoto won't open and office programs wo'nt open.
in finder i can find several .doc documents and i can see that all my pictures are still on the system, But i can't open them.
i was so stupid not to use time machine. But is there way to recover the system with my documents or something??
    please help.
System Imac i5 intel 21.5 inch
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)

Nope, without any backup they're probably gone for good. If you want you can purchase some data recovery software such as Data Rescue. I hope this may be a lesson why it's critical to backup your system, Time Machine is a good place to start.
BTW when posting please use proper grammar, it's difficult to read a post when no caps are used.
    Good luck!

You can only sync everything with your one syncing computer/iTunes library. Yu can:
    - Make this your syncing computer by:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - Use the manual method to copy music and videos from any computer/iTunes library to the iPod. See the manual method included here:

  • My ipod says it's synced with another computer and will erase my ipod, i dont want my ipod to be erased

My hard drive went out and had to be replaced. I coundnt back-up anything before it happened becuase i was having so many issues with my computer. So  i plugged my ipod into my computer and Itunes tells me-
the ipod "my ipods name"  is synced with another library. Do you want to erase this ipod and sync.   My ipod has only been plugged into this computer. I dont have anything from my ipod saved and I sepnt a TON of money on the music, apps, and videos on my Ipod. I dont want to lose all of the stuff on my ipod but i need to sync it. Is there any way i can get everything off my ipod and onto my computer without using Itunes? then i could transfer them to Itunes.

    Try this:
Right clicking on your ipod in the device list an d choosing "transfer purchases" will copy apps and bought media from iTunes to your computer. Due to the new iTunes library on your new HD, iTunes will erase your ipod during the first sync. To save your data to the computer take a look at this article about saving data from your device to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
Basically it's backing up manually, transferring her purchases (apps and bought music), letting iTunes erase the ipod due to the new iTunes library, and restoring from the manual backup again, to get all the data and settings back.
Make sure your new computer account is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Erased all Content and Settings on my iPod Touch 3rd Gen

I've erased all my contents and settings on my ipod touch 3rd gen because I wanted a fresh new start. What happened was I clicked accept to erase all the contents and settings then it shut down and it was erasing everything. Now my problem is that it's stuck on the apple logo, it won't load at all. I've tried doing the restart thing with the home button and on button but it just ends up staying at the logo. My computer doesn't detect my iPod touch nor does my iTunes. I'm in serious trouble. I haven't used my iPod touch for 1 month because of this problem. Please anyone help me

Do you have any security software installed? If yes, make sure iTunes can connect to Apple during the restore process: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125
If this does not help, delete the ipod firmware file (*.ipsw) on your computer, located C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates to make iTunes download a new copy when you connect again in recovery mode. Maybe the file on your computer got damaged. Also make sure to run the latest version of iTunes (9.2.1).
    Good luck.

My ipod will no longer connect you ATT wireless. It did before and my iPhone and iPad still connect jut fine. Any ideas why?

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Does the iPod see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iPod connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
