Personal videos on Apple TV sound but no picture
Hi,
I'm an experienced Mac user but brand new to Apple TV, just arrived yesterday. I have some personal videos not purchased through iTunes that I keep in the iTunes library as "TV shows". They all play fine when I click on them in iTunes at the iMac. When I synched the Apple TV to the iTunes library, many of these videos did not play properly--the audio was fine, but no video. Again, they play normally on iTunes, but something apparently got lost in translation to the Apple TV. The video codec for these is MPEG-4 and I have gone under "Get Info" and labeled them as "TV Shows", so that they appear under the appropriate list on the Apple TV menu, but the video is simply absent. Other videos work fine, so it doesn't appear to be the unit itself. Any thoughts on what might be done to these personal videos to make them compatible with the Apple TV? Thanks.

Thanks for being willing to help me. I discovered a common thread in all of the videos that failed to make the jump to Apple TV. Turns out that they were all converted using iSquint, and the version used apparently had a flaw that made Apple TV transfers screw up like mine. I went to the iSquint website, downloaded the new version that specifically addresses this issue, and everything works fine now. Thanks though!

I have bought an apple tv today for the main use of buying movies. I have it all connected and soon find out I can only rent not buy from the tv. So I decided to buy from iTunes on my new iPad - the HD movie, with the intention of air playing it to my tv. This works with utube so shouldn't be an issue.
Unfortunately I only get the sound no pictures come up at all. How do I fix this?This seemed odd, since I rented the movie from the itunes store. And, in fact, once the downloading finished (it takes a long time on this old ipad( I tried again and the movie -audio and video - both appeared on my tv.

Quick Time Sound but No Picture
I just installed the latest QT 7.5.5 for windows XP, but I can't play any video! It has sound but no picture. I cannot play any trailers from www.apple.com/trailers/. I tried to play a mp3 music, its fine. But I tried some videos, no picture just sound. It's doesn't matter what's the format of the video, all the same, just a green background.

I have the same problem. I can hear the sound but see no MP4 video with Quick Time player (version 7.5.5).
I had the same problem with Windows Media Player 11 but now when I installed ffdshow Video Decoder that started to work. But it did not help Quicktime.
And selecting safe mode does not help, nor selecting legacy codecs, nor trying DirectX chekboxes on the advanced tab.
I could live with Windows Media Player but... My Adobe Photoshop and Britannica have been designed to use Quicktime player... Thus I need to get mp4 work with Quick Time.. 8-(

I Uploaded my pictures from my iPhone to my MacBook… Some of the videos I made show that they imported and play sound, but no picture… are they gone?Becuase they offer to delete what was imported, so to save space i did... Is there anything I can do to restore the picture?
Do your videos play in QuickTime Playerwhen you reveal one of them in the Finder with "File > Reveal > Original"? Try to open the revealed movie in QuickTime and see if it plays.
Check the format of the movie. You can see it in the Inspector in QuickTime Player from the "WIndow" menu: Window > Show Inspector.
iPhoto does not support all movie formats and codecs that QuickTime player can play, and not all frame rates.

If the movie does not play in QuickTime Player either, install QuickTime 7 for more codecs. -

What is the driver version for your NVIDIA GeForce GT640?
There is a known issue specific to Premiere Elements 10 and NVIDIA GeForce. The Announcement at the top of this forum tells it all - detailed description of problem, references, fixes, and fix details.
The following is a copy paste of that Announcement....
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card
and you are experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your
first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that
it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and
unexplained workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer
has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back
the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver
roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10.
Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.

I am trying to watch sky sports from my iPad using the Apple TV, I have sound but no picture?
When I first turn it on I have sound and picture. After a couple min screen goes black but there is sound. Doesn't matter what I'm watching, Netflix, Hulu, movies from iTunes. We have unplugged, rebooted and prayed to the Aplle TV. Sometimes it works, sometimes no. I see people are having trouble since update.

why do I have a black sreen when I try to watch a youtube video. I have sound but no video and if I click on the black screen firefox crashes.

Using mirroring with my apple tv and everthing shows up on the tv untill i try to watch a movie, i get the sound but no picture. I checked and both are on the same wifi?
I had this problem also. Several times in fact. And it has not been any relation with sw update (Apple TV). I managed to fix this on a strange way. I drop off WiFi in iMac and joined back. Right after thatI tried to adjust Airplay settings, but I didn't manage. Reason was that my iMac didn't found any Airplay devices (?). After about 2-3 minutes iMac recognized my Apple TV. And also audio "posting" to Apple TV started to work.
So restart your WiFi connection on your iMac or MacBook Pro - it may help.

I've bought a Digital AV Adapter to be able to connect my Iphone 4g to the TV. I only get sound but no picture when I look at TVPlay-canals. Photo gallery OK. I have updated my phone to the latest version IOS. Any solution?
Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your phone doesn't do mirroring, only the 4S will do that. It only does basic AirPlay.
Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues). -

Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
Also make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of comments? You might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device? -

Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)
